THE Government has castigated United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema for allegedly misleading and inciting chiefs in Southern Province over the realignment of Chirundu and Ithezi-Thezi districts.
Chief Government spokesperson Fackson Shamenda said in Lusaka yesterday that the decision to realign the two districts was for administrative purposes meant to enhance development in the two areas.
“Why are we only having problems with Southern Province, this has been done in other provinces as well. Why is this leader who wants to become a national president only concerned about the area where he comes from?” he asked.
He said it was wrong for the opposition leader to raise anxieties of the traditional leaders for political expedience.
Mr Shamenda, who is Information, Broadcasting and Labour minister, said the realignment of the two districts was meant to enhance efficient service delivery and development for the benefit of the people.

“All the decisions that we take as a Government are in the interest of the Zambian people. Let us be sober in the way we discuss these issues. The boundaries are not being re-demarcated, we are just realigning these areas, and this does not affect the chiefs,” he said.
He said the realignment was also meant to ensure the districts became more productive.
But when contacted for comment Mr Hichilema said the chiefs were not children who could be incited by anybody.
“Mr Shamenda must know that the people he is talking about are not children. They are the custodians of the land on behalf of the people.
This arbitrary decision by President (Michael) Sata has been rejected.
“Land issues are very sensitive and these are the issues that cause war. I totally agree with the position of the chiefs and I am ready to be arrested. I have already challenged the Home Affairs Minister (Mr Kennedy Sakeni) to arrest me. Let them not intimidate people.
“Today (yesterday) there is a meeting in Choma by the people. Is he saying that it is me also inciting the people?” he said.
The opposition leader said it was wrong for Mr Shamenda to say that he only spoke about Southern Province when he had also complained about Muchinga and some problems in North-Western Province.
He said the Government should reconsider its position on the realignment of Chirundu and Itezhi-Tezhi districts.
The Southern Province Royal Foundation, an organisation for the traditional leaders in the province, has opposed the decision by the Government to realign Chirundu and Itezhi -Tezhi.
The resolution was made after a meeting that was held in Choma last week.
United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has commended the government for awarding each national team player over USD 59,000 equivalent to about K300 Million.
Mr. Hichilema says his commendation also goes to the corporate world and others for the various contributions they have made to the national team.
The opposition leader has since urged the players to use the money wisely.
Mr. Hichilema has further commended the gallant Chipolopolo boys for having carried the Zambian flag high at the just ended African cup of Nations were they were crowned Champions of African football.
He says Zambia’s lifting of the Africa Cup has brought glory and honour to the nation.
Mr. Hichilema has since urged glowing tribute to the technical bench led Herve Renard for guiding the team to a resounding performance throughout the tournament.
He adds that credit should also go to the Football Association of Zambia led by Kalusha Bwalya for their leadership before and during the tournament.
Mr. Hichilema has also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during this time of celebrations.

AN eleven-year-old girl yesterday narrated in a Kitwe magistrate’s court how an 82 year-old-man allegedly defiled her on several occasions and allegedly infected her with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
This is in the case in which Joel Chileshe, unemployed of Kawama Township, is charged with defilement after he allegedly had sex with the girl on October 21, last year.
The girl, a Grade four pupil, told magistrate Ruth Kapulo that Chileshe had sex with her on several occasions and would sometimes give her biscuits after the act. She narrated that on October 21, last year, Chileshe who was in the company of his friend went to her family’s home to buy beer.
She told the court that it was during that occasion that he took advantage to allegedly fondle her breasts.
The girl said her younger sister started crying upon seeing what Chileshe was doing to her and that was how her father who was in the house called her. She said the following day, Chileshe took her to his house, where he allegedly undressed her, held her legs apart and defiled her.
The girl told the court that after the act, she noticed some discharge from her private parts which Chileshe wiped with a cloth.
“The man held my legs when having sex with me and when I told him that it was painful, he said he was going to be gentle and after he finished he took a cloth to wipe the discharge that was coming from my private parts,” she told the court.
The girl told the court that for one week, Chileshe picked her from school on his bicycle and took her to his house where he would allegedly fond her breasts, lick her private parts and later defile her.
She said she usually experienced abdominal pains and that the time the accused person took her to his house, his wife was in Wusakile Township because she was sick. The girl said after some time she told her brother what Chileshe was doing to her and later her mother was informed about it.
In cross examination by Chileshe, the girl said the accused person went to pick her up from school on several occasions, allegedly defiled her and would later escort her half way the distance to her home.
When Chileshe persistently asked the girl if the mother had not sent her and her sibling to take beer to him, the girl broke down and said it was because of him that she was now on HIV/AIDS treatment.
She told the court that Chileshe allegedly used to defile her younger sister and denied that she was in the habit of having sex with other men.
The matter comes up for continued hearing on February 29.

FORMER Republican president, Rupiah Banda, could not resist the ‘magic charm’ of the ‘Donchi Kubeba’ fever when he joined in to dance to Dandy Crazy’s hit song at First Lady, Christine Kaseba’s luncheon held in honour of the triumphant Zambia national soccer team.
Mr Banda, who also raised his index finger to his lips in the ‘Donchi Kubeba’ style while on the dance floor, stood up to join President Michael Sata and First president, Kenneth Kaunda, among other guests who had already taken to the floor.
The popular musician, Dandy Crazy, was on hand to perform the all-too famous ‘Donchi Kubeba’ song which also attracted Dr Kaseba, national soccer team coach, Herve Renard and the players.
At some point, a jubilant Mr Sata picked a cap from Dandy Crazy’s head and placed it on Mr Banda’s head, an act that just went to epitomise the unprecedented unity and joyous moments that the victory by the Chipolopolo Boys has brought to the nation.
Meanwhile, the national soccer team players have raked in K2 billion in pledges from the private sector for lifting the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title while Government is considering giving a house to each of the players.
Companies announced their pledges at the luncheon with Zambian Breweries Plc pledging K400 million, MTN Zambia K200 million and ZESCO
pledging K100 million.
Others are Railway Systems of Zambia (RSZ) K360 million, GBM Milling K200 million, First Quantum Minerals (FQM) K250 million, Zambeef K200
million, and Zhou Mining K500 million.
FQM also pledged to make a copper engraving of the names of the 1993 Gabon air crash victims as well as names of the AFCON title winning
squad at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola while Zamtel donated a 29-seater minibus.
MTN rolled out the K1 billion worth of sponsorship to FAZ for the 2012 season while the K400 million from Zambian Breweries is the last
instalment of the K4 billion that the company committed towards the national team.
Earlier, team captain Christopher Katongo said he thought among the pledges, somebody would give the players houses.
Local Government, Housing, Early Education and Environmental Protection Minister, Nkandu Luo then said the Government would look
into the best way to thank the players for winning the Africa Cup and that the houses Katongo mentioned would be looked into.
President Michael Sata who referred to himself as a “football hooligan” said he was honoured to be invited to the luncheon by Dr
Kaseba and told the players that winning the AFCON was just the beginning of more hurdles ahead.
“There’s a Chinese saying that a long journey starts with one step. Winning is more painful than losing so you shouldn’t go to sleep
because it will be painful for you to lose,” the President who was in a jovial mood said.
Mr Sata told the players that their title winning feat has made them ambassadors of their clubs.
He said the Chipolopolo had done well to lift the AFCON trophy to honour the 1993 air disaster victims and the country’s number one
soccer fan Kenneth Kaunda who is still alive to witness the spectacle.
“When we lost our team in 1993, I declared Independence stadium as their burialsite, I did not even consult,” he said.

Kapa187: Tell us about the moment when you decided that music was something that you wanted to do with your life.
Starn: Music wasn’t really what I wanted to do,I always wanted to work for the UN as secretary General,lol…Was greatly inspired by Koffi Anan, so I wanted to study Business Administration, which I studied at the University of Zambia but then I did it because I wanted the knowledge to run my own Business . But I felt there was no struggle whatsoever for me to do music and I loved it. Therefore, the moment came and I immediately left my home town to the capital city to pursue that dream of being an R&B Artist.
Kapa187: Being a praise and worship leader at your church , is all the music you make gospel or do you do other kinds as well?
Starn: Very sensitive question, well that depends on one’s definition of what Gospel music is, if it Good news then YES all my Music is Gospel ,lol…I have love songs on my new album, but the context is Biblical, its not the drop it on me kind of love songs…lol
Kapa187:.How did it feel like when you were recording your first album in 2006 and how was the response to the album?
Starn: Recording my first album was like very interesting for me because it was the first time I was stepping into the studio to record. I had a lot to learn, was quite young as well, I was about 20 or less,the feeling was a bitter -sweet kind of experience .Sweet that I was beginning to live my dream, bitter because the route wasn’t so friendly for me, it was very hard. The response to the album was overwhelming for me, cause it was my first time I was being played on air.(Radio) and Tv and my single “Filapwa” became so big both in Christian and secular environment. The album gave me the exposure I needed but the sales were terrible, did not have any distribution deals whatsoever .
Kapa187: How did it feel to be in the movie Zed crew , how did you get the part.
Starn: Woow “Zed crew” at first I wasn’t excited about it, but later on everything started moving at a pace we all couldn’t understand . I got the role of “starn” in the movie, a good friend to the main staring “Hong” because even in real life “Hong The Lyricist” is my very good friend. Also the time the E-mail came concerning the movie I was with him. I had been acting even before but “Zed Crew” made me become aggressive at it. The Cannes festival was something I never thought I would ever come any closer to, it was something way out of my thought line. But it was an achievement for me personally and made me pursue acting aswell seriously. From Zed Crew I went on to be in a series called “My country” as “Brian” a spoilt school boy from a very rich background, naughty boy, lol…a sensitization program of the APRM (African Peer Review Mechanism)
Kapa187: The movie was showcased at the cannes film festival in france , that give a lot of exposer .Is acting something that you will continue to do?
Starn: Well, acting is something I started before I started singing,so I definitely wanna act.
Current am considering starting my own Tv drama series by mid this year. Will fill you in later on the details.
Kapa187: What can your fans expect from your new album , how will it differ from your previous one
Starn: My new album is entitled “who I am” so my fans should expect “Me” on the album on nicely produced beats…
-my new album is different from the previous in many ways…
1. I have grown in my skills, my spiritual stance and many other ways I can’t manage to explain.
2. Also three quarters of my album was produced by me, so I gave my music the Feel I wanted, played the instruments I felt were appropriate.
3.My album is MOSTLY in English which is one thing Zambian artists don’t do but since my few singles I have noticed a lot more new and old artists both Gospel and secular joining in. To be honest I think the buzz about this INTERNATIONAL album is so much than my previous album which was mostly in venacular
4 . And I have grown as an Artist with so many looking up to me, hence my album is professionally done.
Kapa187: What has been the best moment and worst moment of your career.
Starn: I don’t think I have yet seen or experienced the best moment of my career, but it is yet to come. And one of that is hosting a show at Mulungushi International Conference Centre. For me that’s a dream come true, cuz the venue is so classy and expensive .But by the grace of God, am having a concert there called “Starn’s Gat The favor Concert” on the 25th March where we expect more than 2000people.
Worst moment was when my record deal on my last album tumbled. It took my career back to Zero. After having a number of shows around the country I came back home with totally nothing. We had so many good plans for my career but it never worked out. That was the worst moment in my music career. But I had to pick up the pieces and that’s how I started my own record label called “Lola Records” and am the first artist under Lola Records but am currently producing new talent a group called “Immaculate” and an R&B artist called “Songbird” .Everything works out for Good I guess, lol.
Kapa187: What do you thing is the biggest misconception about gospel artists
Starn: Gospel artists are sometimes thought of as perfect never ever making mistakes. But that’s not true, they are just vessels God uses. I feel that’s the biggest misconception about Gospel artists.
But also gospel artists tend to forget the purpose of their music ministry and become so engulfed in making a Hit song. Not saying we are not supposed to produce good music, I for one are particularly known both in the christian and secular environment to be a perfectionist in music. What am saying is that God hasn’t called us to be FAMOUS but to be GREAT, you can be very famous but with no substance or less to offer but when you are great, you are well balanced in every way or atleast most of the ways.
Kapa187: Do you have any hidden talents ?
Starn: Hidden Talent, mmmmhhh not really sure..lol…let me see…Can play Drums,Piano and Bass guitar.I think that’s all.

Daring soccer fans trying to catch on a glimpse of the aircraft carrying the Chipolopolo Boys on arrival at KK International Airport in Lusaka.
About 10 Soccer fans on Monday sustained minor injuries while one sustained a fractured leg when they tried to get a glimpse of the triumphant Zambia National Soccer Team through the roof upon their arrival from the airport with trophy.
Due to overcrowding at the show grounds where the Chipolopolo boys were taken for an official reception from the airport, some soccer fans had no option but to climb on top of the roofs in order to see the squad and the trophy which has entered the country for the first time in the history of Zambian football.
Hundreds of soccer fans escaped unhurt while about 11 were injured when a roof of the workshop for a Chinese company called Jing Young belonging to a Mr Zhu collapsed and trapped them inside to deny them an opportunity to see the triumphant entry of the boys into the show grounds.
The soccer fans cried out for help while trapped inside, a situation which partially shifted attention for a few fans from the Chipolopolo boys to the accident victims who were later aided out of the building by Police officers and the Red Cross Society.
The victims were quickly attended to by the Red Cross who were positioned almost everywhere in the Show grounds and later evacuated them to the clinic while the one who sustained a fractured leg was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital.
Eye witness of the accident only identified as Inspector Kapalang’oma said the fans resisted his directives to get off from the roof and shortly fell off as they were too many of them on top of the roof.
One of the victims John Phiri of Kalingalinga compound in Lusaka could not explain what had happened to him and looked surprised to see wounds on his body while other six of whom were ladies were simply crying as they were administered first aid.
The Chipolopolo boys arrived from Libreville, Gabon on Monday where they emerged 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Champions after beating Ivory Coast on penalties in the finals.
The Copper bullets arrived home to a thunderous welcome by soccer fans who lined up along Great East road from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to the show grounds where they had a reception arranged by Government.

Soccer fans in Solwezi have called on government to allow the AFCON cup trophy to be taken round to all provincial centres to accord the people chance to physically see it.
Some supporters talked to by ZANIS said it was a life time experience to have a prestigious trophy in the history of Zambian football and would want to experience real feel of it.
Zambia won the 2012 Orange Africa cup of nation’s tournament after beating Ivory Coast by 8-7 on penalty shoot out.
Meanwhile, two people died on the spot in Northwestern Province in separate accidents during celebrations after Zambia’s victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Sunday night.
Provincial Commissioner of Police Eugene Sibote confirmed the deaths to ZANIS in Solwezi yesterday.
Mr. Sibote said the duo met their fate in jubilations that took place in the province after mid night when the Chipolopolo boys scored their winning goal against Ivory Coast in Libreville in Gabon.
He said the accidents happened in Mwinilunga and Mufumbwe districts.
Mr. Sibote explained that in Mwinilunga, a 26 year old male nurse at Mwinilunga General Hospital identified as Maambo Hamabo died after being hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser as he was riding from the place he was suspected to have been watching the game from.
He said a 19 year old grade 11 pupil at Chizela high school in Mufumbwe was killed by a hit and run vehicle.
Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has advised sports associations to prudently utilized grants that they receive from government for sports development.
Mr Kambwili said government will not hesitate to take corrective measures against erring sports associations in the habit of abusing financial resources.
Mr Kambwili was speaking to journalist after president Sata lay wreaths at the gravesite at Independence stadium.
And the President has urged Zambians to emulate the National Soccer Team’s hardwork that has brought joy to all Zambians. President Sata told Journalists today in an interview at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium where he had gone to lay wreaths in honour of the 1993 Gabon Air crash victims in view of Zambia’s first ever 2012 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph.
He explained that he decided to pay homage to the fallen heroes who died on duty in pursuit of the national glory which the current team has finally won.
President Sata praised the team for working hard by emerging victorious despite soccer pundits underrating them as underdogs when the tournament started.
Mr Sata implored Zambians to eliminate unemployment and poverty through hard work and contribute meaningfully to the country’s developmental agenda.
Earlier, President Sata laid wreaths at gravesite of the 1993 Gabon Air crash victims as the Zambia Army Brass band played solemn music.
The solemn occasion was graced by the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) planes’ fly past as scores of Matero, Mandevu and nearby residents who were following the proceedings tried to catch a glimpse of the President.
And in a brief sermon, Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Chaplain Father Eugene Nyambe said the service was not ritual but a thanksgiving service for the contribution of the fallen heroes to soccer in the country.
Father Nyambe said the heroics of the Chipolopolo Boys at the just ended 2012 AFCON tournament have brought pride and joy to the nation.
President Sata was accompanied to Independence Stadium Gabon victims’ burial site by Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba, Home Affairs Minister, Kennedy Sakeni, Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Given Lubinda, Local Government Minister, Professor Nkandu Luo, and Agriculture Minister Emmanuel Chenda.
Others were Defence Chiefs, Lusaka Province Minister, Colonel Gerry Chanda, Lusaka Mayor Daniel Chisenga and other senior government officials witnessed the ceremony.
The First National Bank (FNB) Zambia today launched an electronic wallet (e-Wallet), a cellphone banking service which would enable its account holders in the country using their mobile phones to receive and send money instantly to other people on any mobile network such as MTN or Airtel.
Recipients of the money mostly those without access to the formal banking sector does not require an FNB bank account or card to receive or withdraw money from the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
Officially launching the product in Lusaka today, Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Acting Director Sechwayo Nzima stated that the launch of the FNB e-Wallet was a reflection of the great changes taking place in the delivery of banking services
using Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the country.
ZANIS reports that Mr Nzima hoped that this innovation would usher in an era of delivering banking services to the unbanked communities countrywide and stressed the need for Zambians to move away from the traditional way of doing business to the electronic way.
He noted that Government acknowledged the positive impact that ICTs continued to have on Zambia’s social and economic development and its multiplier effect on other economic sectors and overall contribution to national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
‘’It is gratifying to note that over the recent past, with the developments in the Banking sector that have involved the use of ICTs, Zambia had registered significant economic growth,’’ Mr Nzima added.
Mr Nzima further noted that the State welcomed FNB’s innovative products and services and its investment in Zambia saying it was gratifying that the development contribute to Government’s goal of bringing banking services to the vast numbers of the country’s unbanked population.
Speaking earlier at the same occasion, FNB Zambia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sarel Van Zyl who described the launch of the eWallet as a milestone disclosed that the bank has plans to expand its operations across the country with an estimated total investment of over K60 billion.
Mr Zyl explained that FNB’s long term plan was to have about 20 branches and 80 ATMs spread through the country’s 10 provinces by December this year at the cost of over K60 billion.
However, the FNB CEO told the gathering that the Bank realized that it would take a long time and billions of kwacha to reach all the unbanked people in Zambia.
He expressed confidence that the eWallet would encourage consumers to embrace mobile banking platform along with the Bank’s already introduced Cellphone Banking product.
With the launch of the eWallet, Mr Zyl stated that the bank would like to believe that it now had the most comprehensive and secure mobile banking solution in Zambia for both Corporates and Consumers.
‘’While we want to be known as a bank that is accessible to our customers-how do we intend to achieve that? We will do so through our Mobility Banking Strategy,’’ he said.

Republican President Michael Sata has urged the newly crowned African football champions the Chipolopolo Boys to remain focused ahead of future engagements.
Speaking during a luncheon State house this afternoon hosted by First Lady Dr. Christine Kaseba in honor of the victorious Zambia National Soccer Team, President Sata said winning Africa’s most prestigious trophy must be the beginning of better things to come.
Mr Sata said the Zambia National Team exhibited splendid performance in the just ended AFCON tournament and that they deserve commendations from all soccer loving Zambians.
He said the Chipolopolo Boys brought glory to Zambia after many years struggling to win the Africa Cup of Nations.
The President said government was with the National team hence the reason to send first President Dr Kenneth Kaunda, immediate past President Rupiah Banda and Vice President Guy Scot to give solidarity to the Zambia National Soccer Team in Gabon
The President further congratulated Zambia National Team Coach Herve Renard for the well done job to qualify the Zambia National Team to the point of winning the AFCON and bring glory to the country.
Mr Sata also thanked the Chinese government and other co-operating partners for showing corporate responsibility of support to the Chipololopolo team during their quest to win the AFCON cup much to the delightment of the Zambian people.
He urged the national team not to be complacent adding that this is the beginning and that it will be painful to be defeated when they have already made their name in Africa and world over.
And Youth, Sport and Child Development Minister Chishimba Kambwili said government will continue putting many resources to the development of sports in the country.
Mr Kambwili said he was happy with the national team’s performance during the just ended AFCON tournament against Ivory Coast.
He also appealed to co-operating partners in the country to give maximum support to the Zambia National Team and the sports industry in the country at large.
And speaking at the same function, local government and housing minister Nkandu Luo said government will look into issue of housing for the national soccer team squad.
Professor Luo’s statement came after national soccer team skipper Christopher Katongo requested government to provide housing for the Chipolopolo Boys.
Meanwhile, First President Dr Kenneth Kaunda said the Zambia National Team’s triumph against Ivory Coast was in honour of the Zambia National team players who perished in a plane crash in Gabon in 1993.
The former President encouraged the Chipolopolo Boys to continue working hard even in future assignments to continue bringing glory to the nation.
And former President Rupiah Banda thanked President Sata for recognising football as one of the important sport in the country.
Mr Banda could not resist the temptation of joining the Chipolopolo Boys in the dance when musician Dandy Crazy performed his popular Don’t t Kubeba song.
Mr. Banda thanked President Sata for sending him and first Republican President Kenneth Kaunda to Gabon to watch the AFCON final adding that the move gave confidence and impetus to players to win the trophy.
He said Zambia has become a force to reckon with in football not only in Africa but world over.
Meanwhile, various corporate entities have made pledges towards the Football Association of Zambia and the national soccer team.
Among the companies are MTN Zambia which has pledged K1 billion to FAZ, K200 million to the players, K400 million as winning bonus for the players by Zambia Breweries and ZESCO has pledged K100 million to FAZ.
Others are GBM milling company and Zambeef both pledging K200 million each, Railways Systems of Zambia K360 million, First Quantum Minerals K250 million and ZAMTEL which has pledged a 29 seater bus for the team.

Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has announced on ZNBC radio that the government has decided to give each member of the team $59 000 dollars for bring the cup to Zambia for the first time.
“The government has given each one of you $59,000, and that is beside what the corporate organisations might decide to give. This money is from the government,” Mr Kambwili said.
It is anticipated that the corporate Zambia will also make some cash rewards to the National team.
Zambia Breweries has already made a K 400 million donation to the team if they won the tournament. The Zambian Breweries PLC through its beer brand, Mosi Larger has reiterated its pledge to pay K400 million to Chipolopolo if they won the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
In a statement to media, Zambian Breweries PLC Managing Director Anele Malumo said the offer came after Zambian Breweries PLC paid FAZ a bonus of K250 million for qualifying to the AFCON 2012 and was pleased to be associated with the team’s achievement at the AFCON.
Zambian Breweries PLC is the official sponsor of the Chipolopolo through its brand Mosi Larger.
Republican President Michael Sata this morning laid wreaths at the burial site of the victims of the 1993 Gabon Air disaster.
President Sata was accompanied by some Cabinet ministers, defence service chiefs and senior government officials in paying tribute to the fallen heroes who died in a plane crash off the coast Libreville in Gabon.
This follows Zambia’s triumph at the 2012 Africa cup of nations in Gabon were they were crowned champions of Africa.
The ceremony was characterized by solemn music by the Zambia Army brass band and prayers by the Zambia Air Force Director of chaplaincy Lieutenant Eugene Nyambe.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the ceremony, President Sata said it is prudent to pay tribute to the fallen heroes as they were the pioneers of the present success by the current national team.
He has since urged the current Chipolopolo boys not to relent but to work hard in their future endeavors like their counterparts who perished while pursuing silverware for the country.
On Sunday, the Chipolopolo boys were crowned Champions of Africa after they emerged victorious in the 2012 African Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.
And The American Government has joined in congratulated the Zambian national soccer team for being crowned champions of African football after beating the Ivory Coast in the finals played on Sunday in Libreville, Gabon.
U.S Ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella in a statement released to QFM says the Chipolopolo victory was well-deserved.
He says he was impressed by the determination of the Chipolopolo boys as he watched the game.

President Michael Sata has with immediate effect removed Inspector General of Police Martin Malama and Zambia Security Intelligence Services Director General Regis Phiri of their positions. This is contained in a press statement made available to the media by the President’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George Chellah.
The Statement did not mention reasons for the removal of the two service chiefs.
Mr Michael Sata has appointed Mr. Martin Mwanambale as Director-General of the Zambia Security Intelligence Services (ZSIS) and Ms. Stella Libongani as Inspector-General of Police.
Mr. Mwanambale and Ms Libongani replace Mr. Regis Phiri and Dr Martin Malama respectively. The Head of State has deployed the two ex-service chiefs into the Foreign Service.
This development makes Ms. Libongani the first female Inspector General of Police in Zambia’s history.
The President expressed gratitude to Mr. Phiri and Dr Malama for their unflinching loyalty, hard work and dedication to him as Commander-in-Chief and the country in general during their distinguished service as heads of these relevant security wings.
And President Sata has further appointed Mr. Samuel Nkhoma and Mr. Peter Chingaipe as Deputy Director-General of the Zambia Security Intelligence Services and Deputy Inspector General of Police correspondingly.
The Head of State says he was confident that the two senior security officers will perform to his expectations and that of the Zambian people in general.
While not yet definitive, a clearer picture of what might have caused singer Whitney Houston’s death has emerged. The New York Daily News is reporting that the singer was found submerged under water in her hotel bathtub after falling unconscious during a drug and alcohol induced stupor.
A pharmacy’s worth of sedatives and anti-anxiety medications were found in the room, including Valium, Xanax, Lorazepam and another sleeping pill according to the report.
An autopsy was performed on the singer Sunday, but results of toxicology tests won’t be known for weeks.
“At this time, her cause of death is deferred pending toxicology and further testing,” said Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. “I know there are reports that she drowned or overdosed. We won’t make the final determination until all the tests are in.”
TMZ initially reported that Houston had water in her lungs at the time of death adding to speculation she accidentally drowned. But according to their latest report Houston may have died before slipping beneath the water.
Houston’s family has reportedly been told by L.A. County Coroner officials that she died from a mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs.
