Police Block Nevers Mumba From Entering Vubwi

The Zambia Police Service in Eastern Province yesterday afternoon blocked New Hope Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) President and his delegation from entering Vubwi district.

Dr. Mumba who launched the Mobilization Drive in Chipata City, was yesterday scheduled to launch the Mobilization Drive in Vubwi district.

New Hope Eastern Provincial Chairperson Mr. Yotam Jere asked the officers why they blocked the road and the unnamed officer in charge said that they had received instructions from above not to allow Dr. Mumba and his delegation from entering Vubwi district.

In an interview after the blockage, New Hope MMD National Secretary Hon. Elizabeth Chitika wondered why a former Republican Vice President was banned from entering Vubwi district.

“We are shocked by the conduct of the Police. We had informed them in due course that we would have an indoor meeting to meet our structures here and they gave us a go-ahead. Today, we are shocked that they have blocked Dr. Mumba, who was a Republican Vice President from entering Vubwi. What law is the police using now?”, Hon Chitika asked.

Dr. Mumba is in the province with New Hope MMD National Chairperson Ms. Winnie Zaloumis, National Secretary Hon. Elizabeth Chitika, Chairperson of Transport and Communication Mr. Chaka Zulu and other senior party leaders.

  1. PF govt is allergic to people’s freedom of movement & speech. These are traits of a desperate autocratic govt.

    • Ignorance of the worst order, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Public order act and Bill 10 was not even the answer to the public order act. All that is required is for the Police to behave according to the law, the Police are not allowed under any law in Zambia to give permits. They DONT have such powers which they have continued to abuse unabated. So don’t mislead people that bill 10 was going to sort out the public order act – THAT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE

  2. Very primitive this government, please we have moved from stone age to iron age to computer age and we are now in the digital age. What dallness is this, Kanshi. Let the man move freely. The Police cant continue wasting fuel and human resources on this usiless activities. There is need to change the people at the top. This cant continue to be tolerated and condoned NO

  3. Back to the colonial days, The way colonial police used to attack African leaders. Harry Kalaba has been blocked many times, Same with Nevers Mumba, with HH he is basically a prisoner in his own country. Normally failure in governance, arbitrary suspension of civil rights like in our country will also translate into poor economic performance like the case is for Zambia. These things are very interlinked.

  4. How can we expect to have free and fair elections when Police block opposition political party members from mobilisation activities ? Whoever gives instructions to Police to block opposition wishing to meet their members is breaking the Zambian law and is an enemy of freedom of assembly and democracy.

  5. MISSHANDLED, MISSUSED, MISSPLANNED,MISSPRIOTIZED, MISSCOMMUNICATED, MISSREPRESENTED, MISSINGAGED, MISSADMINISTERED, MISSCONDUCTED, MISSFRAMEMED, MISSCAULCULATED, MISSINTRODUCED, MISSTRANSFORMED, MISSUNDERSTOOD, MISSECONOMZED, MISSINDUSTRIALIZED, MISSLEAD AND MISSRULED ZAMBIANS FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS.
    SO KUYA BEBELE.
ONLY A MAD PERSON WILL LINK PF TO GOOD LEADERSHIP.

  6. Surely Lazy Lungu is now afraid of his own shadow…you are now afraid of this man of Gold…really laughable!!
