Minister of General Education, David Mabumba says his Ministry is focusing on transforming and reforming key components in the education system.

Mr Mabumba said the Ministry will focus on four pillars which include teacher recruitment, text book development, publication and printing, school furniture and school infrastructure.

Speaking when he visited Senanga district, Mr. Mabumba said decentralization of teacher recruitment will improve the education sector as local teachers will be willing to stay in their respective schools where they have been recruited.

The Minister also urged school authorities in the district to utilize the local timber in making school desks.

Mr. Mabumba said importing school furniture should be discouraged as the district has the capacity to make desks for schools adding that youths should be engaged in production of desks so that they are empowered.

He stated that President Edgar Lungu has been emphasizing on creating employment for the youths hence giving them an opportunity to manufacture school furniture would greatly contribute to youth empowerment.

Mr. Mabumba also advised teachers not to make it mandatory for pupils without Information Communication and Technology (ICT) learning materials to write exams in ICT.

Meanwhile, Senanga District Commissioner, Vivian Mubukwanu urged the Minister to visit schools in outskirts in order to curb high levels of indiscipline among teachers especially absenteeism and lack of seriousness towards work.

Mr. Mubukwanu further called on the Minister to give authority to the district to finish school structures that are among abandoned projects by contractors in order for the materials not to be wasted.

And a teacher Amon Choponyo said good infrastructure is important for the development of the education sector and the ministry should take active measures in following up abandoned school projects by contractors.

  1. SAME STORY ALL OVER AGAIN – SINCE 2011 YOU HAVE SAID YOU ARE GOING TO TRANSFORM SCHOOLS AND TO DATE RURAL SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO SUFFER ! NO ELECTRICITY, NO BOOKS, NO PROPER INFRASTRUCTURE – YOU EXPECT THE POOR RURAL CITIZENS TO BUILD SCHOOLS, BUILD TEACHERS ACCOMODATION AND THE LIST GOES ON. STOP TALKING NONSENCE

  2. Just cheap lies – it is as if we are still in the 60s with very few enlightened folk and no Internet. What did we do to deserve this!?

  3. You keep aiming but when are you going to implement so that we see that you are working? Same story everyday until we reach 2021. Why do we have such people in strategic positions like education? This is the engine of the economy but alas we have inept and disorganized morons lost in the wilderness. Please try resigning for once and show us some dignity.
