Former Prime Minister Malimba Masheke

FORMER Prime Minister in the United National Independence Party (UNIP) Government Malimba Masheke has urged police in Mongu to expedite process of taking the Barotse Freedom Movement (BFM) members arrested in connection with tearing of copies of the Draft Constitution last week.

Police in Western Province have intensified their hunt to apprehend more suspects and so far the total of those arrested in connection with the case stood at 15.

Reacting to the arrest of the BFM members, General Masheke said in a statement yesterday that the suspects had the right to be taken to court within specified time in accordance with the law.

Gen Masheke said the police should act accordingly and that brutality was an act of violence which could escalate the already volatile situation in Mongu to the detriment of society.

“The police have no power to determine the punishment against suspected offenders,’ he said

A group of calling themselves the BFM last week tore the Lozi copies of the Draft Constitution attracting condemnation from a cross section of society.

They alleged that their action was as a result of their contributions not being taken ton board during previous Constitution making processes.

Gen Masheke has since called on President Michael Sata to help clean up and restore orderly conduct of public affairs not only in the Barotseland Agreement (BA) of 1964 but the rest of the country.

He implored the Government to get on top of things in Mongu and ensure there was compliancy with the law by its officers and take quick action against bad elements.

  4. People such as Obama refuse to look back to Kenya, so doesn’t Thandie Newton, Myself, just to mention a few

This is an epitome that their behaviour has woken and stimulated a giant in the US and I hope they cut aid to Zambia
I am sure Clinton and Bush must be embarrassed to have to Zambia, they are probably going to issue some kind of apology , to be associated with a country being on ‘alert’ from the US is as embarrassing as wearing a suit bare feet to work, (though this has been known to happen here by some Africans)
It is disappointing for some of us who have conquered and made it in Europe unlike these others working in restaurants and factories
    Pathetic

    Thanks

    • Obama has been to his fathers village in Kenya to see his grandma – not once but twice. So please, speak for yourself.

  5. How can Zambia be on this list?I think the U.S is misinformed on this one.100% msinformed about Zambia.Very poor intelligence.Zambians are not known to be going for such.

  6. @pampa bay. I guess its more about being vulnerable than Zambians trying to attack the US embassy. We have all sorts of people entering and exiting Zambia at will. Truthfully, we don’t know who these people are and some of them have Zambian passports.

  7. Here’s someone speaking without the head in the sand syndrome. Book the culprits without resorting to violence, get the lawyers in on it and let the courts sort it out. While that is going on, let the powers that be deal with the elephant in the room..

  8. It??s really a great and useful piece of info. I??m glad that you shared this useful information with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.
