Roberto ,General Ozzy and Young Mandela shut down the annual Lake of stars festival this past weekend . The Brotherhood artist was one of the headline acts at the festival and he really put on a superb performance. He had the crowd dancing and singing along to all his hit songs.

Roberto’s fan base is really growing in Malawi with a song featuring Sonyezo and Tay Grin ,who is one of Malawi’s biggest artists, being released recently. The song is titled “Suger Mami” you can listen the single here >>> http://m.malawi-muisc.com/album.php?id=2066

Fast rising Zambian singer , Chembo, performed on the Airtel beach stage on Sunday 2nd of October and was accompanied by Malawian guitarist ,Neil.
She described her half hour set as incredible. “I would say there was an audience of anything from 500 – 1000+ while I was performing” she said. Chembo described her set as “a mixture of acoustic, acapella and fun”. She was joined by a drummer named Eric for her last Song “Tightrope“.

The Malawi crowd seemed to really enjoy Cactus Agony’s set and he certainly enjoyed himself on the main stage.  Malawian reggae artist Fitzgerald Simfukwe and his band, The Meditators, provided the backing for Cactus’ set. Cactus is a great live band performer and the audience really saw that. The highlights of his set being an acapella version of ‘Chasing the Wind’, the title track from Cactus’ latest album, a shortened version of ‘Zambian Flag’ from the same album but renamed “Malawian flag” for the night  and “Missing You” as a finale. The many Zambians in the crowd were happy to see one of Zambia’s sons excelling himself.

Cactus Agony described the atmosphere at the festival as “wonderful, happy and relaxed”.He gave a special mention for Zilanie and the media team and Kirsty as stage manager. “We were given times for interviews and performances  and they were adhered to…almost unheard of ! “ This being the 13th Lake of Stars festival the organisers knew what they were doing; every question or problem was dealt with quickly and efficiently, he went on to say.

There is no doubt that the people of Malawi definitely remember all the Zambian artists that performed. Zambia music getting the exposure it deserves!

  1. This should have been widely advertised just like they did for UB 40. Most of us could have gone to support.

    • Concur @ngobola.

This is massively important for Africans. We must create opportunity for the Arts, monitise the industry. Showcase and attract international Arts crowds. We should value our own things mire than the fake and old UB40 band. Expect, mosquitoes were nibbling away……..!!!
