Multichoice Zambia donated electric heaters, sugar, sour milk and cooking oil to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) children’s malnutrition as part of the company’s corporate social investment activities for the year.
Speaking at the event, Multichoice Zambia Public Relations Manager, Mwiika Malindima, said Multichoice was aware of the many challenges the children’s Malnutrition ward faced and further added that it was part of the institutions annual activities to donate essential food supplies and where necessary do maintenance work to the ward which the company had been doing the past nine years.
“As a business rooted in Zambia, we are always passionate about extending a helping hand to the people in the communities in which we operate, so today we are pleased to once again visit this ward which we have adopted and been supporting for years and hope that our donation will go a long way” . He further said that the wellness of society was key to the Multichoice business and was confident that people that are well can participate ably in meaningful economic development as a nation.
And speaking at the same function, University Teaching Hospital, Head of the children’s malnutrition ward, Dr. Amadi, said Malnutrition was a very serious condition in Zambia which most people tend to neglect. She further added that Malnutrition was a medical, economic and social illness which affected many children and if untreated led to death.
‘Malnutrition is caused by many factors, but the most significant cause is a poor diet, today’s gesture by Multichoice Zambia will help resuscitate the health of a lot of our children in this ward as what has been donated contains all the necessary ingredients for recovery. We would like to urge other corporates to emulate Multichoice who have supported this ward for 9 years consistently ‘
Dr. Amadi also urged the media to take keen interest in reporting issues on Malnutrition to keep the public well informed and help alleviate the scourge which she described as a social economic issue which needed every citizen’s concern.
In addition to the heaters and food supplies, Multichoice Zambia donated Television sets which come with free DStv subscription for the children’s ward.
