Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani has warned that police officers found receiving bribes from the infamous Jerabos on the Copperbelt will be arrested.

Mrs. Libongani was reacting to newspaper reports that some Copperbelt police officers have vowed to continue taking bribes from Jerabos due to low salaries.

In a brief statement this afternoon, Mrs. Libongani revealed that investigations have been instituted to confirm these allegations.

“We would like to assure you that the issue will be thoroughly investigated and any of our officers who will be found guilty of receiving bribes shall be arrested,” she said.

“Our appeal to members of the public who might have information of such earring officers is that they report these officers to us and other relevant law enforcement agencies.”

She said as law enforcers, the police shall not hesitate to bring to book such indiscipline officers who not only fail to follow the good laid down communication procedure in place for airing grievances but also engage themselves in illegal practices.

  1. Madam Libongani, you have the info already and you know who the culprits are. So just move in and arrest them so that you can lead by example.

  2. Indeed something must be done about these cops in Cb.I met one who even boasted of having had bought both his and wife’s personal cars using Jerabo money.High time these chaps were put in the right place.

  3. They Identified themselves when they stormed the post offices, so go get these crininals without delay. They are not worthy the uniform they wear.

  4. My sister I will really support you if you do the right thing this time. The post has evidence of cops who went there to boast about their corruotion wirh jerabos.

  5. Madam IG dont fool us.You know these people very well and may be you have even benefited one time or another.Your men and women in uniform can now drive cars and build houses without much ado.The police are gone beyond redemption.Only heavens knows.

  6. Kitwe has always harbored criminals. All the illegal Senegalese and Malians dealing in illegal gem stone reside in Kitwe openly. Kitwe thrives on Shady businesses.

  7. You cops in zed more on the copperbelt crime is all over busy say rubbish arrest them you know them who are the stupid friends are so pathetic and very useless in kitwe you can enjoy urself till theses same chaps will come and destroy everything police what only when you make a crime and lastly transfers thus cops it can be a good ideal

  8. This lady cop is suspect. Malama would have already fired salvos already? Investigation for what after cops openly parade themselves to reporters. You are let down to the WOMEN’S RIGHTS & OPPORTUNITIES. Try and do even better than Malama did! Shaa! I concur with @11 ZED becoz only a compromised CEO would behave the way you have done.

  9. There is something fishy going on pa ZED ka? How is it possible for cops to openly say they will not stop taking bribes and they are not immediately arrested? Are we missing something here?

  10. In Kaunda’s days police officers and magistrates were not allowed to stay in one place for more than two years to ensure that they do not get compromised by the fact that they get acquainted with a lot of people who this case include the Jerabos. Another example is when the Late Nguni was in Lusaka he kept on changing the flying squad and that how they managed to bring down crime in Lusaka. Before that police would inform suspects which areas they would be patrolling.

  11. I was born in CopperBelt and my unckle was a miner at chambishi mine, but i am warrowing in poverty, i even dont know how cobalt looks like, we dont know who are beneficialies of our mineral THE SENEGARIES are driving expensive viecles out of the minerals, THE GERABOLS SAY ITS MINE and MINE means MINE but for us its NOT OURS. Am sure Mama Libongani cant fight this battle DR MALAMA tried But not to the end.

  12. madam libongani how abt the use of private motors vehicles by police officers {traffic police} to ambush for would be offenders please do somethinng have a look at kafue bridge mostly just after 18hrs.

  13. Imwe ba Stella Libongani, months back I told you about several police officers at Wusakile Police Camp through your Public Relations Officer. And I will tell you once again. One of them is detective Inspector Kabudula, Chief Inspector Phiri who was at Riverside Police, and almost every traffic officer at Wusakile and most of the anti-robbery squard teams staying in Wusakile Police camp. What more do you need?

  14. To agree with others, Dr Martin Malama understood the gravity of this situation, and that’s why most of these criminals were gunned down under him. You have an anti-robbery squard that would rather kill a kid in mulenga compound than go after the big boys in riverside, parklands, garneton. You know them madam libongani. If you don’t have the gutts, take Dr Solomon Jere their and see how he will deal with them criminals. They have been kidnapping 15 – 16 year old school going children and making them wives and yet you cant do nothing about it. Send Dr Jere their who is more qualified to deal with these issues. You have even a mobile and rapid response unit at kamfinsa that you are not utilising effectively. Get serious.

  15. Joke of the week she has been getting  money from those boys she worked and lived with them the husband is a jerobo

  16. Any thing goes with PF government. It appears as if the government has taken leave of absence. This is further effects of deception on which Mr Sata and his PF duped Zambians that there will be more money in their pockets once in power. Police officers were being paraded and told by Sata that he will pay them more money, better housing, uniforms and transport once in power. His failure to honour these promises has created courage and publicly tell government that they will engage in bribes which Sata dupes the public that he fights corruption. If police can boldly say that what’s more in higher offices and state house? We warned you Sata can never fight corruption as has been a catalist in it, his past record exist.

    • Naimwe ba complexity, if Sata could fire his own personal secretary, what do you think he will do to the criminal police officers abating crime? We need to stand even for once for a good cause because these criminal police officers who are remnants from the MMD corrupt rule, will not change in a jiffy as we would like to see. Before you look into the failures of others my brother, look into yours. Bitterness usually emanates from one’s past experience. There’s no way Micheal Sata can be wrong 100% and if he’s, there is no way God would have granted and allowed him to rule over such a diverse country. Reflection on oneself helps most of the time to see the world as it’s, and not what it ought to be. You have my blessings brother.

    • Very childish rantings. You did not even vote for Sata. Us who voted for him have seen change. Medical workers salaries hiked, chiefs in 400% salary increase, foreigners now respecting Zambians etc. Just continue being bitter and frustrated man.

    • @Truth Hates you forgot to mention that Micheal Sata(n) increased his salary by 57% for doing nothing. You voted wisely,my friend.

  17. Report to us? My foot!! How do I pass such info to the suspects? Who are us madam IG?
Come up with a better plan so that ordinary citizens can help you rout out the pathetic elements in the police.
I hope you are not expecting citizens to walk into police stations and share their vital info with the same corrupt elements they are reporting about.

  18. Pa Zambia naimwe. Nama suspect nabeshiba . Just making a political statement. Epofwe nabantu bapa zed baleshiba ifilechitika pa states. Chipuba sana inspector uyu! You think you are talking to kids.  Basakala bonse . Only time will tell

  19. Extend the same investigations to Ndola cops. A number of senior officers are on jerabos’ payroll. Some of their houses are being constructed by the same jerabos in mitengo. Even some of the renowned business men of the Indian origin who seem to be doing very fine and buying/erecting powerfull buildings all over the town centre work hand in hand with the cops in all sorts of illegal dealings. It’s not difficult to isolate those good for nothing highly corrupt cops.

  20. the problem in zambia is that we like to look at the results rather than the cause. i am a cop and i can tell you that i am not happy with my salary especially under the PF becoz they sung songs of how poorly dressed officers and low salaries, everyday during their rallies. even after just a few days of th PF govt. it was announced that salaries for all defence and security would be harmonised but yet we are still waiting. this is not fair, police officers do a lot of work in zambia if u do not believe me, suspend them for a minute and u will see. so much as i dont agree with the method the officers want to use but what they ar:d

  21. saying is true. especially junior officers, why do u want to simply use them and not look after them? so the problem here is not even IG or the officers, but those with the responsibility to look at what the officers are complaining about. i want to tell u that police officers should not be taken for granted becoz the harm they can cause can be serious when they mean to. so zambians simply hear them and do what u have to, simple and period.

  22. She can not arrest them for fear of being exposed as well. She has benefited a lot from these same Jail Boys, Jele boys, Jere boys, (Jerabos).

  23. The message has been sent to the power that be though it was carried in a ‘dirty’ envlop; it now remains for them to take action. The situation on the Copperbelt, kitwe in particular is quiet fragile as far as the jerabo-police affair is concerned. If the state increased the salaries for our officers by 4 million across the board, will the corruption cease over night? First things first led the state deal with these wicked officers first, transfer them, i would suggest that they take Dr Solomon jere to the copperbelt. Though the message came through wicked channels, the thing is the state while should increase the salaries immediately this is a very sensitive area.

  24. Wipe out the Jerabos then there will be no one to take bribes from, rotate these officers and give them a pay rise. reduce the penalties for traffic offences as well to say 50pin then we will be paying directly to grz. corruptin will never stop in zp, never! try a new IG i think ba Shikulu ba Sata, Martin Malama was the Best CB has ever had he could have cleared all the Jerabos if he was given time.

    • In a land few of crooked Politicians, you honestly need a shadow government. The MAFIA.And that is what the JERABOS are, THE MAFIA.You can’t wipe them. They are far better off than our current political leadership. When they promise, they fulfil.

  25. This IG is a lair She herself is a beneficially of Jerabo money, The clean cop Dr. Malama did not last under PF because PF was funded by Jerabos! Sata Removed Malama due to complaints from Jerabos because he was veru tough on them. Sata then appointed the one he new would be friendly to them. PF talk of fighting corruption is just a smoke screen they are deep into corruption! Even the compromised Post today is carrying a story of GBM soliciting contracts from ZESCO because they know he has now gone too far. GBM’s bid is very high the suppy of wooden poles and yet he is pressing ZESCO to give him the contract.

  26. @ # 14 NoRich it is unbelievable how corrupt cops in zed have become. I was robbed in broad day light by call boys at Lusaka inter city bus terminus in full view of two female cops stationed there. The call boys got ticket money from me under false pretence that they work for Euro Africa bus services when infact they work for another less frequently used bus operator. When I tried claiming my money back they started threatening violence and even dared me to report them to the police if i want. For sure when I took my complaint to the cops stationed there they were least bothered and even said that it was my fault. Later I came to be told that the call boys share their spoils with the cops. That is Zambia for you.

  27. Madam IG, please send Mama Kalenga to Copper belt. Kalenga will deal with these corrupt Police Officers, she is more resourceful than any other Officer. I would appeal to the President to divide the country into two commands and let each command have it’s IG. iIt will be easier logistically to command. This will help to institute reform in the Police force. When this is done make Mama Kalenga the Southern province head of Police the IG for Northern command which will include Copper belt, Northern, Muchinga, Luapula and Central provinces. I see this as the only way to fight corruption and clean the Police force.

  28. Let Sata fulfill his campaign promises. He promised these cops Heaven on earth. He made too many promises which he can’t fulfill. And he won the elections. When the Jerabos promise, they fulfill, that’s the difference. These cops have children to send to school.Parents and other relatives to support, etc. They need to lead a very comfortable life as well. After all, these cops helped Sata win the September 20th elections. Are they not the ones who leaked information to PF cadres whenever MMD wanted to rig the elections? They have the right to complain. These cops are real human beings who equally face real challenges in life, which have to be solved by them. They are suffering TODAY not TOMORROW.And it’s not easy. When a person experiences so much suffering, usually they drop their guard. It’s sad.
