Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa confirmed that Dr. Scott died on Tuesday at his Trotover Farm in Leopards Hill, Lusaka.
Dr. Scott served as Zambia’s Republican Vice-President from 2011 to 2014 under the late President Michael Sata.
Following President Sata’s death in October 2014, Dr. Scott assumed the role of Acting President and led the country until January 2015, when a presidential election was held.
He also previously served as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries during the administration of former President Frederick Chiluba.
In a statement issued to the media, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded Dr. Scott a state funeral in recognition of his distinguished service and contribution to the nation.
Kangwa said details of the funeral and burial programme will be announced in due course.
