Overcoming Difficult Times

Share

Today’s Scripture

“Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God”
(Psalm 42:5-6, NIV).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

When times get tough, don´t be surprised if you feel a heaviness trying to overwhelm you. Don´t be surprised if you hear negative thoughts telling you, “It´s never going to work out. Things are never going to get better. It´s over. It´s done.” When those thoughts come, remember, you have a choice–you don´t have to believe those lies. You don´t have to get on board with your emotions.

In the Bible, David encountered many difficult situations. That spirit of heaviness tried to steal his destiny. He got depressed and discouraged, but do you know what he did? He started talking to himself. He said, “Why are you cast down, oh my soul? Put your hope in the Lord.” He was saying, “David, snap out of it! Why are you discouraged? Why have you lost your joy? God is still on the throne, and He still has good things in store.” When that heaviness tries to come on you, do what David did. As you put your trust in the Lord and praise Him, He´ll give you His strength and empower you to overcome every obstacle you may face!

A Prayer For Today

Father in heaven, thank You for the strength to overcome the difficult times. I choose to shake off the spirit of heaviness by praising and worshiping You. I bless You today and always. In Jesus´ Name. Amen.

  1. Praise be to God. LT please remove that “h” in “He started talking to himself. He said, “Why are you cast down, oh my soul? ” Petty but that has a different meaning and can change the whole context.

Thank Joel for the word may God bless you.

  2. It cannot be gainsaid that some people in private and public institutions have been and are stealing national resources including money. We all know it – some are our relatives and close friends. This is not a thing to be proud of as a country. But we seem to like it and we are afraid to face the truth. We only use the truth when someone has fallen out of our favour.
We know that all the evidence is there to arrest them for stealing public resources. Lands has records on the land they own, road traffic has the records of vehicles they own, the council has records of houses, shops and property they own and pacro has the records of companies they own. There are other organisations that have records of their transactions.
All this information can be simply entered into a database to…

All this information can be simply entered into a database to query who owns what, when, where, and how many.
We need a national database on property in our country – UNZA computer science can do this in no time. This database can be used by ACC, DEC, police, the church etc to query irregularities in ownership. Surely we do not need political wind to query irregularities. This is a cause for justice and fairplay. If we do this there will be definitely schools, hospitals, roads etc even in the rural areas. It is not a curse to live in rural areas.
Dear bloggers lets fight for the national database coz we need to know who owns what in our rich country. VIVA national database

  4. #5&6 you completely lost me. Where are you coming from?, I mean good points but without a background you just lost me. Seems to be slow news day today, how do I upload an item for LT to feature. Lifestyle I think it would be. Gud nite all.

  5. #6 misplaced comment?

Otherwise, many thanks LT for this uplifting mesage. We all need God’s strength to overcome these difficult times.

  6. Great wonder word. LT you should have the Word of God every day. We are losing Zambians to strangeness everyday. God is our salvation and the one that gave us Zambia in the first place. Let us protect it with worshipping and praising of our Lord and saviour Jesus. Blessings to you all and prayers for your families too.

  7. I can now make out the theme of Joel and victoria’s preaching. The bible gives a specific theme that true christians should carry out, Matthew 24:14 says, “this good news of the kingdom will be preached.” Did you notice what theme christian preachers would carry as they go preaching? The kingdom of God. Yes, this was the same theme that Jesus carried as he went on preaching. Immediately after his baptism, the bible reports Jesus went about preaching saying, “repent for the kingdom of God has drawn near” I have never heard the kingdom message being mentioned here, rather its always about how to improve your life. How true the words of Paul have come; For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires,

  8. they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled. (2 tIM 4:3). This to me appears to be the approach many a preacher have taken today. Its all about how to improve your life. One thing that is never mentioned is that the bible does not mention that christians will be without problems. Why? Think about Paul, Timothy, John the Baptist, these men had to contend with sickness, poverty and other problems common to men, yet they served faithfully. Why? They knew that they brought nothing into the world, and they would never take anything out. With such reasoning, paul thus went on to say “so having sustenance and covering we shall be content with these things” 1 tIM 6:7,8.
