Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has appointed First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda as Zambia’s 2019 Africa Cup bid Ambassador.
Kambwili made the announced during the 2013 MTN FAZ Football Awards gala held on Wednesday night in Kitwe.
He said as Zambia’s Ambassador for the 2019 Africa Cup bid, Dr Kaunda will tour various African countries to lobby for support.
“As we bid for the 2019 AFCON which I am very sure we will be awarded let me take this opportunity to officially appoint Dr Kenneth Kaunda as the ambassador of the 2019 AFCON bid,” Kambwili said.
“Dr Kaunda will visit all the countries that form CAF to try and lobby them to give support to Zambia,” he said.
Kambwili expressed confidence that Zambia will win the bid to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
“I am very sure we shall be awarded because I have never started a crusade which I have failed,” he added.

He can berely stand on his own are ther no better candidates or perhaps it’s exactly this sort of reaction Kambwili expects so that someone can suggest he himself goes instead as Sports Minister what a farce!

Its not a bad idea though most Zambians are angry and annoyed with PF that’s why what ever PF does whether its good we all against it because their undemocratic tendencies,infighting,corruption and prosecution of the innocent citizens that include opposition leaders. I remember South Africa used an aging and tired Mandela to win them support,Am not comparing KK to the late Madiba but what Am saying this can be workable if its well coordinated without politicking. We have to host this for the first time. hopefully by then we will have the new Simon mwansa kapwepwe internation airport as well added up to the new KK International AIRPORT IN LUSAKA. The roads are being done already and the Livingstone airport is done already. just do the new stadium in livingstone and refurbish the independence stadium to make it 4 state of the art stadiums then you are set. hotels we hve plenty. so what can make us not to host the AFCON tournament here? on this one kambwili and you
I agree with you but 1 point to conquer with is the refurbishing of the independence stadium. The money for that should be used on Independence stadium can be best spent somewhere else let us Kitwe,Kasama,Chipata and Solwezi to build 20 or 30 thousand seating capacity stadium so that can host international games as well.By so doing we are allowing people in this area to fill the stadiums when there is local and international matches thus promoting sport as well. In case of Kitwe it is centrally located and has a big football following which is not a bad idea.But with the other towns mentioned above,this can help to develop them and market them internationally.FAZ and some local clubs can be making money as well just imagine FAZ take a cup final match to Kasama,Solwezi,Chipata.
Cant we at times put aside our stupid political differences and vendetas and appoint right people to represent Zambia. RB has been involved in sport for a long time whether you like the man or not. He was in FAZ and was patron of FAZ/CHIPOLOPOLO, not because he was Head of stater, but because he has been involved in sport for a long time, soccer and boxing in particular. Whether you like it or not RB is more highly respected internationally than any of these bgoons inPF including Kaunda. He can sit down with the heavy weights in FIFA and confortably articulate our cause. It is such a shame that once people get into power, they tend to think they know it all. Countries become great because they effectively utilize the human capital at their desposal
That`s exactly what came into my mind about considering RB. But the problem we have is pride. They think by appointing him, then they will be elevating his popularity and that`s something they don`t want to happy!
Politics aside it would not be a bad idea and it can help us very much.The only problem we have in Zambia hatred against one another.The charges RB is facing comes out of pure hatred and we have allowed ourselves to be influenced and conned by corrupt people that praise all the time.We can make up and good team of high profile personalities like the Dennis Liwewe of this world,hope the big man has fully recovered now.If and when the government start respecting the human rights and behaving itself in a likewise democratic manner and CAF can give a go ahead. @PM&MMM-I agree with you because I thought RB was a better person to be an ambassador. RB has the best credentials in terms of diplomatic etiquette and could have friends among the CAF affiliates which could have a strong bearing on the voting pattern. You keep prosecuting him for the useless cases but give him the honor. In any case, it’s easy to win the rights to host but we have a bad precedent and I hope it wont repeat itself. The AFCON of 1988 and The ALL AFRICA GAMES 2011 are still in our memories and that’s I will get excited when the first match kicks off @ Levy M or Heroes Stadium. This idea is a failed project. Kaunda has no influence in Zambia let alone in Africa. We have memories of him killing people in the tunnels at State House. Chiluba ordered the broadcast of those killings on ZNBC for the whole world to see. Please stop equating Kaunda to Mandela, Julius Nyerere or even Robert Mugabe. That man is the devil himself!! He can’t sell.
