Open Letter to President Sata: The Forceful removal of Father Viateur Banyangandora

Share

The deportation of Father Viateur Banyangandora to Rwanda should be condemned by all well-meaning Zambians. I am an ordained priest and Canon from the Anglican Diocese of Central Zambia and I currently work in the United States. Before coming to the US. I worked in the United kingdom and various African countries.

In 2000, I was one of the vicious critics of Robert Mugabe when I served as Dean of the Cathedral of St. John’s in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Despite Mugabe’s violent attacks on his critics, his government did not deport me. So by deporting Fr Banyangandora, the PF government has sunk too low and has acted with impunity to criticisms.[pullquote] In 2000, I was one of the vicious critics of Robert Mugabe when I served as Dean of the Cathedral of St. John’s in Mutare, Zimbabwe. As a priest, I call on the government of President Sata to stop intimidating religious ministers in Zambia. The president should understand that Zambia is not PF and that the Church is bigger than PF. Be it in colonial times or not, the Church has opposed policies that seek to undermine justice and oppress God’s people.

President Kaunda, late Chiluba, late Mwanawasa and former President Banda have had to contend with the Church’s voice during their time in office. In fact, it is not long ago that PF found a partner in Father Richard Luonde and Fr. Bwalya, who worked so hard to critique and publicly oppose the MMD government. What has changed since then?

President Sata and his followers want religious leaders to sing their praises always. But just as my colleague Fr. Luonde expresses his views on matters of governance, Fr. Banyangandora had a God given responsibility to preach the gospel to God’s people.[pullquote]In fact, it is not long ago that PF found a partner in Father Richard Luonde and Fr. Bwalya, who worked so hard to critique and publicly oppose the MMD government. What has changed since then?[/pullquote]

If what he said to his parishioners in the pulpit was a crime, it was not against the government but his Church. In this regard, only his bishops have the power to discipline him. In addition, belonging to the church is voluntary.

The people who listened to his sermon had the choice to leave if they did not agree with what he said. Despite the popular belief that the Church is public space, legally, it is private space. Just as the politicians cannot control what is said in my house, they cannot dictate what is said in the pulpit.

Even when the Nazi government of Hitler tried to do so, faithful Christians refused to give up their God mandated authority to speak the truth to power.[pullquote]Sending spies to monitor what priests say in the pulpit is an attack on religious freedom as well as the abuse of our Churches as sacred places.[/pullquote]

All Zambian clergy and Christians in general should stand in solidarity with Father Viateur Banyangandora and the Roman Catholic Church. We should realize that preaching is a sacred duty and to allow the PF government to start spying on us is not just morally outrageous but also violates our fundamental rights to privacy.

Sending spies to monitor what priests say in the pulpit is an attack on religious freedom as well as the abuse of our Churches as sacred places. That said, the forceful removal of Father Viateur Banyangandora is indicative of lack of maturity of the PF government and Zambians should demand his return as soon as possible.

By Rev. Dr. John Kaoma
Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Central Zambia

  1. THIS IS DEPLORABLE!!! Makes Mugabe look like a Saint!!! Yes we may tolerate alot from PF & SATA, but this may just be a bridge too far!!! We haven’t heard anything about him appearing in any court to determine which Laws he has broken!! YET THIS IS A GOVT WHICH HAS ARRAIGNED THE JUDICIARY & CALLED THEM ALL SORTS OF NAMES!!! SO JUNGLE-LAW SEEMS TO BE THE PREFERRED MODE OF JUSTICE BY SATA & PF!!! THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE!!

Can people in the know please enlighten us about the sermon that serve as the trigger for deportation!!

  2. From Rwanda no wonder he was deported. Some catholic priests are wanted for inciting and participating in genocide in 1994.Before you critisize dig deeper.

  3. Two things are wrong here. We are in the dark as to what was actually said by the Priest. Reporters please tell us. Secondly, the PF government is gonna lose it if they keep recording negatives.

    • You have just been told that he talked about poverty levels amongst people and cotton farmers. Are you stupid? We know you are a PF sympathyser!

  4. The first CAtholic President and The CAtholic Priest to be deported.History indeed.I hope the president will just pretend that he was not consulted because this will hit him below the belt.He should quickly pretend he did not hear about this and that he has cancelled the order.Otherwise I pit him.

  5. If the PF Govt can send spies in to Churches, what else are they doing in order to keep a grip on power?

    • The PF government clearly shows how intorallent they are.Very surprissing, that they have acted too quickly to Deport the Catholic Priest for speaking out.indeed its the beggining of the End of PF.They have showed to the all country that they are Tribalistic and no wonder they also want to deport the Angolan Refugees who have lived in zambia for a very long time. This should be indeed condemned by all well-meaningful Zambians.I totaly agree with Rev. Dr. John Kaoma
Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Central Zambia for coming out strongly against the Government on the deportation of the Priest.

  6. Catholic Priests are assigned to parishes locally & internationally by the Vatican!! This priest was never in Zambia by personal choice, BUT BY DIRECTION OF THE VATICAN – SO IN CATASTROPHIC DIPLOMATIC FAUX PAS, PF & Sata have scored a first, DEPORTED AN APPOINTEE OF THE VATICAN without exhausting CIVILIZED DIPLOMATIC CHANNELS!!

Early indications are, he was commenting on the impasse cotton Farmers have been having in Eastern province!!

IT WILL BE VERY INTERESTING WHICH PARISH Sata will attend tomorrow, & also what sermon will be chosen by the presiding priest!!!

Talk about shooting oneself in the foot!!!

  7. “Do Not Touch My Annointed Ones”. Please my President I beg you to re-think and revoke the deportation order of the priest lest we invite the wrath of God. We do not need such levels of intolerance in our beautiful nation. We could have easily enagegd the erring priest and the Catholic Church. After all your belief and inclination to Catholisism is there for all to see. Remember the support you received from the church during the campaign period. Bishop Duffy must surely be turning in his grave at such an act.

  8. JUDGE CHIKOPA should really be ashamed of the type of friends he keeps!!!! – wonder whether our taxes are serving any useful purpose!!!

  9. Sata will just blame the MMD or RB or HH just like he does with everything. Tribalism its because of HH and RB, secret salary increments its because of HH, fuel and unemployment it’s because of MMD, minimum wage it’s because of Mumba etc.

  10. I hear a little bird singing!!! Something sort of, close to, “Zambia intends to skip a few years, & propel itself to 2016!!!” Another first for Zed!!

Hey!! Can someone wake up the “hibernating” opposition, 2016 is here!!!

  11. This is the waste dictator. you even go into churches mr.presido for your political survivor what a shame!

  12. We dare not repeat views expressed before about Mr Sata’s character and his inability to lead Zambia for the good of the majority. If the Roman Cathoric church has any spine at all to stand up for what they believe in Mr Sata’s rule, they would have been the first to voice their disapproval of the deportation of Vieteur Banyangadoro to Ruwanda. Alas! it takes Rev John Kaoma who Zambians know little about apart from standing against monster Mugabe apparently Mr Sata’s friend in arms in suppressing their own people. We ask, where is Father Bwalya’s voice over his colleague’s deportation? What is Father Tresphor Mpundu and the entire Cathoric church saying to PF Sata. Hypocrisy or abeting Sata’s shameful rule.

    • The Catholics don’t know how to react. Quite embarrassing for them since they are in charge of the constitution making process. They also campaigned hard for their man. It has taken a foreign priest to show that the emperor is actually naked in his proverbial new clothes. They can’t even react to his salary increase after championing the issues of the poor that the Catholics are well known for world-wide (I remember Sata at St Ignatius parish shortly after winning the elections saying ”I can’t be happy when other people’s children have not eaten”). Quite ironic for Sata that an Anglican is the one who has complained, remember how he kissed the hand of the leader of the Anglicans from the church of England.

  13. SATA ONCE SAID BEFORRE GOD TAKES AWAY YOUR POWER / REINS, HE CAN FIRST MAKE U GO MAD. THIS IS EXACTLY FITTING UKWA HIMSELF NOW. ZOONA CNP!!!!!!

  14. A small reaction has already taken place in Lundandazi by the Catholic Church by gathering and offering Mass in solidarity with this galand son of Africa and a prophetic voice of our time.I am very sure that our cllege of Bishop have already gathered to give a very comprehensive position on this matter.Watch this space. I congratulate Fr Kaoma and i hope we can hear from Fr Gabriel Msipu Phiri,if it was RB he was going to be in the Post.I am also longing to hear from Bishop Banda of Ndola(He comes from Lundazi District) whose people Fr Viateur Saved.I dont expect any comment from Fr Frank Bwalya and Fr Augustine Mwewa,I know what they stand for.I am very sure Bishop George Lungu will be able to mention it soon. These people are actually talking but THE POST and DAILY,TIMES cant take hear.

  15. Satan…to his side kick
“this satan name is just too long, just shorten it to Sata”

    Side Kick…to Satan
“that is most befitting evil one”

  16. Father Tresphore Mpundu, care to comment on what your “brother in law” Sata has done against a fellow Catholic priest? ( if you are not too busy shagging her Royal Highness)

  17. Lundazi must be s serious village town for them to lose ther dear priest peacefully like tat..1 bulshit..!!

  18. Fathers mpundu, luonde and bwalya were involved in the deportation of the Rwandan priest. These three fathers have been critical of anyone who questions Sata and his gov’t. RB and H H have both had a tongue lashing from these fathers. As far as these priests are concerned Sata is their man and this is their govt.

  19. Rev Kaoma, should have done a research before condemning the government. How did he found himself here as a refugee? Many priests were implicated in the Rwanda genocide and the government has the right to protect it’s people from preachers of hatred. Being a priest should not be a passport to be used to promote anarchy in the country. Even in the UK, they remove preachers or Imams who preach hatred. Bravo to PF, let the priest preach in his own country if they tolerate anarchy, we don’t want him here.

    • You seem to know more. So tell us, which Anarchy did the Priest preach? Did he call people to rise against the Govt?

  20. Deporting a priest whose sermon threatens the security and wellbeing of the nation and its people does not amount to religious intolerance in anyway. Even if the church is legally private, the priest was not in order by publicly inciting its congregants to rise against govt to cause strife and public despondency and this is not equivalent to criticism.
In Rwanda, some catholic priests incited genocide and it will be irresponsible for govt to just watch on the sidelines.
No spies are sent to watch over any religious leaders but that some security operatives belong to various religious organisations, the Catholic Church included and go to church on their own but retain the responsibility to protect the peace & security of our motherland.
    Govt did the right thing

    • My friend, there is no indication that te priest was inciting strife. If you call criticism strife, what will you call strife?
All th catholic priests criticized the MMD. Did you call it strife? What is so special about sata that he cannot be cricked?
If the sentiment the priest made is seen as a citation of strife, what about the sentiments we heard from Ft. Bwalwa, ft. Luonde?
We cannot all be singing PF slogans even when things are out of order.
Which president didn’t sata criticize and call all sorts of names?

    • This Govt is a failure and people including Churches and civil society should be able to point that out without fear of persecution. Zambia is a democracy with a justice system that should address any acts deemed illegal. There was nothing illegal in the priest sermon and that is why this dictatorial Govt, rushed to deport him without due process. Ultimately, it is Zambia’s international standing that will suffer, not Sata or his ministers that are busy amassing personal pensions and pay awards.

    • This is *****ic and has no relevance in defending this act. Sata and his group of goons are just scared, they even fear their own shadow when they walk. Where is the Catholic church today? What did Bishop Lungu who presides over Lundazi in his diocese? Where the ArchBishop of Lusaka who stood on the Pulpit instigating the people to remove RB? Where ZEC why are they quite on this matter? Is the selective support where the Arch Bishop Mpundu cannot criticize his own brother-in-law?? This not worthy supporting, it is dividing the country

  21. This is insecurity of the worst order, what is PF afraid of? Instead of concentrating on developmental issues they are out to silence anyone who talk against them. I have a strong feeling we are heading in the direction of Zimbabwe and mark my words he will do everything to stay in power for as long as he wants like our neighbour Bob no wonder he is so close to Bob.

  22. @Echideme. Do you want Lundazi people to behave like Rwandas or elsewhere? A priest should preach love in church and not encouraging people to rise against Gvt. Thanks to Lundazi people you behaved in a mature manner. In Rwanda there is no peace because of stupid priests who ask people to kill others. Well done government. It is a lesson to other foreign priests.

  23. SATA wants to create a vacancy in the catholic church for father flank bwalya who has no parish at the moment to have one in eastern province.

  24. It is unfortunate that people are trying to defend this undefendable act. While it is true the Church in Rwanda instigated the genocide, they priest should have been cleared when he first came to Zambia. This is an act of disparation. It is unfortunate because, problems that are currently being faced were created by MMD. It will take some time before they can be rectified if PF (big if) have the correct policies. When shall problems are rised PF should be grateful and try to find solutions because poverty can not be depoted or wished away. If PF does not want to hear how pipo are suffering how are they going to find solution

    • Do not blame the MMD for the current problems facing Zambia. MMD was not perfect but the current situation is a result of the lies perpetuated by Sata, the PF and the Post Newspaper. These empty promises raised Zambian hopes and expectations but as reality dawns so does the frustrations.

    • I watched Sata s tv clip when he was saying to newly appointed deputy minister s that ‘people are suffering’. If he could say that, what’s wrong with the priest saying it|?

  25. Anyways he is just one of those fathers, if he was a jesuit ie SJ heads would roll at state house. Vatican wud have taken it personal. Thats their Mosad.

  26. Wanya Wanya, I am not stupid as you allege in your reply to my post. “He talked about Poverty levels……”, is that enough you think? I am talking about ACTUAL WORDS he could have used to warrant his deportation. many people talk about that, but are they deported? What about the manner in which it was said? I did not give PF kudos in my post for that matter. I said what I thought even if I am a sympathiser of PF. It is my entitlement as a right. Freedom of Association, just like you also have the right to choose to associate with whomever or whichever organisation you deem fit. Learn to agree to differ in opinion and accept that democarcy operates as such. Are you stupid yourself?

    • Chindakwanda i think you are the best among those who are posting on this issue. You think like a matured person who analyses the situation and issues. No way can some one be deported just by saying poverty level is high. there must be something else. Zambian lets be patriotic dont just condemning any how. because some has condemning .

  27. :((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:(( i can support number 27 he is very right Mr. Sata did a very good thing 4 the sake of the nation nd 4 security reasons,Bravo to PF, let the priest preach in his own country if they tolerate anarchy, we don’t want him here. rwanda there is peace now, infact he might one of the VICTIMS wanted Arusha Court, goooooooooooooooooooooooooo mnyarwanda we?:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”

  28. Learn to win an argument instead of resorting
to fist fights as a way of settling discords.
The man of the cloth might have been wrong
in his sermons, but his deportation has
    demonised the government.

  29. @MK,your silly and shallow mind will not take you anywhere. You yourself do not know this peace loving preacher. This is a peaceful priest who has been in Zambia for more than twenty years. All his priestly training was done in Zambia. Fr Kaoma should be commended for what he has written. You and your Pathetic Failures and our beloved president will perish if you dont repent of this sin you have done. The priest was just reminding you that we chased RB because we thought you could do better. But what you have done is to let the cotton rot in peoples farms.Remain quiet if you yourself does not know this man.I can bet with you he will come back to Zambia.Your president will cancel the order or we will bring him back when you and him rot.God bless you

  30. It serves the priest right because he encouraged people to vote for sata when he knew what kind of man sata has always been.im looking forwrd to another deportation.

  31. who with eyes will see and those with ears will hear-chanda chimba 3 is a prophet.love him or hate him.ASK RB WHY HE CRIED,WE ALL LAUGHED AT HIM.ASK WHY JESUS CHRIST CRIED ,THEY ALL LAUGHED AT HIM.DON”T BLAME IT ON MR SATA, HE HAS NO POWER OVER THE PROPHET.AM SURE HE IS ALSO SURPRISED!RB TELL US NOW WHY YOU CRIED? WE ARE NOT GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU.

  32. @Councillor, you will swallow your words one day and God will remind you why.You cant say the govt did well to expel a preacher for the poor. The priest could not march Bishop Duffy,He could not march Fr Miha, He could not march Fr Umberto or Fr Pete Henriot. The same of the day was to tell all of us in leadership to have compassion on the people we take care of.So his prophetic voice penetrated in the ears of broody vipers.I can assure you I will inform you of his coming back. You councillor should work hard and earn a living than fatting on matters you do not understand.Remember foolishness does not heal. You will rot with it.

  33. I PITY DR KASEBA.LOOK AT HER ZEAL.MAWE! TIME IS TICKING FAST WAY OUT OF STATE HOUSE AND RB AND TANDIWE ARE LAUGHING…………..ATI WAMUONA MAMBALA SWEETY TANDI……KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEK…….LOL………KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKK…….LOL

  34. For protecting and securing the peace of our motherland, i salute you. manyhave forgotten what we went thrrough to gain this independence we have now such that you let a foreign individual to try and distabilize the peace of your country, why? also, do not forget what happened in Rwanda and who incited it all. before you make these comments, first find out what was said, maybe it was concerning you ka!

  35. @COUNCILLAR, BISHOP DUFFY,FR MIHA,FR UMERTO TURNED IN THEIR GRAVES WHEN THEIR FRIEND WAS DEPORTED .AM TELLING YOU THESE FATHERS ARE ON 40 DAYS AND NIGHT FASTING, BECAUSE FR MPUNDU CAN’T PROTECT CATHOLICS NOW.KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKE.

  36. This time am going to be in the VIP stand to watch this one,Flank bwalya you have been given the parish.hahahahaha

  37. Olympics update. G Phiri qualifies for semi-finals with a run of 10.11 seconds. It’s about to get tougher but he has made the last 24. Well done Gerald. No easy feat when running up against Bolt, Blake et al.

  38. Foolish Catholics! The serpent used you as a ladder to the colonial governor’s mansion on independence avenue. Now he has no use for you. The only Catholics that matter to him are those of a specific ‘cultural DNA’ type. Anyway this is the way he has treated the majority of Zambian voters. Use them and dump them. Again only voters of a certain cultural makeup are to be rewarded. How someone can arrive at the conclusion that voters in urban areas like Lusaka and copperbelt who voted for pf were of a specific cultural origin boggles the mind!

    • You have a hidden Agenda sir dont call insult the Catholics .Its you who is a fool. Preist are Human beings just like you..How many Pastors have been deported from Western Europe?Shame on you.We have lawyers let them go to court. In England a Pastor was deported but concerned citizens went to court but lost the case.So dont open your dirt mouth.Go to court

  39. @ President- Priests are men of God but preaching politics in church (as a refugee priest) is not codoned in any country. A foreigner has limits of saying or doing things. In USA foreign priests do not talk against Obama because they are foreigners. Even at your house if a visitor comes and tells you that you don’t know how to keep your wife and children how will you feel? A foreigner is a foreigner my friend.

  40. There is no single government in this world that has succeeded in fighting the church. The church has always triumphed over any leader even satan himself. So trying to fight the church will spell doom to PaFwaka party. This is the end game just mark my word. I rest my case!

  41. @Councillor, I am a priest in the U.S and it is not true that we do not speak against wrong policies in this country. You are mislead and I don’t know what  you are talking about. The Church transcends geographical boundaries. I am sorry you are wrong. Read the above article before you comment.

  42. hey great stuff, thank you for sharing this useful ‘s a I very much hope, I hope your life more wonderful post.

  43. @What. I was in USA NY specifically You will never hear a black priest talking against the gvt there. You are either killed or humiliated. Only American priests can condemn their gvt. So it was right to deport the refuge priest. Anyway he will continue his priesthood in Rwanda

  44. Sata did well to remove the genocidal maniac. Before we know it the priest could have been hiding matchetes under his garments!

  45. @Councillor 51
I work in Boston and I have spoken on various issues ranging from the affordable care act to taxes. You are wrong in asserting that only American priests would condemn their government. Archbishop Desmond Tutu for example spoke against the U.S. involvement in Iraq. He was never deported. Come on brother, have some facts and not fallacies behind your argument.

  46. Rev. John Kaoma, Zambians have their own minds you can’t tell them what to do. How come I have not read any of your articles talking about the US government?

Rwandans have a history of violence that transcends the priesthood, we have to be wary of that.

  47. @Nubian prince; speak for yourself. I and the majority of Zambians on this thread don’t agree with you and the actions of Sata’s tribal and dictatorial govt. Where is your decency?

  48. @ What -I think the Councillor is right, take for example in middle east countries you talk against their policies you are gone. What is wrong with you? Don’t just support coz the priest is you relative. Foreigners have limits in all the countries. Zambia is sovereign country.

  49. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE PRIEST SAID, NEITHER DO WE KNOW THE PRIESTS BACKGROUND. BUT EVERYONE IS COMMENTING ABOUT WHAT THE PRIEST SAID. IF YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT THE PRIEST SAID, WHY NOT TELL US? TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE REPORTING OF LT IS VERY POOR, TOO. LT, B4 PUBLISHING THE ABOVE LETTER WOULDN’T IT HAVE BEEN REASONABLE TO FIRST PUBLISH WHAT THE PRIEST SAID? NIPA ZAMBIA ZOONA

  50. Chinese dr, your ignorance is embarrassing. The Middle East  countries are not democracy but dictatorships and theocracies if you even know what I mean. That is the reason why they deport people who disagree with them.   For your own information, I am Bemba  but I strongly agree with the Rev. Dr. Kaoma. I feel Sata overstepped. Nubian Princess, you have not read my  articles because you cant read.

  51. Peter 57,
The priest complained that poverty was on an increase in his area. He asked why the government was not doing enough to buy cotton from farmers and made the point that Zambians voted for change but are disappointed. what is wrong with that?

  52. IS IT ONLY IN ZAMBIA WHERE PRIESTS CAN PRACTICE? THE PRIEST HAS ONLY BEEN DEPORTED- HE HASN’T HAD HIS QUALIFICATIONS TAKEN AWAY. HE CAN PREACH AND MAKE MONEY IN RWANDA, TOO. THERE HASN’T BEEN ANY SERIOUS WAR IN ZAMBIA. THATS WHY ZAMBIANS ARE SO CARELESS WITH THE SECURITY OF THEIR COUNTRY. HE SOME COUNTRIES HE WOULD HAVE BEEN DEPORTED EVEN B4 HE PRONOUNCED WHATEVER HE SAID. VIVA PF. WE DON’T WANT UNNECESSARY CONFUSION IN ZAMBIA.

  53. The priest said you thought RB was worse but here you are you voted him out thinking that you will be okay. Look you are in more poverty than in RBs regime.

  54. The best side to give us the truth on why the priest has been deported is the Rwandan government which i am sure is aware of this deportation. Therefore, those who are very much interested in this case let us look for reasons from the Rwandan government. The Zambian government has not given us reasond for this deportation and all what has been said are just speculations and not facts. I for one would be comfortable to reasonable comment on this case once clear reasons are put on the table. Those who are close to the Rwandan government please give us a clear picture, give us reason outlined as to why the priest is back to Rwanda.

  55. It’s not church sermons that will dislodge Sata from power, it is his own tribal bigotry which will, if prostate cancer does not take him first. The lumpen is vile in ways stinking to the very heavens above.

  56. THE FRACAS AT THE SHOW GROUND TODAY IS A WARNING SIGN. LET US NOT TAKE PEOPLE FOR GRANTED! THE VOLATILITY IN THE KWACHA IS A SIGNAL OF LOW INVESTOR CONFIDENCE. PLEASE APPOINT HON. MUTATI AS MINISTER OF FINANCE OR COMMERCE IF THE LOST CONFIDENCE IS TO BE RESTORED. GOOD LUCK ZAMBIA!!!!!!!!!!

  57. All I know and respect is that President Sata was democratically elected by the people of Zambia. He loves Zambia just like you and me. All he does is for the benefit of people. Stop complaining. We are tired of people who dont understand democracy.

  58. I’m very disappointed with Pf to do such a thing.I have been supporting this Pf government but I now think Mugabe is more civilized that what we have just experienced in this nation.Where’s democracy?Where’s father Bwalya?Deporting a man of God for speaking the truth is senseless. The MMD government could have depoRted so many of catholic priests if they had the PF ATTITUDE.SHAME I’LL NOT VOTE FOR PF AGAIN NEVER NEVER NEVER.

  59. Do not criticise the Govt.for the action taken against the priest, but ask the Lord in prayer what has transpired.
Priests or Pastors are not above the law. Why was Father Bwalya arrested by MMD Govt.If you are a priest serving in a foreign land you have to obey the laws of the land.
PF has formed Govt.and I have not seen any form of injustice. I salute President Sata for the concern he has for the majority of Zambians.
Who are to call our President Evil names unless you repent you are doomed. God has allowed Sata to be the President of Zambia. When the Lord acts no one can reverse it so stop wasting your time and no partisan prayers.

    • What Law did the deported priest break? And you think a salary increment of 100% when other get a maximum 15% is not an injustice? One would be forgiven for suggesting the your real name must be George Chellah. Bright and intelligent but equally corrupt and greedy.

  60. Violent people who come from violent countries are dangerous and are better of in their on countries thank you. WE NEED TO PROTECT PEACE IN Zambia. Go and preach your hate message elsewhere father Kaoma go and preach in Rwanda sir.

    • You are right Rwandans are known for the violent behaviour. Lets protect our mother Zambia. If you preach such in Rwanda you disappear the same day with your family.

  61. I still can’t get the ghastly imagine of Sata kneeling on the floor and licking Archbishop of Canterbury Reverend Rowan Williams’  hand a couple of months ago…was Sata just playing to the gallery? Was it just a photo opp?.

  62. vatkan can fkn go Zambia is not a Religion, should I hear he is back I ll spend my whole entire life hunting for his a……… the pope can finish ths word

  63. Can you imagine the out spoken Fr. Ombeto and the late Fr. Miha. This PF govt has lost it so fast.

  64. The way most of you are commenting is really candetela umwenso, I hope Rev.Kaoma don’t include you in his prayers.
You all know that SATA is never used the 10 Commandments as he promised, instead he has adopted the unpopular book the SATA-NIC Verses. Lesa ni Malyotola.

  65. Zambia is a sovereign state, we shall act as per our laws, if Mugabe didnt deport u dont bring those issues to zambia, iwe chipuba. We shall never be insulted , or even told what to do by foreigners.

  66. # 74 – Are you sure about that statement? Only fools like you with brains in the nose do not seem to know that beggers are not free, they do not make their own decisions because these are made for them by the donor community. So, “osa pusa ati u lukuluhile luwawa tuwe, umwa notolo”. And by the way, I hear UKWA is not impressed with the zero metal olympic status of Team Z at the Olympics and has flown over there by Presidential Jet and enlisted to represent us in Boxing (cruiseweight) and Trithlon (tribalism over over as he understand it)

  67. Remember Malawi bishops lentern letter to Mutharika! It was titled SIGNS OF THE TIMES, So dear president Sata better watch your Ps and Qs, Repent before your time comes, You are a true and devoted christian. If the deportation was done just to please you, then it is unfortunately, your words are needed on this.

  68. Whoa! This may be one particular of the beneficial blogs We have ever are available through using this issue. Essentially Terrific. I am just also a technician on this niche i really are able to know your effort.

  69. In respect to Faschody comments it maybe true that Father Viateur Banyangandora of Rwanda participated in The Rwandan Genocide was the 1994 mass murder of an estimated 800,000 people as the Roman Catholic Church was deeply involved.
Estimates of the death toll have ranged from 500,000–1,000,000, or as much as 20% of the country’s total population. 1,174,000 people were murdered in 100 days (10,000 murdered every day, 400 every hour, 7 every minute).
The Catholic Father exposes himself to the public and attracted the attention of our either Israel or Iraq -trained ZSISS officers. You can now see how God makes some events happen at the right time [His time]

  70. Criticism of the zambian government should be left to zambians. I doubt if that priest even has voting rights. That priest is a foreigner who the Zambian government granted refugee. If he started biting that hand that feeds him then he got what he got. Dont forget that it is people like him and his comments that sparked the worst genocide on the continent. So he will not be allowed to plant seeds of hatred in our country. He can now go and criticize his government for supporting rebels in Congo.

  71. The Vatican was responsible for the demise of the Soviet union and its satellite states, and the ripping of the iron curtain from bottom to top. So if Sata, PF, Kabimba, m’membe and Nchito want to continue to enjoy the fruits of our 20 september foolishness, they mus tread carefully whre the Catholics are concerned. One of the most, if not the most pouplar USA president in the 20thC was a Catholic. He got born again, and started seeing reality as it is, and not as we have been conditioned to see. As they say in Mind Over Matter, the rest is histroy.

  72. hi all, let us remember the atrocities that were committed by priests and nuns in the Rwanda genocide for heaven’s sake. It is precisely the kind of preaching by the deported Father that led to those atrocities. Parishioners believe their priests and because of this, they wield power. With power comes responsibility! If the Father’s sermon was inciting, then the Govt. was right to deport him!  there is a place for the Church..and inciting is not one of them.

  73. Bloggers supporting the deportation of the Priest have no aorta of any sense of social justice. They live in cocoons, seemingly oblivious of the suffering that people whose sources of basic livelihoods have been swept from under them. Because you do not feel and appreciate the loss of dignity because one is forced to literally forage for their survival and that of their families, all you can advance are ridiculous arguments about national security. People in that area worked hard all year to produce what has sustained them over the years and sent their children to school. What does the PF govt. do? It fails to plan, fails to buy their crop and it goes to waste. A priest voices his concerns as he notes the rising poverty levels as a consequence of this inertia, and he is deported. Think!

  74. Harold Muna, govt does not buy crops like cotton but maize. It is the private ginnerrs that do so. Remember, there is some under reporting on this issue. Just saying something about poverty and the cotton saga can not make someone get deported. It must be some serious words he produced. We do say a lot of tive words in zambia, including foreigners. man, no matter the situation, the country should remain stable

  75. THIS PRIEST WAS  DANGEROUS TO THE RWANDAN COMMUNITY  IN ZAMBIA
GOVT OF RWANDA WAS USING HIM REALLY TO SPY ON REFUGEES IN ZAMBIA
AS IT HAS BEEN USING ALSO SOME MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT  !!! AND OTHER RELIGIONS !!!!
NB: LOOK HOW THE  RWANDAN GOVT     IS USING  AN ANGLICAN TO SPEAK UP FOR , ROMAN CATHOLIC ????????????????????

  76. Surely this just UN called for, does PF and mr Sata only want the yes sir kind of people? That is how dictators lead, not democrats.
You can’t be squeezing ennocent God’s people and expect things to go well for you.

  77. I am a PF sympathiser but on this one, you have gone too far. How in the hell would anyone start a fight against the Almighty Jehovah God, by trying to persecute his followers. Okey apa pena, mwaipika ba PF. You have gone too far. You need to apologise to the Rwandese government, the catholic church as well as the father himself. Whoever signed instigated this and whoever signed the deportation letter, should instantly be removed, for we are a christian country. You are making Rupiah Banda look like a saint even after he killed and imprisoned the lozis. Much as I support you, on this one mwaya sana imwe ba kolwe. Make this right before you lose our support. This intolerance will spell disaster for you in the end. Namusanguka ba “KANO NGA EBO” which is very dangerous. Apologise.

  78. Hey, I stubled onto your internet site by means of Bing as buying a related make any difference, your internet site showed up, it appears to be fantastic. I’ve saved to fav the idea at my google and bing social book marks.

  79. Shame on you Zambians, check out the facts before you make your nasty comments about the Govt action to deport someone.  How illiterate can you portray yourselves?

  80. Voice of reason ? Who betrayed the tutsi’s in Rwanda by accomodating them in a church building your so called private place and later called the rival group to go and massacre the whole lot , the PF ? It was the same priests you’re extolling in Zambia today . Let him go and face the music back home, who knows maybe he is even one of those wanted by the international court of justice !
