Arrows deflate brave Rangers to win Barclays Cup

Share

Nchanga Rangers collapsed underpressure from two cheeky backheels to fall 3-1 to Red Arrows in the 2013 Barclays Cup final played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka today.

The Chingola side looked like they were cursing to their first cup prize cheque since 1978 after midfielder Martin Daka had put them ahead in the 52rd minutes after a very poor first 45 minutes.

However, Arrows hit back five minutes later when Lubinda Mundia headed-in the equaliser from a Patrick Musonda cross.

Lubinda’s goal came after he replaced winger Bruce Musakanya in the 25th minute when the Zambia winger limped off with an injury.

The substitute turned provider for Musonda ten minutes later when the winger backheeled his effort to beat Zambia call-up and Nchanga goalkeeper Toaster Nasabata.

Nasabata and Nchanga’s leaky defence were again punished in the 90th minute when Philip Sikwese’s backheel put the result beyond doubt with the scorers’ first touch of the ball.

Arrows victory redeems coach George Lwandamina and his boys after collapsing last week away to Nkana where they lost 4-1 on the last day of the season to see their guest walk away with the 2013 league title.

    • It’s just ishamo mu Zambia, we thought that Nsabata goalkeeper will take over from finished Mweene… I think PAtrice should sticky to that Zamcoal goalkeeper.

  1. But zo-ona ba nchanga batikonkanya ukulusa fitatu.kuliba KONKOLA 2-0, ZESCO 1-0 na ku ARROWS 3-1. Next time. ba arrow kamo konkola mine police auboma bwino. Nafunafuti kuchilizi ni ka game per weekend next year.

  2. Look at history people! Nchanga Rangers have only won in terms of silverware the Charity Shield when they beat Mighty 4- 1. They just don’t win cups. For some of us who follow local soccer closely it was not a surprise. They just don’t tick in major cup tourneys

    • you have a point, but you are not accurate. they won the league in 1998 under coach kabole. also in old times, they won a few silverware. read Dennis liwewe’s book called zambian soccer scene. however, you are right that they are under achievers, they have a good team and good sponsorship. the only thing they are good at is firing coaches; they recently fired Kabole, then bruce mwape but still no positive results
