Catherine Phiri Battles to Home Town Decision Win

48

A home town decision heralded female teenage bantamweight Catharine Phiri arrival on the big stage with victory over Nathalie Forget on Saturday night in Lusaka.

The 20-year-old boxer ground-out to a split point decision victory in a grueling 10-round contest over her Canadian rival at Government Complex in Lusaka.

Phiri dominated the opening seven rounds before her gas tank started to run low in the latter three rounds that Forget dominated.

38-year-old Forget, with an impressive football work, pressed from round one despite being behind on the judges’ scorecards but never rattled Phiri with any dangerous punches.

Forgets hooks flew wildly and her attempts to draw Phiri to fight on the inside to try and get a decisive uppercut failed to yield any result as the Zambian kept a tight guard before dodging her way out of a potential slugfest.

Phiri’s strategy to fight on the outside and let Forget dictate the pace while the Zambian jabbed and landed hooks helped put her firmly ahead up to the 8th round.

However, fatigue set in for Phiri who had prior to Saturday only fought four-round bouts in her previous four fights.

The experienced Forget set in with body shots that clearly wore-out Phiri from round 8 to 9.

However, a late burst of energy in the final round from Phiri gave a marginal lead again although a draw in this instance would have been a fair result in this modest 10-round contest.

Why the Church should hold Politicians Accountable

34
File: St Ignatius Catholic Church Assistant Parish Priest Father Charles Chilinda leads the congregation in praying for President Michael Sata and First Lady Christine Kaseba during the cerebration of mass in Lusaka after the inauguration.

By Rev Kapya Kaoma

On Tuesday, August 28, Archbishop Desmond Tutu declined an invitation to share the same platform with former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair at the “Discovery Invest Leadership Summit” in Johannesburg, South Africa. Tutu objected that Blair’s “morally indefensible” decision to attack Iraq made it awkward for him to share the same platform with him. At first, I found such a response very far-reaching. Afterwards, I realized that Tutu’s position is an invitation to hold politicians accountable for their immoral actions and decisions while in office.

But Tutu’s statement also left me wondering about the relationship between the Church and politics in Zambia. Most Christians are apt to argue that the Church should be apolitical. Religious leaders, they insist, should be concerned with sending people to heaven; it is politicians who must worry about what people eat on earth. After all, politics is a dirty game, which religious ministers should avoid at all costs. But as the Iraq war has shown, political actions have severe consequences: they can build or destroy the nation.

Nobody doubts the dirtiness of politics especially when left unchecked. Yet, it is this filthy game that determines who eats, goes to school and even get medical attention. Equally important is the fact that politics is the key that separates economic prosperity from perpetual poverty, and justice from injustice. Love it or not, politics affects people’s lives. To allow politicians to operate without any checks and balances is like asking starved lions to guard the innocent lambs.

Knowingly or unwittingly, the Church has been instrumental in changing governments in Zambia. UNIP, MMD and now PF worked closely with the Church to get to power. Sadly, the moment these parties got power, they either worked to bribe the Church into ultimate silence or side-lined those religious leaders who refused to be bought. President Chiluba’s relationship with Fr. Umberto, the famous former editor of the Catholic Magazine Icengelo is a good example. At the time when everyone was afraid of Kaunda’s UNIP regime and the print media was highly controlled, Umberto managed to publish articles that presented Chiluba as the “man” strong enough to oppose super Ken. No sooner did Chiluba get to State house than he dismissed Umberto’s voice. Chiluba surrounded himself with pastors who saw him as a “Man of God” sent to liberate Zambia from the demons of UNIP; thus infallible in all his decisions and policies. The Roman Catholic Church and Fr. Frank Bwalya’s relationship with the PF government seem to follow this pattern as well.
[pullquote]Injustice is like a tree; it grows with time. We watch it grow and only want to cut when it has matured.Church leaders should not pretend to be non-partisan when it comes to poverty and injustice in the nation.[/pullquote]

In Zambia, it pays to support the ruling party; after all, the president is the bank of endless cash. Usually, brown envelopes accompany presidential or political officials’ visits to local Churches, making such visits income generating ventures. No wonder, we, the religious leaders are the last ones to stand up against bad governance by government officials. Yet we should remember that injustice is like a tree; it grows with time. We watch it grow and only want to cut when it has matured. Imagine the resources and the lives we would have saved if we cut it when it was still small. Do we really need another 4 more years to see that the PF government has departed from its democratic obligations and promises it made in 2011? Is the continuous harassment of Hakainde Hichilema’s UPND party really justified? Why is the Church so silent on these issues?

It is God’s people who voted PF in power and their voices should be heard in all matters of governance. For politician to ignore the plight of the masses while giving themselves billions of Kwachas is absurd. The PF government knows the root causes of Zambia’s social and economic dire straits. When he was in opposition, President Sata repeatedly cited political greed and corruption as behind Zambia’s growing poverty. Despondently, this political gluttonous situation is increasing under the PF government and the Church is busy watching!

Let me put it this way: Church leaders should not pretend to be non-partisan when it comes to poverty and injustice in the nation. Politicians are stealing from God’s people; the cries and tears of the poor are visible to those who have eyes to see. That child going to bed without food, dying because the hospital has no drugs, denied a place to join the army because s/he has no money to bribe the officers and even arrested for supporting the opposition party is a lovely child of God. Demanding the rights of such a person is within the framework of the ministry of the Church.

I fully understand that the bible calls us to pray for those in authority. However, I wonder how many Christians will close their eyes and pray when a criminal is breaking into their brother’s house. I guess the first reaction is to fight the “thief” before thanking God for defending our brother/sister’s property. As sister’s and brother’s keepers, the Church has a spiritual mandate to defend the least of Jesus’ brothers and sisters – the poor and the oppressed. Sadly in Africa, the prophetic voice of Nigerian legendary musician Fela Kuti in “Coffin for Head of State” still echoes true; behind that corrupt African dictator, politician or business executive, there is a respectable Christian bishop or Muslim Imam. How I wish our bishops can emulate Desmond Tutu for once!

Lions kill, eat Lundazi juvenile

32

A Seven year old boy of Kanjungwa village in chief Kazembe’s area in Lundazi district of Eastern Province has been killed and eaten by marauding lions.

Village headman Musokoleni , Tension Mtonga , confirmed the sad development to ZANIS in Lundazi yesterday, and identified deceased boy as Salvation Nyirenda.

Mr Mtonga narrated that on the material day, around18.00hrs, the boy was having his supper at his mother’ s house when marauding lions caught and dragged him to a nearby bush where they ate his body.

He said the following morning men and women made a follow up but only recovered a skull, toes, ribs and other bones which were immediate buried before reporting to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) at Kazembe headquarters.

Mr Mtonga said ZAWA officers only managed to injure one lion thereby making it more dangerous.

And in a related development, a 42-year-old woman of Chunga village in chief Kazembe’s area in Lundazi is fighting for her life at Kazembe Rural Health Centre after being attacked by lions.

Ms Enelesi Nguni fell asleep in the corridor of her house before the lions attacked and left her with serious injures on her forehead, neck, left leg and chest.

When contacted for comment, a ZAWA officer at Lundazi boma who declined to be named told ZANIS that his office has since dispatched officers to chief Kazembe to control the marauding lions.

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has expressed sadness with some parents said to be using their children and dependants to sell illicit drugs on their behalf.

DEC Public Relations Officer Samuel Silomba said the commission has arrested a 14 year old girl of Morgan Mupu village in Serenje district for trafficking in cannabis which she was selling on behalf of her father.

In a statement to ZANIS , Mr. Silomba said the juvenile who was apprehended from her residence was found with 3 by 50 kilogram bags of cannabis weighing 58.3 kilograms and was in possession of K2.1 million.

He further urged parents to protect and build the future of their children by not involving them in criminal activities.

Meanwhile, DEC has arrested Julius Mukonda, a 28 year old peasant farmer of Chimbinde village in Kaoma district for trafficking in 39 bags of loose cannabis weighing 476 kilograms.

Mr. Silomba further said the commission has also arrested and jointly charged Joyce Mumba 23 and Wedson Chola 25 both peasant farmers of Serenje district for trafficking in loose cannabis concealed in a plastic bag weighing 17.23 kilograms.

Others arrested include an 80 year old Serenje peasant farmer Chola Muyapemba and Isaac Chingumbe 24, of Banda farm in Mukushi for trafficking in 125.15 kilograms of cannabis.

ZAM to hold first ever manufacturers week

15

The Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) has disclosed that it will next week hold the first ever Zambian Manufacturers Week starting today October 21 to Saturday October 27 at Arcades Shopping Mall.

The manufacturers’ week will draw the participation of about 50 manufacturers from across the country.

ZAM Chief Executive Officer Roseta Mwape says the association targets to rise about K200 million from the event.

Ms Mwape, however, stated the event is meant to benefit the manufactures as they will be accorded an opportunity to sale their products and also get feedback from their customers on the products they produce.

She said the event is also aimed at building the image of the association and also for the manufacturers to showcase to the Zambian public what ZAM has to offer.

ZANIS reports that Ms Mwape was speaking at a press briefing at ZAM offices in Lusaka today.

And ZAM president Chance Kabaghe said the event is an opportunity for Zambians to appreciate products that local manufacturers are able to produce.

Mr Kabghe said Zambian manufacturers have the capacity to produce some of the best products that meet international standards.

He said it was unfortunate, however, that though the country was self sufficient in terms of having resources, it has not been adding value to the products it produces.

He appealed to the public to attend the event for them to see for themselves the type of products that Zambian manufacturers were producing.

Mr Kabaghe has also expressed happiness with Government’s positive response on some of the requests made by manufacturers in the 2013 national budget.

He said this was one way forward in moving the country towards industrialization.

New Thinking, New Living

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”
(Mark 2:22, NKJV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Are you ready for increase? Are you ready to go to the next level, spiritually, physically and emotionally? Many times, people hear the truth that God has more in store, and something resonates on the inside. Their spirit comes into agreement with God; but often times, their natural mind will try to talk them out it. Thoughts will come like, “It’s not going to happen for you. You’re not going to have a great year. You know what the economy is like.” Or, “You’re never going to get well. You saw what the medical report said.” “You’re never going to get married. You’ve been single so long.”

Friend, those are the old wineskins or the old way of thinking that you have to get rid of. This is a new season. What’s happened in the past is over and done. You may have been through some disappointments, you may have tried and failed, or things didn’t work out. That’s okay. God is still in control. It’s time to get a new vision for your life. It’s time to open yourself to a new way of thinking so that you can receive all the blessings God has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in heaven, today I choose to get rid of old wineskins. I choose to release old thinking, old habits, and anything that would keep me from Your best. Strengthen me by Your Spirit so that I can live my life in a way that pleases You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Kabimba has formed cartel to attack GBM- Siakalima

Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba
Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba

Special advisor to UPND president Douglas Siakalima has accused Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba of forming a cartel within the PF to turn against Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba.

Mr. Siakalima alleges that Mr. Kabimba, who is also Justice Minister, is trying to shield Post newspapers Editor-in- Fred Mmembe and the Nchito brothers over the DBZ debt.

In an interview with QFM News, Mr. Siakalima says the misunderstanding between the two top party officials only show how confused and disorganized the ruling Patriotic Front is.

He says it is surprising to note how it was quickly reported that PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba had been cleared by the ACC whereas Mr Mwamba, who is also defence minister had been found with a case to answer over his corruption allegations.

Mr. Siakalima states that he knew from the announcement of the investigations that the Anti Corruption commission (ACC) would come up with inconsiderate outcomes.

He notes that it is not healthy for the country to be getting reports from the press that only one of the two cabinet ministers is corrupt without the ACC giving an official statement.

Mr. Siakalima has since challenged the ACC to come out in the open and tell the nation the outcome of their investigations into the allegations against the two Ministers.

Minister accuses HH and Nevers Mumba of misleading opposition MPs

FILE: UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and MMD leader Nevers Mumba talks to journalists after Hichilema’s court appearance

Western Province minister Obvious Mwaliteta has accused opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his MMD counterpart Nevers Mumba of giving wrong advice to the opposition parliamentarians.

Mr. Mwaliteta said that there is no rationale in the decision by the MPs to walk out of parliament adding that opposition legislators need to be reminded that they have a duty to represent their electorates in a more responsible manner.

He added that one thing that the opposition needs to understand is that government is not run by individuals but that all the ministries had an input in the formation of the 2013 budget.

Mr. Mwaliteta added that the opposition is trying to be copy cats of the PF in opposition but that they lack issues unlike the PF that brought out issued based criticism while in opposition.

Mr. Mwaliteta was speaking to QFM news in an interview.

Yesterday, Mr Hichilema charged that the 2013 national budget will not respond to the needs of Zambians. Mr. Hichilema cited the allocation of K 1.8 trillion to the agriculture sector as minimal. He also described as a joke allocation of K300 billion kwacha to the Food Reserve Agency.

And on tourism Mr. Hichilema said that though government considered the sector to be a pillar of economic growth only K63.8 billion had been allocated to the sector which he describes as a drop in the ocean.

Mr. Hichilema also raised concern on the increased borrowing as opposed to increased revenue collection.

On the political scene, Mr. Hichilema expressed confidence that the opposition will win the Mufumbwe parliamentary seat. The UPND leader said that he would personally go to Mufumbwe and campaign for MMD’s Stanford Mulusa.

He said his party did not want to field a candidate but opted to support MMD in the spirit of strengthening the opposition in parliament.

Mr. Hichilema added that his party members have been advised to rally behind Mulusa’s candidature.

MMD accusations baseless-Kabimba

PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba
PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba

Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Winter Kabimba has refuted claims by the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) that the ruling party is using underhand methods to hoodwink voters into voting for its candidate in the Mufumbwe parliamentary bye-election.

Mr. Kabimba told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka yesterday that the PF wants to win the bye elections in a transparent and accountable manner, saying the accusations are baseless.

He said if the MMD feel they have no chances of winning the by-election, they should tell the voters instead of raising lies to disrupt the voter’s attention on making a right choice of a candidate.

He said it is not true that the PF has used the payments to farmers for their maize as a strategy to hoodwink farmers in order to get votes adding that paying of farmers for their grain has always been a government program that should not be politicized.

He said government will continue paying farmers their money as they sold their maize to government.

Mr. Kabimba has, however, stated that as party Secretary General he does not know of a businessman named Shawi Fawaz who is alleged to have been sponsoring the parties’ alleged violence acts in Mufumbwe.

Meanwhile, North Western Province Police Commissioner Eugene Sibote has described the political atmosphere in Mufumbwe as peaceful.

Mr. Sibote told ZANIS in a telephone interview that it was sad that information is being manufactured to insinuate incidences that the police have not come across.

Reacting to a statement from Mufumbwe MMD campaign manager Newton Samakayi, Mr. Sibote said it was not true that the police have been reluctant to react to violence acts allegedly being perpetrated by the PF but was quick to act on the opposition.

He said police in Mufumbwe have only recorded one incident that happened when MMD members reported that they were attacked but later refused to take the police to the scene of the alleged violence so that police could establish the truth.

He said the Mufumbwe by-election campaigns have been peaceful adding that all parties contesting the by-election have conducted their campaigns in a peaceful manner.

And commenting on the chopper that landed in Kalengwa and raised suspicion of malpractices, Mr. Sibote said the only plane that landed in Kalengwa on October 11, this year was a chopper that carried Vice President Guy Scott when he went to witness the filing nominations by candidates in Mufumbwe.

He said Mufumbwe has got no air strip that can accommodate the size of chopper that the Vice President had used.

Movement for Multiparty Democracy in Mufumbwe have accused the ruling Patriotic Front party of using underhand methods to hoodwink voters in the forthcoming by-election.

MMD Mufumbwe Campaign Manager Newton Samakayi has told ZANIS in a statement that the Patriotic Front party has sponsored violence through Shawi Fawzi because they are not prepared for the by-election.

Mr. Samakayi further stated that the era of deceit belonged to the 2011 adding that the time for realism has come to North Western Province.

He further said people of North Western Province will not entertain lies as they deserved to be part of the wide spectrum of the development process of the country.

Mr. Samakayi has further given the Zambia Police 24 hours to assume responsibility failure to which a citizen’s arrest shall be effected by his party on any one found wanting in violence.

Government to recover unretired imprest from the salaries of Public officers found guity

Government has banned foreign travel for public officers with outstanding unretired imprest from official trips.

According to guidelines issued by Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba and obtained by the Times of Zambia, public officers with outstanding imprest from their previous foreign travel shall not be permitted to undertake trips abroad until they retire the imprest.

“Imprest not retired within two working days of the officers return shall be recovered through the payroll the following month,” the guidelines further read.

The guidelines state that where foreign travel vote is exhausted, the controlling officer shall not vary funds from other programmes.

Recently Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda told Parliament that Government has approved policy changes aimed at eliminating the abuse of imprest by public officers and that it would fearlessly pursue the perpetrators of fraud to safeguard funds for national development.

Mr Chikwanda said the Government had approved the public financial management strategy whose objective was to improve accountability and managing of public resources.

“The PF Government will continue to fearlessly and aggressively pursue perpetrators of fraud so that public resources are safeguarded and utilised for their intended objectives and for the purpose of meeting the aspirations of our people.

“I wish to reiterate that our Government remains committed to serving our people and ensuring that we improve the quality of their lives through corrupt free, local and central Government establishments,” Mr Chikwanda said.

According to the specific guidelines in travelling on duty outside Zambia, Mr Yamba stated that controlling officers must ensure that travel abroad is absolutely necessary and in line with current programmes of respective ministries, provinces and spending agencies.

The guidelines state that officers travelling abroad on duty should use the most direct route and no transit allowance shall be paid to officials travelling on direct routes when there is no stop over.

Further, requests for travel abroad by officers from respective ministries shall be approved by controlling officers.

“Controlling officers shall also approve authority to travel abroad for Chief Executives of Spending Agencies under their supervision.

Requests from Permanent Secretaries, equivalent and above shall be approved by the Secretary to the Cabinet,” the guidelines read.

Authority for accountable imprest fro Ministers must be obtained from the President or Secretary to the Treasury’s office for other officers.

Miyanda is chocking with envy at the realization that Sata is President of Zambia-Shamenda

73

HERITAGE Party president Brigadier-General Godfrey Miyanda

Acting Information and Broadcasting Services Fackson Shamenda has charged that Heritage Party leader Godfrey Miyanda’s “rantings” over the Patriotic Front (PF) Government’s one year in power is an indication that the former Republican Vice-President is still injured, bitter about and chocked by the victory.

Reacting to Brig Gen Miyanda’s assessment of the PF Government’s one year reign which he recently described as a joke, Mr Shamenda said it was clear from the Heritage Party leader’s statement that he had for a long time considered himself as a far much better leader than President Michael Sata.

“That is why President Sata’s ascendance to power a year ago definitely must have chocked General Miyanda whose political fortunes have seriously dwindled over the years.

“It is clear from his rantings that General Miyanda is still injured and bitter about the PF’s victory. His tone in the statement is that of bitterness and frustration. General Miyanda is failing to come to terms with the fact that Michael Chilufya Sata is now Head of State,” he said.

Mr Shamenda admitted that it might be true that the PF Government had not done everything to the expectations of the citizenry, but that describing its one year in power as a joke was malicious and out of order.

“In fact, it is General Miyanda’s statement which can rightly be said to be a joke, bad one for that matter as it cannot attract laughter from the readers because objective Zambians can attest to the fact that though the sailing of the PF boat has not been without challenges, a lot of good things have been achieved for the country,” Mr Shamenda said.

Mr Shamenda added that it was not shocking to see Gen Miyanda being bitter against “some objective leaders” like National Restoration Party (NAREP) leader Elias Chipimo and his Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) counterpart Edith Nawakwi.

He observed that Mr Chipimo and Ms Nawakwi were criticizing and praising Government when it was due, saying that was how it ought to be.

“To suggest that nothing has been achieved in the last one year by the PF Government is being economic with the truth.

“We are aware that General Miyanda’s rantings against the PF Government are because he is chocking with envy at the realization that Mr Michael Chilufya Sata is the President of the Republic of Zambia, but in all presidential races he (Gen Miyanda) has only managed to harvest devastating losses,” he said.

Mr Shamenda said the nation was aware that Gen Miyanda was synonymous with so many concepts, citing the Village Concept, in a bid to convince them he was the only man “capable of being their savior”, but that the citizenry had always viewed him merely as an “armchair”
critic.

“Perhaps General Miyanda is viewing the PF Government’s one year in power from his simplistic Village Concept which every right thinking Zambian has failed to appreciate.

“In his desperation to win votes, he has even tried to sell himself as a man of God, but that again did not earn him the necessary votes to see him into State House. Clearly, this is a General who has tried everything, but all what he has touched has failed,” he said.

Mr Shamenda wondered if the Heritage Party had followers or it was still in existence, adding that he was hopeful that Gen Miyanda would heed the warning from chief registrar of societies Clement Andeleki of de-registering non-performing political parties which only resurfaced during elections and go into “slumber” afterwards.

The Labour Minister further charged that it was a known fact that Gen Miyanda had allegedly been deserted by most of the members of his party thereby leaving him a “lonely man” in the Heritage Party.

“For a man of such credentials as General Miyanda, it will do him good to keep quiet and reflect on his own failures,” he said.

Gen Miyanda was recently said the one year PF rule was a joke besides welcoming Mwandi MMD Member of Parliament (MP) Michael Kaingu’s decision to tear President Sata’s opening speech to Parliament.

Nothing sinister about formation PF Company Ilunda Chalo Investments – Veep

35
Vice President Guy Scott
Vice President Guy Scott

Vice President Guy Scott says there is nothing wrong for the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to form a company.

ZANIS reports that Dr. Scott said in Parliament today that all past ruling parties had companies which they were running to raise funds.

Dr. Scott said UNIP and the MMD had companies which they ran and that PF’s Ilunda Chalo Investment was one just like those.

He stressed that the company was formed in good faith to help the party raise funds for its operations.

“This is not the first time a political party in Zambia has ever established and formed a firm. UNIP and MMD had theirs and there is nothing sinister for PF to form Ilunda Chalo Investment,” Dr. Scott said.

He cited that MMD run MOFED, private firm which it run for many years as an example.

Dr. Scott, who is also Lusaka Central Member of Parliament (MP), dismissed assertions that the PF was likely to embezzle government funds to pump into the company.

The Vice President was responding to a question by MMD Mafinga MP, Catherine Namugala who allegedly accused the PF of forming a company to siphon money from Government coffers to fund its operations.

This was during the 30-minute Vice President’s question time in Parliament.

PF General Secretary Winter Kabimba this week clarified that the Ilunda Chalo Investment would partner with individuals and other companies to invest in areas such as mining, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development, consultancy and many other areas to raise resources for the ruling party, PF.

And Dr. Scott has disclosed that Government is the process of engaging an investor to take over the running of Kawambwa Tea Company in Kawambwa District in Luapula province.

The Vice President said the named investor would be engaged on a 10-year period.

Dr. Scott said Government is not aware of the repossession of the Factory from a named Zimbabwean firm but stated that Government is saddened by the fact that the company has not paid its workers wages for one-year.

Dr. Scott was responding to a question raised by PF Lupososhi MP Bwalya Chungu who wanted to know whether or not government wanted to repossess the firm to protect the workers from untold misery.

Boxing: Can Catherine Phiri Deliver An un-Forget-able Show?

12

Teenage female boxing prospect Catharine Phiri takes a deep plunge when she fights Nathalie Forget of Canada in a bantamweight title fight at Government Complex on Saturday in Lusaka.

It is hard to believe that at 19 and armed with just four professional fights, the Phiri camp have decided take a big gamble to dive into the deep end on this one.

Phiri has one knockout with the rest decisions from four fights since making her debut in May last year against Esther Chalwe whom she beat on split points.

It will certainly be a battle of ages against Forget who is almost 20 years Phiri’s senior at 38.

Forget is a late comer to boxing with just seven fights to her name with four wins and three defeats as she prepares for her first fight outside North America.

She arrives in Zambia on the back of a unanimous decision loss to Rosie Thomas this past May.

“I don’t feel old. My physical abilities will not fail me,” Forget said.

“I am in good shape, it’s going to be a good fight and I am confident of victory.

“I won’t be intimidated by the crowd, although I don’t know Catharine well and I have never seen her fight.”

Forget should also prove an interest opponent to Phiri in this 10 round contest that will test the home girl against the Canadian who has never been knocked out.
