Mwanawasa refutes story

Share

President Levy Mwanawasa has refuted a story which appeared in yesterday’s edition of the Post Newspaper headlined ”This Chap KK is Decampaigning MMD-Levy.

In reaction to the story, President Mwanawasa said he never said what was attributed to him as the word ‘Chap’ was not his language and that he takes very strong exception denying that he never referred to Dr Kaunda as ”this Chap”.

In a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Special Assistant to the
President for Press and Public Relations, John Musukuma, Mr Mwanawasa said the
report by the Post was unethical as the meeting quoted was a Party Executive and
closed meeting.

Mr Mwanawasa confirmed talking about Dr Kaunda in answer to a question raised by one
of the party officials who
wanted to know why he was tolerating Dr Kaunda and Mr Sata who unfairly talk ill of
him.

The President said the Party Official in his question noted that Dr Kaunda would not
have brooked the amount of criticism and would have been quick to deal with such
people by detaining them adding Mr Sata being a disciple of Dr Kaunda would never
have tolerated the kind of attacks he had been making.

In response to the Party official’s question, Mr Mwanawasa said that he regretted
that Dr Kaunda does not appear to reciprocate the kind of treatment which he had
offered him as a parent and as the founding father of the nation.

Mr Mwanawasa said he did not deserve this treatment by Dr Kaunda and that he had
been rather unkind in his remarks about the MMD Government and the President himself
despite the many things which he had done for him

”I commented however that whether l really deserve this, the people of Zambia would
judge”, Mr Mwanawasa said.

With regard to MMD Presidential aspirants, President Mwanawasa said that the
contents of the story can only be intended to antagonise him against his MMD
colleagues.

The President explained that he informed the meeting that it was not the interest of
the party for him to step down before the 2011 General Elections and proposed as
”food for thought that the party could require him to stay on as Party President
until elections day and at the Convention they could elect a presidential candidate
who would become party president on elections day.

The President denied that his proposal to remain in office until election day was
for a perios outside the stipulated time and said that when the Convention is held,
he will  not have served either five years of the second term or ten years of the
cumulative period that he will have served.

”This would enable to lead the Party and to be at the head of the tripartite
elections. This would all be within my two terms both as Party and Republican
President.

In addition he also stressed the importance of selecting a presidential successor
who had integrity and who would treat fundraising for the Party as of paramount
importance because the party needed to be sufficiently funded to enable it discharge
its operations.

  1. The problem with Chuchu is that , he speaks anyhow and it appears as if he has no Personal advisors.Dr Kaunda is and still remains our father. He deserves respect and love. Whatever goes round will come round so Chuchu show courtesy to our beloved KK.

  2. Awe kwena, let me say something for LPM. Naba KK nabo bali chilamo. He has a comment for any little thing.Remember, this man never wanted to leave Plot 1.It is very possible that he is bitter.Fimo ba shikulu ba KK baleikala fye.Ka nchindi nchindi kali wama bane. His time is way past dusk.If he ever thinks TJ will be President of Zed, he is just dreaming.

  3. The press will never pass up an opportunity to twist statements made in the political arena. This how they sell papers everyday.KK should behave like a retired president..enjoy the goodwill of any sitting president. He fought our battles as best he could, let him now watch and PRIVATELY advise where it is necessary and only when asked.Bashi Panji niba shikulu besu BONSE,let him not divide us by siding with ANYBODY.He is supposed to be a unifying symbol for every Zambian and must NEVER be seen to be partisan.

It is good for democracy to hear that LPM intends to leave all positions at the next election. This tune must NEVER change otherwise the people of Zambia will make the remaining years a living hell for him. There is life after leadership…ask Clinton,Mandela,Bush Snr,Nujoma,Rawlings and now Tony Blair!!

  4. Why can’t KK just SHUT UP and pay his debt with Barclays et al or better still go to Shambalakale?
Isn’t it not KK who was talking about back to the land concept?
If this is what old age is about, then someone like LPM needs to make sure this chap KK is kept off the press.

  5. The best way to deal with facts is for LPM to sue The Post Newspaper for Libel. It does not make sense for him as the head of state to start issuing out counter-arguments for such matters which boarder on degratory remarks attributed to him as the president of Zambia and more so as the in-coming chairman of SADC. I wish to remind him that in as much as he helped source what was constitutionally due to Super Ken, he should not expect him to sit quite when certain things in the country are not well.

  6. Abena Truly Zambian, i hope you too is not wondering like me what type of rules exist in Zambia? They say rules created by the Govt/Poitician’s is the Law and those which they do not support as Crime.
They also say, a real citizen is never proud of his own govt.
Abena, Chitoba is not my tribesman, but Mulyata,Lyato and Mabenga are.
Am not been tribalistic but you mentioned the tribesmanship.
You know what i think of the leadership in Zambia and Africa in general, it should just be Replaced.
We were better off with the colonial rulers because LAW was LAW, and no one was above it including themselves.
Only vigilants like KK,Mugabe et al were opposed to the rule.

  8. #3 KC: KK has the right to comment on any issue and at any stage – national or international! His comments do not warrant insults for LPM. Even here in the USA, former Presidents, Jimmy Carter in particular, does comment on the government of GWB. These are normal tenets in a democratic society. Wise leaders accomodate other people’s view and learn alot from them – except George Bush (not wise but is accomodating).

  9. #10, yes he can make his comments, but not nefya bupuba naimwe. Ba Kaunda bafyashi balya.Do you hear USA former Presidents commenting on stupid things like KK.Do not over-exagerate the issue of rights coz they are not open-ended.

  10. Bene KK is still a member of the CIA. If you want to know more, just ask ba VJ on how he got his bu Dr Kaunda
.By the way mwalupwa abena Kanyata and KC help. what is the position of ba VJ ku South.

  11. Fellow zambians,

The post has thrived on negativism and lies most often pulling camps into antagonistic. zambians..i have mobilised some interested and professional zambians in the Diaspora in partnership with those keen at home to come up with a people centred Newspaper. This paper will run on a weekly basis untill but eventually circulate on a daily basis to bring sanity in the media frontier.I pray you my fellow zambians, the business houses and information sources will support the birth of this people’s initiative. If you know of some credible and hard working freelance writers keen to join on board, please get ready to forward their eyes to to our contact inform we will soon place in the print and electronic media soon. What you have cried for for years, has finally been concieved. Support it for a better aand balanced news.

  12. Mulyata/Chitoba probed
The Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed that it is investigating Southern Province Minister, Joseph Mulyiata for alleged abuse of office. And ACC Director General, Nixon Banda also says the commission is also probing Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Commissioner, Ryan Chitoba for abuse of office.Mr. Banda said Mr. Mulyata is alleged to have used his office to have an overloaded bus which was impounded by the Road Development agency in Livingstone, released. Mr. Banda however said he cannot give more details as doing so would jeopardize investigations
He was speaking during the ACC’s second quarter press briefing in Lusaka, Friday.

  13. Zambia is still a young democracy, which exhibits all the characteristics of an unsophisticated society. Firstly, it is embarrassing for anyone at the top of the ruling party to be inciting the president to ‘sort out’ his critics. Kaunda may have done so in the dark ages, but that sort of politics should not have any place in today’s Zambia. Secondly, it is doubly embarrassing for a president to be so thin skinned. He seems to react to every single comment made by the likes of Sata and Kaunda. A little thick skin would be better. LPM also likes patting himself on the back for ‘treating Kaunda well’. If by this he is referring to the house being built for KK, then the man needs to be reminded that KK is entitled to the house and that it is not LPM who is paying for it – instead it is the long suffering Zambian tax payers! On a different note, #13 good luck! I look forward to the birth of your brainchild.

  14. YOU HAVE KILLED THE FREE SPEECH SPIRIT

Lack of wisdom and failure to provide leadership when the blog traffic has exhibited a sublevel behavior of incest, impersonation and privacy rights bleach has compromised the future of this blog. Your inaction to loose wired kids has reduced standards and made visitors think twice about their participation. Wondering why Zambian online blogs have the shortest life spans. We talk of leaders on politicians, yet we are failures on small projects right here. Lifa, Jose, Kadansa and AM have beenn ignored insulting at our expense while the other fellow posting as Patron and Easy are exposing access to our IPs. Together, whether by collaboration or not, you have inhibited logic putting the blog on its death bed.lord help your people to act with wisdom even in differences. If this continues, where will leadersship come from after the serving?

  15. Truly Zambian (17),
To be honest, you are awfully dull, evil, hateful and too envious to hear others putting their lines straight in the economy. Your unrestrained envy and pain to see our people shape the future is no different to the pain “Noko” underwent the period your empty head resisted coming out through amatanta in fear of the world challenges. I support any business initiative that will promote diversity and enhance ethics in the media. M’membe and his Post Newspapers in 2006 Costed ubwato and our man of the people Sata bu Presido using their conspiracy editorials. We know they connived with your Ci MMD on the ground and in blogs to demonize him for weeks till the manipulators made the people accept the fraud. Entrepreneur, go for it I pledge my ngwee in your entity should you float shares. Shame this Demon calling himself Truly Zambian.

  16. Easy! Yesterday on the other blog you said you love viruses. Are you a computer hacker? If you are? LT should be sacred. On LPM vs KK. Looking at the utterances LPM made in the past. LPM is capable is saying such because of short temper.

  17. aweeeeeeeee ineeeeeee nshaaaaaaaaa baatukiiile ba KK.Banteeeendeeeka fye, kuuuuuuuti baaaaaaalalanda shanni so mu diaaaaaaaaaspora atiii ineeeeeee shabaaa bwinoo na paaarty yaaaaaaaaandi MMMMMMMMD?
Sorrrri baaaaaaaaKK,come for peerages at Staaate House

  18. I have respect for the Post Newspapers and I am alive to the fact that they also have a lot of compelling influence on a lot of people’s opinions on several national issues. While the post in it’s own right has become an “‘institution” It has on several occasions become personal and sensetionalised news without consideration to the injury done to the subjects.
During the run up to the last elections coverage of Micheal Sata was very biased against him. Coverage of Chiluba’s plunder issues in the recent times have been too personal. New it is this issue between Levy and Kaunda, What is the Post trying to achieve by driving a wedge between these two and their supporters over something that is debatable whether it was even said. The Post is clearly failing to handle news with responsibility

  19. Another witness, Mr William Ngungu, told the court that he was invited to a meeting at Mr Mushilis’ home where he had a drink and a hamburger.

He said at that meeting, voters’ cards and national registration cards were collected from people and that up to now, he still had not retrieved his card from Mr Mushili.

Another witness, Mr Kaputula Kabaila, testified that he was given K1 million to buy voters in Chipulukusu on behalf of Mr Mushili.Mr Kabaila told the court that a group called “patrol campaign group” was to give K10,000 to a person who brought a prospective voter and K5,000 to would-be voters whose names would be written in exercise books.Other witnesses, Ms Jane Lubinga and Ms Diana Mwale, received K100,000 each from Ms Jennifer Nafunkwe on August 22, 2006, to buy would-be voters in Nkwazi and Chipulukusu townships

    • Hi FlorianThank’s for your post!I know about the golgoe group and Ramun is already in it.We have a meeting this week where we build another 4 extruders. and then i can post the first good working version in the group!thanks!

  20. Chuchu learn to respect elders, kanshi wabashani iwe cabbage? apologise to the big man!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. allAfrica.com: Zambia: It Will Be Personal Defeat If I Leave Govt …President Mwanawasa asked. “Some of these chaps are looking back to nine years ago when I resigned from government and are hoping that I will resign so that …”
    allafrica.com/stories/200411030426.html

Chuchu that is your language just apologise, ulemu ulibe iwe. Whether it was a closed meeting or not it doesnt matter.

  22. Ba Joze mwamona chuchu takwata muchinshi kuli ba KK! Chipumpuntu ilamufulunganya nokulaba what he says after few minutes. Ba wiso ngabakulufyanya teti ubatuke insele ati kabili nabalufyanya. Chuchu learn to be patient and think before you vomit out your stinking words to ba KK. Whether KK wrongs you, call him because you have his Cell number, and talk about it in privacy. Ba POST, did you record those remarks, maybe you can replay them on National TV with your supervision? Iwe Kayata walipena sana, limbi ulatuka ba wiso when he wrongs you. KK is old enough to be Chuchu’s father, kabili chuchu should not boast that he is doing enough to KK because its not his money from Teka Farms, but the Tax payers’ money. Chuchu uli kateka wa calo, refrain from simple arguments with people, ok! By the way, how is Ba VJ pa Morningside Clinic?

  23. EVIDENCE OF CORRUPTION
HIGH COURT NULLIFIES NDOLA CENTRAL POLLS
THE Ndola High Court has nullified the election result of Patriotic Front (PF) Ndola Central constituency member of Parliament (MP), Mark Mushili, on grounds that he contravened the Electoral Code of Conduct by orchestrating a scheme to buy voters.
There was contrasting jubilation outside the High Court grounds soon after the judgment as PF supporters thought the judgment would be in their favour. The PF supporters, however, could not believe as they stood shocked in disbelief while MMD supporters went into a frenzy.PF supporters were waiting outside the court premises with a mock coffin covered in MMD chitenge with a placard reading: “In Loving Memory of Mary Zambezi, Born 1991, Died August 27, 2007; Cause of Death: Patriotic Front; Place of death: Ndola Central RIP.”However, after hearing the outcome, one of the PF supporters smashed the coffin and tore the MMD chitenge, prompting police officers that had been deployed at the request of assistant registrar of the High Court, Justina Makasa, to quickly move in to avert a clash between the two camps. This was in the case in which losing MMD candidate, Mary Zambezi, challenged the election of Mr Mushili after last year’s September 28 tripartite elections.Judge Munalula Lisimba said the petitioner had proved seven of the 15 grounds on which the petition was based. It had been proved that Mr Mushili had himself or through his known agents bribed and treated would-be voters. The court heard that during the run-up to the elections, Mr Mushili held meetings at different localities in Twapia, Hillcrest, Chipulukusu and Kansenshi townships where he distributed cash and feted would-be voters.Mr Mushili had also published false statements about Ms Zambezi, calling her a prostitute.“The first respondent committed the illegal act of publishing false statements. In our society, calling a woman a prostitute is tantamount to social debasement and hints at irresponsibility, which was destructive for a woman vying for an elective position,” Mr Lisimba said.

  24. Ba Kalembe,i did not insult shikulu KK, what i said is this man should first respect himself and then keep quiet. Look at Mandela, retired and kept himself to himself, when Annan asked Mandela to intervene on Mugabe, he said, “We are old now, we have left these things to you young men who are growing now..”
Ba Kalembe, if it was KK,he was going to talk non-stop, and these are the reasons why people are respecting Mandela.
ba Kalembe, isn’t it not KK who was talking about going back to the land for the retired?
what is he still doing in lusaka?
What impression does it give that a former statesman has failed to pay his debt?
    No regard for others.

  25. #26 I gree with you. chuchu mulwele, he once called pipo of bwengwa UNDP cadres as “buttocks” that’s when the late Andy said “nangula bamayo bali liule teti bafyale umwana levy” Reasons he said that:
    1. chuchu mungulu
    2. chchu ni cabbage
    3. chuchu alapwililila pakulanda, pakuti alande state house nishi na beans yapya.
    4. chchu wabufi
    5. chuchu ewalengele mama mokola ukufwa
    6. chuchu ni satanist umubi bad

    9. he does not dream
    10. he skip bathing

  26. No18. I have issues with some Post Editorials but I WILL NEVER advocate for the paper to go under. Mr M’membe is a true son of Zambia. Without him and his tenacity, Zamtrop would still be abused today. Without Post Dr Chiluba would have been having his 4th term in office. Let give praise where it is due. Please ba AM stop behaving like a woman with Pre Menstrual Tension. You are utterly senseless in your contributions. YOU WILL NEVER DESTROY PRESS FREEDOM IN ZAMBIA.

  27. Anyone exposing IP addresses is committing serious breach of confidentiality. If it State officers trying to stop free debate, they pay compensation in an international court. Don’t fool yourself you will cost the Zambian Government money.

  28. #31 Abena Truly Zambian, dont be cheated by these saying your IP address is blah blah blah blah,it’s total nonsense. Ask them to expose my IP and they’ll come up with a fake one, only those who donot know their IP’s are scared.

  29. Nepotism is the showing of favouritism toward relatives based upon that relationship, rather than an objective evaluation of ability or suitability. If we plot the MWANAWASA family tree,it would be quiet embarrassing to see how our beloved country is being abused. Our President even has the guts to say that his gov is of laws and not men and yet he`s allowing the DEC commissioner CHITOBA to cling on to his position despite such serious theft and corruption investigations against him and his deputy. We remember how LPM tried to shield BULAYA but failed lamentably because of the kind of pressure incorruptable Zambians passionately exerted.LPM sympathisers, this is your time to speak against such colous and evil behavior for us to see some objectivity. All we`re seeking is justice and alot of thanks goes to the selfless and determined Zambians that mean well for nation and have become whistle blowers.

  30. Kwena pa zed we are swimming in freedom. The post needs to be more responsible. Mmembe is actually corrupt, he pays bribes to people to source data. Maybe we should ban the post for a week, by seeking an injunction to stop them printing.

  31. Iwe Mwisho, webo wulipuneme. Webo wingalabila ati ba Fred bali corrupt webo. Mwati wulishibe corruption webo? Wikesho sho kutalika ichibili chamalasha ku states uko bakakwikata ba enviromental.
Ala kautupe evidence ya corruption nomba!

  32. I, AM the original Kaponya boy from Kulima tower disassorted myself from #18 posting. Pls stop stealing another pipo’s ID u Kantis. Iwe #18 whoever u are have some manners, stop impersonating me. Nganatapa insele tawatemwe. wamona nomba bakutuka kuli ci truly zambian. Pls note every one that I dont blog over the weekend becoz I go to Mongu for business. Bamwisho #34 bulekulabila ifye mano Ba Mmembe balalemba ifishinka, Chuchu alilabile uku this chap, ekana iyoo.

  33. Mwaba mwaice wandi there is no smoke without fire. Levy is careless in speaking he might have said so.
Suing the post is like stopping the freedom of speech.
Levy seems as if he has not mature and responsible personal advisors to deal with PR.He behaves like a mad boxer who wants to box even outside the ring.

  34. PurseGodessI keep sneieg holiday wreaths made from feathers that are colored or just white. Lots of crystal white, Winter wonderland , touch of silver decorations . I think all white, clear, silver ice type of crafts are great.
