Acting President Edgar Lungu with Former President Kenneth Kaunda during the flag hoisting ceremony held last night to mark Zambia’s Jubilee independence anniversary commemoration.

Acting Republican President Edgar Lungu last night led hundreds of Zambians at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka in hoisting the flag to mark Zambia’s Jubilee independence anniversary commemoration.

Mr. Lungu arrived slightly after 22:00 hours to join First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda, Vice President Guy Scott and Former Mozambican President Joackim Chisano and other invited guests for the function.

Earlier , Dr. Kaunda’s arrival at the stadium cheered the crowd after a footage showed that the First Republican President was clad in the same attire he used to wear before and during independence in 1964.

Zambians clad in national colors filled the stadium to witness the ceremonial hoisting of the flag in the stadium which has only been witnessed by freedom fighters at Independence.

Traditional dances and performances were exhibited showcasing Zambia’s historical emblems spiced up by local and foreign musicians.

Video Footage and pictures of the five Presidents namely Dr. Kaunda, Frederick Chiluba, Levy Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda and Michael Sata were beamed on the screen to show the peaceful transition of power in the last 50 years.

At 23:59 hours the Acting President descended from his VIP seat to the playing field to lead the jubilant crowd into a countdown to the hoisting of the flag.

The raising of the flag was accompanied by the National Anthem, blowing of vuvuzelas and beating of drums while all the lights were switched off.

The display of fireworks in the air was one of the spectacular things to watch as the skies of Lusaka were lit and colored .

At the same time the booming sound sent the crowd wild as they shouted after each spark of the fireworks.

The ceremonial hoisting of the Zambian flag symbolizes the patriotism and the nation’s natural resources.

This year’s raising of the flag at midnight last night was the fiftieth time the Zambia’s flag was being hoisted since 1964 when Zambia gained independence from the British colony.

Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy President Nevers Mumba and Ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Zambia were among the dignitaries that attended the flag hoisting ceremony.

    • How wonderful. Let us continue standing together as a people. We shall overcome our failures one at a time. We are capable.

      Long Live KK! Tiyende Pamodzi

    • I know! Where will we! Such gravitas! He truly was chosen for our land. But mind you, Edgar Lungu has that air of Presidential Integrity about him. We want him!

    • NOT A PRESS STATEMENT
      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ON JUBILLE

On behalf of Nick I wish all you well as you celebrate this monumental milestone.
Barring a miracle and if the law of average is anything to go by, you are unlikely going to see the centenary
Celebration in your life time (2064). Mind I remind you the lifespan of a Zambian person is 54 years.

So there you are personally I have no intention to ever live in Zambia again, that doesn’t mean I wish affliction on
the country that I am glad produced a great human being in me and also it should thank me for flying its flag here in
      Glasgow.

More Importantly I wish Mr Sata the best if health not because we come from the same village but because he is the best president
      these shores have ever hard.

    • No man reached the pinnacle of Zambian politics with as much experience, finesse, desire, blood sweat
      and tears than Mr Sata.

Talking of being born as a President and not being made (really Mr Kambwili?) well Mr Sata was a born to be the President.

There is no BETTER person to be the president than His Majesty Michael C Sata. Without him we would be lost. Sometimes you never know
How good something you have until it gets taken away from you.

On behalf of all of you , I hope we see Mr Sata reflected in 2016 and complete his decade of rule, so he can finish the work he started. We are better off now
Than any other time in the last 50 years FACT.

These are facts not fictions, let us restrain from committing blasphemy against Mr Sata.

      Thanks

    • I AM AT PAINS TO THINKS THAT HH HATES KK WITH A PASSION CONSIDERING WHAT KK HAS DONE FOR ZAMBIA. KK WE LOVE YOU, YOU ARE THE TRUE PRESIDENT FOR ALL ZAMBIANS.

    • As Zambians we need to congratulate ourselves for maintaining peace and unity for The last 50 years. And at the same time we should admit that we have experienced stagnation in infrastructure development for MOST of these 50 years and a downward trend in the quality of life in general and educational standards in particular. The importance of this day is for us to look ahead and develop a plan of how to improve in all areas (“of human endeavor “) stated above, and in the process reflect on the kind of leadership we need to take us to what we desire to be as a country. We have failed in last 50 years to eradicate politics of thuggery and insults. We have failed to deliver electricity, portable water and decent sanitation to rural households. What’s Our plan for the next 50 years?

    • While the PF were winning and dinning during golden jubilee, HH and UPND were busy feeding the poor and donating food to the poor.

Surely I would have expected the PF subsidise ubunga just for this month.

    • Lovely KK. As have always said, KK and team did their part, in their time. Now it is time for young Zambians to fight and take control, so that the old timers retire. It is the only way Zambia will move forward because modern demands are totally different to the 60s, 70s and 80s. The world has changed and is global therefore we have to think Global.

Let the Young Innovative and visionaries step up. Let’s not say politics is a dirty game? Let’s play dirty. Take control and make it a clean Game. One Zambia – One Nation – Tiyende Pamodzi forward and in Prosperity. Read today’s scripture and all Young Zambians in Diaspora and at Home, let’s think how we can make vision possible as we are the Best Country in Africa….

  1. Zambia in the absence of Sata seems to be a GREATER AND BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY !
Sata has just done what he used to do when in Opposition.
He used to shud those events and it has repeated itself on him now.
SATA NEVER TO RULE ZAMBIA AGAIN.
Viva President Lungu Viva Zambia !!!.

    • After 50 years of Independence the elderly who fought for this country are penniless and starving.. I called Zambia today retired Zambians are starving!! My 90 yrs old stepdad has no food TODAY he is starving after working hard for “peanuts” in the Zambian Mines for more than 25 years!!!
His eldest son is also working in the Mines for “peanuts”… and cannot afford to help the poor old man starving .

SHAME ON YOU ZAMBIA FOR NEGLECTING THOSE THAT MADE YOU!!

    • I agree with you bro. Sata came into power by mistake or default, no wonder he can’t enjoy the presidency. Sata will never rule Zambia again. Nature has a way of sorting out and ridding itself of unwanted elements in it’s domain.
Lets just prepare and psyche our minds. It’s President Edgar Lungu now.

  2. The fly in the ointment here is Dr.KK. Had he alone not steered Zambia away from the course of economic growth and into socialist command policies we would be a happier people today. Now looking at him is a constant reminder that he is the culprit responsible for all our economic woes. Creatures like him would be more appreciated if they avoided the limelight and kept strictly in the shadows. We might forgive them.

  3. KK, a true statesman. A man with real presidential image. FTJ tried, but the rest are crockroaches. Never stole a cent from state coffers. Provided real free education. I can’t remember seeing a single street kid in those days. The only man to have united this entire nation. A one party state with cabinet appointments across the landscape. No tribal grouping, which is a far cry from modern day political dispensation in Zambia. We do miss your leadership KK. We are left with chaff now. God bless you.

  4. I just love Zambia dearly, imagine how the situation would have been if it was some countries in West Africa, where someone is always on the look out for an opportunity to seize power. But in Zambia, power shifts from one person to another so calmly and quietly, how lovely.

  5. God does have a sense of homour. The divisive and comical Sata sidelined by his ailment and in walks Lungu from nowhere. Even the talktive Kambwili is tongue tied. Hats off to the organisers of this event. Where was HH, Cosmo Mumba, Mpombo (probably jail), Milupi, Sondashi and all the other opposition leaders?

    • @Shaka-These opposition Presidents you’ve mentioned where not there, because they’re not in the equation of those to rule Zambia in this next Jubilee Season.Spiritually they’re left out. There has been a shift in the Zambian leadership.Watch the space. You’ll see what will happen to Nevers and Chipimo Jnr.as we move foward towards 2016 and beyond within the next 50 years.

    • I wish HH had good and full of wisdom advisors, especially those who’re spiritual. They would have advised him correctly over the importance of this Jubilee as relates to change of governments and Leadership. He has missed it big time.He will talk about Economic management, but God looks at the heart of man.

  6. You mean this dictator. I hate people who want to pretend to be good when they are actually devils. Kaunda is a dictator pretending to be good. Some of us who grew up in his rule know him better.

    • In fact, dictator of 27 years!

I remember correctly, KK the dictator would say, “one Zambia” and people responded “one nation” purposely missing out Barotseland.
      KK mocks- “one nation”?
      People response – “one leeeeeadeeeeeer”!!!!!
      KK- “And that leeeeeadeeeeeer”!!!!!!??????
People – “Doorcotor Kaunda Wa Muyayaya”

The Mbikusitas, Sipalos, Lisulos, Kapwepwes, Chonas et al, have been forgotten as some of the founding fathers of Zambia. After speaking to some freedom fighters today, expressed high levels of hunger and poverty because they are not being looked after well. Their names are hardly mentioned when commemorating the independence of 1964 at the union ship of Barotseland and Northern Rhodesia to create Zambia.
When will these gallantry citizens be honored than…

    • Debo,

Don’t worry about denial-lists, be mesmerized by reality. Some PF cadres think that they are energizer batteries, never say never forgetting that other things come wit a limited life line.
Remember that giving a monkey a cup of water is indeed very easy but taking the cup back from a monkey is hard – An African proverb.

  7. With all the splendour and galore,It was some how when our children were dancinng to some chinese tunes and songs. After 50 years sure! I did not like.

  8. PF are all a bunch of hypocrites starting with their leader sata-ppopotamus and their alie KK-litious ; they can all lick my black bottom with pride until kingdom come because the tickles make me giggle; i would also like to welcome their gay vp to plunder my bottom with his moist white long sausage; the one and only evans mfula at Evaduco reporting live from lusaka

  9. I dont love the way Zambian politicians have got stuck to tie and jacket dress: an imperialist dress forced upon us to brainwash our minds. Thats why I really love that attire KK and Lungu are wearing. Where can I get one?

  10. Most Zambians would agree, Zambia with ALL it’s limitations is the best place to be for a Patriots

    Zambia
It is the place we call home
The place where the falls thunder water down
And create a multi-coloured rainbow of peace, love and harmony
Where exotic and wild animals run free and proud
Where the sun lingers long after the rains

Give me the freshness of home anytime
than the cold comfort of a foreign land
Cold, rainy with smack faced unfriendly people

Dear God, may I never forget
    Who I am
    And where I come from
Proud always and hopeful for a better future
I embrace my culture, my people

For a man that knows not his country
    Cannot know himself

  11. Nice Jubilee but too much heavy artillery at display yet it was not the weapon of choice for Zambians in the struggle for uhuru before 1964. There is something they are not telling us as why these weapons were on display. Are those missiles on a pick up truck meant for separatists in Barotseland?

  12. Nice picture of KK and Acting President Lungu. Wonder how those other aspirants to the throne in the name of disgraced Kabimba, fatso GBM and neckless Kambwili are feeling seeing Lung in the hot seat.

  13. This disguise of printing money to sort out the artificial economic mess created wont help. Inflation will hit us badly. Thinking you are clever you cheat people that these are commemorative notes and yet you are printing money to meet your budgetary deficits. No we know you are trying to sort out something.

  14. HH is an mature politician with lack of wisdom. Self eccetric man with no respect. Man born without knowing his dad who would he appreciate what men and women of good will did for us. Every times he gets too excited and become paranoid. You can not blame every thing the current govt neither the previous ones. HH is part of the problem and not the solution to the problem. Lima and Zamco HH was at the cetre of privatisation and made million/billions out of the workers. Today he can speak about the problems and not offer any targible solution. Strike he is there reinforcing workers to continue, Constitution became the shortlived champion, instigated his MPs to cause problems in the parliament this has failed. HH needs proper reflection of how to capture the wind of change by connecting.

  15. One percent splendor against a backdrop of 99% squalor and filth in zambian slums. That is not the uhuru we wanted.

  16. I too can live with Edgar Lungu as His Excellency, supported by ABC in the interim. Not those other pf so called presidential aspirants, like the fat chimbwi from Luanshya with a rotten mouth.
However my favourite remains RB to continue where he left off before he was interrupted by liars assisted by the mow crestfallen mmembe. RBs infrastructure and other economic programmes were then hijacked by the liars. But caution to RB when he comes back: choose your ministers carefully, some of those you inherited from Levy were not with you in your vision.

  17. Most Zambians of course think with their hearts not with their minds. What is exciting here? Even the way it’s been organised, it’s total misorganisation. For instance, where is the substantive Vice President Guy Scot in all this? Poor Scot! Why did Sata put you in cabinet? To embarrass you? Someone on this blog is busy singing Scotland your country like it is heaven, why can’t you just go back since it’s now clear they don’t like you in PF?

  18. There is absolutely nothing good to sing about kaunda except to say he is a selfish old man. Those of us who witnessed his rule have very strong memories of his terror. HH like many other normal people has no reason to like Kaunda after what a sebana wikute he has turned out to be in his retirement.

  19. This is simply EPIC !! ….LONG LIVE !! ..the great father of our nation !! ..LONG LIVE KK..We Love you so much…

ONE ZAMBIA ! ONE NATION !

  20. ZNS performance was great. Was at mushili too.G coy.lft.phiri,will always love him-MYSRIP.Kambulumata,sag nsama,cp.katwamba.dont forget cpl kachali.he joined us a bit late.the guy with heavy slaps.

  21. does anyone remember queuing for a pack of sugar for hours until the door is shut on you to go home without anything. Or our zambian ladies going to smuggle chocolate from zimbabwe, well to some of us that torment is as clear as now. but my question to YOU IS WHO was the president at that horrific shameful time be honest and shame the right devil. be good cao yours truly big luke.
