The Zambian Voice has called on the United Party For National Development (UPND) members and its leadership to be sober and reasonable in their political activities.
Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali has charged that the violence the UPND cadres unleashed on him was the worst kind of hooliganism that a big party should ever be associated with.
He wondered what would become of UPND cadres if they were the party in government further stating that by their actions it was clear that UPND does not accept divergent views.
He said the UPND perceived those with different views or offering checks and balances on them as enemies who are supposed to be eliminated using violence.
Mr Tayali said Zambia was a free state where citizens enjoyed freedoms adding that if UPND cannot appreciate this constitutional right they must think twice as to whether they should espouse to lead the country.
UPND cadres allegedly attacked Mr Tayali for questioning the source of funding for Its president Haikainde Hichilema in the just ended Presidential elections.
UPND Spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo has since issued an apology to Mr Tayali for the actions of the cadres.
Upnd ought snd should indeed be sober minded. The apathy of this year’s Presidential by election gave them false hopes. Next year’s election will give a true reflection of the Zambian people’s perception of their ‘leader’. That election will hurtle HH reeling into retirement or they’ll keep him for their own doses of disappointment.

Violence which is associated with PF cannot be compared to any other party in the history of this country. For Tayali to question the funding of the UPND is absolutely normal. However, why is he not question PF’s funding which was worked out through an international trip which everyone saw. Mr TAYALI’s NGO is acting like a political appendage of the ruling PF party. Going by the violence and tribal acrimony which has gripped Zambia since 2011, it is hypocritical of Mr Tayali to talk the way he has been. Even the so-called UPND Mapatzya formula was a reaction to what the MMD as a ruling party was doing during elections. People cannot just lay down while they are being kicked.
Mr Tayali must remember that PF was not all smiles when they used to lose elections to MMD. It is costly and frustrating and even annoying especially when you are convinced as an opposition party that the party in power has used unfair tactics to get more votes and, as was suspected in the last elections, even some malpratice in arriving at the final count.

The fact that the opposition UPND lost by 1% even gives them more legitimacy to provide checks and balances. To stop challenging the party in power will be tantamount to betraying 52% of the voters who gave their support to the opposition. HH is just one individual among the 52%. The PF and President Lungu should just do their best for the country. They are in government and have a majority in Parliament, so there is nothing to fear from UPND, let alone HH the individual. Those great bemba men and women who climbed above tribal walls erected by the PF since 2011 should be commended for their bravery and risk-taking. If anything is to go by the happenings at city markets and taxi ranks, then Zambians are in for a big surprise, unless of course, the President and his Cabinet take a decisive decision to tame the cadres. First and for almost may I congratulate all Zambian for this level of political interest in the nation. For sure to make a difference to the nation’s development people need to be aware of the their needs and how they can be met. People need the education on how, who can provide the knowledge and skill to deliver. A simple example to this can be likened to having nshima on the table, one requires all the ingredients and the methodology on how to cook it. There are two Scenarios to this: A learner and an expert. A learner will take time to produce the desired consistence of the dish. An expert can only intensify their expertise, keep challenging themselves to keep delivering the best over and over. The learner will do the job in the end but will take to get there. Follow on what is written above. A person cannot claim to have passed an exam unless their prove themselves by sitting one. For this reason no presidential candidate should be judged upon their personality other than credentials and test of the office. Give people a chase to prove themselves than disqualifying them for whatever reason. Test them and this is how you as a nation can improve your country because you will know what worked and did not based on one’s ability.
