PRESIDENT Lungu has started his medical review in South Africa after attending the 25th Africa Union (AU) summit, which closed on Monday.

Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda said doctors will advise on how long they will attend to Mr Lungu because this is his first medical review after he received treatment in March for a condition medically known as achalasia, caused by the narrowing of his food pipe.

“The doctors are currently attending to the President, carrying out medical reviews. They will advise us on what happens next and that is the directive we shall take,” Mr Chanda told journalists here on Tuesday night.

Mr Chanda, however, could not disclose the hospital where President Lungu is having his medical review because the arrangement is under the courtesy of the South African government and it does not want to draw public attention.

Meanwhile, President Lungu is satisfied with the outcome of the AU summit and Zambia’s participation, particularly the country’s recognition as one of the top pioneers of empowering women in key government positions.

Commenting on the award given to Zambia by the AU for championing the women empowerment programme, Mr Chanda said President Lungu praised late President Michael Sata for pioneering the affirmative action of appointing many women to key government positions.

“The President thinks the award will inspire his Cabinet to work towards increasing the number of women in key positions,” Mr Chanda said.

He also said Mr Lungu is happy with the AU summit’s theme: “Year of women empowerment and development towards Africa’s agenda 2063” because it resonates with his focus to tackle rural poverty among women.

Mr Chanda said the campaign launched by the AU to retire the “hand hoe to the museum” and introduce mechanised farming among rural African women fits well with President Lungu’s agenda to fight rural poverty.

Mr Chanda said the President planned to roll out the campaign to mechanise farming through Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) in partnership with the Ministry of Gender and Child Development and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

“The President will also announce construction of 4,000 solar-powered milling plants to be dotted across the country to create cooperative movement where maize will be milled within distances of production areas,” he said.

He said the President has further extolled the launch of the continental free trade area (FTA), which fits well into Zambia’s programme to ensure that trade barriers and cost of doing business are brought down.

    • Mean while the country is in deficit mode.
Now imagine all the money we could have saved had our lovely president gone to a hospital in Zambia. These People should know by now that these expensive hospitals can not save or give life.
We have to pay this clinic huge sums of money and the hotel bills for ministers who are just there to kiss matakozi pretending to love him, plus all the security we have to pay. Also note that the plane is paying for parking at the airport. What kind of recklessness is this for our leaders.
You claim on TV that all is well at UTH yet you and you relatives don’t even go there. Your voters are sleeping on the floor at UTH and some have not seen the doctor for weeks. It is really terrible at UTH very similar to chibokokaila.

    • Medical tourism should come to an end.

We are strategically placed in the region and if we developed our own health sector, we would be a regional medical referal power house, creating jobs and improving the economy and social status of our people.

This is not science fiction…..it can be achieved

    • What a worst of resources, so Lungu is still in RSA??? Why is he so slow? Even Al Bashir left long time ago.

    • This lazy bum is still in SA? At our expense firstly it was routine check up now its changed to medical review!!

    • WE LONG ADVISED ZAMBIANS TO PREVENT AND NOT WAIT FOR CURE. YOU ALLOWED CHAGWA KALE LUNGU TO STEAL POWER SO THAT HE WASTES OUR MEAGER RESOURCES ON HIS MEDICALS INSTEAD OF PROPELLING ZAMBIA FORWARD WITH DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS AND SERVICE DELIVERY TO THE PEOPLE. LUNGU IS A CHRONIC PATIENT, AND HE WILL FOREVER BE A LIABILITY TO ZAMBIA.
AND WHAT TRIBE IS THIS MORON CHAMA? CHAMA IRKS! CHAMA USES HIS PIPE TO THINK!

    • This has shows that Lungu no confidence in the Health Institutions in Zambia; the country he is ruling! In other words, he has no confidence in himself!!!

Take a leaf from Kaunda; 91 and still going strong yet, he goes to local hospitals. He always had his medicals done at UTH.

I find it difficult to like this man, especially his silly hats.

    • @Nostra, lungu amazes me! We all drink, but we dont go for reviews every day. Lungu’s diseases must be major.

    • Zambia shall remain in poverty for a very long time if this trend continues of voting on tribal lines even if the person you are voting for is visibly sick and useless.I have head many Bemba saying that they know that HH can make a good president but “teti tu votele Umutonga.”We would rather vote for a Lizard or a chicken. This kind of backward thinking as been propagated and sunk so deep in the minds of our brothers in the northern regions of Zambia. The is a strong believe that if they vote for a Tonga they will lose the position is society and that its not okey to be ruled by so called minority tribes. So they feel Lungu who is abit neutral is fine as long as he can toll their agenda. This scheme is likely to back fire as there will be a strong battle between the Bembas and there cousins…

    • The Nyanjas who also believe that they have been used by the Bembas to only block or remove those other candidates from the other tribes like the Tongas and Lozis. This bad and Sad development is being taught even to our children meaning it will continue until another Rwanda takes place in Zambia.I can safely predict that by 2020 this scheme will have matured and real effects of tribalism will start to show its ugly face in Zambia. This situation can be reversed only by 50plus one voting system as it will help unite people from many regions of Zambia in working relationship. The issue of decentralization is key also. The church and NGO should influence the Government to enact a good constitution which accepted by all through a referendum, faluire to which Zambia will doomed for ever

  1. The economy is useless, president is sick . That’s really Africa and people will still voted for this bandits . Millions of people were told that he has know vision and still votes for him .is it the level of education in Zambia low or used to poverty?

    • # Jacob, Zambians have a covenant with poverty. Come next elections they’ll be singing ” Infintu ni Lungu” The visionless, sick EL will be at the helm again and the filth in the country and suffering continues. The level of ignorance in Zambia is amazing. It is even considered normal to get into govt. and get rich overnight and be considered a smart person. Someone tells you he has no plan for you and you still want him to be your president! Only in Zambia!

    • @Kate, you are 1000% correct. Zambia is in bondage with poverty and ignorance. Visibly blinded by the tricks of Lungu and his minions.

Miles Sampa can attest to this having smelt the PF presidency only to be dribbled by Lungu

  2. As my erstwhile sister Mushota used to say when President Sata went for his medical checks..
………….IT IS JUST LIKE THE ANNUAL FITNESS (MOT) TEST FOR A CAR

  3. Zambia, a country with a Medical School, being subjected to this shame by politicians who think they have a God given right to live forever, while the rest of us attend the same hospitals they shun! What a country, what a people!

  4. Mean while the country is in deficit mode.
Now imagine all the money we could have saved had our lovely president gone to a hospital in Zambia. These People should know by now that these expensive hospitals can not save or give life.

  5. This is not to pour cold water on the condition ‘achalasia’. What if we use someone’s ‘narrowing or enlargement of the food pipe’ as an economic indicator?

In other words, if Zambia does well, the pipe should widen to cope with good milile and the opposite should be true during hard times!

  6. Medical tourism has got to be encouraged at any cost. It keeps the medical sector of the world flourishing and all the research around the world progressing forward, The sector needs money and the ‘big fish’ finance the sector with you tax payer’s money. In the end you commoners reap some benefits e.g. ARVs etc. SATA must have helped a few hospitals around the world in India, Israel and his final most popular King Edwards Hospital but to name a few on the front before his dramatic departure. By the way where is SATA’ State House mini Hospital? That should have been donated to you commoners if Edgar is not going to need it or has mama Kaseba knicked it? Poor planning Ba Zambia.

  7. I think Pilato was right with his A Lungu Anabwera. this is the Zambian curse of electing sick presidents. Why can’t medical reviews be done at UTH? the new constitution should bar politicians going overseas at tax payer’s money unless in emergency times

    • IN a normal country President Lungu will not have even been allowed to stand as president. Why do I say so.The reason is simple.1.Any one with a criminal record can not be allowed to stand as president.2.A proper medical board will have been set up to screen all presidential candidates. This is necessary even when we are employing civil servants this procedure is done because we don’t want to waste resources on human resource which will chew the profits.3.The people of Zambia will have evaluated the candidates as to weather they can meet the acceptable values of our society.By voting for drunkards and thieves we are setting a standard. What will stop our children from admiring drunkards and thieves as their role models.

  8. This ALUNGU Anabwela needs to finish now you shi.t stirrers. The president good and in shape. He now just needs to be well maintained well that you commoners can enjoy him. It’s your duty. The guy is not killing anyone, is he? He is sacrificing for you people so he deserves to be looked after well. Just go to work. Do you not have jobs to do? Then go and sell Tomatoes so that others can cook for their husbands and children. Icalo lifupa kukolokotakofye wafwa.

    • “Commoners”???
Who the F*** you think you are?
Just because you lick few crumbs from the high table gives you right to call others commoners?
Any time better to be commoner than parasitic slave turd.

    • The day people will stop talking is the day the world will come to an end so a friend told me at the weekend and I agree. If he does not wear the hat people will still question. Some have called him pimp or president. Kabiyeni uko. You just want his job.

  9. If you lack entertainment and want this ALUNGU Anabwela thing to continue I suggest you go to some water front/or water park and throw yourself in the water. Every episode has a life span. ALUNGU Anabwela thing is finished if you want it or not.

  10. This is very embarrassing and its like these pipo r so proud announcing this , which other president in africa makes so much head line in medical trips abroad than ours even old mugabe never goes to south africa for treatment the tax payers money is being misused pliz y shuld we borrow money to foot the presidents medical bill and allowances for his entourage. Shame ,tamufwanesoni tamufwanesoni yaba

    • If he sneaks out without announcing you will still complain. You killed SATA with such complaints. We’re is he leaving the country without telling, he is our president.Sata this, Sata that. Now Eddie is telling you where he is you have a problem. Go and through yourself into a water park or nearest sea/ocean.

  11. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME is all I can say. 50 years on, and our President without any shame at all seeks medical review in another African country, mostly likely being attended to by a Zambian, Congolese, Ugandan or Zimbabwean doctors. Yet you have all these *****s opposing dual citizenship

  12. NEVER VOTE FOR LIABILITIES LIKE EDGAR LUNGU AS PRESIDENT OF OUR COUNTRY AGAIN. NEXT YEAR ZAMBIANS SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR THIS SICKLING. IF YOU LOVE ZAMBIA AND IF YOU WANT TO SEE ZAMBIA DEVELOP, THEN AVOID CHEAP, SICKLY PRESIDENTS LIKE EDGAR CHAGWA KALE LUNGU. THIS GUYS IS A SERIOUS LIABILITY TO OUR BELOVED COUNTRY. STOP SUPPORTING SICK PEOPLE LIKE PRESIDENT LUNGU JUST FOR YOUR PERSONAL SELFISH GAINS. LOOK AT ZAMBIA FROM A BIGGER PICTURE!

  13. Iwe #Analyser, are you sharing Jameson with Lungu Anabwera that your eyes are blinded to the suffering of many Zambians because you eat the crumbs at the embassy from the man from Chawama? Why should your Lungu Anabwera waste Zambian tax payers money going for a review which can be done in Zambia? Cant UTH or Maina Soko or Levy hospital doctors do a video link to with Millpark doctors for his review?

    • Firstly you will be irrelevant if Alungu does not use KK AIRPORT CABINET to travel for such medical check-ups secondly EDDIE is younger and expected to travel unlike KK who had opposing views with RSA and confined himself to UTH or Maina Solo for medicals. Thirdly I don’t drink Jameson let alone with EDDIE. Fourthly EDDIE is younthful and wants to stay healthy and hang on a bit. Fifthly, you would do the same given an opportunity in his place, I would. So shut up and go and sell tomatoes, it’s lunch time people want to finish cooking.

    • Iwee the review is courtesy of the SA government hence no indication of the hospital to avoid Malema making issue with it!

  14. Why should it be under the courtesy of the South African government as it we do not have a government of our own? Better to do things on our own! Sovereignty!

  15. He has already forgotten what Zuma told him and other African charlatan leaders: to develop their own countries and stop going to RSA! The Zulu chief told him to stop being a louse in his land and murderers were instigated to spill some kwerekwere blood to drive this point in. You would think after all these insults and killings Lungu would at least focus on developing UTH, as a matter of urgency, to an acceptable standard and use it for his numerous ailments, but no, RSA it has got to be. No shame! No pride!

    • And you think Lungu goes there to see black doctors. He goes there for the muzungus. You chased the white and Indian doctors from Zambia. UTH is fully of useless Zambian doctors who take 5 to 12 hours to attend to a patient and in most cases come up with wrong diagonises. South Africa has world class health facilities all because of the white and indian doctors there. I really can’t blame Lungu, its his life its his choice. If you guys have faith in UTH then stick to it.

  16. Its like giving money to your wife to buy food for the family.
The wife buys the food and prepares it but she doe not partake of the same but instead she goes to eat with your neighbours.
personally i will not eat that food aswell.
So Zambians pay taxes for running of hospitals but the guys we give the money to run the same are not ready to use these same hospitals, this can only happen in Africa.
Have you all heard of the story of UK Prime Minister and his late son (MHSRIP) and how he depended on the NHS. The PM used the same NHS which is used by all the Brits, same doctors, nurses etc.

    • So in your head #Ben you think we should have, by some miracle, ZHS (Zambia Health Service), an equivalent of NHS, deluded.

    • @ analbrain

Why are we paying taxes then? To finance foreign medical institutions?

It is shame that after 50 years of achievements, Head of State should go out of Country for simple “routine check-up” whilst his minister of finance proudly announce another round of borrowing as the pre-requisite for “development”to be paid by next generation.

  17. He has malaria, don’t complain, it is costly for country, that’s your problem for electing a sick man!

  18. UPND bloggers are still bitter that they lost last elections.PF has made a grade and even in 2016,EL will win again.

  19. Don’t do medicals outside Zambia. Have the specialists come to Zambia. That way they will tell you what equipment they need to do a proper diagnosis locally. Next you go ahead and buy that equipment and send people (including doctors) to train at the equipment’s manufacturer’s training center. One other way would be to send doctors to train at the South African medical center where you have been going.
After one to three years Zambia should have the expertise to evaluate presidents locally. It also means that citizens (who are also the taxpayer footing these medical bills) can also benefit.

  20. Why do people hate Lungu chap. He is a nice man. We should all love the MAN. He’s cool and health y looking at least. The medical check up is just routine. The man I’d our own.

  21. the song of people crying as to why our leaders go outside for medical attention is pathetic. your own medical personnel are the ones who tell them to go there. why should the president or anyone else in a position to go have confidence in people who have no confidence in themselves? was the president flown to south Africa? no! he was taken to mainasoko. mainasoko doctors said he should go to south Africa. he was treated there. so you lunatics want mainasoko to a review of what they did treat? you are mad
