Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to rise up against the PF Government for allegedly imposing heavier taxes on the people.
Mr Hichilema said Zambians must rise up and reclaim their nation from the PF’s misrule.
The UPND leader told a media briefing at his Nee Kasama residence that Zambians must unite and get rid of the PF.
“Zambians wake up. This is not ending anytime soon. If we let this go on unabated, the PF will reach 100% taxation on your income, not for them to give you free education, health care and water, but for them to buy personal to holder Landcruisers. Rise up.,” he said.
Me Hichilema has also called on the PF leadership to bring to an end these taxes on a population that is hardly surviving.
“Taxes on rentals, internet, roads, PAYE and several others being introduced by the PF are not only in bad faith but hurting our country’s economy,” he said.
“As if it was not enough that Zambia is one of the countries with high costs of doing business, the PF is making it even more costly,” Mr Hichilema said.
Mr Hichilema stated that the latest internet tax and several other taxes are only a channel for the Patriotic Front to continue plundering public resources and day light robbery.
“We all know that these taxes will end up in people’s pockets like the case was in the 42 million US$ fire engines. A situation that remains unresolved. These taxes are hurting the poor, the jobless youths, widows, women and many Zambians whose hopes are pinned on a low cost business environment,” he said.
Mr Hichilema observed that the 30 ngwee is the mark-up most small business persons make on their goods and services they are providing in this depressed economy.
“This is time to get rid of the PF burden and together as citizens we must stand up and reclaim our country. Fellow Zambians, it’s time to say: enough is enough! We have better alternatives than this PF government that will stop at nothing to suck the little you have as citizens for its own benefit.”
He added, “They got “kaloba”, against all economic reason, and we told them these things will come to bite the citizens. Here we are now,” he stated.

I am sure the gentleman understands that Telecommunications is an entire industry that employs thousands of people. It is common knowledge that companies and organizations have to invest in labour, equipment and infrastructure to enable access voice and data services.
If it is true that 80% all voice calls are now internet based, that should tell you that the value of the return on investment is severely reduced. Yes people pay for data, but mobile service providers do not own that data (they retail), and as such revenues earned cannot cover the cost of running these large corporations. What happens when that happens, these losses hit home? Job losses, who will cry foul? What will the man say then?

Many Zambians don’t even know that apart from property rates which we pay to municipal councils there’s all land rates which is supposed to go to GRZ but government has for a long time not enforced it. The proposed Internet charges are not new or unique to Zambia, here in Namibia you get charged as well. When you top-up with 5 dollars, 10 p is deducted as tax and you remain with 4.90 dollars.
And neither do we appreciate that the aid we receive is from taxpayers overseas.

As patriot living abroad I need to correct the fake and wrong impression made by UPND that Zambia doesn’t borrow money but should solely depend on its tax receipts to develop Zambia.There is no country on earth (none whatsoever) that solely depends on domestic taxes to build critical infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools etc. UK debt as a ratio of the its GDP is at 85%;so the UK treasury borrows to sustain and build futuristic infrastructure. But the the difference is that the majority of the debt stock is domestic. In Zambia’s case both ECL and HH are competing to auction Zambia’s sovereignty. Both these gentlemen are striving to borrow externally to please their masters.

HH you are the one delaying change. Give chance to someone trust worthy. UPND is suppose to be in power by now but people don’t like you. Musankwa why can’t you leave politics and concentrate on your business. Be like Dangote. You are even worse than ECL. We know you hate Lungu and the only way to beat him is by giving chance to someone else to be UPND president. That way, both of you, shall be civilians and you can meet in a bar and fight physically to settle your enmity. So if you love this country, be Democratic.
