3

Zambia captain Ziyo Tembo says they are determined to extend their winning streak when they face Ethiopia in Saturday’s friendly.

Chipolopolo host Ethiopia in a friendly at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka on the back of a two-match winning run.

The highlight during the back-to-back wins over Swaziland was a 3-0 victory at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on July 22 that handed coach Wedson Nyirenda his debut home win.

Chipolopolo are using the friendly to prepare for next weekend’s 2018 CHAN final round, first leg qualifier away to South Africa.

“So far so good the team spirit and morale in camp is high and everyone is ready for the game,” Ziyo said.

“The fans should expect an explosive game and we shall perform to our level best to come up with a good result.

“And we definitely have to win because we have been training hard for this game and also next week’s game (against South Africa).”

Zambia will face South Africa on August 12 in East London and later host Bafana Bafana on August 19 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to decide who qualifies to the CHAN finals in Kenya next year.

Rainbow Party President Wynter Kabimba on Friday morning visited incarcerated UPND President Hakainde Hichilema at Mukobeko Maximum prison.

In an interview shortly after the visit, Mr Kabimba said Mr Hichilema is looking well.

He said he encouraged Mr Hichilema to be strong.

“He is looking well, I encouraged him and tried to strengthen him,” Mr Kabimba said.

The Rainbow Party leader also condemned the prison conditions under which Mr Hichilema is kept.

Mr. Kabimba said the people that have thrown Mr Hichilema in prison have already punished him enough due to the poor prison conditions.

“HH needs encouragement from those of us that are outside because prison conditions in this country are terrible and that is why I refuse to agree that that’s why I don’t agree that our prisons are now correctional facilities. These are not correctional facilities, there is no way you can correct somebody’s behavior in deplorable conditions. So they are still prisons,” Mr Kabimba said.

Mr. Hichilema was arrested in April and slapped with a non bailable treason charge.

He is scheduled to appear in the Lusaka High Court on the 14th August 2017.

City of Lusaka hire Italian coach and demote Chilombo

7

Limping FAZ Super Division side City of Lusaka have dropped coach Hector Chilombo to the role of assistant after hiring Italian trainer Roberto Landi.

City are second from the bottom of the table with 11 points from 20 matches played.

Club spokesperson Alex Njobvu said Landi has been hired together with compatriot Giuseppe Macca for the remainder of the season.

Njobvu emphasised that City have not fired Chilombo contrary to speculations that followed the club’s 3-1 loss at Zanaco in midweek action.

“Italian Landi is now the overall boss of the technical bench and Giuseppe is the physical trainer,” he said.

“We have engaged them up to the end of the season and after that we shall see,” Njobvu said.

Landi has coached in Liberia, America and Europe.

“We have not fired coach Hector. In fact he remains our coach although Landi is the superior.”

This is the third time City are reshuffling their bench this season.

Linos Chalwe backs Nyirenda stance on team discipline

6

Ex-Chipolopolo striker Linos Chalwe has backed coach Wedson Nyirenda’s hard stance against erring players aimed at instilling discipline in the squad.

Nyirenda has axed striker Fwayo Tembo and midfielder Clatous Chama from the national team on disciplinary grounds.

Fwayo declined to feature in the away friendly against South Africa in June, while Chama refused to sit on the bench after being substituted during last month’s CHAN qualifier against Swaziland in Lusaka.

Chalwe, the General Secretary of the Footballers and Allied Workers Union, said it is vital that players are disciplined.

“Discipline is paramount in anything one would want to achieve. I support what the coach (Nyirenda) is saying. Discipline is very important in any field,” Chalwe said .

“On Clatous, you don’t do that (refusing to sit on the bench), a lot of people were watching. Players need to lead by example. They are role models,” the former Green Buffaloes and Napsa Stars forward said.

“We will try to educate them on their conduct, fair play and the academic part of football.,” Chalwe said.

Chalwe was once detained in the guard room at Arrakan Barracks for days after going out of the country for trials without permission while at Buffaloes.

“Minus discipline you can’t achieve anything.”

Interview with Kasonde Ndakasha ,owner of Kassy’s Classic Cakes

Kasonde Bernadette Ndakasha is the owner of popular bakery Kassy’s Classic Cakes. She is a young Zambian entrepreneur who advocates for self-sustainability and encourages the youth to use their skills and talents to make an honest living. She recently launched her first book, ‘Baking with Kassy’. “Its such an honor and a great privilege to have our own local baking book for Zambians and by a Zambian.”

We caught up with her for an interview.

KAPA187: When did you discover your love for baking?

KASONDE: I discovered that I love baking somewhere in 2013, when I started continuously trying out different things when it came to cake recipes. I found it interesting and exciting.

KAPA187: What was your inspiration to establish your own baking business, Kassy’s Classic cake?

KASONDE: Starting my company was actually not a planned move. In 2014 I got fired from my formal job for no proper reason so I told myself I will have to do something on my own, as opposed to looking for a job all over again.

KAPA187: What would you say separates Kassy’s Classic cakes from other cake makers?

KASONDE: Basically I feel it’s the fact that we have worked on our product for so long and we have perfected it. When you get a cake from us you are guaranteed a perfect and satisfactory product.

KAPA187: What challenges did you face when starting up your business, and how did you overcome them?

KASONDE: The first challenge I can talk about when I just started is that I didn’t know how to bake. People used to complain a lot, some people would actually bring back the cakes and demand their money back. I spent a lot of time trying out different recipes until I found something that worked.

Other than that there was the issue of market penetration. Almost everyone has a bakery, so trying to win people over was hard. It took a lot of marketing and free give always to finally convince people that I do have something to offer.

KAPA187: What type of cakes do you specialize in?

KASONDE: We make cakes for all occasions; wedding cakes, picture cakes, themed cakes, anything.

KAPA187: Tell us about your book “Baking with Kassy”, how has the response to it been so far?

KASONDE: The response to the book has been great, but you know there is always room for more. We are hoping we can reach people on different platforms other than social media, which we are using right now to do all our publicity and advertising. Very soon we will have the books available in bookstores. I am sure that will help reach a wider audience.

KAPA187: Do you feel the current economic climate in Zambia is favorable to entrepreneurs such as yourself?

KASONDE: Well the economy is not favorable per say, simply because the cost of production for a lot of things is so high. This makes it difficult as an entrepreneur to offer a service at a cheap and affordable rate to our customers, but we just have to keep at it.

KAPA187: What advice would you give to young people who have a passion for something and want to venture into “nontraditional” careers?

KASONDE: Self-sustainability is the way to go really, the government can’t employ us all and we can’t just sit and wait, so we NEED to go out there and find something to do. Quite alright it’s not easy especially starting, but it gets better, believe me, plus you are able to work at your own pace and time so you can build an empire.

KAPA187: Apart from your baking business you also a wedding planner, marketing consultant and motivational speaker. Tell us more about that?

KASONDE: Specializing in wedding cakes, I have had a lot of exposure in the wedding industry. I have worked with so many people who work in different fields and I’m able to do wedding planning because of that.

For motivational speaking, I feel the urge to encourage youths and cheer them on. Share my experiences, especially what I have learnt in regards to running a business single handedly.

I also do a bit of marketing consultation; especially when it comes to market penetration, market strategies and advertising. These are the factors that have greatly contributed to the growth of my company in less than a year. From 2014 to 2015 my clientele base grew by say 90%.

KAPA187: How do you manage to balance your various ventures?

KASONDE: I am a workaholic, I usually sleep late at night and mostly I’m all over the place, but I always make sure that I get my work done and it’s done on time. I practically don’t have a social life.

KAPA187: Any last words…

KASONDE: Lastly I would like to encourage young people out there to step up! Go out there and do something. If you need ideas or just someone to talk to about your business plans and ideas I’m always available to help and advise where I can. For those already running businesses but feel they need a boost please feel free to contact me. My Facebook page is called Kassy’s Classic Cakes. You can send me a message, and then we can take it from there.

Dear Zambian youth it’s time to starting living your dream and not just dreaming it.

Thank you

No wearing of party regalia at the Ukusefya pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony-Police

10

Chief Chitimukulu

THE police command in Northern Province has warned political parties against wearing party regalia at the Ukusefya pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony of the Bemba set for next Saturday in Kasama.

Provincial commissioner of police Richard Mweene told journalists in Kasama recently that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the ceremony is incident-free.

“We are ready for the ceremony and we will ensure that order is maintained. We do not want anyone to put on party regalia to avoid confusion during the celebrations,” he said.

Mr Mweene said the police in the province are equal to the task of maintaining law and order.

And Bemba Royal Establishment spokesperson James Mulenga said preparations for the celebrations are progressing well.

“We are just doing the final. The Zesco team has managed to construct a marquee at the main arena where invited guests will sit,” Mr Mulenga said.

He urged people travelling to the ceremony and the locals to uphold peace during the celebrations.

Lusaka Province Minister, Mr. Japhen Mwakalombe
GOVERNMENT says it will partner with the Chinese government to transform Lusaka Province into an agro-processing hub in line with its robust economic diversification programme through industrialisation.

Lusaka Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe said the establishment of agro-processing plants in Lusaka will reduce wastage of agro-products and contribute to sustainable economic development.

Mr Mwakalombe was speaking at Ethiopia’s Bole International Airport when he was transiting from China where he was attending the China Zambia week alongside Vice-President Inonge Wina.

This is according to a statement issued by first secretary for press and tourism Inutu Mwanza at the Zambian mission in Ethiopia.

“Lusaka being an area with a lot of agro-products will now have means of preserving agricultural foods after the processing plants are set up,” he said.

Mr Mwakalombe also said plans are underway to divide Lusaka Province into industrial zones that will culminate in the setting up of industrial parks that will be specialised in manufacturing to grow the economy in the province.

He said Lusaka needed an economic boost as it was the second biggest contributor to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) after Copperbelt Province.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwakalombe announced plans to turn Lusaka into a conferencing tourism site with modern structures that would attract people to Lusaka Province.

He said Government intends to partner with Chinese investors to upgrade old buildings in the central business district.

He said those who own buildings have been called upon to enter into partnerships with some Chinese investors who would develop skyscrapers in Lusaka.

And Zambia Tourism Agency chief executive officer Felix Chaila, who was part of the entourage, said tourism is the catalyst for investment and economic development if well harnessed.

He said Zambia’s tourism sector needs to be driven by the domestic market like China.

Mr Chaila said the Ministry of Tourism has plans of building hotels in tourist destinations in order to make accommodation affordable especially for local tourists.

Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo
Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo
MINISTER of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo says Government is ready to process applications for dual citizenship in line with the provisions of the amended Constitution.

Mr Kapyongo said at a press briefing yesterday that citizens who wish to acquire dual citizenship must notify the chief passport and citizenship officer or the nearest Zambian mission after successfully acquiring the other citizenship.

Mr Kampyongo said it is imperative for all citizens to thoroughly read the guidelines and understand the requirements of the acquisition of dual citizenship.

“Now that the regulations are in place, citizens of Zambia who wish to acquire citizenship of another country must notify the chief passport and citizenship officer or the nearest Zambian mission after successfully acquiring the other citizenship.

“Those who would like more information should consult the office of the chief passport and citizenship officer on all procedural matters relating to dual citizenship,” Mr Kampyongo said.

He said persons who ceased to be Zambian citizens as a result of acquiring citizenship of another country but wish to restore their Zambian nationality will have to apply to the citizenship board for bestowal.

“Persons whose citizenship has been bestored will be required to present a certificate of bestowal of citizenship to the national registration section of the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship for issuance of a green national registration card.

Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo said methods of acquiring Zambian citizenship are provided for under Article 34 of the republican Constitution and that it shall be by birth, desent, registration and by adoption.

President Lungu on January 5, 2016, assented to the Constitution amendment Act, which among other things, provides for dual citizenship.
