Public Order Act – Lets Pray

8

public order

October 10th 2015 has been designated as a day of National Prayers. From the face value it looks like a very noble gesture by government.

If you think about it very critically however, it’s like a man hiding a knife at his back who then tells the group to close their eyes and pray. “No sir you have to put your knife away before we can close our eyes.”

it’s like a man hiding a knife at his back who then tells the group to close their eyes and pray

The Public Order Act is such an instrument of intimidation which the government controls and can easily do away with to show seriousness with the day of national prayers.
The Zambian government which holds all instruments of power should not initiate national prayer without showing some resemblance of sincerity, give us something tangible Mr. President to show you mean well with prayers.

We serve a living God, a practical God. Before we even step in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross for prayers, he has already answered our prayers and all he is asking for, is government to put away everything which is holding the country backwards.

The appointment of ministers from the opposition should stop immediately, this practise has created a lot of pain in the opposition and it is not well meaning. This exercise which has caused a lot of bye elections, has drained our treasury to the last penny, It is immoral and God is saying stop it.

Prayer to end corruption should be on the list because the vice does not please God, remember Zambia is a Christian nation.I believe President Lungu is sincere and the members of the opposition should take him on his word.

PF cadres in Kitwe demonstrate against Luxon Kazabu

PF Nkana Member of Parliament Luxon Kazabu
PF Nkana Member of Parliament Luxon Kazabu

The PF in Kitwe’s Nkana constituency have called for the immediate expulsion of Nkana member of parliament Lackson Kazabu alleging that he supports an opposition political party.

The cadres who marched to ZNBC’s Kitwe studio sang solidarity songs denouncing Mr Kazabu accussing him of being a traitor.

Kitwe district youth Chairman Mukonzo Kaboba says Mr Kazabu’s decision to side with a known opposition Political party is a betrayal to the PF and President Edgar Lungu.

Mr. Kaboba says Mr Kazabu has failed to initiate and push for developmental projects in Nkana living most of the people in the area wallowing in poverty.

And Youths in Nkana constituency alleged that the parliamentarian has no interest in their welfare and that he must leave the party.

But Mr Kazabu says it is immoral for anyone to call for his expulsion for simply for bailing out his nephew who was among UPND cadres detained for unlawful procession together with Chongwe MP Slyvia Masebo.

Meanwhile Mr Kazabu says the developmental projects he has initiated are clear for everyone to see.

HH happy with By-Election Results, sees UPND making inroads in PF strongholds

UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema

United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has said that the voters in Solwezi and Lubansenshi have sent a have sent a powerful message to the Patriotic Front (PF) Government that using taxpayers money to corrupt the mind of voters will not work in 2016.

In a message thanking his campaigners and all the people who turned out to vote, the UPND leader said that while his party may not have triumphed in Lubansenshi, the Party has managed to reduce the PF vote to less than 50% in the constituency, an area the PF had thought was still their stronghold, despite intimidation and threats.

Below is the full Statement

Official Statement on By election Results from HH

25 September 2015

We would like to thank our campaigners and all the people who turned out to vote in yesterday’s parliamentary and ward by elections.

Our fellow citizens in both Lubansenshi and Solwezi West braved violence, intimidation and threats to exercise their democratic right and vote for change that addresses the current economic challenges they are facing.

In particular, the result of the Solwezi West parliamentary by election which saw our candidate Teddy Kasonso win with an overwhelming majority of more than 75%, shows that together we can triumph even in the face of police brutality and PF thuggery. Our congratulations go to the newly elected Hon Kasonso. We know he will serve the people of Solwezi West well even in the short time before the next elections.

The voters of Solwezi West, and to a large extent Lubansenshi, have sent a powerful message to the PF Government that using taxpayers money to corrupt the mind of voters will not work in 2016. The pain is too much and the people are suffering. They have seen that the current PF Government does not care for the people. Look how they behave, instead of addressing the economic problems and challenges at home even the President himself is more concerned about travelling around, spending money on allowances while civil servants at home go without salaries.

Despite falling short in the Lubansenshi parliamentary by election, Patrick Mucheleka was and still is a very strong candidate and the best for Lubansenshi. He did his best to retain that seat and continue serving the people of Lubansenshi, but that was not to be. I would like to urge Patrick to not lose heart, but forge ahead and continue serving the people of Lubansenshi as before. We all know that the PF is preoccupied with winning elections, after that they forget the people that put them in power.

But we are consoled by the huge share increase in our numbers from January 2015 and this in the face of serious interference and manipulation that cannot be tolerated by the ECZ in 2016. The ECZ must learn from these by elections and make sure that those who flout electoral regulations such as vote buying are punished.

Let us not forget that our campaign team in Lubansenshi were constantly being harassment and exposed to the violent behaviour by PF cadres during the campaign period. While we may not have triumphed the PF vote was reduced to less than 50% in the constituency. This in an area the PF had thought was still their stronghold!

As more and more Zambians from across the country join our party we are better able to reveal this interference and manipulation by the PF. The trend is in our favour and in 2016 together we can win the elections and get started immediately on addressing the various important issues at hand, stabilising the economy, addressing management issues in the power sector, passing on oil price falls to the consumer, delivering the people-driven constitution and addressing the crisis in higher education.

Fellow Zambians. Solwezi and Lubansenshi and a number of ward by elections have shown the way, amidst vote buying, brutality, intimidation they have shown that Zambians can rise up and correct things.

Let us now get the voting instruments we need so that come 2016 we can vote together come rain or shine to move Zambia Forward.

Hakainde Hichilema

Zanaco & Power approach cross roads in league race

0

Zanaco and Power Dynamos battle to stay relevant in the race for the 2015 FAZ Super Division title this weekend in their respective league engagements.

Second placed Zanaco visit Red Arrows to play a Lusaka derby at Nkoloma Stadium.

Across town at Edwin Emboela Stadium, third placed Power Dynamos make the trip from Kitwe to play Nkwazi.

Both Zanaco and Power must win this weekend to enhance their chances of reaching the 65-point threshold that Zesco will reach in just three games to probably clinch the 2015 title with another three games to spare.

Zanaco have 49 points, seven behind Zesco who only play on Sunday when they visit Nchanga Rangers in Chingola.

The Bankers will be hoping to complete back-to-back wins over 7th placed Arrows whom they beat 2-0 in the first leg at Sunset Stadium last June.

Meanwhile, Power must win this weekend or will be relegated to chasing the number two place with Zanaco.

With 47 points heading into their date at Nkwazi, a draw away may not be enough for them to catch Zesco with five games left after this weekends week 25 fixtures.

Power head into the match without a victory in their last three competitive games since beating Nkana 2-1 on August 28.

That derby hangover triumph has seen Power pick up two successive league draws including a Barclays Cup quarterfinal elimination last Saturday to Green Buffaloes on post-match penalties.

And so Power coach Tennant Chilumba knows this weekends match is a do-or-die affair for him.

In The Kitchen With Kanta : Luscious Red velvet cake

Today I’m taking it back to my specialty of cakes and bringing you this brilliant red velvet cake recipe that can only be described as amazing.  Savoury food is all fair and well, but every now and then you need a sweet treat; and as the weekend encroaches I figured I would share this special recipe with my readers.

If followed properly this recipe will produce a cake so amazing, decadent, rich, moist and darn right delicious; that it will make your granny’s knees knock….below you will find the recipe, method and tools to make your very own little piece of heaven.

Preparation and Baking time: 1hr 20min

This will make a 7 inch round cake

Serves 10 people

Ingredients

Cake

  • 280g self raising flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 110g butter, at room temperature
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 200ml buttermilk (200ml milk and 2 tablespoons lemon juice)
  • 1 tablespoon red food colouring gel
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar

Cream cheese icing

  • 300g icing sugar
  • 50g unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 125g cream cheese, cold

Method

Preheat the oven to 100 – 150 C / Gas 4.   Butter and flour either two shallow 7inch round cake tins, or one 7 inch deep round cake tin.

Make the buttermilk by mixing 200ml of milk with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (or buy buttermilk).

Combine the flour, cocoa and salt. Leave aside.

In a large bowl, start whisking the butter. Once creamy, add the sugar in two batches, whisking between each addition. Whisk in the eggs one by one, then the vanilla extract.  Start adding the flour mixture to the butter mixture in batches, whisking after each addition. The cake mixture will be thick. Add the buttermilk and food colouring; whisk till smooth.

Quickly combine the bicarbonate and vinegar in a separate bowl or cup. Fold into the cake mixture. Once incorporated, pour the mixture into the tin(s).

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean. Remove and cool slightly in the tin before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Now whisk the cream cheese, icing sugar and butter together, until smooth and creamy.

Once the cake is completely cool, cut it in half, put icing in the centre and cover the top, and sides with more icing.

Decorate to your liking, with either red velvet crumbs from the cake, or sprinkles.

Lubansenshi,Solwezi West -proof of tribal politics,ECZ failure to educate electorate

How can one country , facing the same challenges have such varying results ? Why should there be such huge margins , opposite of each other in varying regions?. After over 200 years of sharing this country, the deep mistrust between tribes still divides us.

It is the duty of the Electoral commission to educate voters about why they should cast their votes. The just ended By-Election shows that people are merely practising regional politics. In the same country, surely we should share similar sentiment about the state of affairs but why such variations? ECZ should create provisions to penalise political parties that campaign on tribal lines. Sentiment like “vote for your own” I think candidates who issue such statements should be disqualified.

This type of attitude is very primitive and hinders development. If we continue down this path we are surely headed nowhere. People treat national issues like soccer , you support Arsenal or Chelsea through thick and thin. How many times have we heard statements like “tulemikolopa” or this party for life ? This is the mentality ECZ should work at ridding the nation of. Because so far they are failing in their job. We can not continue down this path. The past by elections results are just shameful , and an indicator of the primitivity of our politics and governance systems.

THE probe into the leakage of President Lungu’s maiden speech to the ceremonial opening of the fifth session of the 11th National Assembly to The Post newspaper has been cast wide extending to State House staff and other Government employees.

State House permanent secretary Emmanuel Chilubanama said Government through its investigative wings has made headways in the investigations.

Mr Chilubanama said in an interview from Solwezi yesterday that the vigorous investigation is also a measure to curb similar incidents in future.

He said it is criminal for classified information to be found in possession of unauthorised hands and that the perpetrators will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Mr Chilubanama noted that the leaking of secret documents has not been rampant in President Lungu’s administration and that State House will continue to endeavour and ensure it is not perpetrated.

He said the investigations will be conducted expeditiously before getting to the bottom of the matter as the stages through which the speech underwent are known.

“Let me take this opportunity to warn State House staff and Government workers in general against leaking secret documents because if they are found wanting, they will be dealt with severely within the ambits of the law.

“We know the stages it (speech) passed through and it is simple to get to the bottom of the matter and we have made headways after handing over the matter to the investigative wings,” Mr Chilubanama said
He said it is worrying that some sensitive Government plans and deliberations are sometimes leaked to the public before it is appropriate to publish them in public domain.

He said it is the responsibility of all Government workers to ensure that secret documents are safely kept within specified boundaries.

And Mr Chilubanama has dispelled rumours that President Lungu’s political adviser Kaizer Zulu has been suspended following reports in The Post newspaper that he fired shots from his pistol at Enock Kavindele Junior at Lusaka’s Chrismar Hotel.

On Tuesday, Inspector-General of police Stella Libongani said police have instituted investigations into the leakage of President Lungu’s speech to the ceremonial opening of the fifth session of the 11th National Assembly to The Post newspaper.

Ferngroove BC, a Lusaka based investment advisory firm is targeting to raise up to USD 150 million through international fund managers for local investment projects in Zambia.

Ferngroove is working with US-based consulting firm Nova Vista Capital Advisors to attract US investors and raise millions of foreign direct investment into the Zambian economy.

Ferngroove which offers corporate finance and financial advisory services has in the past successfully raised investment funds for its clients from local and international financial markets.

“We want to play an active role in contributing to the economic growth of our country by attracting foreign direct investment that will be able to help in creating jobs for Zambians,” says Conrad Gomani, Ferngroove Group Chairman.

He said the USD 150 million deal is expected to be sealed during October 2015 meetings with fund managers in New York.

We don’t want to sit on the bench, we want to work with the Government in raising more funds to be channeled towards high impact investment ventures in Zambia, said Gomani.

And Nova Vista Capital Advisors Managing Director, Anthony Presley Richard commented that: “we are always ready and willing to facilitate investment meetings that can generate foreign investment into Africa and tap into its existing potential.”

Recently, Ferngroove BC facilitated an investment tour involving a French Pharmaceutical giant which announced intentions to start distributing its range of drugs and health care products on the Zambian market immediately.

Government says the implementation of the Quality Management Systems in all public health laboratories across the country is progressing well.

Deputy Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said this will help all public laboratories in the country to conform to the clinical laboratories standard of ISO 15189 and achieve accreditation.

Dr. Chilufya said this will also make clinical laboratories in Zambia to be internationally recognized and also provide confidence in laboratory services for better patient management.

The deputy minister said this in Lusaka today in a speech read on his behalf by Acting Director of Clinical Care and Diagnostics Services Davy Nsama at the official opening of the five days Training Workshop on Minimum Standards for National Reference Laboratories in the Southern African Development Community (SADCC).

The training workshop has attracted laboratory specialists from all central and general Hospitals across the country.

And Dr. Chilufya expressed hope that the training workshop will help in accelerating the implementation of the quality management systems at all levels of laboratory services countrywide.

Zambia has subscribed to the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) 2020 vision target of enrolling 2,500 laboratories across Africa of which 250 must achieve accreditation.

President Lungu should be supported on progressive statements -Shakafuswa

KATUBA member of Parliament (MP) Jonas Shakafuswa (UPND) has appealed to Zambians with divergent views not to hate President Lungu.

Mr Shakafuswa told Parliament on Wednesday that the head of State should be supported whenever he makes progressive statements in order to diffuse the hatred that has emerged among political parties.

“Don’t hate Edgar Lungu. There is a lot of hatred going on among political parties. I have personally engaged President Lungu in a lot of things, some of them are in his Presidential speech,” Mr Shakafuswa said.

He was contributing to the motion of thanks to the President’s address to the House last Friday.

Mr Shakafuswa said President Lungu’s declaration of October 18 as the national day of prayer; reconciliation and fasting should be supported by all peace-loving Zambians.

He said the declaration should be embraced by all as it symbolises that God has come to the country.
He said the current regionalism that has engulfed the political field should not be promoted.

Mr Shakafuswa is concerned that Zambians are grouping each other and this is detrimental to the well- being of politics in the country.

He said he will not wait for 2016 to work with those in Government because his role in the opposition is to offer checks and balances.

Mr Shakafuswa said there is need for the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to “walk the talk”when it comes to implementing the Presidential speech.
