MMD chairperson for communications and transport Peter Daka has condemned Patriotic Front (PF) Kanyama parliamentary candidate Gerry Chanda for attacking security forces and described his statement as irresponsible.
Mr Daka, who is a former minister of Science, Technology and Vocational Training, said the statement by Colonel Chanda had exposed the PF for what it was as an irresponsible party that would bring chaos to the nation.
He said it was irresponsible for Col Chanda to drag the security forces into politics as they had serious issues to address in ensuring the nation remained peaceful.
Mr Daka said Col Chanda had behaved like an immature person by stating that Zambian soldiers were just lazying around when in fact all the soldiers were the backbone of Zambia’s peaceful atmosphere.
He was reacting to Col Chanda’s alleged remarks at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the Government had brought in Zimbabwean soldiers as if there was a State of emergency and called security chiefs a club of cadres.
Mr Daka, who is MMD Msanzala aspiring parliamentary candidate, said such negative utterances by Col Chanda were tantamount to espionage.?He said Col Chanda’s remarks were an insult to Zambian soldiers and all defence chiefs because his statement undermined the protective work of all soldiers.
He said Col Chanda was a failed Zambia Air Force officer who contributed minimally while his colleagues proceeded for further studies in countries like the United Kingdom, and should therefore not involve soldiers in his failures.
“It is purely an offence for Col Chanda to allege that Zambia has no army but only a club of cadres. That’s an insult because it is him who is a failure and his negative utterances are tantamount to espionage,” he said.
Mr Daka said soldiers were also human beings and such malicious statements made by a former officer could injure their professional work.
“These insults on innocent soldiers including the defence service chiefs simply show what type of leadership PF has because his statement dilutes the work of soldiers, who are working professionally.
“Col Chanda is very wrong to start attacking the noble work of our men and women in uniform. They are currently working hard to ensure all Zambians including Col Chanda are protected,” he said.

Col Chanda is the worst MP in the history of Kanyama. The only reason he may win is that in this constituency, PF is popular. Otherwise, voting for such a fool is what is slowing the development we want to see in Zambia.

I suppose you meant to say “Treason”, but even that is far fetched, becoz therer is nothing in the constitution that prohibits any one from calling our forces lazy, if a police chief, WHO IS A SMALL BOY compared to the Commander in Chief – one that commands the forces, feels he can invite a foreign police force to come & start whipping our parents, wives, & children with impunity as if we are a country that is as lawless as Somalia. It is indeed a question other defence chiefs should be putting to kabonde!!!!

That’s rich coming from an MMD cadre. Where was Peter Daka when his Veep George Kunda was telling off Panji Kaunda that he is an uneducated person and that why he ended up as a soldier. To me that is even a worse dig at soldiers given that it was coming from the sitting Vice President who should appreciate the galant work the defence forces do for the country. Col Chanda can be excused for saying that (and I doubt he said that) cause he is one of them (defence forces). he probably knows what he is talking about.

These debates are too shallow and mostly from uninformed stand points. How can a country bring soldiers, let alone police from Zimbabwe or any foreign country for that matter? These are the usual rantings of desperate boat passengers. The problem is that PFand its members are overfrustrated and not zambians. I have said it before that losing elections three times consecutively creates prolonged frustration which can be dangerous. The blame goes to members and sympathysers of PF who have not bothered to change the top leadership even in full realisation of an imminent loss. Before we go into debating the Zimbabwean sodiers and police in Zambia, can someone confirm where they are first. We should not just be hallucinating!!!! I do not believe in rumours myself.
If its true that we have got Zimpolice then we have no confidence in our forces. Never the less we drink the same water, eat the same food with the police and the army but theirs is subsidised. But in 2006 at a certain place all the people in uniform and their families voted for change. What ever may be the case if they have come who will pay them; our tax money of course, and it proves that Daka is in darkness.
Why bring Zimbabwean soldiers when we have our own, the colonel is right, why let a foreigner do your job if you are not lazy? These stories have been circulating in Zimbabwean papers and RB should explain why he is bringing death squads in our country. These soldiers and police have the worst records in southern Africa for torturing and killing supporters of opposition parties in Zimbabwe.
