Negotiations between the Chinese and Zambian government for the re-opening Mulungushi Textiles Company in Kabwe have reached an advanced stage.
Central Province Permanent Secretary Danny Lumbama confirmed to ZANIS in Kabwe today.
Mr. Lumbama said the clothing company which closed early this year could resume operations in the first quarter of 2009.
He expressed hope that when the textile factory resumes its operations it would bring a spiral effect on other industries such the agro and transport industry in the province.
Meanwhile, Kabwe Municipal Council has put in place a deliberate rehabilitation programme of all play parks in the town.
Mr. Lumbama said so far one of the council’s cooperating partners, ZCCM-IH, has given an undisclosed sum of money towards the rehabilitation of the parks.
He said the council has already rehabilitated one of the parks in the town center.
He said the move would help the council raise revenue.

How much investment is Zambia putting in the company? Don’t alwals depend on foreigners because after making money they will leave your people without employment.
Could be good. Abena Kabwe bachula. Insala Mu Lukanga on those who were working at ZCMT tepabubi. Mwe Buteko make sure you negotiate the best deal to benefit the workers.
lets wait and see.. hahaha there is no number 1 today ?
Happy christmas and merry new year!
<:-p<:-p<:-p<:-p<:-p<:-p
I THOUGHT DANNY LUMBAMA WAS FIRED OR DEAD. SOME APPOINTMENTS CAN HAVE JOB SECURITY MWEE. EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T PERFORM THE JOB WILL STILL BE THERE FOR YOU.
why close and reopen these things
#1 o nachedwa… :((
this is not a story
oh ho 😕
The company can do much better if GRZ took over than it is now. It is happening world over including in the USA. GRZ need to protect jobs for the vulnerable Zambians. This company can still be viable by producing uniforms for the Zambian military, schools, hospitals without the government spending too much money on imports of the same goods.
Good news for Mulungushi Textiles. But wait. Has Kabwe Municiple Council paid its retirees? I am sure they are still starving.

“Advanced stage” :-?:-?:-?:-?:-?
They are just lying. Kabwe is just as dead. [-(
Open, close,Open; same story all the time. Bastards
I think after the re-opening of Mulungushi Textiles, they must consider listing shares of the company on the Lusaka Stock Exchange as a safety net to ensure the company continues to be in operations.
Just a suggestion :-\”

Very good point.
#17, but the history of the company of frequent closures might scare away the people. Besides, I hear the line ministry for ZCMT is the Ministry of Defence hence the many problems it faces. Lets wait and see :-w
Better development than just talking about poverty all the time. ^:)^
Danny Lumbama my former head teacher at Chipembi gals..anyways i hope he is still a man of action.
I don’t see the company returning to good health anytime soon. The partnership with the Chinese in this venture will never work because they know that the production costs are too high for the business to be profitable. Chinese factories are capable of producing higher quality materials at a fraction of the cost due to economies of scale and low labour costs. I don’t think the irony is lost on the Chinese. They would rather let Zambia import materials from their country.
#17 Free-Market-Capitlst
Good idea though My opinion would be that what the company requires is recapitalisation and if such a company went to list on LUSE anyone buying shares in such is asured of a divident drought for many years. More over the company seems to be pushing some supply side economics. The current equipment will only produce old style Vitenge to compete with Salaula and Cheap Chinese imports so even capital growth seems to be in the very long term. what these guys need is modern equipment to make Jeens and not traditional shirts and that needs Capital injection. If they listed in the current form it would be a very risky investment for small time share buyers
#20 talking about development, talking about poverty, same thing, it’s still just talking
#19 ESK
The ministry of difence is only a major customer. ZCMT supplies those milliatry uniforms, However soldiers have nowerdays become demandfull insisting on quality. good news is they work on directives or commands so that market is still guaranteed.
The Problem is with our politician. They dont any new concept of doing things. The road map is only on hand out. Look at George Kunda’s happiness on securing the $250,000 from the nigerians
(*)o=>
nigeria should help in tht line those guys know quite a lot abt this business
ZAMBIA NEEDS DELIBERATE POLICY ON THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY TO SURVIVE.WE NEED TO HELP RE-CAPITALISE THIS COMPANY AND PROTECT LOCAL JOBS. THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE.WE CAN THEN EXPORT THE SURPLUS.WHY DEPEND ON IMPORTED TEXTILES WHEN WE CAN AFFORD TO USE LOCAL INDUSTRY TO A LEVEL ACCEPTABLE BY CUSTOMERS? WAKE UP PPP.
Let them employ me as Business Manager…ZCMT will rock. #21 yes he is still man of action. Worked with him in Solwezi and was impressed at least for the short time.
I can see light at the end of the tunnel God never slumbers :d/
Lumbamba just talks too much and people confuse that woth action 😮
**==
We will wait and see how far it goes and how successful it will be?
I have a good contact for someone here who can supply the whole equipment and machinery required to run the textiles. I’m talking about reliable technology Made in Germany, not chinese counterfeits. Mr. Lumbama please contact me.
ZCMT needs to submit a buisness plan to the banks for a loan. If the plan is viable then the banks will give them money for new equipment that can produce acceptable products to the customers. As a tax payer i wouldnt allow Govnt to through my money into a company that has no viable plan. ZCMT needs Modern equipment and skills to be able to compete with Salaula and Chinese product. its unfortunate that ZCMT wants to continue producing VItenge for traditional shirts and funeral attire when we all know that our ladies are now into Jeens. NO PLAN NO FUNDING.MIND YOU WHERE GOVNT FUNDS GO, ALSO GOES GOVNT CONTROL AND POLITICAL INTERFERANCE.

that is good news for the people of kabwe. but this time let them negotiate well on the plight of the workers.
Salaula clothes have contributed to the collapse of our textile industry. I know people are poor but it would be better to create employment for them than to let them live on salaula clothes. Ban salaula imports and create jobs so people can buy new textile outfits.
who receive money from zccm-ih ?
this national holding forget to publish annual report from 2006 et now we can see that zccm give money ?
who receive money, wich minister ?
like kunda a few years ??
In zambia, every decades the same problem
