Jubilee Zambia bemoans rising “indecent dressing in Zambia”

Share

Jubilee Zambia has bemoaned the rate at which indecent dressing is becoming common-place in society.

Jubilee Zambia member Ray Mwape told Zanis in Ndola today how demoralizing and pathetic today’s dressing is.
He said the younger generation need a dress code to promote decent dressing, especially among women.

He said churches should play a leading role in bringing about positive change in how human beings should dress in society, adding that provocative dressing has not spared some of the older people.

Mr. Mwape said the indecent exposure of certain body parts on women does not set a good example to youths, because women are generally regarded as mothers of the human race.

He called on the church to do more, through its various programmes, in promoting decent dressing among women and the younger generation.

He also advised the electronic and print media to avoid displaying indecent adverts which send wrong messages to the public in a bid to make huge profits.

He said Jubilee Zambia wanted to promote a society where there was fairness, justice and respect for human rights.

  1. Mr Mwape, come to Russia and Ukraine, kuli ma torture kuno.Girls and women alike its normal to wear a very short minin-skirt which they call “mini-yupka” even Lecturers do.for me iam used but i must confeess at first its tricky.
Coming to Zed,Its imperative to tell our youths to dress decently especially with lack of sex education and alarming HIV/AIDS in our country. Please Mr mwape come to Russia, you may change your stance.

  2. Sharp Shooter.. same story in the US. After a while you just get desensitized. Oh well.. if you can beat them, enjoy the view.

  3. When people get bored pa zed they just rush to the media to issue a statement about anything that comes into their bored minds.
Leave people to dress the way they want!!

  4. Indeed we do have a problem, but this iz not something you can address at a public rally. It shud start from our homez, az parents/gaurdians, husbandz/wivez, to say such&such attaire iz not right/acceptable. Tho indecent dressing iz relative, the household shud endeavour to uplift moral standardz to mantain family valuez.

  5. Dictatorial tendencies sometimes masquarade as ‘good sense’, ‘tradition’ ‘morality’ etc. I find the last sentence particularly contradictory: preaching “fairness, justice and respect for human rights” yet at the same time trying to get people to conform to his own understanding of decency. For a people with a history of imibinde (the bits that covered the privates), I find us quite fussy about dress or the lack of it,in this case. I think we should be content with just teaching our own children because getting an entire society to see things his or my way just won’t happen.

  6. mudala you must come to SA and see. only now because of winter are we surviving. the girls here wear minis with no knickers inside. so we she bends you literally see the whole thing. Zambia is very descent , what is that man talking about. ama G strings we dont count infact in summer they dont even put them on. so when she opens, you see

  7. This a load of bull. Just over 60 years ago we were still running around in small patches of cloth, aminal skin etc (umubinde in Bemba or in zulu imbeshu), then the Muzungu came and told us it was indecent and we changed our ways and our standards of what is decent or indecent. Wake up people and liberate yourselves from mental slavery. Even today in the rural areas people dress in a way many of you imbeciles would term indecent. And why is indecent only applied to the womenfolk always?

  8. one day we shall wake up without culture.Either in Russia or SA we shouldnt lose dignity of dressing.Emulate Nigerian of dressing what about u zambian an recognism.Dont be like peter who denied jesus when things were rough. They dress to be on market or ignorant with borrowed culture.

  9. Utter rubbish you forget your ancestors walked around with only small issues to cover their business and the ass showing while the women walked around topless.Indecent is whats in your mind not what someone wears . Tying to make people to comform to procrustean ways of deceny set by someone whose mind is not under control. This is simply some deluded person who thinks membership to Jubilee entitles him to impose his view on others, and what exactly is JUbilee Zambia? It seems everyone has an organisation that just passes useless comments nowadays to make themselves seem important

  10. #10true.those women dance with their unclothed chests in the name of receiving RB at the airport.then there’s those that dance in bras & so on.”Indecent dressing” or whatever one calls it,is here to stay.Kuishiba fye ifyobe.

  11. What is to dress decently? Some might say decency is up to the time, place and the people. But how can this be determined without interfering in individual’s rights? I am sure you people here may have seen the US Christian churches on National Geographic channel whose congregation, preachers and all were shown praising the lord without any clothes on. Can you tell these people that they are indecent? Can the Moye girls who dance topless be said to be indecent? Questions to think over

  12. Wheres Zambia’s one true ANTI-PORN advocate Nyamasoya on this? He will lock of you up, the POST are learning what to lay their eyes on the hard way….buti bafana misana yao ilengesa ma cardiac arrest.

  13. State monkey study our true history, not what you are fed, for we were dressed long before anybody else. We civillised everyone else, ask 1984 he shall prove it.

  14. Iwe Jubilee Zambia member Ray Mwape should move with times. You are the people who incite bakaponya to start undressing our women.
Whats wrong with us men in our society kanshi?
Mwape, you should learn to appreciate women and not just think about DO when you look at a woman.
Dressing has changed so much from the period when women wore citenges all the time.
Have you not seen the pictures of Zambian women in mini dresses and skirts before 1970?
    Come on gentlemen,
let leave women sort out how they dress on their own instead of men like Mwape showing our male chauvinist behaviour – no bututu or ubu fontini.

  15. I need to take a trip to Zambia to see what Jubilee is talking about before I comment. The last time I was there, I never noticed anything strange with the womens’ dressing. Here in Germany, it took me quite a while to get used to the nudist tendency that exists among the young people but even now, I still think there should be limits.
On the other hand, if men feel uncomfortable with the way their women dress, I think it is right for the women to be considerate. It takes a lot of self control for a Zambian man to look the other way when a woman is literally displaying her “weapons”. In this case: “lead us not into temptation” is the innocuous plea.

  16. Can someone please give Mr Ray mwape of Jubilee a copy of ANGELA NYIRENDA’s CD/tape peradventure he retracts his concerns

  17. Every section of society has it’s means of identification ,and this has been there since time inmemorial , what is lacking in our country is sex education ,the responsible parties have not done much . Am not supprised to see this type of dressing here in the United states ,because i believe it ,is part of there culture ,but you won’t find them dressed in bikinis ,at offices or at funerals .
young women in Zambia today are taking it at a wrong side .let us face reality and preserve our culture other wise they wil not be any Zambian Indentity.

  18. Let the women also have freedom of dress , something that is confortable for them .but not moving naked.

  19. #19 Truth I have studied a bit of Zambian history but I also lived in a rural area for some time and interacted with a lot of older people who narrated to me how they lived half a century or so ago (I was doing an academic research if you have to know). They told me, and I have every reason to believe them, that only the wealthy few would wear the modern and now NORMATIVE clothing! Now when it become indecent for women (and always its women) in Zambia to wear imibinde, I think it to be a worse form of mental slavery when an outsider (colonial masters) would construct an entire system of values for others (Zambians) and they swallow it hook and sink as it were. and please do not with the Christian BS, that is another issue for another day, suffice only to mention that religion existed then

  20. Fyonse ma imitation, any clothing above the knees is not good.we should embrace muslim communties who cover themselves upto the top.

  21. Let women dress the way they want according to the changes in weather and what is fashionable, a Zambian man should just learn to control himself like men in the free world.

  22. Result of too much education. I guess you would’nt mind seing your mom walking naked all in the name of civilisation.

  23. Thats what happens when people are bored and have nothing to do, let alone no money to spend! Pick on dressing and hoping some NGO will fund the project. Mwandini ladies, mulefwala fye efyo mulefwaya. Anso tulomfwa bwino fwe ba lumendo. Its actually pleasing to the eye! If that chap is not happy, let him pluck out his eyes, buy himself a fluffy that can lead him wherever he wants to go. Ndiye boza iyo manje. And wamene uyo siamvela. Ndiye wama gelo bad!!

  24. Whats wrong with this guy, what indecent dressing is he talking about. Less clothes ILICHE! Our women are very beautiful let them wear mini’s and show off their beauty. Viva g-string VIVA!

  25. What is termed as Decent and Indecent Dressing? This guy has not travelled the world, let him come to the west and see how pipo dress, now even the shortest shorts are in fashion for ladies, i can understand if he is saying the cloths are not your size, but here even the big girls can wear small tops , mini skirts and shorts, let him go to Jamaica and see how the Ladies dress,

  26. Ba jubilee came to Poland its now summer……….eeeeeeeee………you will thank God that live in Zed and not here. you cant stop birds from flying on top of your heads but you can stop them from makin a nest on your head

  27. mama…..ala bakashana in diaspora tekwakuya ku Zed. Its now like Malawi in Banda’s regume. Ooops less I forget , Zambia is now under a Banda too. Katwishi

  28. Very soon , this man will ask all zed women to cover from head to toe in the Burkas like ku Irag or Iran (it is enveloping outer garment worn by women in some Islamic …states.)

  29. Imibinde rule.
Bring back Imibinde and topless. Lets go back to the way of our ancestors. The ancients weren’t stupid when they drafted the dress code use some logic Africa is a hot place?

  30. Jubilee Zambia should stay of issues of women. It is bad for jubilee to start controlling women in zambia. why is wrong with women wearing what they want? Jubilee must apologize to zambian women for interfering in their wardrobes.
By way, go to south africa or visit developed nations in summer, you will close your eyes. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE WHAT WOMEN IN ZAMBIA ARE WEARING, JUST CLOSE YOU EYES OR STAY INSIDE YOUR HOUSE…RESPECT OUR WOMEN AND LET THEM SHOW OFF THEIR BEAUTIFUL BODIES.. JUBILEE ZAMBIA STAY OF OUT THIS ISSUSE, FIX DEBT.

  31. Was the first man, tribe, in Zambia naked? Bring the evidence on the table. What is indecent in some areas is decent in others. Yu chaps in the dias would agree with me that certain foods you eat where you are now can never enter a pot or even plate, let alone being touched. So, decency is defined by an areas value system. US, Russia, SA, is not Zambia. Our values and beliefs differ on many social issues. Because it is permissible and acceptable in Russia should not be the standard for Zambia.

  32. Decent dressing? Well the so called culture one would wonder how long it has been in existence. First of all I believe culture goes back to the time of our fore fathers who only used to wear imibinde. This only covered the front part ( pabufyashi) That was worse than what we are seing today. Secondly those youth who some people would call badly dressed come from or stay with their parents. I do not really know if parents dont see them when leaving the homes or ……….May be to their own children it’s fine to dress that way but once they meet other people daughter that when complaints erupt like volcanos.

  33. ANY WAY WHAT IS THE WAY FORWARD DEAR BLOGGERS ,I HAVEN’T HEARD FROM WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE AND STRIPPER . SAY SOMETHING LADIES IT IS YOUR BALL. LOL

  34. Interesting! Colleagues, its like all of you have not noticed anything wrong in the way our women are now dressing. I concur with Mr. Mwape. I think I am a great believer in what I will call “descent dressing”. I get iritated to see a woman’s butt sticking out. That’s my nature! I have a small shop at Kulima tower and I am able to see our women of all ages passby. Truthfully, I do not enjoy it!

  35. You could definitely see your skills within the work you write. The arena hopes for more passionate writers like you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. At all times go after your heart.
