The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has warned people on wedding convoys against violating the road safety regulations.
RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko said wedding convoys were not exceptional to any road traffic rules in the country.
In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Soko said drivers of cars on wedding convoys will be liable for prosecution for failure to advise their passengers to observe road traffic rules.
He said it would be sad for a joyous occasion such as a wedding to result into an unhappy occasion simply because of negligence by drivers who fully understand road traffic rules.
Mr. Soko said it was dangerous for people celebrating a wedding to sit on motor vehicle doors or roofs hence the need for drivers to take a leading role to prevent any accidents.
He has since called on members of the public to immediately report any wedding convoy procession violating traffic rules by dialing the hotline number 983.

A wedding is a secret celemony, l don’t why we get excited to the point of risking our own lives as observed by Mr. soko
The same observations by the TRSA are common during funeral convoys where dangerous overloading and other risky practices are common-place. I am not sure may be there has been some improvement on this one.

…tho the hot line is a good idea, I think more has to be done…prevention is better than cure. By the time RTSA responds to the call, tragedy will have already happened. I know RTSA and traffic officers cannot be everywhere…we all know that wedding convoys are a menace and that’s a reality. RTSA can always be informed/updated of the weddings taking place every week-end by the civic centre authorities..then RTSA can do their own investigation to locate the church, the reception venues to come up with the likely route and ambush a few misbehaving characters..it will only take six months or so of such ambushes, the word will go round and you see a drastic reduction in misbehaviour of drivers and passengers in wedding convoys…this has to be done in every town thru out Zed
