President Hichilema assures Zambians of credible elections

President Hakainde Hichilema has assured Zambians that the country will hold credible elections.

President Hichilema stated that the August 13 general elections will be free, fair and peaceful.

He said Zambia will maintain the tradition of holding peaceful democratic elections.

“We will keep the tradition of peaceful elections in our country.”

The Head of State said this when He addressed Seventh Day Church members who gathered at Mulungushi International Conference Center for a musical fellowship organised by the Quartet Family singing group.

President Hichilema further assured the congregants that God will guide the country through the August 13 elections.

He said the country will remain standing together after holding the August 13 general elections.

“I can confirm, and assure the people of Zambia, that this election season, we will come through as a nation and the nation will remain standing together.”

He recalled that in 2021, two months prior to the general elections the opposition was tear-gassed.

President Hichilema said he has taken responsibility to ensure that this year’s general elections are different compared to those held in 2021.

He explained that campaigns should be used to tell the electorates what political parties are offering if voted into power.

President Hichilema stated that those seeing public office must be ready to serve the people and not themselves.

He said personal interest should not come first at the expense of the people.

“I am a believer that national interest comes first and personal interests will be taken care of when we have understood that national interest comes first,” He said.

And speaking earlier, during the divine service, Southern Zambia Union Conference President Vanny Munyumbwe called for unity ahead of the August 13 general elections.

Dr Munyumbwe urged Zambians to embrace unity and love for each other.

He said despite different political affiliations unity must prevail.

Dr Munyumbwe stressed that political diversity must not be allowed to fracture national unity.
