A number of public statements have followed UPND Vice President Canisius Banda’s secret meeting with President Sata.
As MMD youths, we wish to add to this debate by stating that we do not find anything strange with Dr Banda meeting with President Sata.As the opposition, we have a duty to cooperate and partner with the ruling party in efforts aimed at finding solutions to the myriad of problems affecting the Zambia.
We however have difficulties understanding why UPND President Hakainde Hichilema is victimizing Dr Banda by asking him to provide details of his visit to State House.
We also find it hypocritical that Mr Hichilema wants to crucify Dr Banda for having secret meetings with President Sata. Mr Hichilema is on record encouraging MMD Members of Parliaments to have secret meetings with members from the UPND.What is happening now could be best described as Mr Hichilema tasting a dosage of his own medicine.
The nation will not forget that Mr Hichilema went on rampage having secret meetings with some MMD members encouraging them to defect and quickly offered them big positions in the UPND. He always defended his action by stating that such members had the right of association.
The situation surrounding his Vice President should serve as a lesson to Mr Hichilema that greedy and amateurish politics do not pay.
It should be stated here that Mr Hichilema was joyful when MMD MPs choose to associate with the ruling PF. He confidently said he had the most disciplined MPs in Zambian politics and went on an anthill celebrating MMD’s trouble with some members.
Our advice to Mr Hichilema is that he should be objective in handling the issue of Dr Banda’s visit to State House. Let him look in the mirror and examine his conscious and stop harassing Dr Banda.
We also know that State House is for all of us. As a nation, we should divorce ourselves from the notion that State House is exclusive for ruling party members. State House should be a place where ideas on how to move Zambia forward are birthed and nurtured.
Now that Dr Banda is keeping details of his State House visit private, we the MMD youths want Mr Hichilema to celebrate and enjoy the full taste of his medicine.

Banda has picked some bad smell in UPND – A Tonga party for Tongas by Tongas in Tonga land. When people talk abt UPND being tribal he thought it was a joke now that he was inside, he proved it. He has no option now but to quickly exit, but HE MCS is also very clever. I am sure he has advised him to remain there as an insider and provide the gvt with some valuable info abt illegal HH activities since he himself announced to the nation that he was working with the OP. The problem with non-politicians who join politics is that they suffer from a crisis of ideology. Cannius does not know what ideology he wants to pursue. PF have promised to adopt him as a parliamentary candidate and that is the reason for leaving UPND. Within two years, he has been a member of MMD, UPND and now PF.

To say that Tongas are tribalist, well it is cheap statements. What of some Tongas who have helped other tribes . For example, some Tongas kept non Tongas in rooms such as Unza, some Tongas have helped other non Tongas in business, some Tongas have helped other non Tongas when situation needed abroad and vice versa. I have respect for the Doc. He is a humble and down to earth man. Able to mix with anyone regardless of their status. However, I want to conquer with 4 above on one reasoning that if he went as UPND, then he should disclose. That in itself is not enough. He is a high ranking leader in the UPND and as such he is expected to consult with his President on such matters. If anything, his President should have been in the loop long before he even went to state house. That would have removed any sort of suspicion. Anything can happen from such meetings. Why in the first place should such a meeting be secret as it is being reported? I smell fish. Doc we need you for the future and your integrity should remain unquestionable.
@ Treetops, thats an honest analysis. It is quite puzzling and often irritating how people misunderstand the articles they read. The issue here has nothing to do with association, but the “secrerecy” that accompanied it. Even at family level, it wouldn’t for example be right for a woman (wife/mother) to borrow money from the neighbour behind her husband’s back. As citizens, we need our politicals leaders whether in the opposition or govt. to be transiparent to gain our trust. Otherwise we may start thinking that they are in it for their stomachs only at the peril of the masses.

Opportunism is a risky business in politics- hope we will not have another Clive like story in Canisius. As for UPND please read the Post Editorial critically. The people we consider enemies at times have good messages for us. There is one critical point of departure from that editorial compared to previous ones, I hope your analysts have picked it. No permanent enemies in politics.
One outstanding thing about HH is wisdom and intelligency. Sata with his standard two can only convince politicians of the belly. MMD Spokesperson Dora Siliya has been challenged by her party to explain what her visit to State house was all about in what appears to be a deepening rift in the former ruling party.
Was MMD being tribal about the issue?
The PF support has been wanning.It;s public Image has been dented severly following the intra party fights.Now they are on an image building process.Dora Siliya,Dr.Banda and others will be romped in for that purpose soon.
