Splinter Catholic Church launched

Share

A SPLINTER Catholic Church called the Catholic Apostolic National Church of Zambia has been launched with Archbishop-elect, Luciano Mbewe, calling for more priests to join the church and fulfill their God-given role by marrying.
Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) spokesperson, Paul Samasumo, said in reaction that he did not have much information about the newly formed church but was aware that the Catholic bishops in
Zambia would preside over the matter next month.
Father Samasumo said in an interview in
Lusaka that the newly formed church had created parallel structures in the Roman Catholic Church and could not claim to be part of the Church.
Archbishop Mbewe said during the launch of the new church which has strong links with excommunicated prelate Emmanuel Milingo that the hour had come for priests in the Roman Catholic Church to start marrying and taking care of their forsaken children.

Archbishop Mbewe who is also the apostolic administrator of the new church said over the years most priests had laboured quietly and prudently to advocate for the restoration of married priests in the Roman Catholic Church.

Archbishop Mbewe said during the ceremony held at Peace Embassy that there were moments that the priests hoped the restoration of married priests would be made
possible.

Other church leaders who had since been co-opted in the church attended the lunch.

“We feel duty bound now to found our own Catholic church, an independent Catholic church where we can truly enjoy the freedom enjoyed by children of God. It should surprise no one to hear of yet another Catholic church,” he said.

Archbishop Mbewe said there were other independent churches that came into existence especially in the 1870 AD when some bishops broke away from
Rome over the issue of Papal infallibility.
He said freedom of worship as enshrined in the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) charters stipulated that it was an inalienable right to found churches and worship God without any interference from any quarter.

Archbishop Mbewe who served as a Roman Catholic priest for over 17 years said the problem of mandatory and compulsory celibacy for priests in the Roman Catholic Church was crucial.

He said profound pain and suffering had been caused to priests as a result of celibacy and that most of this pain and suffering was uncalled for.

He said the celibacy found in the Bible was not compulsory but optional. Archbishop Mbewe said Jesus Christ refused to make celibacy compulsory but left it optional.
“The majority of these priests and bishops do not have this gift, they are like the majority of humanity and they deserve to marry and still continue to minister to God’s people,” he said.
Archbishop Mbewe said it was a known fact that nearly all the apostles to Jesus and the first Pope, Peter were married and so were the other 28 Popes as the Holy Bible stated that being accompanied by a wife in the ministry was not a minus but a great asset.
He said celibacy was made compulsory in the 12th Century for dubious reasons but it was never accepted in practice.
He said the priests and bishops resisted the man-made law and they appeared celibate in public yet privately they were going out with women, a scenario, which he said even prevailed today.
Archbishop Mbewe said the celibacy issue had led to some priests contracting HIV/AIDs.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Mbewe said the church should work with the Government of the day. He said days are gone when the Church was the enemy of the State.

  1. Arch Mpundu you knew all these things before joining the catholic church, Hence stop being selfish and stupid at the same time.
No one forced you in joining them, why should you shout the louderst now, you just want to earn a living through all this coz if you are a desent man you would have reseigned quietly get married and lead a normal life.

  2. Its good that you priests should now take responsibility over the children you ve fathered allover.
Its not easy to see your child grow while you the father(priest) see yo kids grow asking where is dad.
Bravo priest, marry and enjoy sex in marriage than outside with prostitutes. Its a shame to see how some of these priests behave in the dark. Ala niba champion ngapafita

  3. Luciano Mbewe should just take care of his children he had through his promiscuous life he led in the dark. Now he wants to hide in the name of celibacy of the Catholic Church. This is the result of being promiscous and a bad seed. No one forced Mbewe to go for priesthood, where he knew the conditions of being there. He should go for HIV/AIDS testing because he might be a virus carrier because he has pulicly stated that he led a promiscous life when he was a priest. Mbewe, how many bustereds do

  4. Cont.. how many bustards do you have with those street women you slept with in Kabelenga Avenue in Ndola? Luciano Mbewe is trying to earn a living and get out of poverty life he is leading now. Actually, you should be proud that the Catholic Church educated you, and now you have turned against the finger that fed you. Anyway, even the Bible says so that people like Mbewe will turn against their own. I don’t know what he will teach his flock after leading such a promiscous life. Shame on You.

  5. Kalembe Kafyuke(5),

You and your street lingo also. By any chance have you ever squeezed your father under pressure asking him how many of you bastards you are in total out of his pervasive life?

  6. Hilton hotel mogul donates $1.2b to foundation

LOS ANGELES – Hotel magnate Barron Hilton has pledged 1.2 billion dollars to a family charitable foundation and plans to leave the bulk of his fortune to the body when he dies, a statement said on Wednesday. The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation said its chairman would place 1.2 billion dollars from the sale of Hilton Hotels Corporation and the pending sale of Harrah’s Entertainment into a charitable trust to benefit the foundation.

  7. Hilton, 80, also indicated at a recent meeting of the foundation’s board of directors that he intends to leave 97 percent of his entire net worth — estimated at 2.3 billion dollars — to the foundation at the time of his death.“Speaking for the family as well as the foundation, we are all exceedingly proud and grateful for this extraordinary commitment,” said Steven M. Hilton, president and chief executive of the foundation.

  8. I am not religious and I know very little about the Roman Church, but I rather agree with #1 jb. If you are going to join a club and you know its rules, you should try and abide by those rules. You can try and change some rules to improve the club, but there are some rules which are cardinal to the existence of the club. These cannot be changed. Presumably these people have the choice to resign the priesthood and becoming lay people?

  9. Mutunza, SAGE, Chapi, Chitapankwa, Socrate,Kalembe Kafyuke, Masa Musi Yandalama, Original Pundit and Joze,

Your senior Party member in PF is under some sustained attacks. You cannot abandon him only this time after all your sycophancy over the months recorded here. Chiluba has been a faithful PF bank roller and voice of PF when you have just been rumbling helplessly in the virtual community. You are proving to be cosmetic PF cadres keen to regress back to comfort zones when under attack.

  10. Chiluba is behaving like a rabid dog, says Panji (Post Newspapers)

CHILUBA is behaving like a rabid dog, Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s son Colonel Panji Kaunda has charged. And Dr Kaunda’s other son Kaweche has threatened to sue former president Frederick Chiluba for claiming …

  11. Most of us have been brought up attending churchs whose doctrines we may not agree with later, this might have been the same for Archbishop-elect, Luciano Mbewe. Remember the the Anglican Catholic emanents from the Roman Catholic.

Am wondering why the ROMAN Catholic Church should sue for the use of the name Catholic. I know some churchs which use the name Catholic but are not part of the Roman Catholic. In Greece, Egypt, China and the Church of England is called Anglican Catholic in Zambia.

  12. Lubinda, be honest

    By Zacharia v.

The response given by Hon Given Lubinda (PF Spokesperson) on the suspected theft of K4.5 million contributed by the members of parliament to the Mtonga family (The Post, Monday 24, 2007) was extremely nonsensical and annoying.

  13. Lubinda should not try to be that smart to evade giving honest answers to the public as he did with Sata’s faking of the lost passport, Taiwanese donations, etc. He shouldn’t turn himself into a mopping cloth for the Patriotic Front and Sata in particular.
Surely, is it normal to think that the contribution made by the MPs was meant for the PF to ferry their cadres to the funeral? How is it that Sata was not even aware of this huge contribution from MPs to the family of the late Hon Mtonga?

  14. Please Lubinda, there is more honour in accepting a mistake and apologising than trying to justify wrong doing. I am always amazed with your outstanding abilities in constantly covering up huge heaps of dirty daily seen in the PF and your robust reactions to similar mistakes when they are committed by the ruling party. Anyway a party like PF requires a spokesman like you who can act both as a mop and a bin.

  15. “PF suspends Matero MP over ‘leaking’ funeral donation story” Quote

If this callous and unfaithfulness is dominant in small things, its impossible for PF to handle with integrity the national treasury. PF is a cursed and disgraced party. Stealing from a mourning family of their own senior party official is an act of a heartless thugs party.Henry Mtonga must be turning with pain in his Grave cursing PF never to rule this country with their heartless behaviour.

  16. Oho who is Mulongoti we have looking for his biography there is now about him. Now he want to succeed the current president. If pipo dont know how can they vote for you. I know you are an intelligent person but we need your background before we endorse our finger stamps on your vote. Even the outside world have asking who is this person.

  17. Now celebacy well its difficult to get the true background of the roman catholic church. Do they follow Jesus because he didnt not marry or its Peter or Paul? Peter was married b4. Paul there no records. The problem is the children born behind backwards from these priests. Is to marry a sin? The say go and multiple I thought this rule anchor here. The problem is divorce which has taken the world with such a trend.

  18. #21 Lusakan, Normal the radio station closes at midnite but its now 01: 07 Radio 4 is on playng music. Is this the news strategy?

  19. #16 Observer. Can you stick to the current topic please? Some of us are sick of what passes for politics in Zambia. There are no parties in Zambia, only vehicles owned by individuals with aspirations for plot 1. ANC is a party UNIP belongs to Tilyenji, UPND belongs to HH, PF belongs to Sata and MMD at the moment belongs to LPM. These are not parties. Any person with a modicum of intelligence would know that.

  20. Mutunza,

A day or two ago i did rebuke you for your passion for Bwanji.com a morally bankrupt site where singles parade themselves for an easy pick up.I did so on the basis that you claim to be a married man. Decently married to a woman you treasure, respect and have a binding matrimonial agreement with? You urgently need a social or marriage counselor. Your passion fort Bwanji.com confirms your marriage has serious holes. It lack a background, culture and values if not yet mature for marriage

  21. I have been trying to catch Radio in Zambia but have failed, Easy – Are you in Zambia or else where, If else where how do you catch Radio 4.

  22. I strongly believe yours is a marriage of convenience devoid of a period of dating, courtship and ceremonial take off. There is evidence, lacks self respect, values and appreciation. You patronize Bwanji.com watching and charting with those half naked girls to quench your mental rust a behavior not consistent with a responsible husband. You need deliverance from a spirit of rust and start investing in your so called wife to appreciate her. Doing so will restore you from that Demon of cyber sex.

  23. If you don’t invest in your wife in the days of your youth, respect, protect, jointly support your two family sides evenly and access her to some higher-level opportunities to actualize her potential, your wife will look emotionally distraught and take away the love from the marriage.I can assure you, if you are married to a properly culture wife with strong upbringing, your woman will be a life time asset. She will stand with, protect your interest and keep all for the safe under lock.

  24. I showed your response to one religious minister and these are his remarks: After reading through Mutunza’s excuse, “I don’t have to wait for a mature answer why he patronizes wicked sites”. I have the answer now. Demons! Mutunza needs an exorcism and no Christian ever seems to know this & dare to find Mutunza’s real source of pain and cast it out in the name of Jesus.

  25. Chitapankwa(23),

It seems reality has confronted you too.Our virtual community rumbling here is Garbage in, Garbage out. It has no processing center as Professor Fackson Banda the Chair of the School of Journalism in SA has put in his column article in the Post Newspapers Zambia. All we rant here is very irrelevant typical of armchair criticism. PF,UNIP & UPND are already in hell while MMD is consolidating its long haul in power.

  26. Ba mulongoti wants to be President?
    Oh yea?
I can remember the Man mensioning his academic qualifications when he came to China and not enlightening anyone about Zambia’s independence on the 24 october.
OOOPS, i did enjoy the Mulongoti academic day 24 october.
Perhaps he needs to get back here and celebrate with us next year but this time he should not 4get that the DAY is more important,,,,then qualifications later.
    VIVA mulongoti….

  27. Mbewe twice you are leaving the church.First you came and apologised & church following Christ teaching forgave u.And u now have left becoz of lust for a women. Those ARVs u are taking wont save u if u continue ur promiscuous life. What makes u think that all marriage men are not promiscuous.Just go in peace,u have proved that u are unrepented human being. The church chased u as a priest becoz of ur promiscuos life & misconduct.I urge u to remove you name Catholic and replace with Misconduct.

  28. Cults and christians does not mixed just come out and tell the nation that you are cults organisation lead by the moonist and former archbishop. FISASHI MWA SASHILA CHI MBEWE!!!

  29. Am a strong catholic raised in a strong catholic family and i think its time priests were allowed to marry. However, i still believe would-be priests should evaluate themselves before joining priestshood because they already know that the principles of the church currently demands celibacy from them. No need of joining then later on breaking away and making stupid comments like Mbewe is doing right now.
And yes, they should find their own name, not catholic blah blah blah…

  30. the catholics must accept that reform is inevitable.it is more difficult given that the reform involves the fundemental principle of celibacy.like with all things celibacy should be a personal choice and existing priests should ideally not fear excommunication should they marry.if the Catholic church wants to remain relevant in todays society they must embrace reform.Ways of worship have evolved with time to remain relevant and attractive..catholic doctrine cannot remain in the dark ages!

  31. catholics must realize that, like business strategy, the church must be dynamic to meet the changing needs of its “customers”& counter the strategy of their “competitors”!the core “business” of any church is to worship God & that is the only thing immune from change.this may sound radical but its reality!!if catholicism is to survive the next 20 years they have to embrace change!

  32. Lusakan
I went to bed after 01:00. You can get Zambian Radios online at Coppernet website. The radio stations have been online since 2006 please dont miss home the radio can bring you near. If you have a portable PC and Hotspot you can listen to Radion anywhere including at work depending on the job you are doing.

  33. TOP remember God is immortal and constant. So dont force these catholics to change what they believe in. The good thing is as human we have he right of choice. So many catholic churches around the world has decided to have preist married as a result they backoff because of celibacy. The angelican church also has its problems of gay priests.

  34. Public Linso,

I didnt know that Bwanji has easy-pick nude gals on there. How did you and your Pastor know that the gals are easy pick after all? Kansi muna yesako te?
Anyway thanx for the advice. It must have been a hard earned experience you had with the ‘little’ gals.

    Enjot your holidays,

  35. ba Easy(38),the intention is not to force anyone,i’m told nowhere do it say priests must be celibate, nowhere does it say do not drink either!Celibacy “helps” with dedication and mirrors Jesus’s life(unless you believe the rumours that Yesu was married and had children!!)”Keeping the flock” is complicated business now and the church has to adapt to changing times.A virgin nun is a requisite but is it reality??Worship styles have evolved so must the church, only God is the same!

  36. #34 Ba Pundit, you have a point and I concur with you.In this day and age the catholic church should be more liberal and the clergy should be less hypocritical. Thanks for your logical contribution.

  37. #34&35 if you are not a catholic dont comment becoz you dont know whats good for catholics. Why do you comment any how without bases?Catholics themselves knows what is good for them and what they want for they mother church anyone against should be not be be a catholic, afterrole there many church you choose from. Those priests who what to marry are free to leave the catholics church they are not forced at all.Catholic church is for the pipo who gave themselves total to God,not chancers like Mbewe.

    • I may have been late on this blog. But listen. Whether Catholic or not, most religious dudes do not know the foundation doctrines of the “church denominations”. Some said these words, ” I you want to hide information, put it in writing on paper”. It is true that most you have not read the roots of you denomination. Catch up with I.T go online and browse for whatever subject on your denomination. \:d/

  38. what you should know is that the catholic church is built on foundation of the rock and no amount press will destroy it. It has survive the past centuries and it will survive the next centuries to come, until Jesus comes!

  39. Churches are like political parties. You first weight the manesto of the different parties before you join. The same with the church before you commit yourself you first go through and read the constitutions and what that particular church believe in before you made your mind to join. period!

  40. Bwana Mbewe you have not being faithful to the church and you will still not be faithful to your wife to be. ULIMPULUMUNSHI YA KANTU! finish.

  41. I had a very interesting phone discussion with Pastor Watson Kondowe on this issue last night. My view on this topic, as I explained to Pastor Watson, is that although the action of the Milingo/Mbewe splinter group is not in good faith, it is a very important development for the Catholic Church. The action is not in good faith because the advocates of the splinter church are already ‘married’ and have violated the Catholic Laws on which they were ordained.

  42. If only they started this ‘fight’ whilst they were in good standing and fought from within (although we know how difficult that could be). On the other hand, this is a very important development for the Church in general. There are a number of misconceived doctrines upon which the Catholic Church is founded that must be challenged/addressed – for the salvation of the many Catholics, and one such doctrine is that of Celibacy.

  43. If you read on the ‘evolution’ of Celibacy in the Catholic Church from the Catholic Encyclopedia (article to big for me to copy and paste), you will begin to realize how misconceived the doctrine is and will tend to agree with the Milongo/Mbewe splinter group. Given this article on celibacy (Catholic Encyclopedia), it is only right that this doctrinal misconception be corrected.

  44. At catholic.org/encyclopedia. Just because a person became a Catholic Priest under and agreed to follow a wrong doctrine does not mean they should be eternally bound. Upon realizing their mistakes, they must repenting and seek to correct the mistakes. This is not the first time in the history of the Catholic Church that people are seeking to ‘break away’ – Martin Luther and the Protestant (reformers) movement in the sixteenth century, The Anglican Church (16th Century),etc.

  45. In modern times, this is significant in that it is being spearheaded by an African (Elias Milingo) and is taking root in Zambia. If it succeeds, it will be the greatest religious revolt of all times. This said, the question of whether it is enough to form a splinter Catholic on the basis of a single doctrine is a matter of public debate.

  46. My questions to the splinter group are: i). What will be the basis of their faith? ii). Are they going to adopt all the traditional Catholic doctrines and beliefs with the exception of the Celibacy rule? It is my view that absolute reformation of the Catholic Church should include making Jesus Christ the central point of faith and all prayers. Any splinter Catholic Church must recognize this.

  47. In essence, this entails stopping having prayers through the Virgin Mary and the ‘Saints’, doing away with what I call ‘parrot prayers’ (memorized prayer) that have no bearing on the needs of the people reciting them. Making Jesus Christ the focus of faith demands that his followers be Born Again – accepting Jesus as Lord and personal savior and living a life worthy of their faith.

  48. Those break aways you talking about of Martin Luther and the Protestant (reformers) happended centuries ago but the catholic church is stil going strong nothing has changed and nothing will change even if the Anzanga group breaks away now!

  49. Mr ChandafKaunda take out the log from your eyes so that you able to see well a ….. in others. What makes you think catholics have not accepted Jesus as Lord and personal savior and are not living a life worthy of their faith. THOU NOT CHARGE!!!

  50. #53 Do you call citing memorised prayers for two minutes after a Pastor without going through bible instructions as being born again?

  51. those that administer the affairs of the catholic church know that the “hour has come”!change will be effected at their own pace as they too want the church to survive.you cannot stop the winds of change.a break up of the church is not in the Vaticans interest as they have enough problems with declining church membership.things will change and Archie Milingo & co will be remembered one day as the catalysts of that change!

  52. Anonymous (54-56) In the first place I hope you read the article I referred bloggers to. If you did, you were not going to change the topic to the long term existence of the church. My contribution was on the interpretations of the doctrine. Those that break away do not aim at ‘killing’ out the Catholic Church but do so because they find the catholic teachings ‘lacking’ in scripture.

  53. # 54, did you mean JUDGE? I was not being judgemental. There are many Catholics who are faithful and live a worthy life, but their faith is fed wrong scripture – by this I mean the interpretation of the scriptures. This is a well known matter in religous circles. Bringing up the angle of reasoning to the reasons for breaking away is not being judgemental. You need to understand other people’s contributions before you accuse them of “CHARGING”.

  54. What do you mean by their faith is being fed on wrong scripute? Which wrong scripture? My dear be reasonable and concetrate on your personal relation with God and dont judge other pipo’s faith lest you are judged.
