President Michael Sata has extended an invitation to traditional leaders in the country to freely visit him at State House and discuss various issues ranging from challenges in their chiefdoms to developmental matter.

President Sata said chiefs should not wait for him to invite them to State House because it was not possible for him to know everyone who has a problem in a vast country like Zambia.

He said it was therefore important to have a two way communication between him and chiefs in order to immediately find solutions to challenges facing traditional leaders’ territories.

Mr. Sata was speaking today when Senior Chief Nsefu and five other traditional leaders from Eastern province called on him at State House.

“I am very happy to meet you chiefs here at State House. May I tell you that State House is an extension of your chiefdom and you are free to come here to discuss the problems affecting you. Don’t wait for me to call you here because this country is very big,” President Sata said before holding a private meeting with the six chiefs.

Other chiefs who attended the meeting included Jumbe, Kakumbi, Malama, Msoro and Mukanga.

Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo and her Deputy Susan Kawandami, renowned businessman and Patriotic Front (PF) member Willie Nsanda and other senior government officials also attended the closed door meeting.

This is a third meeting that President Sata has held with traditional leaders at State House since ascending to power last year.

These meetings demonstrate government’s commitment to sharing issues and learning from each other in the interest of developing the nation for the benefit of the people at the grassroots.

A couple of weeks ago, President Sata conferred with traditional leaders from Southern province at State House.

About two months ago, the President met various chiefs who were in Lusaka to attend the tourism consultative forum that was organized by government through the Ministry of Tourism and Arts.

  1. Mr President that’s a good move but treat all Chiefs from all provinces equally.I’m from Eastern province but I didn’t like the way you treated Chiefs from Southern province.(1) You kept them waiting for a long time when you,by nature, are very good at keeping time.(2) You asked them to remove their traditional hats(a symbol of their authority as Chiefs), but today you remind them that State House is an extension of their Chiefdoms. My humble request is that SAY WHAT YOU MEAN,and MEAN WHAT YOU SAY, Mr President.

  2. Its too late Malume, you have already lost popularuty. I wish you knew this before reducing the cotton price, evicting unceremoniously a Man of GOD, the list is end less. Just keep those brown envelops to yourself and save. 2016 you will be back at Omelo Mumba Road. Tough Luck

  3. These guys just want to have an opportunity to beg. They dont seem to have initiative over the powers thet they now have. They dont invite investment. Most of the time they are chasing it away. Check the Bafokeng and the Bakatla in South Africa. They have ownership of the platinum mines and have become some of Africa’s wealthiest tribes.
