Nakonde Constituency opposition Patriotic Front (PF) parliamentary aspiring candidate Col. John Siame is dead.
Col. Siame, who is also former Zambia Army regional commander for Northern region, died this afternoon after collapsing at his Border Lodge in Nakonde Township.
ZANIS reports both family spokesperson Yireck Munyenyembe and PF district chairman James Singoyi have confirmed the death of Col. Siame in separate interviews.
Mr. Munyenyembe said he had prayers with Col. Siame at his lodge this morning and he looked very fine adding that he left him watching Rugby on television in the lounge at his lodge where he collapsed at about 12:30 hours.
He said Col. Siame unexpectedly collapsed today and was pronounced dead on arrival at Nakonde health centre.
And PF district chairman Singoyi said the untimely death of Col. Siame as a big shock to the opposition political party. He said his party has lost a great leader.
Mr. Singoyi told ZANIS that his party was currently making arrangements to inform the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) through the District Electoral Officer (DEO) Francis Nkhoma about Col. Siame ‘s demise.
And the MMD in Nakonde has sent a message of condolences to the opposition PF on the sudden death of its candidate for Nakonde constituency parliamentary seat.
MMD Nakonde constituency campaign coordinator Chris Banda said his campaign team in the Tuesday’s September 20 tripartite elections, has received the message of the passing on of Col. Siame with deep shock and sorrow.
Mr. Banda who is also MMD Northern Province provincial treasure said the MMD in Nakonde is wishing the family of Col. Siame and the PF, Gods guidance and comfort during this trying moment.
Four candidates had successfully filed in their nominations to contest the Nakonde constituency seat and they include late Siame for PF, Geroge Sinkala on MMD, Mannix Sichone on UPND and Kennedy Simbeye under UNIP ticket.
Zambia collected its second medal at the All Africa Games on Friday with victory in the chess event.
And the Judo team got off to the worse possible start in their campaign with two of the six-member contingent bowing out.
Daniel Jere won an individual silver in the chess tournament where Zamba finished 4th behind Angola on bronze, South Africa on silver and Egypt on gold in the team event.
Meanwhile back on the judo mat, Judokas Boaz Munyonga and Malama Mpilikisha have been ejected from All Africa Games in what is Zambia last interest at the All Africa Games before the curtains come down on Sunday.
Munyonga missed out on bronze after losing to Nigerian Jude Solomon in the 81 Kg class while Mpilikisha lost to Bernard Etoga of Cameroon in the 66 Kg class.
Zambia’s final medal hopes at the All Africa Games now lie in Mathews Mpunza and Joshua Kanjemba in the men’s judo event and Esther Sandu and Rita Tembo in their women’s judo event.
“Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers coach John Chella hopes to see his team turn the corner on Sunday in their battle for promotion.
The Shinde side, who are attempting to return to the top flight for the first time since 2005, have not won a game since mid-July have record three draws in seven games.
Mighty on Sunday travel to Kabwe to play fellow promotion rivals Prisons Leopards whom they beat 1-0 in the first leg last May.
“We had hiccup and we have sorted everything out and looking to start winning again,” Chella said.
Mighty are currently 4th with a game in hand on 39 points, 10 behind leaders Indeni after 25 games played.
Third placed Prison are two points ahead of Mighty heading into this match looking to improve on their 0-0 result away to Luanshya United last weekend.
“It will be a 50-50games,” said Prison’s coach Benjamin “Kawilo” Chilongo.
“We have to win this game at all costs to stay in contention for promotion.”
Meanwhile, leaders Indeni on 48 points visit mid-table Mufulira Blackpool at John Kachofa Stadium in Mufulira.

The Zambia Small Scale Farmers Network (ZSSF) has endorsed President Rupiah Bwezani Banda in next Tuesday’s tripartite Elections.
The Network says it has resolved to vote for President Banda as a way of rewarding the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) administration for its positive agriculture policy.
Network Coordinator Boyd Liambai said this in a statement released to ZANIS in Mongu yesterday.
Mr. Liambai said ZSSF has attributed the country’s maize bumper harvest during the last two farming seasons to President Banda’s efforts to incorporate several farmers in the Farmer’s Input Support Programme (FISP).
The Network which has 395,000 farmers is busy working with 10 Provincial Sensitisation Committees to ensure that 985,000 famers under the FISP vote for President Banda in the September 20th elections.
Mr. Liambai stated that the Network is indebted to Mr. Banda’s working policies aimed at improving the agriculture sector by increasing the number of farmers on the FISP.
He added that this is why the Zambia Small Scale Farmers Network in Western Province will support his workable agriculture policies which have also helped improve farmer’s lives in the country.
He said the Network is happy that Government has allocated about K600, 000,000 to 80 women farmers clubs in Western Province under the Women Empowerment from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
Mr. Liambai appealed to farmers countrywide to support the MMD government ‘s agriculture policies saying the opposition parties have no provision in their manifestos to support farmers.
File: Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Ndiyiyo Mutiti talks to regional chiefs of defence forces in Mansa
Home affairs Permanent Secretary Ndiyoyi Mutiti says the Zambia Police (ZP)service is well equipped and ready for next Tuesday’s tripartite elections.
ZANIS reports the Permanent Secretary saying this in an interview in Kabwe yesterday.
She said a number of Police officers have deployed in various polling stations in readiness for peaceful elections.
She has advised all Zambians to be calm saying the police will not tolerate any form of violence from anyone irrespective of their party affiliation.
Ms. Mutiti has since urged members of the general public to have confidence in the police.
The permanent secretary said Zambia is a peaceful nation and the police will not tolerate any form of misconduct from any of the political party members.
She has since appealed to the people of Zambia to ensure that that they uphold peace in all terms during and after the September 20 polls.
And the permanent secretary charged that contrary to speculations by certain quarters , the Zambia police has not engaged any other security personnel on the September 20 polls.
Ms. Mutiti has further urged all the electorates to turn out in big numbers to cast their vote adding that it is only through voting that their democracy can be exercised.
Recently the opposition PF accused government of having sought assistance of the Zimbabwean Police to counter violence during the forthcoming Tuesday Polls.
However, it was later learnt that the Zimbabwean police officer noticed in Lusaka were part of the sports team who made a stopover en-route to the DR Congo for the regional SADC games.
LUSAKA lawyer Hobday Kabwe says Zambia risks experiencing unprecedented levels of lawlessness in the unlikely event that Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata wins the September 20 elections.
In an interview on September 15, Mr Kabwe said Mr Sata and his followers have so far shown that they have no regard for the rule of law. He was reacting to Mr Sata’s threat to deal with citizens whom he considers to be corrupt if he is elected President.
Mr Sata was quoted in yesterday’s edition of The Post newspaper saying the country will see all the thieves on September 22, 2011.
“This statement attributed to a person who is aspiring to become Republican President makes very sad reading. He sounds like he has already secured convictions for these people and he is just waiting to sentence them,” Mr Kabwe said.
He said it is unfortunate that Mr Sata can use a political platform to threaten innocent citizens instead of delivering a message of hope for Zambians.
“It seems Mr Sata does not learn from the free legal advice we give him. There is no way he can call someone a ‘thief’ without reliable evidence and the law presumes everyone innocent until proven guilty,” Mr Kabwe said.
He warned Zambians to be cautious and ensure that they do not vote for Mr Sata to avoid putting someone with a dictatorial character into office.
He said the people have a perfect opportunity to assess the difference between Mr Sata and President Banda through the duo’s utterances.
“While President Banda has been consistent in focusing on delivering the message of hope to Zambians, Mr Sata’s statements are in most cases about lawlessness. What kind of a President will he make in an unlikely event that he wins the elections next week?” Mr Kabwe said.
He urged well-meaning Zambians to ensure that the economic and social gains the country has attained under President Banda are maintained by retaining the MMD in power.
Mr Kabwe said President Banda has clearly demonstrated his passion to develop all parts of the country without discrimination.
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Kabwata parliamentary candidate Given Lubinda and two others have been implicated in the distribution of a fake statement attributed to first President Kenneth Kaunda.
The source said Mr Lubinda, in the company of a Mr Joseph Chisenge, a PF cadre, and another man believed to be an employee of The Post, were spotted at a business centre at Arcades shopping mall on September 14 around 11:30 hours, where they were overheard making arrangements to distribute the false document.
The source said Mr Lubinda was also heard urging the two other men to ‘hurry up’ and finalise the document before The Post newspaper driver was instructed to start distributing it.
“Joseph Chisenge was with Mr Lubinda at Arcades around 11:30 hours and a courier van from The Post was parked at a distance and shortly, the van started distributing the documents,” the source said.
“Mr Lubinda was even telling the driver to speed up his pace as he had a programme at Radio Phoenix and for sure, he was on Radio Phoenix later around 15:00 hours,” he said.
He said The Post courier van was also spotted at Yatsani Radio station dropping off the manipulated document.
Meanwhile, more organisations have condemned the attempt by The Post Newspaper editor Fred M’membe and Mark Chona to attribute a document they authored to President Kenneth Kaunda.
Forum for Leadership Search executive director Edwin Lifwekelo said in an interview on September 15 that what the duo did is an act of desperation.
Mr Lifwekelo said taking advantage of Dr Kaunda is a sign that Mr M’membe and Mr Chona and their allies have run out of time and are now looking for ways to play on the minds of the electorate.
He said the duo must be ashamed of themselves as what they did on September 14 is a malicious act which should be condemned with the contempt it deserves.
“How can two educated people try to abuse a decent old man by attributing an inflammatory statement to him? We should have decency in our politics,” he said.
Committee of Citizens executive director Gregory Chifire said Mr M’membe and Mr Chona are desperate to campaign for the Patriotic Front but it is good that their attempt to malign Dr Kaunda has been foiled.
He said Dr Kaunda is a respected person in Zambia and the fact that Mr M’membe has decided to take advantage of his friendship with Dr Kaunda shows high levels of panic.
“Mr M’membe has betrayed Dr Kaunda. What he and his allies have done is a disgrace. They are hoping that the debts owed to various institutions can be written off,” Mr Chifire said.
Zambia National Marketeers Association (ZANAMA) chairman general Elvis Nkandu said it is a well-known fact that The Post is working with the PF to discredit the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
Mr Nkandu said no matter what the newspaper attempts to do, Zambians have already made up their minds on who to vote for.
He said all attempts to discredit the electoral body are futile because President Banda has done his homework and is going to win next week’s elections.
Independent Churches of Zambia (ICOZ) president David Masupa said it is unfortunate for some people to sink to such low levels.
Reverend Masupa said Zambians must be wary of institutions and individuals working with some political parties without credibility.
He said Zambians must continue to pray for the country to go through a peaceful electoral process.
Government has released funds towards the payment of bursaries for one thousand vulnerable students in various trades training institutions cross the country.
Science and Technology Acting Permanent Secretary Albert Kayamba says 3 point 9 billion kwacha has been released out of the annual allocation of five point five billion kwacha.
Mr Kayamba says government has further put in place a deliberate policy to ensure as many children as possible access bursaries in rural institutions.
He was speaking shortly after inspecting the nine point four billion kwacha expansion works at Mwinilunga trades training institute in North Western Province.
The works which include the construction of new hostels, new administration block and new classrooms were initiated by President Banda soon after assuming office in 2008.
And Mwinilunga Trades Principal Damson Yikona thanked government for expanding the school.
She says the institution will help meet demands from the new investments in the mining sector in the province.
Patriotic Front leader Micheal Sata has revealed that the ruling MMD will tomorrow Saturday,17th September begin allegedly giving unsuspecting Zambians pre-marked ballot papers to use on voting day after bribing them with K600,000.
Mr. Sata says the giving of pre-marked ballot papers to unsuspecting Zambians is one of the rigging tactics of the MMD.
He has since encouraged Zambians to get the pre-marked ballot papers and the money but put their vote on the Patriotic Front.
He says the MMD is desperate to return power as can be seen from the propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting the PF.
Addressing a rally in Serenje district this afternoon, Mr. Sata called on Zambians to unite and remove the corrupt MMD government.
Mr. Sata has further advised the intelligence officers to think about the million Zambians who are suffering at the expense of the corrupt government.
He says the MMD should accept that they are losing this year’s elections other than resorting to desperate maneuvers.
Meanwhile, President Rupiah Banda says the PF’s don’t Kubeba slogan is insulting to the people of Zambia especially that Zambia is a democracy.
Speaking when he addressed a rally at Chifubu grounds in Ndola this afternoon Mr Banda says the PF uses the don’t Kubeba slogan because they lack direction and ideas.
President Banda says the PF lacks good leadership hence they cannot tell the Zambian people anything.
Mr. Banda who spent most of his time attacking the PF leader added that the MMD deserves to be reelected because it has worked so hard in its campaigns.
He says the PF cannot run government because they have failed to run the councils which they controlled.
President Banda said on the other hand the MMD’s good direction can be seen from the many development initiatives that the party has embarked on.
He has further expressed confidence that the MMD will emerge victorious in next week’s election and that PF leader Michael Sata will kiss dust again.
ZAMBIA Congress of Trade Unions secretary general Roy Mwaba
The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called on presidential candidates in the September 20 polls to be prepared to concede defeat.
ZCTU General Secretary Roy Mwaba says the republican constitution provides that there can only be one head of state at a time.
Mr. Mwaba says workers in the country want calm and peace to prevail before, during and after the general elections.
And Mr Mwaba has advised workers across the country against voting for politicians who have a tendency of making empty promises.
He says workers should not use their emotions when voting, but exercise sobriety and elect leaders who are practical.
Mr. Mwaba was speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka this morning.
He also says workers want whoever will win the polls to strengthened labour laws, broaden the tax base and enhance social dialogue.
Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has said that her party will accept and respect the outcome of next Tuesday’s election results as the will of the people.
Ms. Nawakwi said that the results will determine who the people want because they are the ones with a final say on who they want to lead them.
And Veteran Politician Vernon Mwaanga has challenged all political parties taking part in the September 20 general elections to openly declare that they will peacefully accept the results as announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mr Mwaanga said that all politicians must accept the certified results by ECZ because there can only be one winner after the elections.
He said that all Zambians should embrace a democratic culture where winners embrace losers with magnanimity for the sake of peace and unity in the country.
Mr Mwaanga was speaking during a campaign rally in Chivuna in Pemba Constituency in Southern Province.
Mr Mwaanga and the MMD campaign team have held similar meetings in Kalomo central, Mapatizya, Mbabala, Bweengwa , Magoye, Mazabuka Central and Sinazongwe among others.
And Mr Mwaanga says there are positive signs that the people of Southern province are beginning to want to work and be part of the ruling MMD.
The Patriotic Front (PF) is confident of winning next week’s tripartite elections.
PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba says the party’s confidence comes from the overwhelming support which it is receiving from all the nine provinces in the country.
Mr. Kabimba told Journalists at a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday that the PF has grown in all the nine provinces.
He also says the PF will continue to engage the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in its administration of the elections in the country.
Mr. Kabimba also disclosed that the PF has trained 27 000 polling agents to monitor the elections countrywide.
And PF Vice president Guy Scott says his party has national character because of its popularity.
And Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi says her party will implement the decentralization policy if voted into office in next Tuesday’s elections for faster and efficient development to take place across the country.
Ms. Nawakwi says some districts have lagged behind in terms of development because decisions are made centrally without considering what the needs of the people in the districts are.
[pullquote]Mr. Kabimba also disclosed that the PF has trained 27 000 polling agents to monitor the elections countrywide.[/pullquote]
She says once in power she will ensure that all areas across the country equally benefit from the national cake.
Ms. Nawakwi says efficient development can only come if the local people are included in the mainstream of the economy.
The FDD leader was speaking on a live phone-in program on Solwezi radio.
I am 19 years old and my dad died when I was 12 years. My dad had 11 children from 5 women. The only children who benefited from his property when he died were the children of our step mother who was married to him at the time of his death. We all used to live with dad until he died.
Is there any hope that anyone can help us claim our share? Dad died just after getting his pension and left a 5 bedroomed house in Avondale Lusaka and a 3 bedroom in the same area. Me (19yrs) and my sister(17yrs) from the same mother,my brother (25) from another mother and my sister( 23yrs) and brother (20yrs) from another mother did not benefit.
How can we claim our inheritance from our step mother.
Many people dont exercise their backs , you cant see your back in the mirror ,so you think “whats the point” . However strenthening ones back is very important. A strong back will;
improve your physique
correct your posture
prevent injury when doing other workouts
BEST BACK WORKOUTS
DEAD LIFT
How it is done;
Stand in front of a loaded barbell.
While keeping the back as straight as possible, bend your knees, bend forward and grasp the bar using a medium (shoulder width) overhand grip. This will be the starting position of the exercise.
While holding the bar, start the lift by pushing with your legs while simultaneously getting your torso to the upright position as you breathe out. In the upright position, stick your chest out and contract the back by bringing the shoulder blades back.
Go back to the starting position by bending at the knees while simultaneously leaning the torso forward at the waist while keeping the back straight. When the weights on the bar touch the floor you are back at the starting position and ready to perform another repetition
Precaution:
This is not an exercise to be taken lightly. If you have back issues, substitute it for a rowing motion instead.
If you have a healthy back, ensure perfect form and never round the back as this can cause back injury. Be cautious as well with the weight used; in case of doubt, use less weight rather than more.
Variations: Dumbbells can be used instead of barbell.
PULL UPS
Grab the pull-up bar with the palms facing forward
As you have both arms extended in front of you holding the bar at the chosen grip width, bring your torso back around 30 degrees or so while creating a curvature on your lower back and sticking your chest out. This is your starting position.
Pull your torso up until the bar touches your upper chest by drawing the shoulders and the upper arms down and back. Exhale as you perform this portion of the movement.
After a second on the contracted position, start to inhale and slowly lower your torso back to the starting position when your arms are fully extended and the lats are fully stretched.
Repeat this motion for the prescribed amount of repetitions.
Precaution: Concentrate on squeezing the back muscles once you reach the full contracted position. The upper torso should remain stationary as it moves through space and only the arms should move. The forearms should do no other work other than hold the bar.
Have someone to help you if it is too hard for you
BENT OVER BARBELL ROW
How it is done;
Holding a barbell with the palms facing down, bend your knees slightly and bring your torso forward, by bending at the waist, while keeping the back straight until it is almost parallel to the floor.
Make sure that you keep the head up. The barbell should hang directly in front of you as your arms hang perpendicular to the floor and your torso. This is your starting position.
Now, while keeping the torso stationary, breathe out and lift the barbell to you. Keep the elbows close to the body and only use the forearms to hold the weight. At the top contracted position, squeeze the back muscles and hold for a brief pause.
Then inhale and slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position.
Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.
Precaution: This exercise is not recommended for people with back problems.
PRESIDENT Banda has declared September 20, September 20 a public holiday. Secretary to the Cabinet Joshua Kanganja said in a statement yesterday that this is to allow all eligible registered voters to cast their votes.
Dr Kanganja said Government is, therefore, appealing to all employers to ensure that the holiday is observed to enable all employees to cast their vote.
“To enable all eligible registered voters to have an opportunity to exercise their right to vote and elect leaders of their choice, His Excellency the President Mr Rupiah Banda has declared Tuesday, September 20, 2011 a public holiday,” Dr Kanganja said.
He said voters are encouraged to take advantage of the public holiday to vote early to avoid congestion at polling stations towards the end of the official voting time.
