Luwingu District Commissioner, George Mwamba has appealed to the people of Luwingu to go for Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) in order to be equipped with knowledge of how to stay safe.
Mr. Mwamba said this when he addressed several people who attended this year’s National VCT Day held at Lubaseshi Middle Basic School yesterday.
He said it is important for everyone to know their HIV/AIDS status, as government has continued to provide free anti-retro viral therapy to people living with HIV/AIDS in the country.
He urged the people who have just tested positive to be examined by qualified doctors first before rushing for ARVs.
Mr. Mwamba expressed disappointment that although the people know the causes of HIV/AIDS, they ignore them and continue living promiscuously.
He said women exchanging sex for money or gifts, cultural practices such as having dry sex and others have highly contributed to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
Mr Mwamba however expressed happiness that the traditional practice of widow and widower cleansing is slowly disappearing because of the chiefs’ and village headmen’s involvement in discouraging it among their subjects.
Speaking earlier, District director of Health, Gaston Ilunga said Luwingu district has a total of 428 people on anti-retro viral therapy.
Mr. Ilunga said there are 155 male adults, 10 male children, 250 female adults and 13 female children on ARV treatment in the district.
He said some people are dying of the disease because of fearing to know their status.

Where is the privacy here. how can pipo go for ARVs when they know they will be announced
This is not good and because of ARVs people are looking extra fat – as if they have pumped them like a baloon, just waiting to explode!
Even if people know their HIV status most are still out there sexually active. I know some scandalous women that are HIV positive and are knowingly infecting people because of their new found ‘thickness’ from the ARV’s
The AIDS virus was created by man. Intentionally. The AIDS epidemic was designed with specific goals in mind and carried out according to plan.
What we’ve come to believe about AIDS is what we’ve been conditioned to believe by the carefully planned and sustained campaign of disinformation, that “AIDS is a plague of nature; but not to worry, it
will spare most of us, if we behave ourselves”.
We’ve been conditioned to believe that AIDS is, so to speak, an act of God.But it isn’t. AIDS was not an accident of nature. Nature had nothing to do with AIDS. The virus is a weapon of man against man. It is a weapon of war, deliberately created inside the top-secret U.S. Chemical and Bacteriological Warfare laboratories.
What is the population of Luwingu? 428 is a high number.
# 6 Woman of substance, you have preemptied me. LT simply saying 428 are infected is not good enough. Stating the population of the people of Luwingu would be helpful as it will enable us analyse what %age of the population is potentially infected.
exactly what i was saying earlier on.. What are the NGOs doing? You cant bring your own western workers to come and work in your organisations in an African setup as development workers when they lack the grass root experience of issues surrounding the problem of HIV in Zambia. HIv and AIds in zambia is not just a straight forwrd issue which can be solved by westerners who have been sitted comfortably in their nationsreading about African development economics and think that they can change things here. There is need to empower our people by giving them influential positions in such organisations whilst working hand in hand with the same westerners. It should be like a second training for them..so that they can realise the deeper issues surrounding the Aids problem in Zambia.
Luwingu is a very small town; the population should be about 1500. Am so sure all are affected as they are so many impali and then the remaining free agents are free for all. In Zambia people are so careless and thinks ARVs are the only life line left. I mean how the hell do you sell a bath tub on the street – that is how much lawlessness the country has become, worse to exchange AIDS.
cont,
It will not take overnight to solve the AIds problem in Zambia. If the problem is psychological as stated above then my friends this means educating citizens from a young age.. If anything there is need to incorporate AIDS in the curricculum in schools. Every nation needs to adapt its education to its environment or features. e,g the UK has been adversly affected by the credit crunch you will be surprised at how fast the subject or issue of the credit crunch was fitted into the university curriculum.. So therefore Zambia needs to have a malleable education system which changes in response to changes in the social spheres.. and AIDs happens to be such a change and problem yaba
Good message.
On “He said it is important for everyone to know their HIV/AIDS status, as government has continued to provide free anti-retro viral therapy to people living with HIV/AIDS in the country”, let those with ears hear and do the right thing. However, fellow Zambians remember that God, our designer and Creator, answers prayers and it is never to let for Him to heal anyone completely.
All the very best to everyone in your future endeavours.
Enjoy!

numbala 7 even if LT tells you the exact statistics.. one person infected with HIV is all that is needed to start a spread of fire..
Number 11, We cannot deny God’s ability to answer prayers, but he chooses to answer prayers in his own way. Paul one of God’s faithful servants of old had to contend with a “thorn in the flesh” did God miraculously heal him? No! Rather he helped him endure the trials. What about Timothy and his stomach problems? Did Paul prescribe prayer as a solution to his(Timothy’s) problem? Why not?
#1 Dongo na sundu, these r just statistics no mentioned of names so privacy is maintained
That’s very good!! Atleast lives of people infected with HIV or Sida will be prolonged. Please fellow bloggers help me on this one:Are the ARVs given free of charge in Luwingu?I aint got a clue!
If I had a chance to manufacture ARVs I will make sure that they instantly kill whoever drinks them, they are responsible for giving strength to people so as to spread the disease. If Aids was killing people fast say just in days after one contracting it,it would have been eradicated by now.Prolonging lives means giving chance to spread it.
Wait till u are infected or affected! lelo chili pa munzako, mailo chili pali iwe….
Very good thinking Ghost dog,
Guys bonse tulibalwele, its just the level of sickness thats different..Time will tell, hoohoooho
cant stop coughing!
POPOOO YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.. TOO MUCH NTHWENULISM WITH STRANGERS IS BAD..THATS WHY I HAVE SEX BUDDIES
I am really looking to the day when they will be able to cure HIV/AIDS, we have lost a lot of people we love along the way. If this pandemic was created by man as “1984” says, ten it should have an antidote. I personally feel that the sore called the first world is not very committed to fighting this scourge because it does not affect them in the masses like it does in Africa. Publishing stats on people on ARVs for me is not privacy, it actually creates stigma.
God is able read math 10v1 only those i say only those that belive in him will have these benefits
DAISY WHATS UP?U ARE FROM LUWINGU-WHAT CAN YOU SAY?
too bad.northern province is under threat
#16 and #17, Imagine its’s your mum who got infected by mistake by a careless nurse, would u say the same? Look at a bigger picture. Not all get infected by choice. And remember that its the most productive age group that is affected most. Do you know how many people are on ARV today in zambia? If they are to die as you would like them to, do you know how many ophans we are going to have??
# 16. & # 17. Your ‘antidote’ to stem the spread of a pandemic has no precedent in the whole history of mankind. HIV is not like Swine or Bird Flu. The latter are highly contagious by droplet transmission, yet there has never been a suggestion for unorthodox measures aimed at stopping their transmission from person to person as your prescription would suggest. We are dealing with human beings here, not guinea fowls. HIV positive persons are as human as any other person; they have families, children, jobs to look after and can continue to contribute positively to the well being of their families and national economy provided their condition is managed properly. What a callous proposition!
#16 and#17…?How dull and insensitive.Do you also kill the innocent Hiv+babies or those who get it from their unfaithfull partners..or and those who acquire it through blood transfusion?are Hiv+ people dogs so that we just get kill them all?will that make the world a better place?I wonder
NUMBER 8 AND NUMBER 10..I DIDNT THINK YOU HAD BRAINS LIKE THAT!? KEEP IT UP YOUNG MAN.. NOT THOSE INSULTS WE SAW LAST TIME
# 16. & # 17. In South Africa alone, over six million people are said to be living with HIV. Bearing in mind that most of those affected are in the productive age ( 14 – 45 years), what would be the economic impact at household and national level if the South African government were to follow your draconian prescription by rounding up all HIV infected persons and throwing them overboard into the Indian ocean? Heck!
