Southern Province Chiefs demand position on the re-alignment of Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi

Share

A meeting of Southern Province chiefs convened in Choma today failed to get underway after the chiefs objected to proceed with the agenda of the meeting unless they were told the current government position on the re-alignment of Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi districts.

The Southern Province Chiefs’ Council meeting held at Mahogany Bush Lodge in Choma also refused to elect three representatives to the House of Chiefs, forcing the meeting to close abruptly.

The chiefs told Southern Province deputy permanent secretary, Alfred Chiingi, and Provincial Local Government Officer, Alex Bwalya, that there is no way they were going to elect representatives to the House of Chiefs before knowing government’s position on the realignment of the two districts.

The chiefs argued that the absence of fellow chiefs from Itezhi Tezhi and Chirundu districts had raised their suspicion that government had gone ahead to re-align the two districts to Central and Lusaka Provinces respectively.

They clarified that they were not being political but only trying to give government time to respond to the resolutions made during their last meeting in which they appealed to government not to re-align the two districts.

But speaking earlier when he opened the meeting, Southern Province Deputy permanent Secretary, Alfred Chiingi, said chiefs needed to elect representatives who could be able to contribute adequately to the deliberations of the House of Chiefs.

Mr Chiingi said the Patriotic Front (PF) government is determined to ensure that traditional leaders participate in the local economic activities as well as governance through the implementation of decentralization policy.

  1. They did well by refusing to proceed with the meeting. Chirundu and Itezhi Tezhi should remain as part of Tonga land. We should not allow these foreigners to separate us Southeners.

  2. These are the stupid chiefs I always refer to as *****S, because to them its always politics. They never see anything good in the current Gov’t. Let them be, after all, we are not afraid or scared even if we do not get any MP from that side. We shall get more than enough from other Provinces. They can all hung for all I care.

  3. Kinda a waste of resource to turn up just to abstain but a fair request even if better notice given would save costs. Reminds me of parliament. Reminds me of UN antics. Reminds me not to bother turning up for anything any more until I know everyone’s position on nothing I can change.

  4. Chiefs this is Zambia, Sata doesnt seek advice, u r Africans not delevoped/civilised enough to have ur demands answered thats why southerner vote for southerners en northerners vote like wise , open up ur heads and vote on character, economic, trustworthiness and policy correctiveness.

  5. @ 3 A Phiri ana bwe……………….things dont jst come for free u r that daft. EU, UN, cabinets and the like meet and fail to agree. its not all about money its about reasons, logic, whats the point of turning up and jst agree even not appropriate??

    • I am that daft. I happen to think those who set the agenda ignored the fact they had not followed up on questions raised at the last meet and were prepared to push forward regardless and it is now at an additional cost to themselves. Parliaments, UN etc may be there for debates but it does not mean they are NEVER guilty of wasting time and resource. The rest is just tongue in cheek humour. I’ll try not to forget the smile so you know when I am teasing :)

  6. Good show that mad mad man dog sata has gone mental he is a pain in the ass of Zambia. The fool is clueless on how to govern and thank either cancer or a stroke will take him soon

    • Even if you hate Sata God loves and unfortunately for you he is the only one who can decide when he and how he will die. May what you wish for him become your family’s double portion. You will have no one to blame but your mouth.

  7. There goes cavemen again still living in caves, kekekekekeke these are not different from alshabaab of somalia maybe its coz of cow dung which they have inhaled

  8. why didnt they stone the two representatives form govt..they are silly..the chiefs form those areas are silly too..sell outs..wise chiefs..

  9. They are denying themselves and their people development because of being misled by politicians.
Selfish and ignorant chiefs who dont realise that the opposition mps draw huge salaries and allowances from paliament before they come to their villages to cheat them meanwhile ,the villagers are languishing in poverty and being chewed by crocks along lake kariba every day.

  10. Zambians voted for Sata, a man with no track record of success, apart from firing people. Enjoy the ride. In SA, they voted for Zuma and he is running down the country. Poor people believe that by voting one of their own, the guy will care for them!! What a fallacy. Sata now wants to be a god, just like Zuma who is building himself a bunker in his village for R200 million. Zambians must learn to vote for people with a track record of success. The presidency is like any other job and competency is a requirement

  11. I find a problem with this Tonga mentality. These people always think they are under attack and so they much bunch up together as TONGAS to guard against eeh…eeh…BEMBAS, iye mayo ubukopo. A Tonga in Southern and a Tonga in Central or Lusaka remains TONGA ethnically! BEMBAS are all over because they are free roaming souls who even spread their language as they speak openly! You Tongas, close yourselves up in Ing’ombe Ilede and let’s see what you shall achieve, if not anhillation.

  12. I wonder what average level of education these chiefs have. Infact, in my view, chiefdoms should be abolished! They just hold us back in primitive traditions when we should be globalising! By the way, what do these chiefs discuss in that house of theirs? They don’t inspect villages to check village planning, except chief Puta of Luapula valley. They don’t talk about sanitation with headmen. They don’t do any civic duty at village level, but they take salaries and royalties. Damn.

  13. Really, chiefs are there only to dispense village justice about a cattle rastler or chicken thief whom they charge and eat the fine payment. As for the Tongas, know that you ought to learn to be just Zambians first of all and Tonga last. We, from Northern, Luapula, Muchinga and Eastern provinces, do not believe our ethnic borders, guarded by poor chiefs, are the same as our political borders in form of districts and provinces. We belong to Zambia on the CB, LSK, and now SoLWZ, L/stone, ChPTA, KB, MonGU.

  14. A great people that conquers the world first of all multiplies in number, population. They arm themselves adequately in terms of education and skills in various fields, including diplomacy and military. Then their large number can not be contained in a small geographical boundary like ka province (southern). They spread out and spread their culture/language. Examples, the English, French, Portuguese and now the Chinese, Nigerians and locally, THE B.E.M.B.A.s. Seleni tubombeko.
