Bittersweet Poetry : Poems of the week by Nabisa Chibuye ,Mwangwa Prince Zombe ,Pamela Sinkamba , Luka Mwango

6

Enjoy some poems to start your week.

ALL THE WORLD IS A STAGE by Luka Mwango

All the world’s a stage/

People trapped in life’s cage/

Authenticity swallowed by society’s perception/

People are now clones of the majority’s election/

Told what to wear/

Told how to think/

Told what to eat/

Told who to love/

Yet under the illusion of freedom/

All the world’s a stage/

We play roles better than Hollywood/

Afraid to be shun/

From our true selves we run/

Academy award winners in the art of fallacies/

Facades the economic currencies/

On the set of life we dance to the tune/

Magazines our costume designers/

Television our make-up artist/

Music our talent agent/

And Media our director/

Lights, camera, action/

The lifeless drones are ready to act the fiction/

All the life’s a stage/

Now the church’s joined in on the exploit/

Trying to reduce the Holy spirit into tradition’s rot/

Putting God in a box to suite their self-delusions/

If it doesn’t concern their talents then it isn’t spiritual/

So the musician thrive and the lyricists feel minimal/

Slain in the spirit but sometimes it’s just emotional/

“We need the melody to feel heavenly”/

But last time I checked the all-sufficient word came without a tune/

Pharisee Religion is an act of rules/

That forgets the God that rules/

But pleases stupid fools/

All the world’s a stage/

Yep, we not on the same page/

For Jesus took off my make-up/

For Grace undressed me of life’s masks/

For the Holy Spirit told be authenticity/

Was the fulfillment of prophecy/

Because diversity is the divine currency/

IF I WAS HIS IPAD by Pamela Sinkamba

My man comes home, with him a new ipad,

Costly was it but willing was he to make spend,

On the thing he says meets quality of his fad,

Rather to throw away so much for him to blend.

And I wonder, can he so much spend on me or blend in with me?

I sit close by and watch as he turns on his i-pad,

Softly caressing it with eyes so shining bright,

Like a boy he smiles as the thing makes him glad,

So much for the gadget that raised him to flight,

And I wait for that caress too, hoping I can make him glad.

At midnight am sleepless from the light of the ipad,

My man still touching and feeling the smooth screen,

His mind engrossed, doesn’t see me genuinely mad,

If another hour goes then he should hear me scream,

And yet I look on wishing he could feel my smooth skin.

It is morning, as my man sleeps I look closely at the ipad,

The gadget that now holds the most special place,

Oh, how you have taken my royal space?

With an envious flicker could’ve dashed it with a bat,

And then I realise he will soon grow weary of the useless ipad!

DARK LIGHT by Mwangwa Prince Zombe

Dark Light

Caught between the spirits and graves

The decomposed hearts start to rise

A regretful martyr; loves not worth life

Signs of a serene smile mocking thy heart

A monk bound by passion; chained by flame

Repulsive beauty inflicting to my soul

Inculcated pain swiftly blended with adore

Sinful nightmares ended in pleasure

Pools of blood; the consequences of love

Contagious poison fills thy heart with emptiness

Life’s a paradox in which I strive

In this darkness that you set afire

Since in this fight I truimph to lose; an oxymoron

For your spontaneous fondness is hardly won.

MY by Nabisa Chibuye

My thefts,

My nakedness,

What I have always known to be wrong

I now rightfully embrace.

You were here,

You walked where I am walking,

You graced my town,

You loved my friends.

I heard you sleep,

I saw you breath.

I held your hand

And buried my face in your neck.

My love,

My ruin,

My shame,

My end.

The Barotse Royal Establishment in Libonda Palace has expressed concern at the slow pace of construction works at Libonda High School.

Speaking through Acting Muleta (Ngambela) at her Palace when Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao paid a courtesy call on him yesterday, Chieftainess Mboanjikana wondered why construction works on the K36 billion high school were slow.

And China Jiangxi Project Manager Duan Xuwei said the change in the school plan had caused the delay in the construction works.

Mr. Xuwei said the company was currently waiting for a new school plan from the Ministry of education that will only be ready by December this year.

He however assured Her Royal Highness that the works will speed up once the new plan is availed to the contractor who will also ensure that the school is completed within the stipulated period.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao has pledged commitment to ensuring that developmental projects being constructed by Chinese companies in Western Province are of good quality and will be completed within the stipulated time.

The Chinese Ambassador is in Western Province to inspect developmental projects constructed by Chinese companies.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao says the world is a global village where developed countries should support developing ones like Zambia.

Ambassador Yuxiao said this when he called on Western Province Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala at his office today.

He noted that economic activities like agriculture and fishing can yield positive results if the local people made the best use of land, adding that doing so will help grow the economy of the province.

Ambassador Yuxiao added that he is happy to note that there is transparency and accountability of materials in Chinese companies engaged to do development projects in the province.

Meanwhile, Western Province Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala said the Chinese Government should not tire, but instead continue working with the Zambian government so that the country advances to a high level in technology advancement.

KK consents to burying Betty Kaunda in Lusaka-Kaweche

First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda’s Son Kaweche Kaunda at the Funeral House

BURIAL plans of Betty Kaunda took yet another twist yesterday, when her husband Kenneth Kaunda decided that she will be buried in Lusaka instead of Chinsali.

Dr Kaunda’s son, Kaweche, said his father made the ‘difficult’ decision to change the venue of his wife’s burial place after extensive discussions with close family members.

“We expressed concerns regarding our mother resting in Chinsali,” Kaweche told the Daily Mail without elaborating.

“I can now tell you that after a comprehensive look into the matter and serious discussions…the old man consented to one thing – that his beloved wife will be buried here in Lusaka, close to him,” Kaweche said.

Efforts are also being made by the family to see whether the statesman can give them consent to bury his wife in his absence, in a bid to reduce the stress and exhaustion that got him admitted to hospital last Friday.

Mama Betty Kaunda, 83, will be buried at the family residence in the State Lodge area, according to a tentative family plan.

The announcement came just before acting Secretary to the Cabinet Rowland Msiska announced the extension of the period of national mourning of the former First Lady to this Friday from yesterday.

“President Sata has extended the period of national mourning which was declared in honour of Mama Betty, for five days ending Friday September 28, 2012 when burial will take place at 10:00 hours.

During this period, all flags will continue to fly at half-mast and activities of an entertainment nature should be postponed or cancelled,” Dr Msiska said.

Dr Msiska said international sports events will be held as scheduled and will follow international standard practice of observing a minute of silence while sportsmen and women must wear black armbands.

“In the meantime, the first president Dr Kaunda continues to receive treatment at the University Teaching Hospital and has made considerable progress,” Dr Msiska said.

Wife to Zambia’s gallant freedom fighter, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe says the death of Mama Betty Kaunda is a lesson to all the couples that there is need to persevere in marriage.

Speaking in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today, Mrs Chilufya Kapwepwe said people should learn something from the Kaundas how they lived as a wife and a husband.

Mrs Kapwepwe said Mama Betty Kaunda passed through difficult times especially during the liberation time but managed to put together the family and loved her husband even more.

She said Mama Betty Kaunda contributed greatly to Zambia’s struggle for independence adding that this is the reason why she was known by many people as Mama Betty Kaunda, the mother of the nation.

“Mama Betty Kaunda persevered during the liberation time and after independence because she was a committed woman and mother with a heart for her family and mankind in general” said Mrs Kapwepwe.

Mrs Kapwepwe said the services of Mama Betty Kaunda will be missed by many people because she did touched many lives.

Mrs Kapwepwe prayed to God to give the Kaunda family comfort during this trying moment.

And Dr Kenneth Kaunda’ s nephew, David Kaunda said the decision to burry Betty Kaunda at Lubwa mission is a welcome move because that is what the family back home wanted.

Mr Kaunda told ZANIS at Shambalakale farm today that the Kaunda family wants to be buried in Chinsali, their native place.

He also wished the first republican president quick recovery so that his wife can finally be put to rest.

The burial of Mama Betty Kaunda who died on Wednesday last week in Harare, Zimbabwe whilst visting her daughter has been postponed because of the poor health of the first republican President Dr Kaunda.

The burial of Mama Betty Kaunda, 84, is expected to take place at Lubwa mission in Chinsali district of Muchinga Province on a date to be announced soon.

In confirming the postponement of the burial of Mama Betty Kaunda, Muchinga Province Minister Malozo Sichone advised all the mourners who were planning to travel to Chinsali to wait until Cabinet Office advises on the new burial date.

Mr Sichone also advised the mourners to ensure that they carry enough stocks of fuel because there is no filling station in Chinsali and that the area has also inadequate lodges and guests houses and the mourners should either spend their night in Mpika or Isoka.

Mama Betty Kaunda leaves behind 8 children, 30 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Zambia and Malawi to swarp prisoners

10

The Zambia Prisons Commissioner has disclosed that 12 Malawian nationals, currently serving their sentences in Zambia will be transferred back to their country, while 13 Zambian nationals will come back home and serve the remainder of their sentences.

Commissioner, Percy Chato said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Eastern Province Permanent Secretary in Chipata today.

Mr Chato said Zambia and Malawi need to enhance corporation in various sectors and share the best practices.

He noted that the two sister countries entered into this mutual agreement on 29th September, 2009 in Kabwe by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on reformation programs, training and transfer of prisoners among others.

Mr Chato explained that the MOU encompasses programs such as social, spiritual and education working together as a simple strategy to achieve certain goals.

Speaking at the same event, Eastern province PS Hlobopha Nkunika observed that even after crossing the Malawi border into Zambia, there is no significant change in the geographical and social conditions for the prisoners.

Mr Nkunika said this situation speaks volumes over the long history of cordial relations that the two countries have cultivated and continued to harness.

He observed that it gives the Zambian government much encouragement and stands ready to adopt and domesticate international instruments and setting up regional mechanisms that foster improved welfare of prison inmates.

Mr Nkunika explained that the ceremonious event that has just been witnessed is truth of the resolution of the Joint Permanent Commission meetings between the two governments that led to the two Prisons Services drafting the MOU on reformation programs.

He noted that the ceremony is a practical testimony of the commitment between the two governments to lead the other member states in the region towards the paradigm shift in the management of prisons.

Mr Nkunika urged the Malawian and Zambian citizens who served various sentences in the two countries to serve the remaining sentences in their home countries.

Meanwhile, Malawian Acting Chief Commissioner Kennedy Nkhoma, appealed to the prisoners not to be over zealous to the point of abusing the opportunity they have been accorded to serve in their countries of origin.

Eurobond was PF idea, we didn’t inherit anything positive from the MMD-Kabimba

PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba
PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba

PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has made an astonishing claim that the successful $750 million Eurobond was an idea of the Patriotic Front government.

Featuring on the Sunday Interview television programme on ZNBC, Mr. Kabimba said the issuance of the Eurobond was one of the major achievements of the PF in its one year in office.

But records at the Ministry of Finance confirm that the plan to launch Zambia’s maiden Eurobond was conceived as far back as 2006 when Ngandu Magande was Minister of Finance.

However Mr. Kabimba said the Eurobond was conceived and implemented by the PF adding that no such brilliant ideas could come out of the MMD.

When pressed further by programme Presenter Franklin Tembo Jr, Mr. Kabimba emphatically claimed that the Eurobond was the PF’s idea.

“The MMD could not possibly come up with such nice ideas, we didn’t inherit anything positive from the MMD. We had to think of new and better ways of raising capital for massive infrastructure projects,” Mr. Kabimba said.

At this point, Tembo Jr reminded Mr. Kabimba that the PF is still implementing the Multi Facility Economic Zones (MFEZ) which was another idea of the MMD. [pullquote]We didn’t say we will create jobs in 90 days, show me a clip in which Michael Sata or any senior PF official promise jobs in 90 days. You have a library here at ZNBC, show me a single clip saying PF will give jobs in 90 days[/pullquote]

“Look Franklin, these MFEZ were just on paper but now the PF is implementing them. MMD did not start and finish anything, the PF is actualizing all its plans,” Mr. Kabimba added.

Mr. Kabimba who is also Justice Minister further claimed that the PF is on course in creating jobs for the young unemployed people.

“We didn’t say we will create jobs in 90 days, show me a clip in which Michael Sata or any senior PF official promise jobs in 90 days. You have a library here at ZNBC, show me a single clip saying PF will give jobs in 90 days. What we said is that we will create enough jobs in the shortest time possible and we are on course.”

He said the recently launched Link Zambia 8000 road project will create around 24,000 jobs adding that new mines opening up are also expected to take in a lot of unemployed youths.

Keagan Mumba Admits U20 Deficiencies

Zambia Under-20 coach Keagan Mumba has admitted that he has a makeshift team.

This after witnessing his team battle to a 2-2 home draw against Mali in a 2013 African Youth Championship third round qualifier played at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday.

“This team is a makeshift team after most of our players graduated to the Under-23 team,” Mumba said.

Mumba admitted that defensively, the team had a lot of work to do before the return leg decider in Bamako on October 6.

“Especially at the back, they have to learn,” Mumba said.
However, Mumba said that Zambia was still very much in the hunt to qualify for the Algeria finals.

“If it was tennis I would have said duce advantage Mali but anything can happen in Mali,” he said.

Zambia must beat Mali in the return leg to ensure they qualify to the 2013 tournament to be hosted by Algeria in March.

United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has express disappointment at the decision by President Michael Sata to transfer the Road Development Agency (RDA) from the Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication to State House.

In a statement to Qfm new, Mr Hichilema says concentrating powers and responsibilities in the hands of the president is a recipe for bad governance and should not be allowed.

Mr. Hichilema explains that if President Sata is genuinely interested in strengthening the national capacity to effectively respond to the challenges of improving road networks, he should have strengthened capacity of RDA instead of centralizing the institution.

He fears that most road tenders will be given to those perceived to be politically correct and have access to the President at the expense of deserving contractors who may not have access to State House.

The UPND leader adds that this move is likely to breed corruption, nepotism and favoritism because the tender process is likely to be at the mercy of Presidential Decrees.

Mr. Hichilema has since demanded that the responsibilities and abilities of government service delivery agencies, be strengthened and later decentralized to Local Authorities with the necessary capacity building support as part of the devolution process.

He says Good Governance demands reposing of resources, powers and responsibilities in institutions that are closer to the people and can easily be held accountable.

Mr. Hichilema has since appealed to the Patriotic Front government not to continue paying lip service to the decentralization process but to demonstrate their willingness to devolve powers and resources to the lower organs of government.

Government says it will start replacing old equipment at government printers by next year.

Minister of Communication, Transport, Works and Supply Christopher Yaluma says the recapitalization of the government printers is most likely to be provided for in the 2013 budget.

Mr. Yaluma has said that government is committed to ensuring that it revamps the operations of government printers.

Mr. Yaluma said this when QFM news tried to inquire how far the government has gone with the recapitalization process of government printers.

The PF government had promised to ensure that government printers would recapitalize so that printing of election materials can be done locally.
