PRESIDENT Banda says Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata talks a lot but says very little.

Mr Banda said Mr Sata claims to be a big man but lacks substance.

“He promises everything but delivers nothing. When he and his PF friends come calling ask them questions,” Mr Banda said.

He said this yesterday when he launched the Presidential and MMD campaign for the 2011 general elections.

He said people should ask the PF how it will build tomorrow’s Zambia, how it will create stability, security and prosperity for all Zambians.

He said Mr Sata can never be President for all Zambians who have already rejected him three times.

Mr Banda said former President Frederick Chiluba rejected Mr Sata as his successor because he knew he is not worthy.

“Dr Mwanawasa beat him in 2001 because he was a better man. He beat him again in 2006; easily I beat him in 2008 and in 2011will beat him again. But Sata never learns, he is like a punch-drunk boxer who keeps coming back for more. Well this time the MMD is going to knock him out for good! The people of Zambia will be the referee…let them count him out,” he said.

Mr Banda said the PF leader’s final hour has really come because the PF boat is sinking and that Mr Sata will go down with it forever.

He said as President since 2008, he can stand before the Zambian people and point to what his Government has achieved.

Mr Banda said the MMD is ready to be judged by the people who have seen what it has done.

“We have been constructive and energetic. They have also seen what the opposition have been doing; fighting and squabbling like children. Michael Sata will be asking Zambians to vote for him. Let him stand on his record, too,” he said.

He said in 2008, Mr Sata promised to fix load-shedding, build the Livingstone road, and put more money in people’s pockets within 90 days but nobody believed him.

Mr Banda said even this year, Mr Sata is making the same promises but he has no vision, no new ideas, and no direction.

“He is yesterday’s man. This year he will say that it is time for change. But change to what? People of Zambia, your choice is simple. You can go backwards with PF or forward with the MMD,” he said.

He said the truth is that PF is a one-man band with a sick heart, it has no soul and that it only has Mr Sata whom Zambians cannot trust.

Mr Banda said United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema trusted Mr Sata but he got hurt.

“Sata likes to call himself the cobra. I never trust a creature that slithers on its stomach, would you trust a snake? I warn all Zambians if you play with the cobra expect to be bitten. But that is democracy for you. Everybody has a right to stand, even Michael Sata,” he said.

He added that the failed PF-UPND pact was meant to be about teamwork but Mr Sata is not a team player.

“We knew the pact would never work because we know that Sata will say and do anything to get power. Because of their mistakes and failures, the Zambian people will punish them. The MMD will take votes from PF up and down the country. We will take them from the Copperbelt, Lusaka and Luapula,” he said.

Mr Banda also cautioned the UPND to watch out because the MMD will win in Southern Province because it is a party for all Zambians.

The First Lady Thandiwe Banda, Vice President George Kunda and his wife Ireen were among hundreds of MMD members and invited guests that witnessed the Presidential launch of the 2011 campaigns.

Also notable among the invited guests was former Republican Vice President Enock Kavindele.

Meanwhile Mr Banda has urged Zambians to be careful with opposition PF Leader Michael Sata who talks a lot but lacks substance.

President BANDA said because of his unsubstantiated talk, Mr Sata has been rejected three times by the people of Zambia.

President Banda however noted that MMD has is yet to do more for the development of the nation.

And Diplomats accredited to Zambia have described President Rupiah Banda’s campaign message as inspirational. Egyptian ambassador to Zambia, Salah El Sadek says the President has highlighted what his government has done under his leadership.

Mr. El Sadek told ZNBC News that it is interesting to note that the President has also urged his party to avoid violence at all costs. The diplomat was reacting to President Banda speech during the official launch of the MMD election campaign in Lusaka.

And South African ambassador to Zambia Moses Chikane said the region is confident that ZAMBIA will again uphold the democratic tenants during this year’s elections as it has done for many years.

Meanwhile Nigerian ambassador to Zambia Folake Marcus-Bello said the President’s speech gives a lot of hope to foreign dignitaries that ZAMBIA will make Africa proud.

And former Republican and MMD Vice President Enock Kavindele says President’s speech gives all MMD supports confidence to go out and campaign based on the party’s achievements.

New Generation Party (NGP) President Humphrey Siulapwa has called on the United Party for National Development (UPND) Supporters to give their vote to President Banda because their leader Hakainde Hichilema has no hope of winning this year’s elections despite being a young good leader.

He admitted that Mr Hichilema is a good leader but he has no supporters and is likely to emerge in the third position in this year’s elections.

Mr. Siulapwa noted that if the UPND support MMD the PF leader Michael Sata will have no chance of winning the elections.

He also noted that Ellias Chipomo Junior is now feeling the heart of the political arena because he is not popular and he is not known by the electorates.

Mr Siulapwa says for one to be a President he must be known by all Zambians.

And Mr Siulapwa has declared that he will not sit back and watch people insult President Rupiah Banda.

Mr. Siulapwa said the Mr Banda is a President for all Zambians and people should respect him whether they voted for him in 2008 or not.

He pointed out that his party will not support anyone who will continue to disrespect President Banda in this year’s tripartite elections.

The NGP president noted that the president should be supported according to the decree of the Bible that all authority should and respected.

He said President can not be equated to all Presidential aspiring candidates for this year’s elections because he has delivered to the expectation of all Zambians.

The ruling Movement for Mult-Party Democracy (MMD) in Eastern Province has called on Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata to go and challenge Chief Chikuwe of the Chewe people in Chipata district to authenticate President Rupiah Banda’s origin.

Provincial Chairperson Kennedy Zulu said Mr Sata should go and challenge Chief Chikuwe and prove that President Banda lied about his roots.

Mr Zulu said President Banda is one of Chief Chikuwe’s subjects and the PF leader should go and verify with him to prove if he is liar as there is enough evidence to show that the President is Zambian.

He said Mr Sata contradicted himself when he said that Nyimba people were denied fertilizer by their own relative and later said President Banda was either from Zimbabwe or Malawi.

However, villagers in Chief Chikuwe area have described Mr Sata’s allegations as an act of a desperate politician who has run out of ideas.

Mr. Sata was quoted in the Sunday Post as having said that President Banda lied about his roots.

One the concerned villager Masiye Banda who is also headman Kanfuwe said politicians should not fabricate stories but tell the people the truth to allow electorates make informed decision.

The Village headman told ZANIS that President is a Chewa whose father was born in his village.

Yesterday, the PF leader Michael Sata alleged that President Rupiah Banda lied about his nationality.

One of the most promising up coming  rappers in zambia has to be Pompi , i havnt been listening to his music for so long , but the first time i listened his track “bring the bass”  i knew that he was not just your average rapper.

In an interview on Head rush (a popular hiphop show on  Channel O) he explained he was given the name Pompi, which means tap , it is a metaphor meaning that words come out of his mouth like water from a tap. He has been in the music industry for more than 7 years and he has a number of his videos that have played on Channel O as well as MTVbase.

Apart from making music he is also the CEO of Lota house (House of dreamers). It is a media and marketing company that deal with ; branding road shows , talent management , cooperate event management , among other things. He also hosts a number of events such as the  BLXCKLISTED  party that takes place every year.

His latest single is “chipolopolo”  ,which is heating up the airwaves , it was also reasently played on BBC  radio.

Pompi should be an inspiration to other up coming rappers because , in addition to being a  rapper and singer , he is also a graduate with a bachelors degree in business systems and honors in computer science and information. And he is an entrepreneur. Making good on the saying “dont put all your eggs in one basket”.

He is currently working on his first album ,which should be released early next year. He is planning on working with a range of  artists such as Oliver Mutukudzi from Zimbabwe  and Uncle Rex from Zambia , just to name a few.

MMD deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu has said the ruling party would write to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to complain about the insults Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata and Mr Given Lubinda have been issuing during their campaigns in the Eastern Province against the ruling party’s parliamentary candidates.

And in Mazabuka, some PF cadres allegedly stormed former PF ward chairperson Wamunyima Mubiyalelwa’s house with intent to attack him following his decision to defect to the ruling MMD.

Mr Nyangu has said the PF leadership is encouraging people to resort to electoral violence ahead of the September 20 elections.

“It has come to the party’s attention that the PF delegation currently in Eastern Province is encouraging electoral violence. The PF delegation led by its leader Michael Sata has launched its campaign based on insults.

“In Nyimba, Mr Sata and Mr Given Lubinda have been insulting our parliamentary candidate Mr Folie Tembo and the same is obtaining in Petauke where Mr Sata has launched a barrage of insults against Ms Dora Siliya,” he said.

He said it was unfortunate that the PF is launching its campaign based on insults when the three mother bodies have called on political parties to campaign peacefully.

“Why should the whole lot of a leader go to Eastern Province to go and insult our parliamentary candidates? It is for this reason that I would like to announce that the MMD will be writing to the Electoral Commission of Zambia to lodge a complaint against the PF conduct.

“Secondly, Mr Sata should not take advantage of other people’s calamities by going round bereaved families of last week’s Nyimba accident to campaign.

This surprisingly comes just a few weeks after Mr Sata shunned the funeral of his political mentor Dr Frederick Chiluba.

And in Southern Province, some PF cadres allegedly stormed former PF ward chairperson Wamunyima Mubiyalelwa’s house with intent to attack him following his decision to defect to the ruling MMD.

Mr Mubiyalelwa, who led 150 PF cadres to defect to the MMD during a rally which was being addressed by Die Hard for RB national coordinator Bowman Lusambo and Forum for Leadership Search (FLS) executive director Edwin Lifwekelo in Mazabuka at the weekend, confirmed the incident to the Times in an interview yesterday.

He claimed that a group of 10 slogan-chanting PF cadres allegedly led by Southern Province PF youth chairperson Bright Mweetwa stormed his residence and demanded that he gets out as they wanted to sort him out because he had allegedly discredited the PF by defecting to the ruling party.

But when contacted, Mr Mweetwa claimed that he was not aware of the incident as he had just returned from Monze.?Mr Mubiyalelwa said the PF cadres surrounded his home around 02:00 hours and demanded that he gets out of the house so that they sort him out.

“These people stormed my house with intent to attack me and when my wife asked them what they wanted, they were with Mr Bright Mweetwa who is the PF provincial chairman and that they wanted to sort me out. Even my neighbours were awakened by the noise these people were making,” he said.

He said he immediately called the MMD constituency chairperson Monitor Mweene who later reported the matter to the police.Mr Mubiyalelwa, who? condemned the violence by the PF, said it was surprising that the opposition could be annoyed with him for defecting when it was his right to belong to a political party of his choice.

Mr Mweene and MMD aspiring parliamentary candidate Maxwel Mwiinga confirmed the incident in separate interviews yesterday saying the matter was reported to the police.

And Mr Lifwekelo, who was one of those that addressed the rally, said it was primitive for the PF to attack the people that were leaving the party.

Mr Lifwekelo challenged the PF leadership to condemn the violence being perpetrated by its youth chairperson in Southern Province.

“Just on Saturday, we heard PF leadership denying on ZNBC news that those who defected were not their members but it is surprising to note that they should now go and attack?a person they are claiming not to be their member for defecting to the MMD,” he said.

At the same rally held at Ndeke School grounds, of 250 members of the opposition defected to the MMD with 150 coming from the PF. Others came from the United Party For National Development

I am sorry to hear of your dilemma.I would encourage you to seek counselling from an older woman you can trust.However,the ultimate decision on whether you choose to have an abortion or not is yours and you will have to live with the consequences of whatever decision you make for the rest of your life.

I will outline the risks and complications involved in having an abortion so you can make an informed decision.

Most commonly, abortion involves elective surgery. As with all forms of surgery, there are risks associated with the procedure. For abortion, these risks increase dramatically the later in the pregnancy the procedure is performed. Possible physical risks of abortion are listed below.

Immediate health risks

Death –

Laceration of the cervix – About 1 out of 20 women suffer this during an abortion. This causes you to have nearly a 50/50 chance of miscarrying in your next pregnancy if it is not treated properly during that pregnancy. A high incidence of cervical damage from the abortion procedure has raised the incidence of miscarriage 30-40% in women who have had abortions.

Uterine perforation – About 2% of all abortion patients may suffer perforation of their uterus, yet most of these injuries will remain undiagnosed and untreated unless laparoscopic visualization is performed.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) – 23% of patients who have a chlamydia infection at the time of the abortion will develop PID within 4 weeks. About 20 to 27% of patients seeking abortion have a chlamydia infection. Approximately 5% of patients who are not infected by chlamydia develop PID within 4 weeks after a first trimester abortion.

Endometritis (Infection) – Occurrence of genital tract infection following elective abortion is up to 5% for first trimester abortions and up to 18% in midtrimester. Endometritis is a post-abortion risk for all women, but especially for teenagers, who are 2.5 times more likely than women 20-29 to acquire endometritis following abortion.

Risks to future pregnancies

Pre-term delivery – Women who had one, two, or more previous induced abortions are, respectively, 1.89, 2.66, or 2.03 times more likely to have a subsequent pre-term delivery, compared to women who carry to term.

Placenta previa – Abortion increases the risk of placenta previa in later pregnancies (a life threatening condition for both the mother and her baby) by seven to fifteen fold. Abnormal development of the placenta due to uterine damage increases the risk of fetal malformation, perinatal death, and excessive bleeding during labor.

Ectopic pregnancy – Abortion is significantly related to an increased risk of subsequent ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies, in turn, are life threatening and may result in reduced fertility.

Long-term health risks

Breast Cancer – The risk of breast cancer almost doubles after one abortion, and rises even further with two or more abortions.

Cervical, ovarian, and liver cancer – Women with one abortion face a 2.3 relative risk of cervical cancer, compared to non-aborted women, and women with two or more abortions face a 4.92 relative risk. Similar elevated risks of ovarian and liver cancer have also been linked to single and multiple abortions.

The Psychological effects of Abortion

There is only one positive emotion reported: relief. This emotion is understandable, especially in light of the fact that the majority of aborting women report feeling under intense pressure to “get it over with.”

Temporary feelings of relief are frequently followed by a period psychiatrists identify as emotional “paralysis,” or post-abortion “numbness. Like shell-shocked soldiers, these aborted women are unable to express or even feel their own emotions. Their focus is primarily on having survived the ordeal, and they are at least temporarily out of touch with their feelings.

Some of the psychological effects after an abortion in women in your age group are include

Over 50% of women experienced one or more of the following feelings after they had abortions: depression, guilt, regret, nervousness, insomnia.

30%- 50% of aborted women report experiencing sexual dysfunctions, of both short and long duration, beginning immediately after their abortions. These problems may include one or more of the following: loss of pleasure from intercourse, increased pain, an aversion to sex and/or males in general, or the development of a promiscuous life-style.

Some data indicates that on average there is a 5-10 year period of denial during which a woman who was traumatized by her abortion will repress her feelings. During this time, the woman may go to great lengths to avoid people, situations, or events which she associates with her abortion and she may even become vocally defensive of abortion in order to convince others, and herself, that she made the right choice and is satisfied with the outcome. In reality, these women who are subsequently identified as having been severely traumatized, have failed to reach a true state of “closure” with regard to their experiences.

Repressed feelings of any sort can result in psychological and behavioral difficulties which exhibit themselves in other areas of one’s life.

Some women who would otherwise appear to have been satisfied with their abortion experience, are reported to enter into emotional crisis decades later with the onset of menopause or after their youngest child leaves home.

President Rupiah Banda has said that he will not use the title of Doctor, despite being conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in political science by Rusangu University, a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA)-owned university.

According to a statement issued yesterday by special assistant to the President for press and public relations Dickson Jere, the President said that he wanted to maintain the title of Mr although he appreciates the gesture by Rusangu University to confer a doctorate on him.

At the function the President Banda said he was deeply touched to be bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree in political science by a local university.

“I would like to thank Rusangu University for honouring me with a title of a doctor for political science. I am deeply touched and humbled. What is more pleasing is that Rusangu University will be one of my own and I accept the challenge of building the institution,” he said.

Rusangu University chancellor Harrinton Akombwa said the university had decided to confer Mr Banda with the honorary doctorate degree because of his political and economic contribution to Zambia’s development.

Dr Akombwa said President Banda’s good leadership has led Zambia to being ranked a lower middle-income country.

He said the university has bestowed Mr Banda with the honorary doctorate degree because of his distinguished career in political and economic affairs, and liberation of Zambia.

At the same function, new Rusangu University vice-chancellor Mutuku Mutinga said the university is playing its role in contributing to the development of Zambia through the production of highly-qualified personnel.

Prof Mutinga also commended Government for grading the six-kilometre road which connects the institution to the Monze-Livingstone road.

And PRESIDENT Banda has urged Zambians to continue investing in upgrading their education because the country’s development is anchored on an educated society.

Mr Banda said at the 5th graduation ceremony for Rusangu University in Monze yesterday that Zambians should continue advancing their education through which they will contribute to the economic growth of the country.

“We are going to be judged as a truly developed country only when our people have attained education. No country will develop when its population is less educated.

“Education is not a waste of money; money spent on removing ignorance from children is worth investing because the key to success is education,” he said.

President Banda commended the SDA for the role it is playing in supplementing Government’s efforts of providing quality education to Zambians.

Mr Banda said the SDA has played an important role in the development of the country and yesterday’s academic work is evidence of its immense importance.

“Allow me to say that my Government appreciates what you are doing and fully supports your initiative of providing a holistic education that seeks to train the head, the hand and heart of the whole person,” he said.

President Banda said Government is strongly committed to supporting higher institutions of learning such as Rusangu University because it recognises that the task of educating citizens is expensive and should not be left to Government alone.

The head of State said by providing training facilities locally, the church is helping Government to conserve foreign exchange that would have been spent on training Zambians abroad.

Mr Banda said he is happy Rusangu University has pioneered the training of professionals in science, which most private institutions have avoided because of high costs involved.

He urged the graduands to use the education they have obtained from Rusangu University to serve Zambia and help the country to develop.

“In the recent past, we have witnessed a mass brain-drain in various disciplines in the region. Since your country has provided a platform for your training, it is only fair that you go back to serve the people,” Mr Banda said.

Meanwhile, professors from leading universities in Zambia have hailed President Banda for his outstanding dedication to education.

The professors present at the colourful ceremony were Zambia Open University vice-chancellor Dickson Mwansa and Mulungushi University vice-chancellor Vernon Chinene, and Lusaka University’s rector Pinalo Chifwanakeni.

Prof Mwansa said Mr Banda was present at the crowning of the first vice-chancellor of Mulungushi University and commended the President for committing himself to the improvement of the education sector.

Prof Mwansa said since Mr Banda ascended to the Presidency in 2008, the education sector has witnessed a massive growth of private universities that are offering quality education to Zambians.

And Prof Chinene said Mr Banda was supposed to have been on a campaign trail but chose to be at the graduation ceremony, which shows that he attaches great importance to education.

“You are supposed to have been campaigning Mr President but you have found time to be here with us and this is a sign of how you value national education,” he said.

Mr Chifwanakeni commended Government for liberalising the education sector.

And Copperbelt University vice-chancellor Mike Musonda also commended Mr Banda and congratulated Prof Mutinga on his appointment as vice-chancellor of Rusangu University.
