No Freedom of Expression In W/Province

Share

A senior citizen in Western Province has accused the Provincial Administration of denying the people in the province the freedom of expression.

Mumbisho Mulele popularly known as Mwana-Muchembele said that the provincial administration has strategically made it impossible for the residents to freely express themselves.

Mr. Mulele said that some senior government officials in the province were in the habit of threatening people who go on the two community radio stations to talk about development and the mismanagement of funds in the province.

He further accused senior officials at the provincial administration of over exercising their powers by denying the residents freedom of association.

Mr. Mulele said that the provincial administration has on a number of times barred residents from holding public meetings by instructing the Police not to issue permits to hold meetings.

He said that people intending to hold public meetings aimed at discussing developmental issues of the province were normally labeled as anti-government and often accused of wanting to overthrow the Litunga.

Mr. Mulele said that situation was oppressive and retrogressive to the development of Western Province.

He has since vowed to continue exerting pressure on the erring officials till the situation changes for the better.

And scores of Mongu residents yesterday called for the immediate arrest of senior government officials that are cited in the Auditor General’s report as having misappropriated funds meant for development in Western Province.

The residents said that it was eminent from the audit report for Western Province that controlling officers at the Provincial Administration were corrupt and needed to be brought to book.

The residents demanded the arrest of the provincial controlling officers at a public forum organised by the Press Freedom Committee of the Post newspaper.

A Mongu resident and senior citizen Lawrence Nyambe said that officials at the provincial administration were frustrating government efforts to develop the area by being corrupt and need to be arrested.

Another resident Samuel Wamui said that senior officials at the provincial administration were letting down President Mwanawasa who was in a hurry to develop the country.

AND former Permanent Secretary for Western Province Silumelume Mubukwanu said that the positioning of government officials in one place for more than ten years was retrogressive and detrimental as some officials tend to grow combwebs.

Meanwhile another senior citizen, Moto Moto appealed to residents to form a sub-committee that will sternly deal with the culprits that have been revealed in the auditor general’s report.

Mr. Moto further urged the residents to officially lodge a complaint at the Police so that a case can be opened to bring the culprits to book.

And Director for Mongu Diocese, Nathaniel Mubukwanu says part of the poverty in Western Province is created by government controlling officers.

Mr. Mubukwanu said the revelations in the recent Auditor General’s report were a vivid indicator that the controlling officers entrusted by government to manage government resources were mismanaging the funds.

He said it was sad that the province has remained the poorest of the nine provinces in the country in spite government releasing funds to develop the area.

Mr. Mubukwanu said that the grave anomalies that are enshrined in the Auditor General’s report for Western Province can not be accepted anywhere else in the country.

He said that it was sad that security wings were adamant to action by following up the misappropriation of funds as indicated in the Auditor General’s report.

And speaking at the same forum, the Assistant Director under the Auditor General’s Office in Western Province, Tackson Mweemba says auditors in the province get frustrated by non reaction by members of the public to audit reports.

Speaking at a public forum organized by the Press Freedom Committee of the Post in Mongu yesterday, Mr. Mweemba said that members of the public were supposed to take keen interest in the auditor general ‘s report because they are the tax payers.

Mr. Mweemba that as concerned citizens, Mongu residents were supposed to be showing keen interest and take appropriate action to rectify the anomalies that are exposed in the Audit General’s report.

He said that it was frustrating that the Auditor General’s Office produces reports every year without the public taking any action.

Mr. Mweemba has since assured that the Auditor General’s Office will continue doing its best in compiling the reports but that the final reaction should come from the people who are the owners of the money.

He has further appealed to residents in the province to utilize the Auditor General’s Office whenever they have an issue.

  1. These are self made problems. You don’t mess around with MMD machineries.Sata;s hands are increasingly becoming heavy with rubbish to clear before public confidence.Pride, ignorance and lack of lessons from the fate of UNIP in endless strife has come to eat PF.Since 1996 UNIP belabored to reconcile and hit the road but its getting worse.A former rubbing party now has only 1 seat in the house.MMD has taken the battle into PF.Sata with a damaged heart, i’m sure MMD has done its timely home work and invoked the crisis machinery in PF. Sata will have more than enough to occupy him politically while these MMD are consolidating their power with or without Levy.Who else, Sakwiba is already swallowe

  2. Sakwiba is already swallowed, HH has a dangerous tribal tag exploitable when time calls on MMD to finish him, Nawakwi has the carlington maize case just revived, Nevers Mumba has the dishonorable Anglo American lie he made in solicitation for a VP appointment. Its unforgibale in MMD rank and file heavy pull on his nake though chasing in vanity for a place in MMD. His party is just in his flop flapping mouth rhetoric. Ken Ngondo like Nevers is another comedian of the time.

  3. Pf leadership has no mandate – sampa-bredt

By Patson Chilemba, Lambwe Kachali and Noel Sichalwe

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Chawama member of parliament Reverend Violet Sampa-Bredt yesterday said the current party leaders do not have the mandate of the people but the appointing authority.

And Chifunabuli member of parliament Ernest Mwansa said Sata is victimising PF members of parliament sitting on the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) because he is afraid of them.

  4. In an interview, Rev Sampa-Bredt said party members were yearning for a convention where leaders would be voted for democratically.
She said the issue of a leadership vacuum would not arise if the party went for a convention.

Rev Sampa-Bredt said Sata should facilitate the conference and ensure that he allowed people to challenge him.

“The structure in MMD is very clear like we read from Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda. Equally, I think if PF should go to a convention and elect leaders, there should be no leadership vacuum. We are yearning to see that a convention is held where true leaders will be elected,” she said.

  5. Asked if the current leaders were not true leaders, Rev Sampa-Bredt said the current leaders were true but there was need to remove the system where only one person appointed leaders. She said there should be a system of continuation in the party, saying if old leaders retired, the new ones would take over.
“The party should not disappear in thin air when our leader has gone or retired,” said Rev Sampa-Bredt.

On Sata’s recent statement that party ‘rebels’ would not be allowed to attend the conference slated for September, Rev Sampa-Bredt said she was still a PF member and that she would attend the conference.

Rev Sampa-Bredt said the injunction restraining the party from expelling her

  6. Rev Sampa-Bredt said the injunction restraining the party from expelling her still stands.
And Mwansa wondered why the PF had continued to accept the money which donors were contributing to the party through Parliament when its members of parliament were being rejected.

Mwansa said even Sata would need a majority vote at the national conference for him to retain the presidency and that it would be difficult to do that if some members, particularly parliamentarians sitting on the NCC were barred.

He said the top party leadership should not continue to fight their members but should instead promote unity and prepare for the next general elections in 2011.

  7. “As far as I am concerned, I chose to be PF and why should I be victimised? And this issue that us sitting on the NCC are not part of PF, I think the matter is still in court and all of us are still PF members until the courts of law dispose of the case,” Mwansa said. “I don’t think we can be barred from that conference because we chose to be PF and we don’t need to be victimised.”

Mwansa also said PF was a strong party and would not be hurt by negative skirmishes.
“All I can say is that Mr Sata is our president and PF is a very strong party. It won’t be hurt by few skirmishes. I have great hope for the future of our party,” said Mwansa.

  8. Luapula member of parliament Peter Machungwa said only God was eternal and that human beings who occupied leadership positions could be replaced any time.

“We have had presidents who have come and gone,” said Machungwa. “I am sure if you look at leaders like the Queen of England, she has been in that position since the 1950s but at one time or another, she will be replaced by someone. Change is always inevitable.”

  9. STUPID POLITICS!THE STRONG KEEP REIGNING BY DESIGN WHEN THE RANTING HEATS UP,THEY LAUGH OVER.

    STUPID POLITICS

  10. Is really necessary that Western province should have freedom of expression? To express what. Those chaps sold this country for an Admiral’s suit and every year they have to remind us by wearing it at Kuomboka! Shaa!

  11. Yes these chaps are proud to wear that rubbish and paddle their as”’ like hell during the kuomboka. These chaps are just useless tribalists and their women are arrogant and ugly like the sudanese from darfur

  12. It appears that only 5 families are actively involved in politics in the whole province. Its either Mbikusita lewansomething or Winasomething or indeed Sikotasomething awe mwe! Dont you have people there!

  13. Well I feel it is wrong 4 pipo from any region in Zambia 2 b denied a chance 2 express themselves. What kind of a democracy is this? Pipoz opinionz must b heard & respected. The issue of mismanaging fundz is very unfortunate especially coming 4om western & not luapula or northern. We must alwz remember tht each one of us is a potential thief. Lets not call each other namez. We hav a common mother called Zambia.

  14. KKK?
Ulicipuba? How can someone call himself KKK? Is it a case of not knowing what it means? If you are black then you are a dim wit!

  15. #18 I COULD HAVE PUT ZZZ MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO ME JUST TELL THESE NORTHERN PRIMATES TO STOP THIS TRIBAL RUBBISH!

  16. #15 kkk,
please change your name, its very desrespectful for a black man to be asociated with pipo who hanged blacks and burnt them alive.i think you were just ignorant and i 4give u but please change your name, white pipo might just be reading this and are laughing there lungs off.

  17. I really feel sorry for #10 and those who think the same. It is shameful that at this time and age, #10 and fellow his cohorts should be labelling other tribes as tribalists when we are supposed to defend what is right. Most of these named senior officials actually are men and women from other tribes to take up senior civil service positions in the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation. If this is payback time, say it so that the people of Western Province can defend themselves. Mind you, there are some unresolved issues between Barotseland and the rest of Zambia. Why is it that you chaps are always negative when it comes to Lozis and think Bembas are the Moses of Zambia? Cheap thinking.

  18. #23 Chintu Bwingi
There’s no such thing as Barotse Land and the rest of Zambia. Get an education. Its One Zambia One Nation you silly boy. Go back to sleep

  19. Westerners please stop halucinating. That barotSeland agreement is now history. You will never have it reinstated because you are too docile and cowards for that matter. You are just daydreaming lozis

  20. HH is not a tribalist. He is just a successful young man from Monze. And he is a Zambian who went to UNZA.Some people hate HH just because he is tonga. But your evil plans on HH will fail.
BAROTSELAND will always be special and the agreement must be reinstated.U must know that there is also Lozis in Namibia.Lozis are a great people. No 25 it is you who is daydreaming.

  21. First of all, I have to agree with #26 on the comment of HH. HH is just a successful man who majority of Zambians are jealous of. Come 2011, they’ll be shocked to find HH has taken office.

Second, i would like to commend the Lozi’s or the people of Western Province for the stance they have taken in trying bringing the supposed money pocketers to book. If there is a case against the officials, then well done. If there is no case, then come with better evidence next time.

  22. The real problem in Western Province is under development which all the 3 Govts in Zambia have promoted so that western Province does not develop at all.

  23. In every country in Africa there is always a strategy by govts to deliberately shun certain regions.Despite certain areas having sufficient resources or not the govt will make sure that certain tribes or groups of people are marginalized. This happens in almost all African countries.

  24. Is the Litunga overthrowable? It seems as though the people in the western province are oppressed by their Political and tradtional leaders. Last time is was the banning of Bemba music on Radion stations by the Barotse Establishment. Let the people be free .

  25. Look at Niger delta in Nigeria it is the richest oil producing region and yet it is one of the poorest regions in Nigeria.

  26. Just speak. Western Province is not Swaziland. This monarch thing you brought on yourself and today you’re complaining. Mulena!

  27. Imagine ,Obama was contesting for Republican Presidenvy in Zambia in 2011.I can rest assure you that he would lose, why,we still want to have somebody only from our regions to rule the whole country.
In America, our friends have learnt to overlook colour of Obama, all they see is an American, period.

  28. Now all I can say 2 u all is tht stat listening 2 roots muzik. Enh Listen 2 Lucky Dubez TOGETHER AS ONE,Culturez TRIBAL WARZ & Bobz AFRICA UNITE. I AM SURE WE HAV BETTER ISSUES TO TABLE enh!

  29. Barotse Agreement: We have to be realistic when tackling this issue. The Lozis are always demanding to have half of Zambia. This say this is what is contained in the agreement. What they forget is that the BSA company took advantage of the Lozis’ ignorance and backwardness at that time and tricked them into believing they could be given all that land!

The BSA’s requests were rejected by other tribes because their offer was very unrealistic. Per Barotse Agreement, the Lozis want half of Zambia; what will they do with it? Look at Western Province: the least developed.

  30. The real issue is in what state is the presdo in the military hospital in Paris? not this tribal nosence. You people the presdo is DEAD period. Lets prepare for elections in 3months time. Please those pretending to be praying just stop and start praying for the peace of mother Zambia. The presdo is connected to the machines which, when switched off he grow cold.

  31. Now this chap # 35 is it Defao shud realise tht Obama is not yet president tho I envy him too. Bt in politics we dont count chicks b4 they hatch. Ask ba SATA or 2 take u back 2 yo America Algore whatever his name.

  32. All the learned Lozis I know (and there are so many highly educated Lozis) choose to invest out the province. Who do they expect to go and invest in Shangombo, for instance, if the Lozis themselves shun the area?

It’s high time the Lozis stopped blaming other people, especially Bembas, and start concentrating on developing their province. They want half of Zambia and yet they can’t manage a province. Shame.

  33. I strongly agree with people who have sited lack of development as one of the contributing factors.Who would have thought places like Shangombo existed where people walked about naked?
Government shoud start with constructing tarred roads to those areas maybe even have one connecting us to Angola.

  34. lozis just start mining diamonds in the zambezi, dont just fish there….
also demand for sesheke -senanga road construction not rehabilitation….forget about mongu kalabo road…how do yo build road on water…construct kalongola-kalabo road…
advice is free get or leave it…..

  35. #It is possible to build a road on water. How long is the Tuta Bridge?
If Govt concentrated on connecting all the people of Zambia by way of constructing proper roads that will make a very big difference.
The fish industry would expand – some countries have fish as the main export.

  36. THE dogma that controlles little mindedness is alway revealed by the failure to discuss the issue at hand.what one does next is to express ignorance even where you are not supposed to inform us on how primitive or archaic you are.zambia needs proactive people who are able to provide solutions to cases like corruption, health improvement in clinics, improved standards of learning facilities and job creation and not tribalist comments which wont give you food on the table.fight the fung mismanagement going on so that both you and i can be happy.both you and i need each other in one way or the other.

  37. # 10 Democrat, enlighten me they sold the country for a Admiral’s suit and every year they have to remind us by wearing it at Kuomboka!

    More on this please

  38. Its such a shame that you can even think of an agreement which is non existent! Barotseland nonsense ask Sikota Wina to tell you what he did

  39. 26, 28, definately HH is heading for greater heights come elections. The young man drives a harder bargain.its unfortunate we have alot of arm chair critics on this blog who are upto no good but just to critise some one for his hard work. That HH will be President of this nation soon, those who can read the political direction this country is taking will agree with. Time will tell. Look at the steer he caused over the wknd at the Umutomboko ceremony (i was there myself and witnessed it) to an extent of Govt officials becoming jittery coz of the attention he recived. What does that tell you?

  40. No one is calling for the Barotse Agreement in this article. Also the notion that Loziland extends beyond the boundaries of WP is a non-issue. What these senior citizens are complaining about are issues affecting their province such as corruption, theft by public servants, and lack of freedom of expression. One of the problems with this province is that it’s economy remains ‘closed’ and CSO consistently ranks it to be the poorest in the country. Yet it can thrive on mining, fishing, tourism [Kuomboka, wildlife, waterfalls. The Kuomboka, has been there for the last 200 yrs, yet there is no infrastructure at both Limulunga & Lealui to cater for visitors]; rice farming; horticulture, etc.

  41. There alot of people who hate Lozis i wonder why…ant they people just like you and me. And about the baroste agreement just go to google type in the word and ask for the agreement you find it wa actually singed. You must be foolish to say its none and void when it was signed between KK , the Litunga and British Govt representative.

I have not seen anywhere in the rest of Zambia where such an agreement was signed. So as far as am concerned their is one royal establishment that was recognised by the colonial masters.

i rest this issue, i guess their is need for people of western province not to be supressed.

  42. But why cant we just let those lozis secede since most people dont like them anyway. .Why should we force them to be part of Zambia if they dont want. Let them be so we dont have to worry about them mwe! So do we just want them to be in Zambia so we cab enjoy taunting them. If we dont want them, let them go but if we accept that they are part of Zambia then we should treat them as such… Zambians.

  43. #48 Don’t lie to people, there is no such thing as Loziland because there other tribes in Western Province that were settled there long before Lozis left present day South Africa. In Western Province one will find tribes like the Nkoya people who settled in the area around the 6th Century, making them the oldest settlers in Zambia together with their cousins the Tonga. Lozis are new comers to Western Province. Like someone said the Lozi chiefs sold Zambia in exchange for a uniform of a security guard in England that is why no Gov’t will EVER recognise that barosteland nonsense because it does not exist and it is based on tribalism against other tribes in Western Province. Lozi day dreamers!!

  44. #50 Like post #51 says there are other tribes in Western province other than Lozis so they can’t secede unless the have the consent of the other tribes in Western Province and as far as things stand the Nkoya people don’t support the baroste nonsense and this is also the position of the gov’t and the people of Zambia. If Lozis want to secede they should go back to South Africa, may that nonsense will be entertained that side NOT in Zambia. There is no way can body can allow such a thing were you sell other people’s land and then expect them to support you in promoting tribalism. Lozis are only found in some parts of Mongu and Limulunga and Senanga and Sesheke.

  45. Mwanamuchende, foolish Tonga chap, just go back to Southern Province!

  46. #24 you obviusly think like an amoeba or like a shrimp which carries its heart in its head. Do not pretend you do not know what i am alluding to Tribalist. You get a kick out of the suffering of others. SADIST.

  47. Cont’d You will find other tribes like the Nkoyas in Mongu, Sesheke, Kalabo, Shangombo, Kaoma, Lukulu, Mulobezi and other areas outside Western Province like Mumbwa, Kataba, Kasempa etc. The agreement which was signed in 1964 effective was the last nail on that baroseland nosense. The british gov’t reversed there recognition of barosteland when they signed the 1964 agreement and KK’s signature reserved all false agreements that were signed in 1898 so barosteland only existed on paper and did not and still does not reflect the reality on the ground that is why no Zambian gov’t has recognised it because there other tribes in Western Province who settled there long before Lozis arrived.

  48. The two community radio stations only play propaganda coming from the Lozi Chief, litunga while other tribes in Western province like the Nkoya people are hardly given the same air play because the Litunga is paranoid because they know that the lies they spread on the radio stations can be opposed. Now they are even oppressing their own people because they fear an uprising by the Lozis against their own chiefs. That was the same reason they banned Bemba music to be played on the radio stations because they realised that Lozis were begining to love the beautiful Bemba language which has reached all corners of the country in a rather short peroid of time.

  49. How did complaints about maladministration in Western province degenerate into Barotseland, Loziland, tribalists, secession, go back to South Africa etc. Are you Zambians so dull and moronic that you cannot tell a head from a tail. The officials so mentioned in the article are merely complaining about poor administration, corruption and lack of people centred development in the province. I thought Zambia was a democracy and citizens have a right to question the activities of those who are administering their affairs. It is indeed very difficult to have a reasonable or inttligent dicussion with a Zambian because for some reason he will always go off topic.

  50. Western province has been underdeveloped by all the three govts. It is a very rich province in terms of natural resources. I drove from Sesheke to Lusaka via Mongu, but was disappointed to see the poor infrastructure that exists in that province after many years after independence. Namibian govt was getting gravel from the Zambian side to build their nice and wide roads at a very cheap price. They left quarries which have become dangerous to our people. Not only that but also most of the roads are untarred. To make matters worse, the schools are built of mud-plastered bricks (midindo) and grass thatched roofs. We got stuck in sand on the main road to Senanga.

  51. You fellows are so naive 50, the little history i learnt in my secondary school tells me that their was the Kololo and the Aluyi , the Nkoyas , Makoma etc we know that the Kololo were later defeated by the original people , the term Lozi is a new term…its a mixture of Kololo and the other tribes they found. The establishment therefore was made by original and the kololo people, all these Nkoyas you are talking about were subject to the royal establishment.

If you think am lying why not go to google and search for yourself.why not prove me wrong by reading….

  52. 58 correct , thats why i said and pointed it out that their is need for the people to ba allowed to express themselves and not to be stopped by overzealous administrators.

  53. Timber has been taken at very cheap price to Namibia. If you compare Katima-Mulilo with Sesheke will be ashamed to see the dilapidated infrastucture on the Zambian side while the Namibian side is like you are in Europe. The Mukusi tree has been exploited to almost to extinction in western province. It reminds of Chipata and Mchicinji border. The Zambian side is like people the infrastucture is in a very bad state. For example, the road had ditches while on the Malawian side it is in good condition. What is wrong with our govt officials who fail to develop their own areas? Zambezi is rich with water, fish, rice cultivation, special grass for thatching to mention but a few.

  54. Chronology:
XIX Century – Kingdom of Lozi
1838 – Conquest by Kalolo (SeSotho from present-day Lesotho)
1864 – Lozi regained their independence
1890-1900 – Lewanika, Lozi Paramount Chief, signed treaties with British South Africa Company seeking protection. (This flag originated at this time)
1911 – Lozi Kingdom became officially a province of the Protectorate of Northern Rhodesia with considerable autonomy.
1960s – Paramount Chief (Likunga) – Sir Mwanamina III Lewanika negotiated accession of Barotseland to the new nation of Zambia and was assured by Dr. Kenneth Kaunda of the preservation of the Barotseland autonomy after Zambia’s independence
1964 – Shortly after its birth,

  55. 1964 – Shortly after its birth, Zambia start reneging on the Barotse Agreement causing growing oppostion to the inclusion of Barotseland into Zambia.
1999 – Barotse Patriotic Front leader, Imasiku Mutangelwa, openly supports rebellion of Lozi ethnic kinfolk against Namibian government in the Caprivi Strip insinuating desire to unite all Lozi (MaLozi) people in a separate state of Barotseland.
    Chris Kretowicz, 7 Apr 2001

  56. Lozi is a nation group and not a tribe. There are 24 ethnic groups that make up Barotseland. Some of these groups are kwamashi, Kwangwa, Humbe, Subiya, Totela, Luyi, Nyengo, mbunda, mbukushu, luyana etc. these lunguages are rarely spoken. Instead people speak Lozi as their common or national language.

  57. The problem with our Govt is in the way they priotise programs (that is if they have any).We have a leadership that only wants to appease the president and not the people who voted them into power. What sort of issues do their MPs bring into parliament or are they still praying?Namibia has a very good road network thanks to the Germans who colonised them.Govt is still debating on why they should have a dual carriageway between Lusaka and the Copperbelt. If anything we need a 3 lane Motorway especially now that there are more cars.We can have duals linking major towns/cities and country roads in the remote areas. The Govt can finance this using road tax and licencing.

  58. You really want to know how they sold the country for an Admiral’s suit? And how the Litunga became a King by default? Watch out i’ll explain shortly

  59. Ndife,My brother you amaze me,Lozi’s sold to the British land which was never and has never been theirs. They claim half of Zambia which was never their kingdom. If we the true Zambians were to give you Barotseland we can only cut you a small piece minus areas that have other tribes,am sure you will be more than happy to join your brothers in Namibia but like you saw some years ago Nambia unlike Zambia does not take kindly to such nonsense.Believe me or not tribes on the Copperbelt are Bemba related ba mwisho and they cannot accept to be in your kingdom!!

  60. Ndife,

That nonsense you are posting is the nonsense that some Lozi politicians want people who don’t know the real history of the Lozi to believe. The Lozis came into Zambia in the mid 1840s as the Kololo as they were known then. Other Kololos came earlier and they were given the name Luyi or Aluyi which means “Visitors” in the Nkoya language. When the Luyi were attacked by the other Kololos that came later on, the Luyis went to seek for refuge and protection among the Nkoya people of the Nkoya were known as great hunters and fighters. after 12 years living among the Nkoya, the group known as the Luyi collaborated with the Nkoyas to fight and defeat the Kololo.

  61. This is very interesing!!!! You Lozi’s think that in modern day Zambia/Africa you still think Barotseland can be established. Hey, constructing roads in western is quite expensive as you have to pay loyalties to your so called establishment even if it is a government project. The suffering in western has been caused by the Lozi’s themselves. It’s time you lozi’s grew up!!!!!!

  62. Mulenga i wont cease to amaze you more, its not true that the Barotse land is half the country of Zambia.I dont think thats what the original map of the Barotse land is, i believe the map issue is on the Kafue river and the current western province, that aside the provisions of the agreement have certain prevaliges which the Original system before indepence used to acquire from the british Govt those privaleges now are being used and abused by the republic. They were supposed to receive certain funds for development, every agreement has provision, i wont lie to u i havent gone through the provsions as for now. I could if i have time over lunch or after hours. stay blessed

  63. British Journalist why then would there be an Induna in Nkoya land if they defeated the Kololo? An Induna is a representative of the royal establishment showing authority of the establishment among the subjects. So how come in Nkoya land we still have a royal representative?

  64. #72, The map that is used includes western, northweatern, parts of copperbelt and southern province. It’s only now that you say that it is only western province. just do some reseaerrch over lunch and I’ll find out.

  65. cont’d from 70, When the Kololo leaders were defeated,a new chief was picked among the Luyi with the help of the Nkoyas. The first Lewanika was then chosen as the leader of the Luyi. After the Luyi integrated the Kololo subjects to form what today is known as the Lozi tribe or group. During this time and after the battle against the Kololo, the Nkoyas remained independant and were not affected in anyway by the Kololos or the Luyis. The luyis were forever grateful for the role that the Nkoya people played in helping to preserve the Luyi culture. In was only after the BSA company came in with their mining agreements that changed things and Luyis(lozis)grew bigheaded and started spreading lies.

  66. #72, The map that is used includes western, northweatern, parts of copperbelt and southern province. It’s only now that you say that it is only western province. just do some reseaerrch over lunch and you’ll find out.I was in the same class with a Lozi prince at secondary school, this is the data he gave me.

  67. #73 Those Indunas you are talking about came in Nkoyaland as tax collectors working for the BSA company. The came into Nkoyaland to collect hut tax on behalf of BSA company as it was the policy of the BSA company to force villagers to pay hut tax as a way of funding for the expansion of the BSA in Zambia. The ‘tax collectors’ started possing as chiefs in Nkoyaland just because they were related to the Lozi chief in Limulunga when in actual fact they were workers of the BSA comapny. Some Lozi indunas just overstayed in Nkoyaland and the Lozi chief started to trick the Government of Zambia into recognising them as chiefs when in fact they are not. In fact this matter is still in the high court

  68. Ndife,I do agree with you on somethings,Lozi’s are made up of many groups just like the Bembas in what we call UluBemba which also includes many tribes including Lunda of Mwata Kazembe.Kaunda really messed up on the Baroste issue he should have let them keep there kingdom other wise one day we shall have total collapse like Yugoslavia,Bembas will also demand to break away,Tongas had no kingdom,I don’t know what they’ll do!!But I believe Zambia is a loose Federation of tribal kingdoms, some big like Baroste,Lunda of Mwata Kazembe,Lubemba,Ngoni,Chewa and so on.But now that we are one Zambia one nation,we have to advance development for all the lovely people of this nation.

  69. Lozis are tribalist full stop. they have a complex and its only God that will remove it from them. u see! sometime back i said it that they are trabalists and you nearly killed me. talk of them not playing bemba songs on leseli community radio station that is crap. barosteland my foot. if u give them a chance to rule the country they will make lozi to be one and only official language. mubweza chitukuko mbuyo imwe

  70. No 53 no- sense in what you have said. Can you read again the story and see if it is mwanamuchende or mwanamuchebele; and who tells you that he is a foolish tonga chap who should go back to his homeland? Remember he is just popularly known as such and that does not mean that he is from southern. Please learn to read and analyse issues before you jump into wrong conclusions prof if you are really one.

  71. The Nkoyas have taken legal action against the Mwanawasa admininstration for attempting to recognise some individuals who live in Nkoyaland as Lozi chiefs just to win votes from Lozis in Western Province that is why we saw MMD winning most of the MP sits in Western Province because the Mwanawasa admin started to recognise some people as Lozi chiefs or indunas and in exchange the Lozi chiefs told their subjects to vote for MMD and Mwanawasa as President in the 2006 elections. One induna was recognised as a chief as late as 2003 but the Nkoyas have put an injunction against such a move because the people concerned came into Nkoyaland as tax collectors and nothing more. This is just one example

  72. You are at it again on tribal talk. Cant some bloggers be constructive for a change without being tribal?

  73. In other parts of Zambia all music is played. The point is that Lozi is not the only language in western province. people from all over Zambia are there working for either GRZ or NGO’s or even the private sector, so why discrimate.

  74. Unless you dont belong to any tribe, and for as long as each tribe is concious of the ‘survival of the fittest’ and the ‘natural selection’ philosophies ALL TRIBES ARE TRIBAL!!!!

  75. Why should there be development in western province when the province doesnt contribute anything to the national treasury. When these chaps breakaway the poverty will reach alarming levels To the extent that they will have to auction the security guard suit and the boat to buy food. Contribute something to the treasury and then you can cry for development.

  76. # 83 n 84 KKK yes they do. Bembas do not have a prob with other languages. i was in a bemba ushi land they played some tracks on radio lubuto done by Joe Chibangu n the other was by Amayenge…..

  77. Back to the article. In their tribalistic attitude, Lozis consider all Bembas as thieves. Can someone tell me the names of the provincial officials involved in the maladministration? Lozis should just wake up and discard the complex they are suffering from. I once visited Western Province and immediately it was known I was from the bembaland I had a tough time! One Zamboa one nation: nay, not in WP.

  78. They think they are above everyone else. Looking down on other people. They have names for ‘foreigners’: manyukunyuku. They alawys complain about what the world owes them but never what they can do for the world. Believe it or not, not only do they hate everyon else, they also HATE each other.. Have you ever come a cross a Lozi who has HELPED other lozis get to positions of influnec? I have not!

  79. I guess the subject of Nkoya , Baroste needs more time and effort. I will say, the morden generation Zambians do not have issues with Tribe . When i mean modern , i am saying 40 and below. Those above 40 were so inclined with thier tribes most of our parents married fellow tribesmates but now we have intermarried. I dont see Zambia in future fighting over land like Yugoslavia..as in parts being directed towards a cetain group of people. ..not withstanding what i have said the signing of the Barotse agreement may otherwise disturb Zambia if not carefully considered.

  80. kaya kambole your dead rite. this tribe has a problem imagine calling a fellow zambian a foriegner? hey reminds me of my friend in diaspora who was asked if he was bemba he got so annoyed and answered a foreigner that he is not and has never had any intentions of being one. hell no he would have said no i am not bemba am lozi and xplain the diference btwn them…..this tribe is…and niba kaso maningi

  81. It is very sad to note that the Western Province (WP) has been cited as the poorest in the country.

Something has to be done to re-dress this situation. The WP has got a lot of water in the name of Zambezi river and the land there is suitable for growing rice which can even feed the whole nation and probably Southern Africa. There are other things which we hear can take off in the province including mining.

Let those in power make sure that the WP contributes effectively to the Nation as a whole. “One Zambia, one Nation.”

  82. #70. British Journalist, lets comapare notes.

Most of the peoples who live in the region use Silozi, formerly known as Sikololo, as their lingua franca. Lozi, meanwhile, was just a name given to the Luyi peoples by Sotho invaders known as the Makololo who crossed the Zambezi (known previously as Lyambai) in the first half of the nineteenth century before their leaders were overthrown in 1864 leaving behind their language and much of their culture.

  83. #95

baRotse people are an assertive bunch and will stop at nothing to achieve self-determination until the republic renegotiates with them as citizens and not subjects of the state.

Precedence on this matter was set in the UK with the scotish pushing for their own parliament and minister(aka first minister).

  84. The scientific misphylosophy that governs the despensation and alotment of resources is traditionally left in the hands of the government through its specified departments and ministries defined as either planning or implementing wings.how the excution does it is where we miss the point.some people, education alone cant make them responsible.thats what brings about these fund misappropriations.its thus necessary that there is alway a good follow up on these monies after they are released to ensure that in the event of an identified anomally, the culprits are made to account.zambia needs to move as one in all areas so that we become a medium economy as desired by everyone.corruption is painful.

  85. #100 Kalumina Kaluka Kalumina A.K.A KKK do not take offence just work for the beterment of the Barotse Royal Establishment. you have a long to go….i was taught by a Lozi teacher at Maria Assumpta in Lstone and at once i thought livingstone belonged to the lozis coz of the hate he had for other tribes. if i had to find him ma mia i would remind him that Lstone is not in WP he was so tribal and it pains me upto now this happend in 1974 just imagine kambole

  86. #101

That will NEVER happen, you can not be ploting to have a separate state as if Western Province belongs to Lozis alone. The Lozis need the consent of other tribes like the Nkoya in Western Province but that will NEVER happen. The gov’t will NEVER support such nor will the people of Zambia. It is no wonder the Nkoya people are actively seeking their own Province called Kafue Province to separate themselves from self centered tribalist Lozis. #101 you call corruption assertiveness when Lozis have been corrupting anybody to achieve the baroste nonsense by all costs. The people of Zambia are not as foolish as you might want to think.

  87. All of you be careful of your tribal nonsence, none of your early ancestors shed blood for this country (prior to colonial rule) save the Ngoni who are truly the only warrior tribe in Zambia. Read your history, careful you will wake them up! And then you will be in real trouble!

  88. Non of you people talking about tribal Politics have a real Idea of how this Nation came to be. Read the history of Norteastern and Northwestern Rhodesia. You are better off not going there. I warn you!

  89. Check oot the facts. Whilst every other tribe were busy selling each other, the Ngonis were busy fighting the whiteman. Check the history of all Ngonis starting from from Kwa-Zulu, Mtenguleni, Mzimba, Ku Bulawayo, the same trend will be found. Don’t raise this tribal nonsence, you will leave to regret! I speak for every Ngoni and they bloody know it. Ungoni usileleni and if you care to know why, you will find it the hard way!

  90. #98 Most people in Western Zambia DON’T speak Silozi, this is just the impression that some lozi politicians have created to give the illussion that only Lozis live in Western Zambia when in actual fact their are other tribes that came into that area many centuries before any Kololo or Luyis arrived in the area. This is just one of the many schemes Lozis have come up with in Western Province as a way of trying to justify the useless and outdated barosteland idea. Thw figured out that they would not be able to secede from Zambia if the rest of Zambia knows that there are other tribes in Western Zambia other than Lozis so that have gone about spreading lies and giving false impressions.

  91. Some time back, Lozis used to say that the Nkoya people are also Lozi. However, when this lie was exposed and it was proved beyond any reason doubt that in fact Lozis and Nkoya are two different ethnic groups, this lie has since stopped because Lozis used to claim that they came from the Luba – Lunda empires but there are no traces of such claims. However, with the Nkoya, it can be proved that they came from the Luba – Lunda empires and are even considered to be one of the oldest breakaways of the Luba empire who entered Zambia from the North Western / Western area instead of the Luapula/ Northern areas were most Lubas entered present day Zambia from.

  92. Cont’d from 109

This is why the Nkoya language and cultural practices are very similar to the Lunda and Kaondes of North Western Province but also some dialects of the Nkoya language are also very similar to Ila/ Tonga groups because of intemarriages between the groups in Southern and South Western Zambia. Traces of Luba influence are also very much visible among the Nkoya, the Royal Ntomboke Dance perfomed by Nkoya chiefs is just one example. I’m doing a documentary on the Nkoya language and cultures and it is very intesting what kind of information and knowledge is out there that many Zambians don’t know about. Zambia is blessed with rich history and culture.

  93. The BSE TREATY was an agreement between the natives occupying the area standing to the Northwest of the then Rhodesia and BSA. The cardinal question is why the treaty? The Ndebeles had been carrying out incursions into that area. Proctection against the Ndebele raids was the main motivation for these people while BSA eyes were on Exploration/mining.

  94. The Tswana’s had managed to secure relief from the Ndebele incursions by securing Protectorship from the British Government. Upon the knowledge that their brothers were suffering the same fate by the babarious Ndebele, they saw it fit to advise their brothers to seek similar Protection.

  95. The British government was not willing to offer this Protection but in came BSA a British company whose main interest was exploration and business who took advantage and brokered this deal.

  96. Baroste in the strictest sence did not own the land in question for we do not hear of any wars fought to conquer that land, nor do we have any other history contrary to that which is recorded.

  97. In other words, they can’t hide behind the strongman (BSA) and claim land which they conquered or fought for.

  98. Sorry-In other words, they can’t hide behind the strongman (BSA) and claim land which they never conquered or fought for.

  99. But was the Tonga Land Illa Land or any land demacations in Zambia actually fought for in the real sense. Actually you already alluded to the fact that the kololo fought with the Local tribes prevailed and inforced their language thats why its similar to Sotho, Swana and the other languages in Namibia. I do agree that later this rulership was overthrown but we also know in History that Lewanika got British Protection just like the baswanas so , from what basis was the map drawn for the british to offer him this protection. Which bounderies was the protection covering? why then did kaunda sign a document with Lewanika? please answer my questions?

  100. #12, the word ugly is found in all languages. That speaks for itself.

As to the Admiral’s uniform, the Litunga gets to wear it once a year. You can’t say the same for the pant/trousers/shirt that you get to wear 24/7, and incidentally from the same source, and yet post a ‘hate speech’ about a fellow Zambian! How mentally unbalanced can one be.

As for ‘British Journalist’, why not just come clean and agitate for a Kafue Province. But don’t expect that only Nkoya’s will be in it. Kaondes, Luvales and many others also have a stake in that part of the country just like they do in the entire Western Province.

  101. #118 I’m not here to agitate for the creation of Kafue Province, this is the job for Nkoyas and others who support such progressive ideas meant to map out a win-win solution for all. I’m just giving a view that is less discussed when talking about Western Province. #117. If you want to know what transpired during that period in much of Western/ North Western and Southern Zambia from the view of the Nkoya people who were there before the Kololo or the Luyi arrived in the area, I suggest you read a Nkoya historical manuscript called “Likota Lya Ba Nkoya” (A book about the Nkoya). It will tell you about the ‘tribal’ wars, cultural traits, relations that took place around that region, google it.

  102. In 1902, Lozi king Lewanika of Barotseland attended the coronation of British monarch, Edward VII. He returned from his diplomatic visit with a royal coach, scarlet coats for his servants, and the uniform of a full-dress admiral. This British admiral’s uniform has since become a national symbol of Barotseland, worn on ceremonial occasions by each of the famed king’s successors. Each appearance of the midnight blue wool and gold brocade serves as a tribute to both visionary king Lewanika and his incorporative strategies. Not only did this savvy leader negotiate to establish Barotseland as a protectorate, and not a colony, he implemented corporeal fashions for kings and subjects that have rema

  103. remained mainstays of a Lozi image to this day. Lewanika made himself a body politic, the symbol of a nation worthy of both international consideration and local loyalty. He dressed with intent and carried himself with purpose. In turn, his loyal followers expressed their deep regard in the way that they carried themselves. Lewanika insisted that a strict code of etiquette be followed in his court. From bent knees to clapping hands, in Barotseland comportment is an art form.

This paper will look to Lozi visual strategies in which the body is both the surface upon which style is designed and the medium of expressing intricate cultural mores. Since the days of Lewanika, what is worn and

  104. the manner in which it is worn or regarded has made visible Lozi respect for the past and designs for the present and future. “More than a Man of Style” will trace the impact of Lewanika’s sense of style on the fashions of kings and aesthetics of body language as expressed during key moments for one hundred years of Lozi cultural dynamics.

  105. #117.King Lewanika pass on in 1916. And the Barotseland Agreement was signed by his son Sir Mwanawina in 1964.

  106. Lewanika was a sellout that is why he was the only African to be invited for the coronation. He sold what is today known as the copperbelt by claiming that it was his. As someone has already pointed out, the BSA was busy using people like Lewanika to sign ‘agreements’ that either he or his subjects could understand or even read. Infact this is the same Lewanika who ran away from the Kololo and was taken in by the Nkoya people when his people and throne was taken by the Kololo. They looked after him and even trained him to be a hunter. Had it not been for the help of Nkoya warriors, Lewanika would not have reclaimed his throne and Lozis would have remained captives of the Kololo.

  107. The use of Nkoya music at the Kuomboka ceremony up to this day is a constant reminder of the role that Nkoyas played in liberating Lozis against the Kololo. However, after signing false deals with the BSA company, Lewanika forgot about all the help he got from the Nkoya people for 21 years and instead went on a campaign of lies and false claims which his offspring have carried on to this day as it can even be seen by the glamorised history that STALIN is trying to promote. KK and the British gov’t did us Zambians a favor by distancing themselves by deals which where later confirmed as having been based on lies and false claims that is why no right thinking Zambian can ever support lies.

  108. Privatisation was started by Lewanika and the British used to call him a King only because he was one of the only African traditional leaders who let himself to be used as an agent of colonialism in Zambia. KK will always be remembered by undoing all the wrongs that Lewanika and group did. Most Zambians think Chiluba started privatisation but when you look at history, the source of all this was Lewanika himself. He was so scared of getting overthrown by the Ndebeles, he called the British gov’t to protect him and his people because he feared that he would have to ran again just like he did when he was younger when he ran away from the Kololo. He sold other people’s lands just to save himself

  109. i did some background checks:
    – Nkoyas do not regard themselves as Lozis, that’s why British Journalist is so loud on this thread
    – The term ‘Lozi’ only came into existence in 1936 during the reign of Litunga Litia Yeta III
    – It describes all tribal groupings in Western Province, except Nkoyas
    – The term ‘Luyi’ was used by the Nkoyas to describe the ‘visiting’ Lozis
    – The language ‘Lozi’ draws on Sotho and Siluyana
    – Majority of Lozi names are from the pre-Kololo era confirming they are not from the South
    – Lozi cessation is not the topic of discussion; the issue is about freedom of expression!

  110. #137 You are a liar.

1.Lozi is the German mispronouciation of Rotse. Lozi was not brought into being by Litiya in 1936!

    2. Luyi are the plain Lozi’s. Those on the higher ground were known as Luyana.

3.What are these majority Lozi names that are pre-kololo?

    4. I am Nkoya but I dont speak the language. I regard myself as Lozi and I am proud of it.

  111. #137 I like that. You have a good peice of brain.Back to the topic yes we need to have freedom of expression but even that has limitations as what we say must not only be right but also unoffensive or deemed not to be so

  112. It is really ironic that all these stupid posts just go to confirm what the officials in Western province are complaining about! They dont have the right to have or express an opinion before REAL ZAMBIANS come out and demean their ethnicity and region. I cannot understand the hate that is being expressed on this blog. Honestly the officials in Western province have merely complained about corruption, lack of transperancy and accountability in the manner they are administered. There is nothing tribalistic about this. You people are so full of hate. No wonder some Lozi’s want their own separate state.

  113. Mbulawa go ahead and agitate for an independent state and starve to death. Unless you will be cooking the sand.

  114. #141 You are right. One of the officials a Mr Mulele is quoted as saying that government officials in western province are threatening people who go on Community radio stations to talk about development issues and mismanagent of public funds.

I also honestly dont see how the above complaint can be misconstrued as Lozi tribalism. It is beyond me. Should we blame this on the pathetic standards of education in Zambia because most of the *****s on this blog are not addressing the gist of the matter. It seems that every time you mention Lozi the *****s come out of the wood work and start parroting their prejudices.

  115. #142.Mbulawa is certainly not agitating for lozi independence. Go back to school and improve your English comprehension.

  116. We are not talking about semantics here but something to do with a province which doesnt contribute anything to the treasury. Should we continue subsidising it or allow them to go there own way.

  117. Viva Barotseland,Viva HH,Viva Godwin Mbikusita Lewanika,Viva Linyandi,Viva Barotseland agreement,Viva sechaba saluna..

  118. Let us rid ourselves of Western province, they have been feeding on us for too long.If I were President of Zambia I would give them their province, strictly where only Lozis are found then we wouldn’t have these tribalists in my country Zambia. We drove the British out of this country through Cha Cha Cha,while you and your King were busy dining with the enemy, receiving some stupid suit.

  119. [139] I will rephrase my post in [137]. From the little background history check I came across, The Litunga Litia Yeta III formally recognised the term ‘Lozi’ in 1936. That’s what I mean by it coming into existence. I will not sink so low as you have and label other bloggers liars.

I however still maintain that at no time did those Lozi elders quoted agitate for the cessation of Western Pronvince from the rest of Zambia. So all this talk is out of topic.

  120. Yaku ba #147. Exactly were are you now dodging the Border and Immigration Agency? Continue sweeping the streets and cleaning toilets in Newcastle you monkey poacher!

  121. #147
Coronation of English Sovereigns – Edward II, The Martyr’ … Pavilion Aldershot’, ‘Coronation Guest – King Lewanika of Barotseland’ Chitimukulu was busy defacating in the bush!.

  122. #139

There is no Nkoya that regards him or herself as Lozi. That is like a Tonga person saying, ‘I’m Tonga but I don’t speak the langauge so I regard myself as Bemba’, that can not happen.

It seems some Lozis have realised that barosteland can not happen without Nkoya support so they now want to mislead people into thinking that Nkoyas buy into the Baroste hype, but it will NEVER happen. Nkoyas have been against the Baroste nonsense from day one (1864) and it is very unlikely that such a position will ever change in this life time.

  123. The issue of freedom of expression is something that is not there in Western Province. The ‘Lozi royal family’ are fully aware that there is a group of Lozis who want to see an end to the lozi royal family cartel. A series of events have taken place which have shown that the are making headway in overthrowing the Lozi Senior Chief and ending the influence of the so called lozi royal family in western province. Lozis themselves are now denied the right to gather because the royal family think they are ploting to do away with them and pledge full loyalty to the Zambian gov’t. A few months ago, part Lewanika general hospital was reduced to ashes by ‘unknown’ people.

  124. Cont’d from #157
A few months before that, another group was distributing flyers telling fellow lozis not to attend the Kuomboka ceremony as a result, there was a very low turn out this year. A few months before that, the daughter of the Lozi senior chief almost committed suicide by jumping into the Zambezi river. When asked why she did it, she said the father was mistreating her and some people were molesting her with the ‘royal family’. Today, the lozi senior chief is not free among his own people. He ‘rules’ his people from his farm in Central Province. When he is in western province, he moves with state security to protect him against his own subjects.

  125. The man who offered him state security, President Mwanawasa is not expected to come back as head of state, so should Zambia change her leadership, the Lozi chief will not be offered the security which is not accorded to other traditional leaders. This will leave him exposed and will most likely be removed and the so called lozi royal family will be no more. The motivation behind the rebel Lozis seems to be coming from the fact that diamonds have been discovered in an area known as the Mulonga plains with traces of oil also. This has lead to some tribes that make up the Lozi group to distance themselves from the Loziness idea so that they keep the diamond proccedings to themselves.. Continued

  126. Others allege that there is too much corruption in the way land is allocated in some parts of western province which are under the Lozi chief. Some Lozis don’t like the idea of applying for land to the ‘royal establishment’ instead of the Zambian gov’t and they say that there is a lot of corruption in the way things are done within the royal establishment. Some Lozis don’t like the idea of creating some fictious barosteland because there are other tribes in western province other than Lozis. The also say that the baroste issue is history and it is only the so called royal family that keep pushing for the outdated idea. The say their relationship with other Zambians has been difficult.

  127. Okay guys to tell you the truth… I was abandoned by my Lozi father. And I have never forgiven the bastard. I will fight every Lozi bastard to my grave. Mwanya abaloshi!

  128. Abashi Barotseland! Abashi Lewanika! Abashi Litunga! Abashi stinking Lozis!

VIVA NKOYA, VIVA MWEENE KAHARE! Nkoyaland shall be liberated from foreigners!

  129. #161
In the first place i have to simparthise with you for having had no father.its on such grounds that even your language choice is totally unzambian.research well why your dad neglected you.its either your mother was not honest in her day today social duties.promiscuity/adultery and irresponsibility are some of the reasons why men neglect women.a real man will never neglect a woman who meets all the supportive instruments required at all costs.even so my brother/sister dont transfer your frustrations onto others because we also have our own problems we are striving to solve.cheer up and be yourself again.

  130. Kapiji and Kina,You are so proud of your useless king who helped bring Zambians under colonial rule by selling land that was never and will never be Lozi land. You have such an inferiority complex, you think being hoodwinked by the Brotish is clever. We will never allow you to breakaway. We will fight you until you submit and know never to sell other peoples land to white people. We had to fight for yours and our freedom to get rid of the British who treated even your foolish king without respect.Your colonial masters will never help you with this Baroste nonsense. And by the way I am a British Zambian!!

  131. These people have been oppressed and they want to transfer their frustration to other tribes. They will pursue someone until they kill, their feet are swifter than the carmel in the sand and they eat reptiles, crocodiles etc. They will backbite someone in their presence and want to convert other tribes into loziship. How selfish. Mapenzi.

  132. Mulenga you are sick. I am not Lozi. I am Kaonde. You have a big problem coz it seems anyone who criticises you is Lozi. What did they do to you? Look at the topic that has brought this tribal mayhem. It has nothing to do with seccesation or independence of Barotseland. It is about concerned citizens in western province complaining about oversensitivity by administrators to critical discussion of development issues over the airwaves and rampant corruption by admninstrators as illustrated in the Auditor General’s Report. It seems that the problem with your kind is that anybody who talks about corruption is implicitly referring to you!Grow up!

  133. #38 you are right, why not comment on the state of the president. We have no president now and yet we concentrate on minor issues of tribalism.

  134. Mulenga,Newcastle England you a British Zambian?,Zambian law does not allow Dual citizenship sucka!.What did you do marry those fat English underclass girls that Specialize in nixxxgers ?.we will fight you until you submit? YOU ARE TALKING THROUGH YOUR ASS MATE!.

  135. Well said Kapiji#167. It reminds me of Jimmy Cliff’s “who feels it knows it”. Talk of corruption and some people think you are refering to their ethnic group. Guilty feelings eh?

  136. #171 Go and learn how to spell and write proper gramma before you make any comments.

No one is perfect in this world, don’t try to act like criminals only come from one part of the country. Anybody is a potential criminal including yourself. Let us not be tribal for no reason. Some of you are just born and brainwashed into being tribal even when it is not neccessary.

  137. The Lozi royal family is full of BS. When the british were offering scholarships to study in europe, they only gave them to their family members and forgot about other Lozis as well. I would be a very happy person the day this groups of criminals is no more,we don’t need them. The reason we have too much corruption in western province is because of them. Where is the anti corruption commission..ohh hold on Akashambatwa Lewanika is one of the commissioners so no investigations from the ACC. ACC is just there to target political opponents, another useless group of bootlickers.

  138. #169 KINA,I feel sorry for you,you are so backwards thats why you advocate for a lost cause,Baroste Land nonsense!Whats so special about Western province? You guys will never amount to anything in Zambia because you like division. If you considered yourselves Zambian then maybe we the true Zambians can allow one of you to rule this country. But looking at all the tribalism you and your brothers post on this blogg,am sorry none of you will ever rule Zambia. We won’t even give you your Baroste Land,so go hang!Your tribe didn’t even fight for independence, they brought this country under colonialism. To hell with the Litunga,He sold my land to the British, foolish King!!

  139. Mulenga Newcastle. You’re quite something. With one breath you label King Lewanika a sellout who acceded to British colonialism. A few lines later, with the same un-brushed mouth, you clamour for the same British label. Where is the consistence? Typical of guys from your kraal. Think with their mouth and not their brains. Seriously, what contribution does chitemene contribute to the national economy? Kaunda gave you guys draught animals you slaughtered them, saying ‘munani’. My bro, Zambeef abbattoir in Mongu is not there to slaughter monkeys, but cattle from that province. Zambeef is one of Zambia’s foremost co. And you ask about contribution to the national economy?

  140. #175 Ndate Mwanana,So we eat monkeys! You guys eat Monitor Lizards,Opani but you don’t see us pushing the Lizards down your throught everytime we run out of ideas. There has never been famine in the north.all the famine comes to your area and GRZ starts giving you free maize. We are self sufficient in food,we eat many things thats why we don’t starve like you guys down there.

  141. #174 Mulenga Newcastle. Zambia’s first two presidents came from your lot. Look where Zambia is today. Among the ten poorest LDCs. Contrast that with the position at independence in 1964. Zambia was only second to RSA. That surely says a lot. Then came in the ‘cabbage’, a minority presido from a minority tribe (Lenje). for the first time in decades inflation reached single digits. That tells anyone who uses his brain, rather than just his mouth something. Put capable people to lead, whether from a minority tribe or not. The tribal thing you’re hooked on to won’t take you anywhere. Lozis are just as capable as anyone. Infact history will tell you that 85 of 100 graduates at indep. were Lozis.

  142. #172 Thought you were clever enough to realize that I meant Steal as opposed to self? Or do you need to be spoon fed?.

  143. #176 Mulenga Newcastle. Let’s just say that you have the Swahilis on the other side of the border to thank. Smuggling in food is not exactly being productive. Northern Zambia is potentially the most productive part of Zambia. The soils are good. The rainfall is superb. It doesn’t experience floods. But with the exception of the border areas (Mambwe and Namwanga domains) the area is underutilsed. Agricultural oriented southerners who have moved there are the ones producing albeit under unwelcome sentiments traited with tribal connotations from you lot. Nothing wrong in eating monkeys nor hopani as long as it is your food. The Chinese can give you lessons in that. Be proud of your food me Bro!

  144. #182 Ndate Mwanana,From your writing I can tell you are a good man and yor last posting made me laugh, the Swahili part.At least we both agree that food is food, monkey, hopani its all good,Nigerians eat snails and the French eat frogs.Yes the last 2 Presidents came from the North although not exactly Bemba, but they worked hand in hand with Southerners and Westerners,Chona,Musokotwane,Mudenda,Mwaanga,Masheke,Winas, the list is endless, under one Zambia one Nation. We should learn from them.Under Kaunda,Southerners and westerners run most of the parastatals and we run the unions, surely we are not to blame, the fall in copper prices and liberation wars in the region also contributed.

  145. It is sad to hear that public funds are being mismanaged in W.P. How can the province develop while the people in the administration are corrupt. Please deal with those thieves.

  147. I believe it was the late Gladys Mutukwa who once said , “Having very little knowledge is damaging. ” The is a very strong possibility most of the people are commenting on issues they think they know when in actual fact are merely parroting sentiments and arguments they have over heard on a minibus in the local bar. If you are saying things you do not know much about or are not even true then you hide behind a pseudonym/alias and what not.

    ANNEX TO THIS AGREEMENT
    1. The Litunga and National Council of Barotseland have always worked in close co-operation with the Central Government over land matters in the past have agreed that the Central government should use land required for public purposes, and have adopted the same procedures as apply to leases and rights of occupancy in the Reserves and Trust Land areas, where applicable. At the same time, the administration of land rights in Barotseland under customary law and practice has been under the control of the Litunga and National Council in much the same way as customary land rights are dealt with in the Reserves and Trust Land areas.
    2. In these circumstances it is agreed that the Litunga should continue to have the greatest measure of responsibility for administering land matters in Barotseland. It is however, necessary to examine the position of land matters in Barotseland against the background of the Northern Rhodesia Government‘s overall responsibility for the territory.
    3. The Barotse memorandum has indicated that Barotseland should become an integral part of Northern Rhodesia. In these circumstances the Northern Rhodesia Government will assume certain responsibilities and to carry these out they will have to have certain powers. so far as land is concerned, apart from confirmation of wide powers the Litunga over customary matters ,the position is as follows:-
    (1) The Northern Rhodesia Government does not wish to derogate from any of the powers exercised by the Litunga and Council in respect of land matters under customary law and practice.
    (2) The Northern Rhodesia Government would like to ensure that the provision of public services and the responsibility of economic development in Barotseland are not hampered by special formalities.
    (3) The Northern Rhodesia Government recognises and agrees that full consultation should take place with the Litunga and Council before any land in Barotseland is used for public purposes or in the general interests of economic development.
    (4) The position regarding land in Barotseland in an independent Northern Rhodesia should ,therefore, be as follows:-
    (a) There should be the same system for land administration for the whole of Northern Rhodesia including Barotseland, that is, the Government Lands Department should be responsible for professional advice and services with regard to land alienation in all parts of Northern Rhodesia and that the same form of document should be used for grants of land (i) for Government purposes and (ii) for non-Government and non-customary purposes. The necessary preparation of the title documents should be done by the Government Lands Department.
    (b) The Litunga and National Council of Barotseland will be charged with the responsibility for administering Barotse customary land law within Barotseland.

The NCC and The Barotseland Question

    Dear Editor,
Kindly allow me to express my views on a critical subject to the very survival of the entity called zambia.

I yearn for a time to come when Barotses every where will realise and agree that their destiny in all matters economic, political and general sense of being are to a great extent inextricably tied to The Barotseland Agreement 1964. This is the document that facilitated the ‘Marriage of Inconvenience’ between Northern Rhodesia and Barotseland to form Zambia. It is thus the only reason or basis for MaLozi to be called Zambians . As every international lawyer worth his gown knows, this is a legally binding international agreement that you will find at the International Court of Justice at The Hague in the Netherlands. This document my friends is not illegal or seditious to possess. I would like to state that who ever wants a copy can simply e-mail me and i will most gracious avail it to them. Most zambians comment on this agreement like they do on most other issues from points of utterly shocking and embarrassing ignorance. Most people have inherited a form passed on hatred and dislike for Lozis and have resorted to calling them selfish without taking time to understand who we are as a people and a Nation. All this stems from the misinformation machinery oiled by the successive Zambian government politicians. This is truly food for thought for those organisations involved in Conflict Prevention or Resolution depending on which one ought to come first.

If The Agreement is abrogated like it has, Barotse proponents for its restoration are pursued, murdered in hotel rooms or mysteriously become rich, or The agreement is cunningly implemented and meticulously left out in explicit terms from constitution formulation processes, Barotses technically are non zambians on this basis. Its no wonder a lot of us do not feel, behave and think like zambians no matter how hard we try. It is indeed sad to note that, either by design or by accident zambians have not been told that without this document, zambia as you know it would not have been born especially with its current borders. What must be realised is that, as Barotseland, we have a National Anthem, a National Flag and a National Dress code what more claims to nationhood can one need. How long are you going to ignore it? The consequences of this strategy are too dire to even begin to imagine .

It was a near shocker to see on the zambian television that a number of utility vehicles are now being donated to departments in Barotseland. Do not get me wrong, any well-meant and respectful donations are appreciated but not what I see happening. People should understand these donations in context. Why are they happening now? Do you know that the NCC is sitting to come up with a constitution and Barotseland has made countless submissions to various constitution review commissions on the Barotse Question. Most have ended up being impounded or labelled as being seditious material. For as long as the Barotseland Question is not conclusively attended to, it will always impose its haunting presence like the proverbial sword of Damocles and remember, ‘No regime can press over the lid of a hot boiling pot forever.’ We have made our demands and no amount of donations will blind Barotses you know us better than that. They have gone further to engage some ‘Tick-nocrats’ to even start literally campaigning on tours to Barotseland and in television documentaries that Barotseland needs development and the land there should be made available for development. We do not need any outsider to tell us we need development. I would like to make a profound statement here, “We are going to develop Barotseland but NEVER the Zambian way!” What we have been raised to understand is Land is power without it life has no worth. We are very wealthy right now because rural Barotselanders will be setting the terms for investing on their Land. When Barotse Think Tanks finalise their assignment on charting the Barotse National Development Plan (BNDP) then we will see the way to develop a nation.

Its is indeed gratifying to note that thanks to The Barotseland Agreement every Barotse, yes, even all those in the Diaspora and who ever has Barotse Blood coursing through their veins, where ever you may be, which ever corner of the globe you maybe applying yourself you have a legitimate claim to your ancestral piece of land in Barotseland, with your name tied to it, waiting for you to develop it as you please! As zambians sale off and give away their large stretches of land to so called investors for 25 or 99 years, ours is, thank God (Nyambe and Nasilele) will be safe for a long time to come. Who ever thought those beautiful and majestically imposing hills/mountains you appreciate when coming into Lusaka from the south would ever be privately owned and fenced off? Who would have ever imagined that Rural Zambians now could even be shot at for trespassing in a foreign owned land within the land of their birth? The Zimbabwe land crisis situation will never happen in Barotseland. We will forever applaud the wisdom of our fore fathers. The Litunga is the custodian of our land on behalf of the Barotse people and this will never ever change.

Lets me put this in a painfully crude way. You may starve us to death in Barotseland because of our current poverty levels but a least our children’s children are, for millennia to come, assured of having a portion of land to be buried on. Even with the existing subtle form of economic blockade imposed on Barotseland, what you must know and live with is that we shall never yield to corporate and institutionalised Land pillage and thuggery.

These matters are cardinal before we can even begin to debate ‘Economic development’ as this occurs on the LAND!

  148. BAROTSELAND, we have a National Flag,National Anthem and a National Dress Code.We are not special people, better than any other. We are who we are and it will never change. Lets share and celebrate our differences we hold our ceremony the way we do, others drink goat blood as they walk around clad in animal skins smeared in ash, that is what defines them as a people. The British did not teach us order, etiquette and organised society they found them. To the best of my knowledge we never threw stones.Of course i stand to be corrected. You just can not change history no matter how hard you want to try.

I must commend everyone active on this message board. The quality of some of the writing is quite sperb one i never thought even existed in this part of Afrika. To Stalin i say your writing is exceptional.I would like you to give a few pointers but of course it may have a lot to do with ones early instruction. I am not exactly sure just to what extent the negativity and questionable taste and choice of languege would do yo ones intellectual well being.

To everyone, i submit, that since you all seem to have unanimously agreed to carrry on with this obviously deemed eriching debates on futile politics, albeit deraining to the spirit. Is it possible we begin another parallel debate where we can use our wit to provide practical solutions to challenges we face.To be exciting i would encourage witty vulgarities so that we keep every one glued especially those who seem hooked to the profane!!!
