Grade 7 pupil of Choma commits suicide

An 18 year old man of Choma has committed suicide by hanging himself in an unfinished church building belonging to the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA).

Police sources in Choma have confirmed the incident to ZANIS but declined to give further details referring queries to Southern Province Police Commissioner Mary Chikwanda.

But caretaker at the Kasensa Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) where the incident occurred, Auditor Chiboola said the body of the man identified as Laston Mulongo was discovered hanging in the unfinished church building in the early hours of yesterday, Tuesday.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established.

Mr Chiboola who resides within the church premises explained that during his routine inspection of the church premises, he was shocked to find the body of the deceased dangling from the supporting pillars of the roof.

He said he immediately alerted the church elder who later reported the matter to police.

Police went to the scene and found the body still hanging while scores of onlookers were struggling to catch a glimpse of the body.

The body of the deceased has since been taken to Choma General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.

Sources said the deceased was as a grade eleven pupil of Chuundu High School in Choma.

Police have since launched investigations into the matter.
