Authorities in Mazabuka have secured land where a government sponsored high school will be built.
Mazabuka Town Clerk, Ekan Chingangu disclosed the development to ZANIS in Mazabuka yesterday.
Mr Chingangu said management at the Zambia Institute of Animal Health (ZIAH) has agreed to surrender part of the institute land for the school project.
He said the local authority remains committed to supporting government’s efforts meant to promote the education sector, especially that the council has hatched an ambitious programme to attain city status by 2015.
Mr Chingangu said the council will do all it can to ensure a high school is built in the town centre to increase the enrollment of pupils.
He said the massive investment being recorded in the district requires people who are educated in order to implement the development agenda for the district.
Mazabuka district has no go government high school and the situation has made it difficult for education authorities to adequately post pupils progressing to grade 10 because of lack of space.
The only mission schools have rejected the government policy to scrap the lower grades at high school, claiming doing so would compromise education standards.
ZANIS
Shame on Zambia! How can a govt not have a high school in a big town like Mazabuka?
1 Nkosi, Mazabuka has a number of schools just in the area of about 1.5 km from town Centre. These are St. Edmunds’ Secondary/High School where I was mentored by Catholics though GRZ has a share of about 70% school running and Mazabuka Girl’s Secondary/High. School. There is also Mazabuka School of Continuous Education where pupils learn from Grade 8 to 12 and various arts programmes in knitting, woodwork, etc. are conducted. About 1 km from Town Centre, there is Kaonga Primary/Basic and Secondary School which is located in the vicinity of the Ministry of Education.

1 Nkosi greetings, there is also St Pauls’ School which I believe offers programmes up to Grade 12 including industrial life skills just about 1 km from Town Centre. It is looked near Namulonga Basic School.
Coming to the news item, the “Mr Chingangu said the council will do all it can to ensure a high school is built in the town centre to increase the enrollment of pupils” is surprising for ZIAH is some 3.5 km far away from the Town Centre following “… Zambia Institute of Animal Health (ZIAH) has agreed to surrender part of the institute land for the school project“.

1 Nkosi, my postins above are clearly in line with “The only mission schools have rejected the government policy to scrap the lower grades at high school, claiming doing so would compromise education standards” for my thinking is that the High School in this news has to do with classes starting at Grade 10 to 12 including form 6 – just like Hill Crest in Livingstone and DK in Lusaka.
As for “He said the local authority remains committed to supporting government’s efforts meant to promote the education sector, especially that the council has hatched an ambitious programme to attain city status by 2015“, I am all ready to help develop Mazabuka to City status for I will work hard to plough back into my home towns and Country.

Ndasoleka kwaamba but lc cut off all the statements I put forward. Candipakuti ndileke buyo. I have been to Mazabuka 96, 00 and 07. Standard of living is falling that used to be a bus stop in the 1980s after moving it from Mukadam store site.. is now a market area. I strongly dissagree with anyone suggesting that schools should be located in town centre. Look at Munali where I was educated b4 moving to living in Europe, it is peaceful just 10-15km from town centre away from noise makers like heavy truck. .. Mazabuka roads leading to Nkabika and stage II have been damaged by rain. No access by car like they were in the 1970s, Mazabuka a home of Zam sugar should not be milked of its resources without development to the area
I honestly thought the demand for a town like Mazabuka would be a government nursing school and tachers training.I believe the schools recieve enough capital fundng from ministry of education.CDF,ZAMSIF,opec and the world bank has released billions in the past and these schools are not improving. They use cheap paint, pupils still sit on the floor, use VIP toilets and literally have no water, gardens or lawns.WHo cares is my HEADACHE.Do you need to give all the schools money every year? Zambia sugar has in the past also given huge sums of money to the Maz schools but is it showing! Parents too are probably are to blame because we pay so much tax and we take our childen to private schools to learn passed papers! We should put cdf together for one district project. Tha is my suggestion
Its true we need a government high school in Mazabuka.i have lived in mazabuka all my life, went to mission secondary schools but this never crossed my mind.Mazabuka girls and st. Rdmund’s secondary schools are not government schools. in short the government has not educated the citizens of mazabuka, it is the church which has.Aya makani tali maboyu, nga mause
