Zanaco players boost Zambia CHAN camp

Zambia are at full strength after the five Zanaco players joined camp in South Africa for this weekends 2018 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) away qualifying date against Swaziland.

The five players left Lusaka after lunch on Tuesday just 24 hours after landing from Morocco where Zanaco were eliminated from the 2017 CAF Champions League quarterfinal race following Saturday’s 1-0 away loss to Wydad Casablanca.

The Zanaco CHAN call-ups are goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata, defenders Ziyo Tembo and Taonga Bwembya including forward Ernest Mbewe and Augustine Mulenga.

Zambia Under-20 midfielder Boyd Musonda was not selected.

They joined their counterparts from 2017 CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinalists Zesco United who arrived in Johannesburg on Monday afternoon.

The six Zesco players are defenders Simon Silwimba, Fackson Kapumbu and Kondwani Mtonga.

Attackers Dave Daka, John Chingandu and Jackson Mwanza complete the Zesco CHAN call-ups.

The arrivals from Zambia’s representatives in the just-ended CAF inter club group stage matches replaced the 8 players dropped after Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Zimbabwe in the 2017 Cosafa Cup final played in Rustenburg.

Zambia will wrap-up their South Africa camp on Thursday ahead of Sunday’s CHAN first round, first leg match in Mbabane.

Swaziland will visit Zambia for the final leg on July 23 with the winner over both legs advancing to the final qualifying round in August.

Victor will next month face winner of the of first round tie between Botswana and Bafana Bafana who meet in Gaborone this weekend in the battle for a place in January’s tournament to be hosted by Kenya.

  2. this is fun indeed and it is not taking us anywere it seems like their is much funny to our coach ,,,,,

  3. Who cares? We don’t care anymore. Just give us the U20s thats all. The likes of Donashano Malama will never take us anywhere.

  4. OK, so the camp of those who lost in the COSAFA cup has been boosted by another group of losers from the Club continental championship. This is a worrying situation.

  5. The State of Emergency was a draconian instrument used by the apartheid government to detain people in large numbers while bypassing legal avenues. People could be arrested and held in undisclosed locations, while others could be killed without the police or other state security apparatuses being held to account. Statisics reveal that there was a correlation between, on the one hand, increases in detention, deaths in detention, resort to exile, and the declaration of a State of Emergency on the other. Despite heavy-handed crackdowns on political dissent throughout the apartheid period, people continued to fight against apartheid. With sustained internal unrest and international pressure, the apartheid system unravelled, to usher in a new era of democratic rule in South Africa.
