The Commuters’ Rights Association of Zambia has called on the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to ensure there is sanity on the Zambian roads.
Commuters Rights Association of Zambia President Aaron Kamuti stated that it is cardinal that the RTSA continue being effective in maintaining order on the roads across the country.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Kamuti observed in an interview in Lusaka, today, with that he expects absolute change in behaviour from both the motorists and the Law Enforcement Agencies responsible.
He further implored commuters of public busses to report cases of abuse from the Public Service Drivers.
Mr. Kamuti said that as the Association it wants to see the rights of commuters across the country upheld by all.
He lamented that in the past there have been rampant cases of Public Service drivers harassing travelers.
Mr. Kamuti commended Transport and Communications Deputy Minister Colonel Panji Kaunda for taking it upon himself to also be part of RTSA in carrying out its operations of impounding erring motorists.
I support col kaunda the job well done during the festival season,A permanent solution is to be found by RTSA to sort out the mini bus drivers eg erring mini bus drivers to have the licences taken to RTSA offices only to be returned upon payment of the fine and please POLICE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to be impounding these vehicles they have let us down look at the permanent check point along chacha road ,how much has the govt raised ,what is the motive behind it , pls the T.O do something before you are lebelled as a benefficially.
its festive season not festival season ba guy
RTSA must first bring sanity to itself. They seem to have a static mind, they don’t think of improving their service delivery. Every station in the country has unending queues while the officers effectively stay in their offices for 4 hours a day without regard to their customers.
While motor vehicles and drivers are increasing they still operate as if there are 20 vehicles. I know that if they cannot clean their own house someone else will, it’s just a matter of time.
Educate and sensetize the travelling public to report any overspeeding driver to the police or emergency number by texting the bus info. the person’s name and cell phone should not be revealed to the driver or the bus company unless if the matter goes to court where a witness is required.
imwe ba # 2 its like you do not use these public transports .police have became toothless more especially when it comes to reporting a fee paying mini bus driver may be RTSA can do a good job let us surpport them .
Zambia at the moment has more learner drivers then qualified ones shame its not easy driving on Zambian roads anywhere, everywhere everybody has the right of way
Ba RTSA,just to replace a driver’s licence it too me three days. You have about 4 – 5 counters at your ndola office but ONLY ONE operates and you to talk of sanity. Clean up these long queues then start talk of cleaning the roads.
Plse rtsa help us motorists who use the lumumba filter lanes to join freedomway .we are caught up daily by the illegal bus stop made by minibus drivers who litarally block motorists from passing through and are threatened by call boys .the spots are after ponchick restrurant .hungry lion corner and its blocked from 16 hrs until 19@rs daily .
Zambia know no speed limits. Drivers drive the speed they feel fits them even in built up areas. Crazy stuff goes on on our roads.
Most ideas are good however in practice nothing can work when enforcement officers and court officials get peanuts as salaries, that’s the reason why corruption cannot be eradicated ,only when people are getting enough will corruption and sanity come in,it’s very unfrotunate but it’s the plain truth,i feel sorry for public service workers in Zambia.
Just improve on service delivery, period!
Reduction of road traffic accidents is multi faceted problem. It stems from respect for one another while on the road, unqualified drivers on the road, driving while drunk, non existent speed limits, defective vehicles on the roads, fraudulent issuance of driving licences, lack of road traffic check points and I can go on and on.
Legislation should be changed to make it tough to obtain a driving licence and there should be road traffic check points irregardless of convinience to the public, lets face it, it is better to save life than to lose it for the sake of convinience.
In Zambia I think we talk too much and do very little.
RATSA catch those mwenyes who race on cairo Road and great East with their silly imprezzas and race cars. The ring leaders are those Ticklay boys and those italian mafias. Atti ZedTuned on facebook. Catch them and imprison. Ka mwenye and muzungus.
Give them a break. They need training space to come with the next racing champion like ticklay to do our heads high
Put photo camera or video camera in the areas where the motorist do not respect the speed limits .
RATSA do you exist in Chipata? Can you see that Saturday market stalls are right beside the highway if not on the highway. Can you imagine how many people can be hurt if an accident happents ther? Who will be responsible? And to make matters worse taxis also park right on the highway without any regard or fear of the law. We are truly going to the dogs.
Hi, just wanted to say i liked this article.
