construction of township roads in Serenje District advances: A Contractor working on Serenje township roads China Jiangsu, paving one of the roads under construction in the district. The National Road Fund Agency has said that it spent 5.3 billion Kwacha on the construction of roads in 2017. Agency Board Chairperson Christabel Banda said that the money was well spent because roads are key to the Country’s economy.

Mrs. Banda said that her agency is expected to fund the construction of more roads in 2018 and that the Road Development agency will continue to construct toll gates in order to find the money to finance the rehabilitation and construction works.

She said this during a cocktail organized by the NRFA, Road Development Agency and the Road Transport and Safety Agency.

Speaking at the same function Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota said government will continue building roads across the country. Mr Mushota said the construction of the Great North and other roads is a sign that government means business.

Speaking earlier RDA Board chairman Samuel Mukupa thanked the workers at RDA for their hard work in ensuring that government’s agenda to build roads is realized. Mr. Mukupa said in a speech read for him by RDA Board member Matthews Ngulube that government will ensure that the roads that are under construction are completed.

RTSA board Chairman Webster Nonde said his agency will continue reducing the number of accidents on the roads.

  1. “Agency Board Chairperson Christabel Banda said that the money was well spent because roads are key to the Country’s economy.”
Of course its been well spent, given that it costs about $1million per kilometer, no one complains ….wasted years indeed!!

  2. how much went to local contractors and have they been paid cause you can’t spend when you say spent when you owing.

  3. You know at first CK was not making any sense to me on corruption, but one of the rats ‘Koswes’ spent $288, 000 on one land cruisers ambulances but Sweden has donated 25 of them far less the total cost of one bought by aba ba koswe. I hope President Lungu does not need any more evidence.

    • There was a quotation from Toyota Zambia for $70,000 one. But your PF govt bought them at $288,000 each.

      $218,000 more than…

  4. “K5.3 billion spent on the construction of roads in 2017”. That is a useless piece of information as a standalone. How many kilometers is this money equivalent to? What percentage is this of the expected coverage per a certain development plan? What was the amount spent per kilometer? How does that amount compare with the amount spent per Kilometer regionally, and internationally. Perhaps another greatest question would be: How much of that K5.3 billion was for ECL’s cronies, and by how much did ECL’s bank balance change during the year?. Those are accountability questions that Mr. Incompetent’s government needs to answer.

  5. “the Road Development agency will continue to construct toll gates in order to find the money to finance the rehabilitation and construction works”. How many toll gates does the country need? Am no engineer, even I can tell that the quality of these roads being built wont last. It hard to hold back the tears to the amount of theft going on.

  6. You trust these “RATS” at your own risk, most of this money has been pocketed.
Poor civil servants like that victor above are just booylicking for a living

  7. If these roads were the key to the economy then why do we have to beg IMF for $1.3 BILLION and why wont they give it to us. Because we are at HIGH RISK OF DEBT DISTRESS does that sound like a country that has benefited economicalyl from all the roads to nowhere.

    • IMF if full of Freemasons and HH is their friend. They want to help him get to power at all cost. The IMF is ready to pump more money into Zimayamabwe which is 10 times more distressed. Wake up!

  8. How much was per km costing both industrial and domestic, how many kms are constructed in that?….how long are they going to last?…
Tel the tax and toll payers in full…don’t be brief bane that’s money….
