Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has added his voice to calls for Malawian President Joyce Banda to concede defeat in the recently held disputed Presidential elections.

Mr. Hakainde says Ms. Banda should step aside given the fact that the opposition won the disputed elections.

Mr. Hakainde has told Qfm News that Ms. Banda should also take a leaf from former Zambian President Rupiah Banda who stepped aside and moved on after he lost the 2011 general elections to President Michael Sata.

He says if Ms. Banda decides to cling on to power even after the opposition’s clear victory, she will be exhibiting a dictatorial mind set.

The UPND leader says as a mother, Ms. Banda should be cautions not to endanger the peace of her country.

Mr Hakainde says this especially that Zambia and Malawi as well as Zimbabwe were once one country under the federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and are still connected by blood and family.

  1. HH do you know if Ms Banda has time to read Lusaka Times? You should personally write her the way you do with our very own Chumbu wa-Bufi.

    • From his opportunistic statement one can tell that the chap has very little understanding of what’s going on in Malawi bu he just had to comment anyway just to be seen to be relevant.

      Pedestrian politician indeed

    • YES, BUT HE IS FORGETTING THAT RB DID NOT STEP ASIDE BUT WAS JUST FORCED TO STEP ASIDE. HE ALMOST RESISTED AND EVENTUALLY FOLLOWED JESUS’ STEPS BY WEEPING – JESUS WEPT! IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE IN AFRICA FOR AN INCUMBENT PRESIDENT TO ACCEPT DEFEAT AND HANDOVER POWER VOLUNTARILY. DO NOT GO FAR BUT JUST LOOK AT OUR NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES AND A FEW OTHERS IN CENTRAL AFRICA. TANZANIA HAS BEEN A SHINING EXAMPLE WHEN IT COMES TO HANDING OVER POWER AFTER DEFEAT OF END OF CONSTITUTIONAL TERM. MAMA JOYCE BANDA WANTS TO “COMPLETE” DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS SO THAT ONE WHO COMES IN AFTER HER DOES NOT DO ANY SUCH DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS BUT JUST SIT AND EAT – WHAT REASONING OR EXCUSE!

  2. my teacher one said that it is sweat there. yes, being president must be sweat for sure now i believe, RB cried after being there for only 3yrs and am not surprised that JB is up in arms crying foul, as if she has been on the sit all her life meanwhile, its has only been less than 3yrs hehehe

    • Who will enter the grave first, the one being “hurted” or the one doing the “hurting”? Zinglish, kaya!

  3. HH Please give us a break. Did this guy hear what JB said? He’s just becoming too to much of himself. He thinks he’s President already..HH exercise some patience and maturity and we’ll love you. You becoming to much of yourself nowardays. In this period if you were quiet about our President’s health, people would have respected you more, but instead you are there everyday “Let’s pray for the President” when actualy you don’t mean it. You are too MEAN HH too to MEAN. You’ve lost my vote.

    • @ China, you will be tied of reading about him. Once the media identify a worthy leader, every matter of concern shall pass through his office, his thoughts communicated. Maybe just keep your vote to yourself. Us we keep assessing the man.

    • Strongly agree with you. HH should just keep quiet instead of talking about elections results of another country. HH you are not the president of Zambia or Malawi. Why show hatred for Mrs Banda who does not even bother you. She understands Malawi better than you. You make me wonder if you need my vote!

  4. Better keep quiet sometimes – it is a measure of leadership. Zambia has lots of problems that need HH and the crowd’s advice. Please advice your friends in PF on how we shall avert hunger and prevent deaths of millions. Zambia is on its knees and all intellectuals should use their intelligence on how to solve the problems before us.

Malawians seem to be handling this dispute very well and JB is not a threat. They have solid laws in place.

  5. The chap is right just like UPND that has been lossing elections since 1998. There experts in losing elections for about tweety years and it shall remain so for the next ten yrs.

  6. the bagger Under 5 probably thinks that if Joyce steps down, then he can become president of Malawi. stick to your kraals cowboy. what an opportunist this empty head! Hashinda Hainyelawila (HH)

  7. “As a mother Joyce should be cautious not to endanger the peace…”
what a retarded reference. (HH) being quiet can sometimes help even a fool come out sharp. you’re busy yapping on the airwaves for the sake of saying anything. you have nothing to say you’re an empty, noise-making, wind blowing cow’s behind

    • kudos stop insults ,yu are decampaing the president in power.why behave like yu all Kaponyazi in PF.Yu should be ashamed of yourself.

  8. Mr HH, The situation in Malawi is not as simple as it looks. Dr Joyce Banda HAS NOT refused to concede defeat rather the elections have failed to produce a genuine winner. The MEC has not announced the results because the elections were heavily fraudulent hence the physical recount going on right now. Let us not jump to conclusions on a matter which we have little knowledge about. I rest my case

  9. its sad that a whole president of a foreign political party can poke his snuffy nose in politics of a foreign country. Please hh refrain from commenting on affairs from online information you get. The situation in Malawi is for us Malawians to handle.
