A Zambian National, Paul Sikazwe who was detained at Westville Prison on charges of causing alarm and panic at King Shaka International Airport, contrary to the Terror Act, has been freed.

Sikazwe appeared in a Durban Court this Thursday afternoon and pleaded guilty to the charge of causing panic and alarm.

The Judge convicted him to a R15,000 fine suspended by R12,000( meaning he only paid R3000.00) and released him upon paying the statutory fine.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba confirmed the development.
On Friday last week, Sikazwe joked to an airport security officer that he was carrying a bomb when the lady asked him the content of his hand luggage.

Police quickly swung into action, searched and detained Sikazwe for causing panic and alarm.

Nothing was found in the bag and his pleas that he was merely joking went unanswered.

There was celebrations outside the court when Sikazwe was released, and was greeted by Zambians led by ZASA leaders in Durban and Pietmarizburg-KZN.

    • Ni Bomber (Thick jacket) akwete mu chola mwebantu, it wasnt a joke but , trying to use local language in international fronts

  1. This is a place where they burn people alive instigated by the very chief after whom the airport is named ( or with a similar name), they create their own terror. Having said that, it’s really dumb to joke about bombs in this time of terrorism. Bet you won’t forget this one. Kudos to the Zambian community for their show of support.

    • Correction: The airport is named after King Shaka, not King Zwelithini who instigated the xenophobic riots.

  2. He thought he was at a Zambian airport where PF cadres are free to breach security as they wish.

  3. Awe ba Lusaka Times you are a circus: The Judge convicted him to a R15,000 fine suspended by R12,000( meaning he only paid R3000.00) and released him upon paying the statutory fine.
Arent you supposed to say: The Judge sentenced him to a R15,000 fine R12,000 of which was suspended for (period must be in judgement).

  4. Surely in this RSA are there no assistant secretaries. …it’s always this crook Mwamba in front. I hope they charged this silly boy Sakazwe the full fine so he feels the pinch of his folly.

  5. Zambians also. What is there to celebrate. Hope he has learnt how to behave when on foreign soil

    • I agree with you @ carelesswhisper nothing to celebrate, the chap has low IQ as not to weigh odds choosing to be foolish passing a silly joke when the world is on terrorism alert. Now he may have earned a tab among those to be treated with suspicion wherever they travel also putting innocent traveling Zambians in jeopardy. Do we even know what other conditions have been attached to his sentencing? He may have been barred from traveling to RSA for all I know!
