Share

A non-governmental organization whose aim is to eradicate tribalism in Zambia has launched sensitization programs in markets and bus stations throughout the country.

Zambia Anti Tribalism and Youth Organization (ZATYO) General Secretary Burton Kamwela told ZANIS in an interview that his organization will work with the help of chiefs and youths to ensure that tribalism is eradicated in Zambia.

Mr. Kamwela said that his organization which was recently formed is non-partisan and it will work with all stakeholders in the communities to stop tribal practices which he described as having the potential to spread like bush fire if left unchecked.

He called on all peace loving people of Zambia to support his organization in fighting tribalism in the country.

Mr. Kamwela stressed that tribalism promotes hatred among some sectors of the society.

A fortnight ago, the NGO held its first board meeting in Solwezi District which drew participants from Lusaka and the Copperbelt where sensitization program of activities was unveiled.

    • Another useless NGO with placed priorities. Why start with chiefs and youths? Please start with the people who have been preaching and singing about tribalism namely President Lungu and Honorable Munkombwe – these are the chief architects of tribalism. There’s no one more guilty on this issue than PF.

    • Start with tribes that have been giving us leaders with no vision and skills. Start with those that have been excluding other provinces from sharing of the national cake through government appointments and contracts. Start with those that don’t like learning other people’s languages. Those are the real tribalists. The others rest are just reacting to these.

    • IT WAS GOING TO BE MORE MEANINGFUL IF GOVERNMENT WAS SPEARHEADING THE CAMPAIGN ON TV Ads, RADIOS, NEWS PAPERS AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA. I WAS GOING TO SALUTE THE SICK KACHASO MAN.

    • KAMUTALIKILA KOOKO KULIBAMALUMBU KUMWAYA MAKANI AA TRIBALISM.SWEBO KUMUSANZA TULIBUYO KABOTU, INYWEBO NOBAMALUMBU KUNYIKA OOKO AKUJWE NDINYWE MWATUSYUPA KUMAKANI AA TRIBALISM. MULASALAULA TOPU NOTUNIYA BWEENDA NYWEBO!

    • Really? Does Zambia need an NGO to stamp out tribalism when the government has all the powers it needs to stamp out massive corruption and nepotism which breeds tribalism.

Tribalism is just but a pure by product of massive corruption and nepotism.

To stamp out Tribalism, corruption and nepotism must be dealt a hard blow first, without which nothing will happen.

Any way this tribalism mantra, was a ploy to block HH and UPND from winning elections. Unfortunately it has failed dismally.

Come 2016, most Zambians will not look at HH ‘s tribe but his capability to deliver based on his personal achievements.

MASSIVE CORRUPTION AND NEPOTISM IS WHAT BREEDS CORRUPTION.

    • It is known which sector rushes to the issue of tribalism, so this NGO should target that sector of our society. Only when it is them saying appointments are based on ability and their region is right. Please find a better strategy than wasting everyone’s precious time in the markets. Talking to the people on this subject while preserving the best jobs for certain tribe’s mate will not help.

  1. Start with the President, Ministers, PSs and those who employ and appoint, before you even bother the marketeers and jobless youths! There is just too much this vice in Government, encouraged by the ruling elite. They condemn it in one breath and promote it when they turn around.

    • i agree with u where u say start with people in the appointing authority than trouble the jobless youths and marketeers.

  2. When the preacher is preaching in church some church members, ” mmm….. This message I wish so and so was there. We call these as hypocrites. You who are saying start from……… And there, you are all church members who wish so and so was there forgetting your sins! Why don’t you let them to start with you?
Don’t be holier than the holy spirit!

    Thanks.
    Chair.

  3. Just like racism, government should pass laws to outlaw tribalism and if found guilty punishment should be prison.

  4. Zambia anti-tribalism (ZATYO), appropriate NGO in Zambia to debunk PF delusion to hoodwink Zambians.
PF callous way of branding others tribal when the entire PF goverment under Sata was all Notherners and few Luapula cronies.
There are good reasons president Edgar Lungu is killing PF and changing PF cadres by removing them, ignoring and replacing them.
ZATYO will expose any tribal antics such as PFs stinking tribalism.

  5. Trybolism indeed. Try start with government and end with chief trybolist. Carry a placard with eich eich portrait so that people can easily get the message.

  6. Teach economic campaign not the foolishness! Start with your NGO then companies remove all your relatives you gave positions, then Banda,Sata and his regime, Lungu and company,Those stupid Bemba’s in copper belt, Ku Luapula,Northern, Eastern then Mukabwere Ku northwestern Rhodesia!! Mediocre, sick leadership!!

    • Tribalism is characterised by the dislike of other tribes. Liking one’s tribe is not tribalism; it is patriotism!

  7. OUR ORGANIZATIONIS TOTALLY OPPOSED TO ANY FORM OF DICSUSSION ON TRIBALISM. THE MORE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IT THE MORE THEY BECOME CONSCIOUS THAT SO THESE THINGS ARE REAL. AND BEGIN TO SEARCH WHICH TRIBE THEY BELONG TO.
ANY FORM OF TRIBAL TALK ACTUALLY ESCALATE THE PTACTICE.

  8. FIRST THE NGO SHOULD START WITH THE GOVERNMENT TO APPOINT PEOPLE ON EQUAL BASES NOT FROM ONE PROVINCE TO OUT NUMBER OTHERS

  9. The sooner jobs are created so will idling minds searching for what to do vanish! Tribalism is a creation by politicians that in serving a wished for purpose has now made a turn around which government can not handle and is being forced on the general public to mop the mess. This NGO will just enhance inclinations to tribe

  10. German tribe, english tribe, flemish tribe, sottish tribe, irish tribe or is it just monkeys that are in tribes.
I am a proud speaker of six zambian languages that include bemba, nyanja, lozi, tonga, mbunda, nkoya.
In my family we have names like Chanda, Masautso, Inonge, Chabota, Adebowali.
To which monkey tribe do I belong.

  11. Tribalism starts at the top from our leaders for their own political gains. Unless they change, any other attempt to avoid tribalism by whatever means is an exercise in futility and a money minting syndicate.

  12. PF NGO.Target: Southern Province.Tribalism in zambia definition: Voting for a Tonga is Tribalism,as such,Bembas, who have never voted for a Tonga do not practise Tribalism. But why only call Tongas tribalists and not the other provinces who voted for a Tonga? It is to isolate Tongas, and if someone else comes up from Western or Northwestern pronvice, that person will also be called a tribalist and his province will be said to be practicing tribalism. How can one avoid being called tribal? It is by SUPPORTING BEMBAs.

  13. Stupid fool find something better to do me am tribal I can’t lie to you I enjoy it and there’s u can do just luk for work my brother tribalism will neva end as long as u continue giving us unproductive presidents from uko kwine

  14. no tribalism in Zambia.. only PF who are using it to marginalize other regions and tribes as a campaign strategy… they are happy evening talking about it… time will come when all zambians will hate PF because of their lies……this is happeing soon…..therefore young man money is not sweeter than your family…. better. you will hurt people and you will not live longer….. kaunda ruled for over 20 years tribalism was not a subject to talk about why? even distribution of power and resources regardless of a region or tribe e.g secondary schools….kabompo boys, mpika boys, chizongwe, sefula, serenje.. same in terms of structure shape because we are one people now with pf what do we see…. this will lead you to destruction….. ask PF to stop marginalizing other region/tribes….

  15. @john, u r damn right. This tribalism wave was ignited by sata and his pf in his quest to promote his tribe as supreme over others. Even that scheme to teach schools in local languages was designed to achieve this purpose. Tribbalism has become more pronounced under this palibe future Kant. Sata was never a unifier but a dispeakable and pathological freak. I m glad he is gone. He was the worst thing for Zambia.

  16. This is nonsense. Kanwela you are the one who is tribal. Stop this nonsense. Who do you want to sensitive? Start with the pf thugs like Chama sg with stone age mentality and explain to him what you mean by tribal. Do you think people of southern province are happy with this stupidity of marginalizing them?

  17. Anti tribalism campaign can only be effective if its mostly targeted at Bembas.

They feel they own the country and others are “less Zambian” than them therefore deserving less of the national cake.

  18. Tribalism in Zambia has been a monster fed by Bembas and their PF panga party.

Wezi hawa Bembas warudi kwao huko DRC sababu Zambia has its true owners.

  19. The way I see it, this tribalism tag was introduced to divide and rule Zambians so that while people are distracted through these good for nobody debates, the politicians are busy “kolopaling” the countries wealth. By the time we wake up from our slumber, there will be nothing left for the poor Zambians. Come on people, forget the tribalism vice and lets concentrate on bettering ourselves.

  20. To my fellow youths in zambia, this organization is meant to save ourselves and we shall really benefits from it, if I ask this question how many granduats are in street today and what made them not to get employed after attending some interviews, it is not that they failed how can it be possible for 2 out of 20 only and the company recruits without any other interviews? Only Tribalism ,Nepotism and Corruption can do that.
