A footballer has died in Chingola after colliding with an opponent during a FAZ Division Two Copperbelt match on Sunday.
Gregory Kunda, a striker at Chingola Police Blue Stars, died on Tuesday at Nchanga North General Hospital where he was admitted after colliding with an unidentified Lime Hotspurs defender in Chingola.
This incident on the final day of the FAZ Division Two season allegedly left the 22 year old striker with an injury near the stomach.
Kunda’s death was announced by club secretary Japhet Zulu on Wednesday morning.
“Kunda died on yesterday around 17h00 at Nchanga North General Hospital where he was admitted,” Zulu said.
“He was pushed-in (introduced) in th game with 15 minutes left to play. He then collided with a defender and that’s how he was injured,” he said.
Lime won the match 2-0.
Kunda was part of the Chingola Police Blue Stars squad that secured promotion to FAZ Division One last month.
“It is very sad for the club. He was one of the best players we had and he has died at the time we have won promotion,” Zulu said.
The funeral is in Kitwe’s Mindola Mine Township and burial is set for Chingola Road Cemetery on Thursday.

What on earth is an injury near the stomach? its either stomach injury, chest injury, kidney injury, bladder injury, liver puncture etc. There is no such thing as borderline injury of near stomach
@Peter, do you want Zambians to be as blunt as me? Ok then let me tell it, Kunda was smashed ku ma tole. When secretary said “he was pushed-in”, means his ama T were pushed in as far as near stomach.
Ama T nga yaingila mu “stomach” your eyes flip to white, and so painful. Kuti wafwa, thats why other players rush to pump legs so ama balls goes back in the sack. In this case Kunda umwaiche ama T got stack.
