Zim golfer celebrates Zambia open triumph

Zimbabwean golfer Stuart Krog on Sunday came from behind to win the 2026 Zambia Open at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.

Krog leapfrogged Jason Roets, the leader over the previous two days, as he carded a fantastic six-under-par 66 at the Mopani Copper Mines bankrolled Sunshine Tour sanctioned tournament.

“I just played dream golf today. I am glad I got it down today,” Krog said after the medal’s presentation ceremony.

Zambian professional golfer Dayne Moore and his compatriot Stalian Daka finished modestly.

They were the only Zambians who made the cut and played through to the final day.

Moore on Sunday played six-over-par 78, his worst round at this tournament for a four-day total of 13-over-par 301.

Moore reacted:” My ball-striking was not great this week. This course is challenging and it tells you about your game and I know my weak points are.”

He started with a level-par 72, before adding five-over-par 74 and two-over-par 74 in the second and third rounds respectively.

Daka, the only amateur to make the cut said: “I have learnt a lot from playing with the pros, I need to work on the game-plan which we don’t do here as amateurs.”

ZGU president Mohammed Bhagoo hailed the Zambia Open as a top-notch tournament.

“Until there is support from corporate for academies like here at Nkana, Chainama and Lusaka, we can’t be as competitive,” he said.
