Phiri toasts GBFC win over Nkana

Green Buffaloes coach Patrick Phiri has hailed the 2-1 victory his side recorded over Nkana in the 2013 Barclays Cup quarterfinals in Lusaka on Saturday

The victory at Nkoloma Stadium helped Buffaloes to advance to the last four.

Phiri said eliminating Nkana from the Barclays Cup is a big achievement for the army side.

Phiri said he was excited with the 2-1 win over Nkana who have been troubling his team this season.

“We are happy that at least we managed to win and it was a tough match Nkana played very well like they have been playing of late. But we were very determined to revenge the two losses that they inflicted on us so we were more motivated,” he said.

“We are happy we managed to get to the semis. Obviously beating Nkana is a great achievement they are playing well; they are in form for us to have managed to beat them it shows that we played very well, “Phiri added.

Meanwhile, Nkana coach Masauso Mwale said his players put up a good performance despite losing to Buffaloes at Nkoloma Stadium.

Mwale said Nkana are now putting behind their Barclays Cup failure to focus on the league.

“I am not disappointed I knew it was going to be one of the best challenges in going through to the semi finals,” he said.

Mwale added:”But I think my boys put up a good play though we could not utilize the good chances that we had. We allowed Green Buffaloes to score the goals otherwise we were on top of things but we let in silly goals.”
