Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the livelihoods of Zambians.
Northern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi-Phiri says to achieve this, the government will continue the implementation of programs and projects that promote inclusive development across all sectors.
Ms Undi-Phiri says the government remains focused on implementing interventions that uplift communities and improve the quality of life for citizens.
Speaking during the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of Chieftainess Chandamukulu in Kasama district, Ms Undi-Phiri said government’s decentralisation agenda continues to show positive results through the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) which is empowering communities to undertake sustainable development initiatives.
She disclosed that the government recently handed over K5.4 million under the CDF empowerment grants to 136 community groups and cooperatives from Lukashya and Kasama Central constituencies to support income generating activities, create employment opportunities and improve household livelihoods.
The Acting Permanent Secretary said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to taking development closer to the people by ensuring communities directly benefit from public resources.
Meanwhile Ms Undi-Phiri reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education through the implementation of various programmes in the education sector.
“Government is committed to ensure that every child has access to quality education through the Free Education Policy which continues to provide learning opportunities to thousands of children who would otherwise have been excluded from the education system,” she said.
She added that the school feeding programme implemented in partnership with Mary’s Meals has continued to improve learner attendance and retention in schools.
Ms Undi-Phiri also expressed happiness with the ongoing construction of Chandamukulu Secondary School saying the project will improve access to secondary education for learners within the chiefdom and surrounding communities.
She noted that education remains one of the most effective tools for reducing poverty and empowering future generations.
The Acting Permanent Secretary added that the government remains committed to strengthening healthcare delivery through the recruitment of health personnel, improved availability of essential medicines and continued investment in health infrastructure.
She said the interventions are intended to ensure that every citizen has access to quality and affordable healthcare services thereby improving the overall wellbeing of communities.
