Response to Zambian Victory from around the world

Zambian soccer victory – an Israeli reponse

My enthusiastic congratulations on a magnificent vicory from an Israeli fan. Your team was disicplined, fit, creative and in brief, looked like champs and played like champs. You deserved to win -inspite of that heart stopping penalty that Drogma very conveniently kicked wide.

A fitting monument to the memory of the players who died in the tragic plane crash – and a brilliant example to Zambian youth who will learn from the dedication and hard work of the team that must have preceded this victory.

Keep it up Zambia

Congrats from the U.K

From Mirror Football UK

From South Africa winning the Rugby World Cup in 1995 to a Roger Milla-inspired Cameroon in Italia ’90, Africa has provided some the iconic moments in recent sporting history. Without doubt, the achievements of Zambia on Sunday night in winning the Africa Cup of Nations will be added to that list.

Thanks to the power of Twitter and Facebook, this was not only the most-watched Cup of Nations ever but also the most commented upon. When Sunday’s final entered its penalty shoot-out, social media networks were ablaze with people sharing their opinions on the likes of Chris Katongo and Rainford Kalaba. This Zambia team had a story to tell and people were listening to their inspiring message.

From the Sowetan

They represented Southern Africa with aplomb and duly made us proud. Every time a team from these shores beats anyone from west Africa, yours truly celebrates.

It was even sweeter because one very arrogant west African so-called football pundit had predicted a 4-0 pasting for the Copper Bullets by the the Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure-led Ivorians. He shall, as of now hopefully, forever keep his peace.

From Washinton Post

Many attributed the victory to an amazing team spirit from a crew that fielded only one international player.

Zambia were the underrated underdogs at the African tournament, much like their country, which boasts a thriving democracy, a less-traveled destination for African wildlife and the spectacular Victoria Falls — along with a booming copper industry that recently catapulted the country to the status of lower middle-income.

From Nigerian Former Head of State

“I am saddened by the absence of Nigeria but the message the Eagles have to derive from the Zambians is that one has to love his country and not put money first. Football is all about commitment and fighting spirit. Zambia played their hearts out for their nation in honour of their colleagues. Though many people felt that they would be overrun by the Ivoriens, I told a lawyer friend of mine that from what I saw of them in two or three matches, I said I have confidence they would give any team in Africa a run for their money.”

From the New York Times

In Zambia, a nation where soccer has always had a deep meaning for people, Stoppila Sunzu’s winning penalty late in the shootout set off wild celebrations.

Car horns and vuvuzelas blasted throughout the night in the capital of Lusaka, fans cloaked in the green and copper colors of the national team streamed into streets around the country, and schools closed for a self-declared national holiday.

From News Day Zimbabwe

The success by Zambia in the just-ended African Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea serves as a big lesson for the disorganised Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) in many ways.
Chipolopolo on Sunday made history by becoming the second southern African country to win the African Cup of Nations after South Africa in 1996. Zambia beat favourites Ivory Coast 8-7 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes.

South Africa won it at home, but Zambias victory is unique in that they won it away from home and it was a fitting tribute to members of the Zambian side who tragically perished in the ocean off Gabon in 1993.

From Mmegi Botswana

You see the Zambians represent my ideal team with limited resources. They are neither huge nor tall, but are as frail as Botswana players but hey they pack a lot of surprises.

They are swift when attacking; an obvious sign that they are playing to their strength and body structure. This is what I want to see happening with the Zebras….

Zambia has definitely shown us the way. Equally even the premier league in Zambia is no different from our league, but the team has shown us a trick or two.

From Nyatimes in Malawi

“This has given FAM hope that in football, success can be achieved if
you are committed, dedicated, have good tactics and are hard working.
Zambia who are our brothers have given us the courage that you do not
have to fear names but have self belief,” Nyirenda says in the
statement.

Fuel prices to drop by 30 p.c.

70

FUEL prices and those of other petroleum products will soon drop by as much as 30 per cent following a US$3.3 billion investment in a new oil pipeline and refinery to be erected in Ndola.

This comes after the signing of an agreement between a Zambian firm, Sub-Saharan Gemstone Exchange Industrial Park (SGE) of Ndola and Maysen & Borowski Group of Australia to construct the refinery and pipeline.

Zambia’s second refinery and the new pipeline running from Dar-es-Salaam to Ndola will see increased fuel production by an additional five million litres of fuel per day which it is projected would lead to a reduction of fuel prices in Zambia by 30 per cent. The new refinery will be using natural crude in its production process.

SGE and Maysen & Borowski Group of Australia signed the agreement in Ndola yesterday in the presence of Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Robert Sichinga.

Maysen & Borowski Group Manager for Finance and Corporate Services, Mathew Borowski who signed on behalf of his company, said the idea to invest in Zambia was mooted in October last year when Vice-President, Guy Scott and Mr Sichinga were in Australia for the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit.

The Group comprises five companies, dealing in corporate risk solutions and investment.

It operates in Australia, United States of America, Canada and Africa and is headquartered in Perth, Australia. The company’s establishment in Zambia is expected complement Indeni Petroleum Refinery output.

Mr Borowski said the project would create 13,000 jobs during construction and 5,000 jobs when the entire project, which will include a dry-port, warehouse and houses, was completed.

He said although Zambia was landlocked it was strategically located for investment and trade. Zambia has easy access to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa).

“The project will increase fuel production by five times and we also want to open up the Congo DR market,” he said.

He said the success of the petroleum refinery project would also create opportunities for other companies.

Mr Borowski said his company was also involved in tourism and would look at constructing mini hydro-power stations.

Zambia’s national consumption for diesel is pegged at more than one million litres while petrol stands at about 750 litres pay day.

SGE chairperson, Phesto Musonda said the refinery would be built at a cost of US$1.7 billion while the pipeline from Tanzania to Ndola would gobble up US $1.6 billion.

Mr Musonda said Zambia consumed 1.5 million litres of fuel per day and that the new refinery would be producing five million litres per day.

He said SGE was happy to partner with Maysen & Borowski Group because the petroleum refinery would come with a number of benefits besides the creation of thousands of jobs.

And Mr Sichinga said that the Government was mobilising investors and encouraging Public Private Partnerships (PPP).

He said he was impressed with the rate at which the plans for the refinery and pipeline project had progressed because it was only in October last year when the idea was discussed and already experts had assessed its viability.

The minister said foreign investors alone could not develop the country and that this was the reason the Government was encouraging Zambians to engage in partnerships.

He said that the liberalisation of the economy in the 1990’s cost Zambians a lot but that the country would re-look at what went wrong to create an impetus for economic growth.

A feasibility study would immediately start before construction commences at the former Ndola Copper Refinery in the industrial park of the industrial area.

UNHCR joins Africa Cup Victory celebration with donation to Lewanika General Hospital

4

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Zambia has officially handed over assorted goods to the Children and Female Wards at Lewanika General Hospital in Mongu.
The refugee community in Western Province prompted UNHCR to make the donation of assorted food and non food items to patients at the two wards in response to the recent African Cup victory by the Zambian Soccer team, the Chipolopolo.

The food and non food items were handed over today by the UNHCR Representative, Ms. Joyce Mends-Cole, to Lewanika General Hospital Superintendent, who officiated at the ceremony on behalf of the Government in Mongu, Western Province.

During the hand-over ceremony, Ms. Mends-Cole expressed UNHCR’s joy at the Africa Cup win and emphasized the fact that UNHCR is not a development agency, but tries to assist the local communities in refugee impacted areas, within its limited resources.

The UNHCR Representative expressed her gratitude to the people of Zambia in general and Western Province in particular for their hospitality and support to refugees over the years.
She also said the gesture was to express UNHCR’s appreciation to the people of Western Province and the Government of Zambia for the warm welcome and co-existence which continues to be accorded refugees.

“We thought it important to contribute to this institution – Lewanika General Hospital – which provides medical services to both the host community and the refugees.”

Lewanika General Hospital has over the years worked with UNHCR with regard to refugee patients referred to the institution from the Mayukwayukwa Refugee settlement.

Refugees are regularly referred from the Ministry of Health run clinics within the refugee settlement and are admitted to Lewanika General Hospital, where they are provided with the same health care as any other patient,” said Ms. Mends-Cole.

“We would like to thank the Lewanika General Hospital management for their continued co-operation with my office and the refugees. As issues of children and women are very close to our hearts, we chose to make this humble donation at these two wards for children and female patients to put a smile on their faces” said the UNHCR Representative.

The hand-over ceremony was witnessed by several UNHCR and hospital staff based in Mongu.

After the donation, the UNHCR Representative paid a courtesy call on the King of the Lozi, the Litunga, at the Limulunga Palace in Mongu.

LCC stops providing any more refuse bins to residential areas in Lusaka

Council Public Relations Officer, Henry Kapata

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has stopped providing any more refuse bins to residential areas in Lusaka and has since called on Community Based Enterprises (CBEs) to education the public on proper ways of disposing of garbage.

LCC Public Relations Officer Henry Kapata said it was not the intention of the council to put bins all over the city but to make people understand that the indiscriminate disposal of garbage was not allowed.

Mr. Kapata told ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday communities must be responsible with the way the dispose of their garbage and not rely on the local authority to provide bins.

He was reacting to complaints by some Community Based Enterprises (CBEs) which are collecting garbage in various communities.

Yesterday, a Waste Management Company of Lusaka’s Bauleni Compound complained that the lack of skip bins in the compound has led to the indiscriminately dumping of garbage in the compound.

The company also complained that the LCC has not heeded to appeals for it to distribute new skip bins to communities in the past three years.

Mr. Kapata however said it was the duty of the CBEs to educate people and bring awareness programmes on the dangers of indiscriminate dumping of garbage.

He urged the CBEs to seriously take their responsibility of making people understand the dangers of the indiscriminate dumping of garbage instead of requesting for more bins from the council.

Mr. Kapata said the number of bins that are distributed in different parts of the city depends on the population in a particular area.

He reiterated that the LCC will not give any extra bins to any area.

He said if the council distributes a lot of bins in the city, then Lusaka will be full of bins which will end up being vandalized by members of the public.

Mr. Kapata said the CBEs will not have the capacity to collect garbage from the skip bins if the bins are too many in the city.

NAREP urges Government to engage Southern Province Chiefs as UPND and MMD endorse chiefs’ stance on re-alignment

82
National Restoration Party (NAREP)president Elias Chipimo Jr

THE National Restoration Party (NAREP) has urged Government to engage chiefs and other stakeholders in Southern Province to resolve the controversy surrounding the realignment of Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi districts.

NAREP president Elias Chipimo said most people in the province feel ‘frustrated’ by Government’s decision to realign the two districts as they were not consulted on the matter.
Mr Chipimo said this on Tuesday when he featured on Let the People Talk programme on Radio Phoenix.

“Chiefs are custodians of customary land and I feel Government should have engaged them first on this matter,” Mr Chipimo said.

President Sata recently realigned Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi districts from Southern Province to Lusaka and Central Provinces respectively.

The decision has been opposed by some chiefs and other stakeholders in the province, who have vowed to block it.

Mr Chipimo said Government should not ‘ambush’ the people in the province by making decisions without consulting them.

“Do not make people feel frustrated on this matter. It is not too late for Government to engage interest groups to iron out burning issues,” Mr Chipimo said.

He said Government should erase the various ‘suspicions’ surrounding the re-aligning of the two districts by engaging in a consultative process.

Mr Chipimo said the relevant authorities should demonstrate to the people of Southern Province that there is nothing sinister about the realignment of the two districts.

“I also feel Government should have engaged the delimitation commission in this matter before making a decision because they are better placed to know which areas need to be re-aligned,” Mr Chipimo said.

And various stakeholders in Southern Province issued a communiqué on Tuesday in which they endorsed the chiefs’ stance against the transfer of Chirundu and Itezhi-tezhi districts to Lusaka and Central provinces respectively.

The stakeholders mainly from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and MMD announced the development in a communiqué read by consultative meeting organising committee chairperson Grave Muleya at Choma Sports Club.

Mr Muleya said the consultative meeting was in full support of traditional leaders who met last Friday and resolved not to support the realignment of Chirundu and Itezhi-Tezhi as they feel there was no consultation before the decision was made.

He said the transfer of the two districts to other provinces has some cultural, economic and geopolitical consequences which include the transfer of eight chiefdoms which are located in Chirundu and Itezhi-Iezhi.

Mr Muleya said the stakeholders have realised that the people concerned and affected by President Sata’s decision in the said districts were not consulted.

‘’We are determined to retain our culture within the confines of our geographical land space, which is the most important part of our heritage and culture. We are committed to pursuing this matter within the confines of the law and guaranteed fundamental freedoms and human rights,’’ said Mr Muleya.

The UPND was represented by its chairman for elections Ackson Sejani who was the guest of honour while the MMD sent its provincial chairperson Edgar Keembe.

Mukangas Urges Mopani To Sponsor Mighty

14

Mufulira’s Kantanshi Member of Parliament Yamfwa Mukanga has urged Mopani Copper Mines to consider giving full sponsorship to Division One North side Mufulira Wanderers.

Wanderers have never had tangible sponsorship since the privatisation of mines in the late 1990s.

Mukanga, who is also Transport and Communications Minister, said Mopani have a corporate social responsibility to sponsor the legendary club.

The MP stated that he would like to see Mopani set aside funds in its budget and help the struggling Shinde outfit.

He added that being a major company in Mufulira, Mopani should sponsor recreational activities to help the mining town rekindle its lost glory.

Mukanga hoped that Zambia’s triumph at the ended Africa Cup would also motivate corporate entities to sponsor sports activities in the country.

The win has also seen Zambia rise from 16th on the Caf rankings to number four.

2012 Africa Cup losing finalists Cote d’Ivoire stay top as Africa’s number one team on the Fifa rankings despite losing to Zambia 8-7 on post-match penalties after a scoreless draw at the end of 120 minutes of action.

Its too early to criticize realigment of districts – Magande

FORMER Minister of Finance and National Planning Ng’andu Magande
FORMER Minister of Finance and National Planning Ng’andu Magande

The National Movement for Progress says it is too early for it to criticize the realignment of districts by the Patriotic Front government.

NMP leader Ng’andu Magande says the party is still studying the decision by the government to realign districts in southern provinces.

Mr. Magande explains that his party will only be able to give a position once it has studied the decentralization position of the Patriotic Front government.

He has however stated that there is nothing wrong with some groupings, particularly the United Party for National development protesting against the decision the Government to realign districts.

He says it is provided for in the Zambian constitution for any member of society to protest, as long as it is done within the confines of the law.

Mr. Magande was speaking to QFM news in an interview.

And Southern Province minister, Miles Sampa says the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) lied to the nation when they said 19 chiefs in the province have opposed the re-alignment of Chirundu and Itezhi-Tezhi districts by President Michael Sata.

Mr Sampa has also disclosed that some chiefs in the province are bitter with UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema for ditching the pact with the Patriotic Front without consulting them.

Mr Sampa said Chief Mwanachingwala of Mazabuka district who was quoted as having attended the meeting in Choma has disassociated himself from the meeting.

He said chief Mwanachingwala has been unwell and has note moved out of the palace except when seeking medical attention in Lusaka.

Mr Sampa who has challenged the UPND to tell the nation why they elected to mislead the nation by presenting ghost names of chiefs who did not attend their politically motivated meeting said the statement attributed to the UPND has just exposed amount of hate for the PF government by UPND.

He said southern province has a total of 41 chiefs adding that a small fraction of chiefs who attended the Choma meeting which he doubted cannot speak for the rest of the chiefs that are in support of President Sata’s decision to re-align the districts.

Mr Sampa urged the UPND to stop using chiefs to challenge government on matters aimed at streamlining government operations.

And Chief Mwanachingwala’s sons, Mpimpa and Richard have advised the opposition UPND to respect the chief and avoid putting words into his mouth for their political gains.

Mpimpa urged the UPND to apologise to the chief and the royal family for putting his name into disrepute.

He said the family received the news about the ailing chief attending a meeting in Choma as a shock because the traditional ruler has never moved from the palace to attend to any meeting except going to the hospital for medical attention.

They said the issue of the President re-aligning the districts should be left to his government and not chief Mwanachingwala.

And Mr Sampa has disclosed that some chiefs in the province are bitter with UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema for ditching the pact with the Patriotic Front without consulting them.

He said chiefs told him that they are still bitter with Mr Hakainde’s conduct during the run up to the elections as this was going to be an opportunity for the people of the province to take an active part in the running of government.

Mr Sampa who was speaking when made a stop over in Mazabuka said chiefs complained to him that Mr Hakainde pulled out single handedly from the pact without consulting them while in Lusaka leaving them in a quandary.

Shortage of police officers during the welcoming of the Chipolopolo boys raises concern

Chipolopolo Boys display the AFCON Trophy on their way to the Showground in Lusaka amidst thousands of cheering fans

Hope for Human Rights Executive Director Smart Chanda has expressed worry over the shortage of police officers during the welcoming of the Chipolopolo boys at the Lusaka show grounds.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr Chanda said the police who were present at the show grounds during the celebrations were not enough to control the crowd.

Mr Chanda said that the police should have involved the Defence forces to beef up security and prevent the loss of one life and the casualties that were recorded during the celebrations.

He urged the police to be alert at all times especially during such celebrations in the country.

Mr Chanda has since appealed to government to make sure that the police prepare adequately before such national events takes place.

He has however thanked the Chipolopolo boys for bringing honor to the country by winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He said the AFCON win by the boys is a great achievement to the country and members of the public should celebrate it responsibly to avoid mishaps.

Meanwhile Mr Chanda has called upon all opposition political parties in the country to stop criticizing the President over the alignment of Districts.

He said the alignment of districts is a good move done in good faith and it should be supported by everyone who understands decentralization.

Mr Chanda said the alignment of districts will bring development to the people involved and therefore it should not be criticized.

He has urged the opposition parties not to criticize government anyhow but to give credit where it is necessary.

Mr Chanda has advised the leaders of the opposition parties to set a good example to the people by showing responsibility in what they do and say.

Kwacha depreciation worries economist

70
Mulungushi University Vice-Chancellor and Economist Oliver Saasa (L)

Renowned Economist Professor Oliver Saasa has called on government to consider putting in place mitigation measures aimed at strengthening the local currency, the Kwacha, which has been sliding against major foreign currencies.

Prof. Saasa said government, through the Bank of Zambia, should inject resources into the country’s economy from its reserves in order to stabilize the local currency.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the loss of value which the Kwacha has recorded over the past few months has a negative effect on production and expansion of many sectors of the country’s economy.

He said this development threatens all the economic fundamentals of the currently hence the need to urgently institute measures against the sliding of the local currency.

Prof. Saasa attributed the depreciation of the Kwacha to the scarcity of the foreign exchange currencies such as United States dollar on the market.

He said the nervousness that characterized the investment market before and after the September 20, 2011 tripartite elections would also be a contributing factor.

The Zambian Kwacha has continued losing value against major currencies. The Kwacha has now gone beyond K5,200 against one US dollar.

According to the latest statistics released by the Bank of Zambia yesterday, February 14, one US dollar was now fetching between K5,245 and K5,265 while a Euro is now was selling at between K6, 904 and K6,932.

The Central bank figures showed that one British Pound was between K8, 244 and K8, 277 while the South African Rand was selling between K676 and K683.

According to the Central bank, one US Dollar was costing between K5, 136.89 and K5, 156.89; one British Pound was trading between K7, 947.28 and k7, 979.77 while the South African Rand was getting between K644.81and K647.73 about three weeks ago. The Euro was trading between K6, 633.78 and K6, 661.15.

Candidates eye for victory in Msanzala bye-election

7

http://www.lusakatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ecz.jpeg

Candidates contesting for the Msanzala seat in Petauke district have conclude their campaign for tomorrow’s by-election.

All the candidates have expressed confidence of winning the seat in tomorrow’s contest.

ZNBC reports that Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Joseph Lungu said he has done enough ground work to retain the seat which he held as an independent candidate.

MMD Election Chairperson Gabriel Namulambe said the party’s candidate Peter Daka stands a better chance of winning the election because of his experience as past Member of Parliament (MP).

And Independent candidate Usuman Maumba said he will have an easy victory because he has campaigned enough to the electorates.

However, UNIP candidate Shaderick Banda could not be reached in person as his phone was switched off.

The Msanzala bye-election fell vacant following the resignation of Col Lungu as an independent MP and joined the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) during a public rally at Nyampande Basic School in Petauke in December last year.

Some civil society organizations and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) condemned the resignation of Col Lungu, saying it has caused a by-election that would be costly.

Zambia National team now ranked 43rd in the world and 4th in Africa

Zambia National Team with the trophy

The Africa Cup of Nations has left its mark on the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, with Zambia, who won first continental title in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, climbing to 43rd.

This is the first time since February 2001 that the side, coached by Herve Renard, have made it into the top 50.

The Chipolopolo are now ranked 4th on the continent behind Ivory Coast,Ghana and Algeria.

The rankings were released today by FIFA.

Despite losing on penalties in the decider, Cote d’Ivoire 15th, remain Africa”s highest-positioned team. Aside from the two finalists, third-placed Mali 44th, up 25 places as well as host nations Gabon 45th, up 46 places and Equatorial Guinea 110th, up 41 places have made considerable ground.

Changes are also to be seen in the top ten, with Germany 2nd, up 1 place bumping the Netherlands out of second place to take up position behind Spain, and Portugal 6th, and Italy 8th also making headway. Denmark have moved into the top ten (10th, up 1), pushing Argentina down to 11th.

All of these changes in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Ranking are due to the devaluation of matches from previous years, as no top-ten team has played a match in the last month.

Shamenda castigates HH for allegedly misleading and inciting chiefs in Southern Province

113
Information Broadcasting and Tourism Minister Fackson Shamenda (r)

THE Government has castigated United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema for allegedly misleading and inciting chiefs in Southern Province over the realignment of Chirundu and Ithezi-Thezi districts.

Chief Government spokesperson Fackson Shamenda said in Lusaka yesterday that the decision to realign the two districts was for administrative purposes meant to enhance development in the two areas.

“Why are we only having problems with Southern Province, this has been done in other provinces as well. Why is this leader who wants to become a national president only concerned about the area where he comes from?” he asked.

He said it was wrong for the opposition leader to raise anxieties of the traditional leaders for political expedience.

Mr Shamenda, who is Information, Broadcasting and Labour minister, said the realignment of the two districts was meant to enhance efficient service delivery and development for the benefit of the people.

[pullquote]“Why are we only having problems with Southern Province, this has been done in other provinces as well. Why is this leader who wants to become a national president only concerned about the area where he comes from?” he asked.[/pullquote]

“All the decisions that we take as a Government are in the interest of the Zambian people. Let us be sober in the way we discuss these issues. The boundaries are not being re-demarcated, we are just realigning these areas, and this does not affect the chiefs,” he said.

He said the realignment was also meant to ensure the districts became more productive.

But when contacted for comment Mr Hichilema said the chiefs were not children who could be incited by anybody.

“Mr Shamenda must know that the people he is talking about are not children. They are the custodians of the land on behalf of the people.

This arbitrary decision by President (Michael) Sata has been rejected.

“Land issues are very sensitive and these are the issues that cause war. I totally agree with the position of the chiefs and I am ready to be arrested. I have already challenged the Home Affairs Minister (Mr Kennedy Sakeni) to arrest me. Let them not intimidate people.

“Today (yesterday) there is a meeting in Choma by the people. Is he saying that it is me also inciting the people?” he said.

The opposition leader said it was wrong for Mr Shamenda to say that he only spoke about Southern Province when he had also complained about Muchinga and some problems in North-Western Province.

He said the Government should reconsider its position on the realignment of Chirundu and Itezhi-Tezhi districts.

The Southern Province Royal Foundation, an organisation for the traditional leaders in the province, has opposed the decision by the Government to realign Chirundu and Itezhi -Tezhi.

The resolution was made after a meeting that was held in Choma last week.

The opposition leader has since urged the players to use the money wisely.

Mr. Hichilema has further commended the gallant Chipolopolo boys for having carried the Zambian flag high at the just ended African cup of Nations were they were crowned Champions of African football.

He says Zambia’s lifting of the Africa Cup has brought glory and honour to the nation.

Mr. Hichilema has since urged glowing tribute to the technical bench led Herve Renard for guiding the team to a resounding performance throughout the tournament.

Mr. Hichilema has also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during this time of celebrations.
