Improvement of airport infrastructure in Zambia is strategic to the re-establishment of a national airline – Mundubile

Government says the improvement of airport infrastructure in the country is strategic to the re-establishment of a national airline.

Northern Province Minister Brian Mundubil says that the upgrading of the runway at Kasama Airport and partial commercialization of Mbala’s Samora Machel Air force base, for example, will allow for smooth in-flow of air traffic into the region once the airline is operational.

ZANIS reports that Mr Mundubile said this in an interview after he inspected works on the construction of a new runway at Kasama Airport.

The province is currently repositioning itself for a boom in the number of investors and tourists beyond the investment and tourism exposition slated for November.

The Provincial Minister expressed confidence that the re-opening of the airline will also help to enhance the prospects of export of perishables from the province.

Government and the Ethiopian Airlines recently signed a shareholding agreement to relaunch the country’s flag carrier at an initial cost of $30 million

And Mr Mundubile has asked the Chinese Contractor working on the project to strictly observe the presidential policy on the sub-contracting of 20 percent of works to local contractors.

Meanwhile, project resident engineer Witika Chileshe informed the minister that the sub-contractors have already been engaged and various works allocated have been allocated to them.

  1. This is a great piecework President Lungu, Zambians are begining to be happy after 54 years of independence, we are now beginning to think.

  2. THE ZAMBIA AIRWAYS will definately make huge losses and will be boistered by the treasury through taxes by ordinary Zambians.
We’ve heard GRZ say it will be viable. Please take a look around and see how regional airlines like SAA, Kenya Airways, Nigerian Airways and not to mention Zimbabwe. They are all LOSS making. Air Malawi had a bad Business experience with Ethopian Airlines.
What will be different with Zambian Airways??????????????????
    ARROGANCE!!!!

  3. But where is this national airline. The first plane is supposed to take off on 24th October. Will kasama airport be ready to receive it?
