President Hakainde Hichilema has directed that legal mining operations at the OB 19 and OB 22 dumpsites near Nchanga Mine in Chingola be allocated to youths in the district.
Addressing thousands of people at Chiwempala Grounds in Chingola, President Hichilema said government has secured a safe environment at the two sites to facilitate legal and safe small-scale mining activities.
The President said local youths will be provided with mining equipment and training in safe mining practices to help prevent accidents and fatalities previously recorded at the dumpsites.
He added that small-scale miners will also have access to an established market where they can sell their minerals.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema announced that traders at Chiwempala Market whose goods were destroyed in a fire last year will begin receiving the K10 million financial support that he had pledged.
The President also directed Mulonga Water and Sanitation Company to immediately commence the supply of water to all townships in Chingola District.
He further urged residents of Chingola to participate in the August 13, 2026 General Election and vote for continued development.
