  1. There is more to why people go out of the country for treatment than just equipment, PASSION!! People wanting to go the medical way should be subjected to some form of psychological tests before enrollment. We need people who can manage their frustration rather than transferring it to their patients.

  2. This is wonderful news indeed. Here in RSA the hospitals regard Zambia as their biggest ATM in the Diaspora. They mint millions of Dollars annually from Zambian patients, especially politicians. The Zambian government should use that money to improve Medical Services….

  3. Who has procured the equipment and at what price? Who is funding or paying the US experts? Why even publish such a half baked article…whats wrong with Editors today you send a reporter to UTH and he comes back with this rubbish.

  4. A simple sustainable solution is to education. Our future medical students can become doctors and manage sick patients. There are a few key ways such as looking into medical volunteer programs for doctors. Although this falls under tourism it gives a chance for doctors abroad to come and share their knowledge and skills and pass it on to not only students but fellow doctors. We call this a transfer of skills and those very international doctors can help us get top of the line equipment either by donation. Of course with our grade 7 tourism minister such is beyond her comprehension. Cubans and Russian doctors are the best to approach. This will help keep money in our economy, save lives, train and teach our own Zambians and build a better Zambia. Get rid of uneducated politicians. Its…

  5. Bottom line is when Zambians travel abroad for treatment, Zambia loses out on money that could have stayed in this country. When you have politicians flying for treatment outside does nothing for Zambia. You have flight costs, hotels costs, hospitalization, medication, food costs, transportation within the country. All these add up, now imagine 20 politicians, their families, girlfriends, boyfriends, concubines etc. This is what is hurting our economy. Someone needs to pay for these costs not using tax payers money. If we rehabilitate our infrastructure, get new state of the art equipment will save lives and benefit our economy. Then we can have neighbouring countries bring money to our economy if we invest in ourselves first.
